First of all, Pat will not sell you something you don't need. He convinced me to go with fir exterior doors instead of mahogany and i couldn't be happier with the results. The quality of work is great as well. Pat installed new laundry doors with inlaid slate that look amazing. Custom or straightforward, Pat does professional grade work. I highly recommend him and am looking forward to using his services for the remainder of my door upgrades.

All went well. I appreciate that Mr. Stone made time in his schedule today to help me fix the door and lock issues that have been driving us crazy for a while. I also appreciate that he charged me less than what he originally quoted because the work turned out to be less difficult than what he estimated.
Description of Work: Mr. Stone repaired a broken front door handle and several interior door handles in my 1924 Spanish/Craftsman home. All the interior doors and handles/hardware are original and some have seen better days. Mr. Stone fixed mechanisms so doors stay shut and repaired handles that were falling off. He also helped me repair a crack in a wood swinging door as well as removed a key a guest had broken inside a back door lock. The "B" rating on responsiveness is because I had to call him three times. But, in all fairness, I understand that he is an independent small business owner with no other staff. So if you call him, be patient and follow up if you do not hear from him within a few days.

Pat is awesome and he knows his craft! He arrived on time and went to work straight away on the bathroom pocket door. I explained that we could not use the pocket door since we moved in 3 years ago because the door pull was broken. Previously we had 2 contractors look at the door and they said we would need to bust out the wall to replace the track and would cost us a lot. Pat evaluated the situation and said he could try a few things that might work. He repaired the broken door latch, put the door on track and oiled the track - all in about 15 minutes and the door works perfectly now! We have a sliding glass patio door with 3 parts and Pat removed the doors and spent a lot of time cleaning and replacing the wheels so the doors would roll open smoothly. He finished the job and the doors are working like new. Pat is a professional, arrived on time, knows his craft, prices are reasonable, it was a great experience. We will hire Pat to do additional work for us again. If you have problems with your doors, don't hesitate to call Pat, the Door Doctor. You will be glad you did!

I had patched the rotting wood sill under our french doors as best I could for the last few years but it was now beyond my skills. Our french doors are non-standard size - read expensive to replace. Pat assessed the situation and advised on replacing the sill only as the door and frame were still in good shape. He completed the job with the utmost care and gave advice on upkeep of the wooden sill, frame and doors going forward to minimize any future damage. He suggested we look at installing gutters as our house has lots of wood trim that is difficult to find - read expensive to replace. Pat gave some advice on what to do until the gutters are installed to protect the door from any rain. He also tweaked our 2 other doors that weren't opening and closing correctly. I wouldn't hesitate to call Pat again for any door repairs, and I just wish he did other work as well.

My husband and I made the mistake of removing our front door on our own and to replace the old hinges with new. After several hours of effort and frustration, we could not get the door back on correctly. This forced us to slam it shut which caused the door knob and weather stripping to gradually shift out of place. I reached out to Pat in the fall of 2013 to schedule a time for repair. He called me back within a day. When I talked to him he said he was very, very busy and booked about 4 to 6 weeks out. Pat did warn me of this and he couldn't actually commit to a firm date at the time. I checked in a once more but I think I got lost in the shuffle because he was juggling a lot. Eventually our door was starting to get worse, so I tried him again over the winter - and again Pat responded within a day and was actually available to do the work. I was able to schedule him the following week and he even came out to do a repair New Year's morning. We have a tricky door with old weather stripping that is beyond the novice door DIYer, but the actual repair took Pat about 30 min. We were very happy with the result and I thought the price was fair. I would definitely recommend Pat for door repairs, just be prepared that his schedule may be busy at certain times of the year. For us this was not a problem, but this will not be entirely convenient if you have a more urgent need.

Pat came out and did a measurement. He provided the websites to go see what doors we wanted to order. Pat does not do the finish work on the door and my son-in-law was coming from Oklahoma for Christmas. He is a door and cabinet guy who is very picky about his work. My schedule got very busy and by the time I called Pat he told me it would be close if the doors came in before Christmas. I got lucky and they did come in on the 18th. Pat knew I wanted Nick to do the stain work on the door. He went out of his way to make sure he had them installed. He even came out on Christmas Eve to get the work done. Nick needed to get the stain from Lowe's so he could finish them on Christmas Day. Nick said Pat did an excellent job of putting the doors in and it was a professional job completely. Since Nick is so picky I knew the installation was good. Nick has the doors done and they are just beautiful. If I get a chance I will take some pics and see if I know how to download them for everyone to see. I couldn't be more pleased with his work. I have had some bad work in the past and decided to check out Angie's List. I'm sure glad I did. Everyone I have chosen has been great and no complaints about their work at all. Pat is very busy so be patient. I would use Pat again in the future for sure.

