His job went well and he didn't waste any time, when finished, I was presented with a well fitting door that matched the others in my house. His prices are reasonable, and I'd hire him again--good workmen are hard to find. P.S. Please forgive me; the above was written a month ago. When I called him back under warranty, he didn't return.
Description of Work: Patrick removed an old steel fire door from the pedestrian entrance to my garage and replaced it with a new wooden door which he made ADA compliant. He also repaired two steel screen doors which had moved out of plumb due to the building settling. He was quite alert to my illness and suggested that I lie down and rest while my cousin took over the supervision of my painters.

I apologize for not getting there to repair the door. As I told you in our last conversation that it would be sometime before I could get there and did not realize that a back door to a garage that was closing with some difficulty was such and urgent issue or I would have got there sooner than the week allotted. I'm wondering if you still need it repaired or if I should take you out of my schedule? To this customer and all others, please communicate as I take each job seriously but am overwhelmed and can only get so much done in a day

He explained everything carefully and discussed the different types of doors and cost. It took a while for the order to come in and for his schedule to clear space to install it. But it all looks great now. He is thorough, but also expensive. We think he is worth it.

Pat came in and inspected the five doors needing work. Gave me a price and a time estimate. He finished on time. My doors close perfectly now! Clearly walked in with years of experience. Easy to talk to. Well mannered and professional. And fairly priced.

Went exactly as I'd hoped. Pat ordered the door and when it arrived, he came and installed the doggy door and then installed the door. We could not have been happier with his services. I also need to note that the cost was high because we ordered a special door to match out other door.
Description of Work: Pat special-ordered a french door that he helped me to choose based upon the specs we needed. We have french doors and needed to have one of the sides of the door have a doggy door installed. He helped to pick out the door and ordered it and but a hole for the doggy door, installed the doggy door and then installed the door.

Requested Patrick Stone to come inspect two sliding glass doors to see if they could be repaired or needed to be replaced. He sent two or three emails responding to my request and said he would get back to me during the week between Christmas and New Years. That was the last I heard from him. We had a wonderful door expert from our town come out and repair and adjust both doors. He did a great job.

Here is what I love about Pat Stone...... The Door Doctor....with many repairman or contractors, they send the sharp guy or owner to your house for the bid, you accept the bid, and then they send the "workers" to do the job. Sometimes the communication is unclear or any special request is not noted. The good news is, if you hire Pat to repair or replace your doors or windows, Pat does the bid, Pat does ALL of the work, and he guarantees all of his work if there are ever any adjustments or follow up needed. Pat is a craftsman in the true sense of the word. He takes immense pride in the quality of his work, has great finesse with materials, always professional, and especially respects the cleanliness in your home. His prices are very fair, he works quickly, has a pleasant demeanor (great sense of humor!), and ultimately does exceptional work. I mentioned that I wanted to create more insulation in my home but I did not like the vinyl windows with low-e glass as I prefer wood frames. He said he can easily replace my single pane windows with low-e glass and keep the beauty of my wood frames. It is rare to find a worker who takes pride in their craft, and can be trusted not to rip you off. I can say enough good things about Pat and is my ONLY call when I need door & window repair or replacement.
Description of Work: Repaired French doors off my bedroom so it would close more securely and closed all air gaps to eliminate heat loss. Also, adjusted sliding door in living room so it would slide more easily.

I called Mr. Stone and left a voice mail to find out more information. He called back the same day and was pretty pleasant and professional on the phone. He let me know about his schedule and said that because the work I needed was not urgent, and because he was in a big project, the best he could offer was to come by in about two weeks or so. It sounded fine with me. And he did call after two weeks and scheduled a time for him to come by to evaluate our door. Our front door is an over sized, two piece door that has not been working appropriately. He evaluated carefully and let me know that he could fix it on the spot and the cost is 150 dollars if no additional materials needed. But he would not know until he took the door down. I consented for him to start working. And he spent about one hour and got the door fixed completely. It worked great like a new door. He also cleaned up the area as neatly as he could. I also asked him to take a look of our french door. He went ahead and did it without any additional charges. He said it was a small thing and he could do it quickly. He actually had to remove some furnitures and took a good look of the problems. He was patient to answer my questions while working. He fixed the door as best as he could. He told me to consider to find out the maker of the door (it's a custom built home) since there's something that's worn and torn and needed to be replaced. Overall, it was a good experience and he got the job done. I would hire him again in the future and I would recommend him without reservation.
Description of Work: -- fix the front door lock. -- fix the bottom seal of the front door. --evaluate the security of the front door. --evaluate the french door hinge --fix the french door hinge --evaluate the french door lock -- fix the french door lock.

Called Patrick Stone, The Door Dr, because of the excellent reviews on Angie's List and we weren't disappointed. We wanted a new back entry door plus a security screen door on our front entry. Patrick came over on time to take measurements and gave us a couple of web sites where we could pick our doors. We finalized what we wanted and he called us back with a price. We gave the go ahead and he ordered the doors. He did not ask for any up front deposit but told us we pay him when the job was done. About two weeks later he called and said he had everything and we set up a time for the installation. He came over on lime and got right on the job. Worked close to 5 hours straight from start to finish and even added a couple of things he didn't charge us for. We gave him a check after checking out his work and that was that. Very professional and did a great job. Would call him again for sure and also would recommend him to anyone needing door work although I believe he does windows also.

