He knew my priority was low maintenance. The look of the other yard had pavers with dimondia in between and plants at back of yard. I told him that's what I liked. He said her yard was smaller and he couldn't use as much stone. Therefore I selected a stone less than half the cost of the one she used, wanting it to be used as much as possible. He later admitted spending only $100 on stone!!! He gave me a yard with many small plants about 3' apart, and a lot of mulch. He used cardboard as a weed barrier. (?) When weeds came back just two weeks after completion of project, he said I could hire his assistant to remove the weeds, for an additional $80 to $100. I said there weren't supposed to be weeds, and he needed to put in a weed barrier such as plastic. He had them put down cardboard a second time and re-weed. (This was done while I was out of town.) I said that hadn't solved anything. He said he "provided the most possible garden for the small budget I had to work with." At present, the weeds (oxalis. a type of clover) have nearly engulfed the plants and covered the mulch. The cardboard is popping up all over. This project was done in October and it is a weedy, cardboardy mess. I could furnish photos. He offered $600 as "final settlement" but it will be $1200 to $1400 to remedy yard and I am headed to small claims court. Based on my experience, I would not recommend hiring him. My housing complex has agreed he will not be approved for future projects here.
