Description of Work: Gave me a very detailed report (both orally and in writing) about the situation I asked him to assess, and explained factors contributing to the estimate. When he explained why he would not do the job I sought to have done, he provided me with other contractors. Total class act.

Scott was great to work with. He was super responsive from the get go. I had initially called another arborist that was highly rated on Angie's List, and he never called me back. But I'm actually glad because I doubt this other company would have done as good a job and been such a pleasure to work with. Price was in line with what I was expecting, I knew it wasn't going to be cheap, but I felt like I got a good value consider the scale of the job. I wholeheartedly recommend The Urban Arborist and plan to use them again for ongoing maintenance.
Description of Work: The previous owner of our house had planted (and not maintained) several trees that had grown massive and were encroaching on our house and our neighbor's property. One of them was dead and needed to be taken down before it completely rotted and came crashing down. I was super nervous about how these massive trees could be safely removed from our tiny city lot. Turns out it was no problem, the crew removed all of the trees that had to go and we also had them trim several other large trees that we kept, but that were in dire need of trimming. They did a fantastic job, they made it look easy (when I know it wasn't!)

Blocks and ropes were used to lower the limbs, tree top, and higher trunk rounds gently to the ground directly beneath the tree. They completed their job exactly as they described with a climber and crew of three others. The side yard, sidewalk and street was left neat and clean. The crew was well mannered, polite and professional.
Description of Work: Removed a large, 70 or so foot tall, dead, headlands pine tree from our side yard. Parts of the tree were over our two story building other parts over adjacent playground structures.

I am the member who did not get a call back for my May 11 voice mail message. Annie, the Urban Arborist's office manager, called me today (June 12) and explained the situation in a polite and professional manner. I appreciated the call and I wish the company well.

The Urban Arborist pruned my neighbor's large tree and seemed to do a great job so I asked for a reference, which she gave me. I left a voice mail for Mr. Sikelianos on May 11 and have not heard from him. Business people should at least have the courtesy to call back to say the job isn't for them or whatever excuse they want to use. So a competitor got the job.

The redwood took from 9 am to 2pm. On reflection it would have taken longer than expected since only one climber, Jesus, could climb this trunk and do the work. He used his safety harness contiuously, handled his tools and chainsaw judiciously and safely. Two assistants below were in charge of breaking up the large limbs and taking to the chipper. Jesus was fast creating steps to climb up and around and then cleaning them up going down. The remaining branches were in excellent condition after the trimming. Approximately 50% of branches and debris was removed and yet privacy was more or less maintained. Joe also stated that the remaining branches would fill out and our privacy with the remaining branches looked to be secure and was fine now without waiting. From the upstairs deck watching Jose get to the top was thoroughly enjoyable. We now have a return of our view of the Oakland hills, and stripe of the bay returned. After lunch, the front tree work was started. Joe and Jesus were up in the tree working quickly. The guys below were stacking the branches that were also put into the chipper. This was more straight-forward and the tips of the branches were trimmed with obviously sharp pole loppers. The crew overall appeared relaxed, safe and responded to request to a couple of areas needing a little more trimming but this was scant participation on my part.
Description of Work: We had two large trees. The back redwood was at least 25 years with a height of 4 stories in an enclosed Bernal backyard. The canopy extended over 4 yards, more than halfway. It needed trimming to get sunlight, see the east bay again and Joe's team accomplished that beautifully. The neighbors were content as well. We wanted to maintain privacy as much as possible for all neighbors. The tree was beautifully? full and dense with treefall, broken or old branches. Our yard could no longer support a vegetable garden with a shrinking sun exposed area in the summer especially. The front tree is a urban forest loquat. It has a 25 year growth and some trimming throughout by husband and had nice substantial trunk and branches under a canopy of about 40 spread. Our property was 25 Feet wide. The branches were surrounding wires crossing the street to two houses and we needed to reduce the chance of cable, phone and electric problems.