Pat was timely in response, came almost immediately, was highly professional, skilled, and personable. He seems to be a good problem solver. I couldn't ask for better.
Description of Work: French doors would not close and lock properly. Pat knew what to do and find them quickly. My heavy patio door needs complicated work and Pat recommended how to address the problem. I expect to have him do the work when I find out the necessary information from the original installer. Pat also fixed two minor problems with the front door that he noticed as he entered and left the house.

He promptly provided an estimate of $3,000 to replace three basic wooden entry doors at an apartment complex. When I questioned the price, he said the doors cost $300 each plus $100 each for the hardware (no door locks included). Total for material was $1200. That left a cost of $600 per door for labor. I thought the price was excessive. He said it was the cost of quality that would last. The work was not done.

Guess I have to take a bad grade now and then, an F for an estimate? Please, at least get the numbers right. The C panel doors cost me $335.00 ea. Complete weather strip and hinges cost me $126.00. I also dispose of old doors and hardware. I noticed there was no mention of the doors being on the third story as well as how far I had to walk from where I park my truck to do the work. I cannot compete with home depots' material prices and will not try to. The panels on their doors crack and split all the way through often within a couple of years. Their weather strip materials are also a thinner gauge and poor quality finish. I use them as a comparison as this customer informed me of their prices. At which time I told him sometimes you have to pay a little more for quality. If you are looking for the least expensive guy, I will tell you that is not me. But I do try to stay competitive while using the best materials available and doing the work the best anyone can. Thanks for your time reading this and hope this clears up an over the phone estimate.

First it is important to recognize that Pat is an independent contractor who works by himself and for himself. If you are looking to have your work completed yesterday then you would probably want to go with one of the big companies. I much prefer the idea of helping out an entrepreneur and, to be honest, most folks don't need work done that quickly on long term projects. I contacted Pat along with several other companies on Angie's List for estimates. Pat was definitely the cheapest but I also liked that he was very honest about his estimate along with his offers to try to bring the price down by steering me towards some of the websites that he trusts. I picked out the products that I liked and he came to the work site at the preplanned time without incident. He worked quickly and you could tell that he was able to complete his work with the experience of a man who has come across a lot of problem issues that need troubleshooting. Pat is very friendly and we talked a lot throughout the construction. He worked quickly but with a lot of care for the doors. They came out beautifully. I am so happy that there are no longer any gaps or issues with the swing of the doors. He also installed new screen doors on the exteriors of the front and back. They swing smoothly and allow for a great breeze through the house now. Pat had begun installing the outward swinging door on the back when he realized that the low hanging wooden posts were in the way. He was able to cut through them and allow for the complete opening of the rear without damaging the outwards appearance of the home. I was very happy with all of his efforts. Sometimes people think that the best way is the quickest, or the cheapest. I believe it's important to also include the benefit of doing business with people who share a common goal of great service that come with an old fashioned work ethic. Call Pat "The Door Dr" Stone. Great guy and great work product.
Description of Work: Pat completely installed a new rear door complete with weather stripping as well as refurbished our two existing wooden doors that had never properly been installed.

Pat was very responsive, including during the period when we were considering whether to use him. He answered numerous questions via phone and e-mail, and found what we wanted. In installing the door he corrected a long-standing issue caused by sloppiness by the builder and had to do some customizing given the nature of the sidelite.

It went swimmingly.
Description of Work: I called to get the weather stripping repaired on my front door. To my surprise, the Door Dr gave me the following advice: "Wanna save some money? That is a cheap and easy fix that you can do on your own." He proceeded to give me step by step instructions on how to remove and replace the weather stripping. Something I expected to pay $100 for, cost me $4.83 at the local hardware store. Thank you Door Dr! I will definitely use his services when I need them in the future.

Again, Pat never came out to do work on my house because he was able to ascertain that there was an easier, more cost-effective remedy that spared me the expense of having a professional out to fix my door. A more unscrupulous contractor would not turn down an opportunity to come do costly repair work, even if in reality there is an easier fix that the homeowner could do themselves. Pat took the time to carefully explain what I need to do to fix it myself, even though he didn't earn a dime for his time. That said, he earned my respect, good will and my future business, since I know this is an honest professional. Knowing that who you hire is honest and has your financial interests in mind is perhaps one of the most important factors in finding a contractor to do work on your home. Based on my experience with Pat, I can say that he has the kind of integrity that homeowners seek when choosing who to do work in their home. He will be the first guy I call the next time I have a job
Description of Work: I contacted Pat to inquire about possibly replacing a combination door with a broken window. Instead of coming out and fixing the door, Pat was gracious enough to walk me through a simple and cost-effective fix that I could do myself. He might not have gotten my business for this particular job, but he will be on my short list for any future work I need involving doors in my house due to his responsiveness, professionalism and willingness to go the extra mile to save a potential client unnecessary expense to something that can be done by the client him or herself.

During the initial estimate Pat showed up on time and was very pleasant. He explained exactly what work would be performed and suggested things to reduce the cost of the installation and left it up to me to decide whether I still wanted replacement of certain items. I was going to paint the doors myself and he made some helpful suggestions. He told me about when the materials would get to him from the manufacturer and that he would call me. When the materials showed up he promptly called to schedule the installation and showed up at the agreed time. He again explained how he was going to be doing things and was careful when he worked. The worked was completed on time and he made sure I was satisfied. Very pleasant to talk to.
