+ -1 moreWe didn't like him, we found a better guy. We just didn't think he was very good. He was expensive.
Description of Work: We used the "Big Deal" that we purchased for the services of A To Z Paul Services. It was for 1 hour of handyman services. He fixed the hinges on some of the doors in the kitchen and he looked at doing some electrical work.

+ -1 moreI was impressed with his advice on the door squeak and ways to prevent it from happening in the future as well as fixing it. The shelving was installed as requested but unfortunately the hanger rod was not installed as level and sits somewhat askew. This does not remove functionality from the rod but does leave some ascetic issues with the slightly unlevel leaning.
Description of Work: Handyman performed some small tasks around the house that I requested. He installed shelving in the laundry room to provide storage as well as a hanging rod for clothing. This was done using provided materials. He also advised on removing squeaks from a problematic door.

+ -1 moreThis experience was not great. I made an appointment with Paul to come over and do some minor plumbing. I set up the appt. for Aug 4th at 1 PM. At about 1:20 PM, he had not shown up or called me. I called him. He had forgotten about our appointment. He quickly came over and when I showed him the plumbing I wanted him to do, he told me it would take at least 4 hours to do. Therefore, I had him install my 4 foot medicine cabinet instead. Paul first said the mirror was too big for the space--hello! I measured before buying. Next, he said he'd need help getting it up there. No problem, I helped him with it. The next day when getting something out of my medicine cabinet, I read this "Warning sticker" on the inside just above one of the screws used to secure the mirror to the wall that said, screws must go on top where the support board it. Thus, I now have to empty my cabinet, remove it, and reinstall it properly.
Description of Work: I wanted Paul to reconnect my kitchen sink (faucet, sink, diswasher) to the existing plumbing, as it was disconnected when the counter was installed. He said it would take him at least 4 hours to do. I had only purchased an hour with him, so instead of the plumbing, I had him hang my 4 foot bathroom medicine cabinet.

+ -1 moreHe replaced the front door key lock set. First off, we set up a time / date for him to come by, it was a Wed morning and I took time off to be home for the service call. The time came and left and he never showed. I called him and he told me that he has to take care of a personal issue, however he never called me to reschedule. We rescheduled for a few days later and he showed up on time this time and performed the service. However, he doesn't seem very experienced with performing the task.

+ -1 moreI bought one of Angie's Big Deals for one hour of handyman work for $20. A week ago, Paul called me to set up an appointment for him to come over. We scheduled it for a week later (today). I asked him to call me the day before to confirm the appointment. He said he had to confirm his schedule. He did not call the day before, so I called him and left a message. He did not pick up his message until this morning. He had planned to come over between 11 a.m. and noon. He asked if he could change it to between noon and 1 p.m. I said that that is fine. He did not show up during that time, and I called him about 1:15, but could not reach him, and I left a message. He came by about 2 p.m. He apologized for handling this appointment poorly. Based on his past ratings, it appears that he does good work and people are pleased with him. My experience was just one of those things that can happen.

Description of Work: Wanted to replace over the range microwave. Called a few A rated companies and Paul had special but that did not apply in Sunnyvale. I thought that's ok and so set up appointment few days later. He had my full address and major intersection but could not find my place on El Camino Real and was blaming me. He spent half hour getting the old microwave out with me helping him. Then he quit saying that I needed a mounting plate. So, I paid him for one hour which is his minimum charge and told him I will schedule another appointment after getting the mounting plate. I went back to the store Where I got the microwave to get a mounting plate. When I brought that home, I realized it is already at the back of the microwave. What a waste of time and money. This guy did not know the new microwave had a mounting plate at the back? I called another A rated company who replaced the mounting plate, drilled holes in new location, installed the new microwave and hauled away the old microwave in half hour! Clearly, I can't give A rating for both of them. But, that's how Angie's list has it.

+ -1 morePaul answered his phone on a saturday morning, and showed up on a saturday afternoon to fix my door. The repair took much longer than he (or I) initially expected, but he did a very thorough job, including trip to HomeDepot for supplies, and when he ran past dinner time, stayed to finish as much as was necessary to insure a lockable door. He promised to return another day to finish the threshold installation and replacement of a piece of frame, which he did.
Description of Work: Paul repaired the door lock and replaced the door jamb damaged when my house was broken into. He also replaced the threshold and made adjustments to the door to make a better fit.

We knew exactly what he would do. He installed the door exactly where we wanted it and also cleaned up after himself. The quality of his work was excellent and his price was pretty standard. Our experience with him was a good one.
