The other job was good, they were supposed to do another job for me and then I didn't get a callback which is disappointing because I wanted to have an on-going relationship with them and this is like we're going for a month and I contacted them but I think the job went good. It looks good, there's guarantees and it looks like the work was done good and efficiently, they did a little more than they had said they were going to do. Overall, I would give them a good rating for that job. Their quote was the best, they were really professional, but if I want to give them for a separate job, I feel they are bad for professional and punctuality because they didn't get back to mewith a quote and they said they would but they still haven't. What's disappointing is that it's hard to find good contractors especially in a city like San Francisco and I thought I had but the relationship I guess isn't on-going. If I was to combine both jobs, unfortunately I got to give them a "C" because one was an "A" and one was an "F", they totally failed, they didn't even get back to me on the quote. I sent them a message to remind them about it, they said they'd get it and it's been 3 weeks since then. I wanted to use them again but I'm not sure, I'm a busy person, a few hours that I spent on this job and it's not happening and now I've got to leave, they made me look like an ass for my neighbors and so unfortunately probably I won't use them again. It's hassle because of the professional and it's a real disappointment. They're the first contractor I found, I just moved in this place, I was really excited about finding good people and then he really dropped the ball, there's no other way to explain it but there's no on-going relationship that I was really looking forward to and it didn't happen. There's a lot of work that he could have done and I know it's busy here in San Francisco and I guess it's not that big of a deal for them.

After working with numerous vendors, large and small, throughout the 1+ year remodeling process (from design through construction), I am comfortable saying that things never go perfectly. It's easy to provide great customer service when things are going well -- but our experience has taught us that the true test of a vendor/contractor is how they respond when things are bumpy...and major remodels are inherently bumpy with unexpected twists no matter how good the team or your planning is. I can only say wonderful things about Emmet's customer service and attention to detail. From day one, he has repeated that his goal is that we are happy with the end result. He balances great service with practicality, expert advice, great craftsmanship and professionalism. He will tell you like it is -- i.e., if we want and quot;thatand quot; it will cost $X, but if we want that it will cost $X -- he will not make promises he can't keep just to blow sunshine [in places the sun doesn't shine]. He is exceedingly calm and responsive. He genuinely cares about your project and home. We found McMahon Construction through Angie's List (cross-referenced with Yelp). We were initially impressed by his detailed proposal. It was not the cheapest (by far) of the 10 or so contractors we interviewed -- his estimate was among the highest. We targeted sole proprietorships that had a crew that could handle about 2 jobs at a time. We didn't want to go with larger and overly expensive companies and also avoided the least expensive options. The other complication was that we had to live in the house during major construction, so we had to choose a company that we could and quot;liveand quot; with. We have never regretted choosing Emmet and his crew. During the remodel. Emmet's crew was on site every morning at the same time -- I never wondered if or when they were going to show up (like some horror stories about contractors I've heard from friends). From the minute they arrived, they were cheerfully working, worked a full day, and cleaned-up every evening when they left (to minimize the dust as much as possible since we were living in the house). There was a LOT of dust...and I will not sugar-coat it...it was difficult to live in a construction site for several months through a long and dusty remodel. But, Emmet and his team made it as bearable as possible. When things didn't go perfectly or we had to talk about expenses (even a few minor disagreements), I was always comfortable approaching Emmet for a discussion and always came away feeling like we had an equitable result. I never felt like Emmet shirked his responsibility and would adjust or and quot;redoand quot; work accordingly. On the flip side, he would explain, to my satisfaction, if something would be an added cost (change order). I did learn to document our agreements and clearly articulate expectations through this process! Emmet would meet us anytime to discuss the progress or address concerns or questions. He was also very tolerant (nice, actually) about my many many lengthy late night emails which included lists of things to do. Emmet responds quickly and comprehensively to all emails and phone calls. One of the true indicators of his commitment is that his level of customer service is the same today as it was during the and quot;salesand quot; process and the beginning of the project. It has never wavered or declined. As you can imagine, he knows us pretty well by now and he has never become lazy about customer service or taken advantage of the good client-business relationship we've developed. Even now that the core part of the project is complete, he still responds quickly to questions we have. It has been an expectation that he unwittingly set for our interactions with other vendors during the remodel. We would compare the service we received from Emmet with the service from other folks. Sadly, there was often no comparison and many other service providers fall short compared to McMahon Construction. The most important part - my family now has a beautiful home that I know is sturdy, has great infrastructure, and has been detailed and finished with the utmost attention and care. This is gorgeous quality work by a crew who really knows what they are doing. By the way, we still have lingering projects and McMahon Construction is back and working on them. I would notconsider hiring anyone else to work in my home.

Emmet and his associate arrived right on timeL 7:00 am; they tore down the old deck, removed all the mess involved with that, and began construction of the new deck. They had initially thought that the job would take two days. By late afternoon they realized that if they continued to work, they could finish it in one day. They worked until after 6:00 pm with no breaks and I had my beautiful, new deck.
