We had a great experience with Nelson and his team at Modamas. Nelson went over our entire house exterior, pointing out areas that needed to be sealed. We live in the Outer Richmond and dry rot is always a potential problem due to the fog. It is well known that preparation is the most important part of a painting job. Nelson and his team meticulously went over all the areas to be painted and filled and sanded trouble spots. We have a metal vent near one of the peaks of our house that was rusting. They sanded the vent and put on a rust protectant primer before putting on the matching final coat of paint. When the fog rolled in, as it often does in the Outer Richmond, they patiently waited until the areas to be painted dried out before proceeding. The team always arrived on time and finished the job on time. Nelson was always available when I had any questions. Modamas is a painting company that emphasizes quality work. They are honest and reliable and take pride in their work. A lucky find for us.

The Modamas team did a terrific job on all aspects of the project. The first step was the cleaning and preparation of the building for its painting. The employees who pressure washed the building worked carefully with us to avoid water running into the interior around all the windows in the building. (Our building was built in 1895 and the window frames are not air tight so this was a crucial part of the work.) Next they scarped and sealed up all crevices and removed any dry rot. Their carpenter did a great job on some of the ornamental parts of the building. We asked to use a Consumer Reports highly rated exterior paint instead of the paint Modamas usually uses and they worked with us to make sure the colors were the same as we were replacing. (Note: Modamas painted the building exterior 12 years earlier and that paint job still looked good. We decided to repaint last year because of the threatening weather promised by El Nino.) We can't say enough about the crew members. They were courteous, helpful, punctual (always on time), worked diligently throughput the day and offered some creative suggestions regarding the painting of some of the ornamental details. Also, they left the work site clean at the end of each day. They recommended Pacific Scaffold Co, and we were likewise very impressed with their work. Set up, tear down and removal of the scaffolding was done very professionally. These employees also were great. They really knew what they were doing. We would use both firms again in a minute without any hesitation.

Chose another contractor due to price being 70% higher than other bids received. I suspect Modama's was very busy last fall as they could not start the project until Dec and were offering a 10% discount to schedule Jan / Feb.

The painting was great -- they worked long hours and did a fantastic job. They used so much caulking on the outside we've had no troubles at all with leakage. Overall fantastic job painting -- very good attention to detail, including moulding, etc, very attentive, very friendly, amazing work Their color consultant, Debra, was not good. She was very friendly and helpful, but clearly had no idea what the colors chosen would actually look like on the house, and it came out horrible (we called it Ketchup and Mustard). Fortunately Fabian and the Modomas team made it right, came back and helped us fix the colors, repainted the facade, all at no cost. We're all happy with the final result! Long story short -- Modamas does a great job, but don't use their consultant Debra.

Modamas did an excellent job all around, with one exception I'll get to in a minute. We got three quotes and Modamas was the middle, but they gave us a discount for doing both interior and exterior work. Modamas spent an incredible amount of time on all of the intricate detailing in our house, especially on the inside with all of the molding and doors done in Oil paint. I'm certain that if we had gone with either of the other two choices they would not have spent as much time as Modamas did to get it right. The one problem we had was the color consultant they were working, who did a very poor job. When they were done painting the exterior our house looked like Ketchup and Mustard, it was hideous. The owner of Modamas actually came back and worked with us personally to fix the color scheme and paid to have his crew redo the front of the house. At the end we are very pleased with the craftsmanship, service and value that Modamas provided and would definitely use and recommend them again.

Very well. Very courteous, punctual and responsive. They finished up about a month ago and everything seems fine. They were thorough and careful about having us check their work to our satisfaction.

We had had a previous painter who walked out on the job because he felt we were too high maintenance in trying to select the trim colors for house, a 19th century Victorian with lots of scroll work and details. Modamas came to bid the job to pick up where the loser painter left off. Deirdre was a pleasure to work with, found fabulous colors and helped us figure out how the color scheme would work, and was flexible with our chaos (we were moving temporarily on the heels of the job). Modamas found extensive dry rot the other painter was literally glossing over and repaired it well, and all in all did an excellent job, gold leaf and all. I will have Modamas continue to paint my house whenever it needs it. They are simply fabulous!