The contractor, Pat, started work by replacing our wooden front double doors with pre-hung fiberglass doors. We originally selected a high quality secure Baldwin lock system which required them to be mortised into the door. Pat said that he was not sure that he could mortise in the lock system. He also mentioned that he felt they were no more secure than a "regular" lock system and convinced us to forego the lock for a non-mortised Baldwin lock. I do not feel that Pat was knowledgeable about the Therma Tru doors and/or the Baldwin locks and perhaps the patience to mortise a good lock. Both are NOT big box store items since they are higher quality. Front Doors During installation, Pat informed us that the double handles had to line up either looking from the outside or from the inside. We didn't understand why not both but stated that we would rather they lined up from the outside. Since he had already drilled holes in the door before he asked, this meant he would have to replace the passive door. Pat did not charge me for this change out but do not understand why the question was not asked beforehand. For the passive door (the one not used often), no plate was installed in the frame to secure the bolt. The bolt went into a hole drilled into the frame. New Window Pat demolished the old aluminum sliding door and framed in a new window to a smaller opening. After the framing and installation of the window, we inquired why the sliding window was not aligned with the frame. i.e. the window was installed crooked so that when the sliding glass window was moved toward the edge to close there was approximately a 1/4" gap at the top and no gap at the bottom. The slider could not align with the frame since it was crooked. When this was pointed out to Pat, he tried straightening out the window but a gap still remained. He said that was the best he could do. We did not understand this since he framed and installed the entire window himself. Person Garage Door The person garage door was installed as a pre-hung door. The frame was deeper than the original door. Consequently, the new door frame extended into the garage. We were not concerned about looks in the garage. We were concerned that since the frame extended beyond the depth of the 2x4 stud framing, the dead bolt was held close only by the 3/4" frame - no more. We felt that one could have just leaned on the door and pushed it open. In an estimate by another contractor, it was pointed out that our door required a shallower frame to insure the dead bolting was secure into a stud Finish Pat had asked for no money until the job was finished. We offered to pay for the doors upon delivery but Pat declined saying he would be completed soon. Upon completion of the job (the same day the last screw was installed), Pat asked for final payment. I was not at home and, due to what was seen earlier, I requested to inspect the work prior to payment and would take the check to his house that night if necessary. Pat lost his temper and could not understand what the problem was. We reluctantly give the check to him - our mistake since the work was not satisfactory. We exchanged emails and Pat claimed that we could never be satisfied nor did we allow him to come back and make the job right. He also said that the conditions we described was not how he left the job. We offered to send him pictures of the incomplete work and would hold this evaluation if he still wanted to discuss our differences. It has been a week and we anticipated that he would NOT come back to address our problems. Today, we began the correction work ourselves. We had also informed Pat that we had not received the warranties. Baldwin locks, Therma Tru doors, and the Milgard window all come with lifetime warranties. Pat later told us that he took the Milgard stickers from some windows he was installing and we could have it. Fortunately, Milgards now come with unique identifying numbers on EACH window. We are also currently dealing with Pat's supplier for the Baldwin and Therma Tru warranties. Pat is the Door Dr and was totally unaware of the warranties on doors and lock systems. We felt bad writing this evaluation but do not wish to have customers believe that he is the professional he claims to be.
Description of Work: The provider contracted to install 2 new front fiberglass prehung double doors, remove a sliding glass door and frame in a double pane window in it's place. In addition, the contractor was requested to replace a side garage door with a new fiberglass single prehung door.

I tried to make this customer happy through out the job. No matter how hard I tried it became impossible to do so. I was paid in full a month after I completed the job and stated I was willing to come back to address any concerns. I was informed someone else would be completing the project, however I could come back and do additional work to avoid a negative post to Angie's List. I take my grades here very serious but this is when I decided it best to cut my ties with this customer.

We were very satisfied working with Pat. He did an excellent job with the door installation - the door fit perfectly and was of high quality. After getting multiple quotes, he was the most reasonably priced. He also stands by his work. Six months later when our foundation settled and the door no longer fit the space, he immediately came back and made adjustments to the door. We would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend him again.

Patrick took down two old weather beaten side yard exterior doors and replaced them with two very nicely finished doors with windows. He installed new attractive deadbolt locks, door knobs and weather stripping. The new doors are heavy duty, much better quality than what you can get at Home Depot or Loew's. Patrick also went around the house and re-fitted/re-hung interior doors that didn't close property or squeaked. Two years ago we had Patrick fix three doors at our daughters home in Pasadena. The exterior door was so bad, due to settling, that it could not be opened in hot weather. Be aware Patrick is very busy and we had to wait a few weeks for him to get to us. But that is what we wanted, a fixer who is so good that he is hard to schedule. It was 100% worth the wait.

