Response from Kozubek Construction
Hi [Member name removed], Are you sure you placed comments for the right contractor? I haven't met. and you never called me with any request for the job. Sincerely, Lech Kozubek from Kozubek Construction from San Francisco
My wife and I wish to give our more than whole-hearted endorsement to Lech Kozubek of Kozubek Construction. We interviewed five General Contractors for our bathroom remodel, and Mr. Kozubek stood head and shoulders above the rest from the very start. Mr. Kozubek was right on time (he always is) for the estimate. He used sophisticated devices (such as a camera that reads moisture content, heat loss, and sees through walls) to make his careful, thorough estimate. His vast experience and great intelligence were evident in the way he understood our old house and knew exactly what needed to be done. During the remodeling, Mr. Kozubek came up with ideas to make the remodel even better?as well as doing superb, detailed work and doing everything he could to save us money. The resulting remodel was twice as beautiful as our original plan. We love it! It makes our house far more enjoyable. Mr. Kozubek is as honest as the day is long. We cannot recommend him highly enough. If you need remodeling, do yourself a favor and contact Kozubek Construction first. Mr Kozubek is extremely detail oriented, and performed a masterful touch during every part of work. The result is perfect. He was pleasant and friendly to have in our home. Again, we cannot recommend Kozubek Construction too highly.
Description of Work: Here is just some of the work Mr. Kozubek performed. Expertly reframed three crooked bathroom walls. Hung special water-resistant sheet rock. Framed and cut a wall to hang a beautiful new bathroom window. Took out our old floor and bathroom tiles. Personally took us to a great tile store to pick out new tiles, and arranged with a tiler to install it. Aside from the new bathroom window, he also installed new windows in our study, a new laminate floor in the study (perfect work!), two inset medicine cabinets, a new bathroom vent/light, a new range hood for the kitchen, sanded the ugly bathroom ceiling flat, repainted the bathroom, arranged with a fantastic, inexpensive plumber to redo bathroom plumbing–and more.

I needed to have a set of attic stairs installed in my hallway so that I could install a furnace in the attic and use it for storage. The previous owners had installed a false ceiling in that part of the hallway. Lech need to cut two openings and framed them both. The complicated part of the job was the difference in the two ceiling heights was 18". Lech created a step at the top of the opening and a platform to the side so that I could easily step into the attic. During the whole job I was impressed with how clean he kept the area he was working in. Not quoted as part of the job, Lech found some nice trim for the opening that was small enough for the hallway and yet thick enough to cover the imperfections in the ceiling. He even shaved part of the trim in a area were the sheetrock was not level. He also installed some nice rounded trim on the inside of ladder opening. In the end Lech did a great job at the exact price and in the exact time he quoted. I was very impressed with his quality of work and attention to detail. I would definitely use him again.
Description of Work: I needed to have a set of attic stairs installed in my hallway. This was made more complicated by the fact the opening would need to go through a drop ceiling and the original ceiling 18" higher.

We discovered dry rot while having a hardwood floor installed, and I found Kozubek by reading favorable comments about him on Yelp. He used camera probes to determine the extent of the problem, provided detailed estimates, used heavy equipment without any dust or mess, did exquisite sheetrock and baseboard, and rewired all electricity in the rear wall of the house. He basically jacked up the back wall of the house and replaced all the supporting joists and walls. He was always informative, 100% prompt, meticulous, and dealt with problems that were uncovered without adding extra expenses or bills. As he was working on the big job, I mentioned a tree stump in the garden that I needed removed and Lech used his chain saw and took care of this without charging me anything (he said it was a bonus). He also cut and installed a section of 20 feet of fencing on my property line that had been removed to accommodate a neighbor's construction. Throughout, he was careful, competent, and his work is perfect. I have dealt with a number of contractors over the years, and Lech Kozubek is the most knowledgable and skillful I have met.
Description of Work: Replaced subfloor and five floor joists at rear of house where there was dry rot damage. Replaced wall joists, installed new sheetrock, and when done reinstalled baseboard, did electrical rewiring and did painting. In addition to the major job above, he hand chiseled a section of an old fireplace hearth to correct the floor elevation, removed an old tree stump in the garden and installed a redwood fence along a highly visible section of property line. The work went on over a period of about 2 months.

We were referred to Lech Kozubek by our handyman, Hector Mathes, of HMM's Helping Hand. The wooden front staircase of our 1908 wood frame house was damaged, how badly, I did not understand. Lech provided an excellent assessment of the problem, and gave us a tiered estimate, based on best-case and what we thought was worst-case scenarios for the repair. As it turned out, there was extensive dry rot in the substructure of the staircase, and essentially the entire thing had to be torn out and re-done, including some concrete work on the foundation. The job turned out to be much bigger than any of us expected. Lech took me through that process in a straightforward, professional, and stictly honest fashion. He physically showed me where the problems were. I have worked with other contractors who approached such situations with a high-handed "I'm a contractor and you don't know anything" approach. In contrast, Lech assumed that I knew, or would want to know, exactly what needed to be done and why. Incidental to the process of repairing the staircase, he taught me quite a bit. The work he did was precise. Lech is exactly the kind of man you want if you have to have someone poking around in the guts of your house. He is a perfectionist. He had to redesign the stairs, because the original stairs were not true, square, level, or sloped appropriately to drain. He took his time and did a terrific job, exceeding code standards. The final result was amazing: a new staircase with a reinforced substructure and improved foundation. His work was beyond fault. Meticulous is the best word I can find to describe Lech and his work. Perhaps perfectionist would do as well. Speaking of codes, Lech did an unbelievable job working with the Building Department and the Planning Department in San Francisco. He has been working in the area long enough that he is intimately familiar with the twisting, downright Machiovellian, nature of bureaucracy in The City. He was able to navigate that system without costing us an extra several hundred dollars in city fees and and extra who-knows-how-much for architectural plans. The work he did with the inspectors and bureaucrats was similar to the work he did on the structure itself: concise, precise, honest, and perfect. While I firmly hope never to have to be involved in a project on this scale again, I would hire Lech and Kozubek Construction again tomorrow. He's a good man and a great worker.
Description of Work: Reconstruction of wood and concrete front staircase.