Of all the service providers that I've ever worked with from my wedding to our new house, none of them -- not a single one -- has been as responsive, patient, helpful and professional as Pat. It's been my experience in Los Angeles that people just don't seem to "need the work" and by that I mean that aren't prompt with their responses, they don't provide good customer service, they don't try to really make the experience a pleasant one...they just want to get it done and don't care about attention to detail or getting it right if they even follow through in the first place! Pat was a much needed breath of fresh air. He took the time to direct me to the right doors/hardware for the style of our house, he put up with my travel schedule and all of my ignorance on the subject. I couldn't recommend him more. They don't make them like this anymore.

Pat had helped me out with some other closet doors a few years earlier, so it was easy to specify the door in advance of him coming out using the online selection he pointed me to on the internet. Within a few days, he was able to come and swap out the door and do some work to the door frame, which is very old and was starting to crumble at the hinge.

Pat is awesome! He is extremely pleasant, professional, clean and efficient. He is a true craftsman who loves his trade. I had orginally called him to repair 8 original double hung sash windows. He was very prompt with phone calls and when I needed to cancel last minute because my child was sick he was very understanding and rescheduled us right away. He called before arriving and he even called to say he'd be 15 minutes late (no 6 hour arrival window with Pat!). When he arrived I had changed my mind about having all 8 windows repaired. Pat took it all in stride and did not hard sell at all. He repaired our upstairs window and the job was so satisfactory that we went ahead and asked him to service the downstairs windows as well. Pat truly appreciates older houses and the integrity and quirks of original construction. His price was fair, he worked fast but thoroughly and he cleaned up any mess. And he was very sweet to our cranky old cat!

Everything went great. Pat removed the old doors, hardware, closing mechanism and locks. He measured and re-measured to make sure before he cut anything it was correct. He is very professional. Hanging doors is not an easy job. These doors were solid and heavy. He works alone so he had to lift and hang the doors by himself. I was there every step of the way and saw how careful he was to make sure he got it right the first time. When he was done, the doors opened like a charm. He re-installed all the hardware and the closing mechanism. The doors worked wonderful! After he finished, Pat cleaned up his worksite and left no sign that he was even there (except for a pair of brand new doors). I would use Pat again. You have to keep in mind, though, that he does work alone. When I called Pat he said he would get to me in about 4 weeks. Sure enough he did. After the estimate he explained how long it would take for the doors to come in. Again he was within the time frame. Working alone is not easy, so patience if you call.

I apologize Member. And you have given me a great opportunity to resolve ongoing problems with our current forms of communication. A cell phone is a wonderful invention and if operating properly can save lots of time and miles on the road. Unfortunately "operating properly" is at best an ongoing problem. I may have let you slip through the cracks, and for that I'm truly sorry. I do try to respond to all calls in a timely fashion, 24-48 hrs. However more often than not I call or get a call that is so garbled that I am unable to return a call as the number is totally illegible. So please if you read this and you don't here back from me promptly call back and use a land line to be sure of the clarity. And please say your number so I can copy it down. If you don't hear back from me please call back

I found Patrick after searching Angie's List, and we made an appointment for him to look at the old back door and discuss what kind of door I wanted to replace it. (I had not noticed that the framing around the back door was rotted at the bottom as well, so it turned out to be a bigger job than I had first thought it would be.) Patrick arrived on time, had a look at the old back door and its framing, and I described the kind of replacement door I wanted, which was one with a screened window that could be opened. Patrick said he would have to call the supplier for price and availability, which he did, and after he got the price, I sent him a deposit check so he could order the door. I don't recall exactly how long it took for the door to come in, but it was not very long. When Patrick called to say he had the door, we made an appointment for him to put it in. Again, he arrived on time, took out the old door and its framing, and installed the new door and its thresh hold and framing and the hardware and the lock. The new door looks great, and he did a very professional job of putting it in. And, thankfully, he took the old door away for disposal too. I would highly recommend Patrick for any door work you might need done.
Description of Work: Replaced the old back door, its thresh hold, and all the framing around the back door at my house. The house was built in the '50's, and I don't know how long the old door had been there, but it was completely rotted out on the bottom, and small animals (opossums) were taking advantage of the rotted out area and were coming into the house at night nibbling on the cat food, so I really needed a new, secure back door!!

He's a busy guy so it took some time to coordinate the work schedule. My screen guy (also from angie's) told me about pat. he fixed 4 sticky wood doors in my 100yr old house. Most of them were hinged incorrectly or just plain hung wrong. also talked me out of replacing these doors since he reassured most aren't made half as well as what i already had. I had a wood frame window which was not aligned which he fixed in a heartbeat. Pat came by twice and while he was here, i just asked him to look into odd issues with my doors and windows. So make a list of all your issues, and he'll be able to fix them.
