Jay's Small Moves

I sent Jay's Small Moves an email via Angie's List messaging system and received an email back in less than 4 hours (as promised) asking me to call to discuss move details and scheduling. I called both the office and cell numbers and was transferred to the same voice mail asking me to check their website for information or to leave a message. Since I had just received the email when I called, I was expecting someone to pick up. A little off-putting but I left a message nonetheless. Kevin called me back less than one hour later and asked me a few questions in order to determine how much the move would cost (how many pieces of furniture to move, which was the heaviest, number of flights of stairs on both ends of the move, etc.). Based on the information I provided, Kevin strongly suggest a 3-man crew, which seemed reasonable to me. Jay's Small Moves was very good but I ended up choosing a different company because of their slightly lower rates. However, I would definitely consider Jay's Small Moves againin the future based on their responsiveness and their competitive rates.

Jay's was hired first of all because they are local, had good reviews on Angie's List, and their price for three men plus truck at $135/hour was the best price we found. The three men worked from noon until 5 pm, picking up our storage in Emeryville and then delivering it to our new home in the Oakland Hills. The men were fast, friendly, and did an outstanding job -- nothing was broken or damaged at all. They asked me which rooms the boxes should go into if they weren't sure. The bonus was that they brought along an extra vehicle, a van, in case they were not able to navigate our S curve driveway and had to shuttle everything. But the van wasn't necessary as it turned out, as they were able to get the 16 foot truck up the driveway. One of the men, also the driver of the truck, who was clearly a very experienced driver, had to saw off a small limb of an overhanging tree to get up the most dense part of the drive! He had it under control, definitely! I would definitely hire these guys again! The crew was awesome!!

Jay's Small Moves was hands down the best moving company I've ever used! They arrived exactly when they said they would and were both very friendly and very professional. They wasted no time getting started and had the job completed a lot sooner than I had projected. They were incredibly organized & moved quickly but never in a manner that made you feel they weren't treating your items with the utmost care and respect. I would recommended them to anyone looking for a top notch moving company. They definitely alleviate some of the pain associated with moving.

The company was available to answer my questions through email. They called the day before to confirm our move as noted, They came on time and started work right away. The two guys, Jose and Rick, were very efficient. They delivered two pieces of furniture along the way. They packed a few items we overlooked. They hauled and set up our bed in the new place. They handled our fragile furniture carefully. I am impressed and will definitely recommend. If we have to move again (ugh!), Jay's Small Moves is the company I will call.

It was a pleasure working with Jay's and we will certainly use this company again for our next move.

Had a great experience with Jay's Small Moves and would highly recommend them. We had a tough, very steep driveway and they made sure to have a truck that could work. The packers were meticulous - if a bit slow - but the 3 guy team that moved me this morning were great, strong and responsive. They placed things where I needed them and made sure to double check on things as well (such as questioning a clock that I was leaving in the old place).They finished the job on time, on budget and with no breaks/etc..Yea J

They did a good job. They were courteous.

It was a 3 miles move and it was only one load that needed to be moved. The reason I called them was because I thought that they knew about the area and it was a little complicated because the new building had strict rules about which door could I use to move in and so on. So I would say that it was a little bit of difficult moving work to do. They were on time and they were careful with my things. They were very pleasant and I liked them very much.

They were able to schedule to show up within hours of my call, though we settled on next day. Two of the nicest guys you can ask for turned up on time to the minute, took on extra work when it was needed, and they met their estimate, which was the lowest of several providers we contacted. Great outfit!

He did a good job. I found him Angie's List, he was willing to move them when I needed him to, and he had a reasonable price. The experience was very positive.

The team showed up on time. They were polite and professional. Everything showed up in good shape and was moved into the new house without any problems. They were fast, but handled everything gently. The price was better than any other moving company we called.

I talked to a few moving companies for estimates before selecting Jay's Small Moves. Jay quoted me a price and called out that the driving time was one way, which is different than other companies. This was a big consideration for me because most of the move time WAS driving from San Francisco to Santa Cruz. The day before the move, I expected a call early in the morning to confirm the move the next day. When I hadn't heard from them by 4pm, I gave them a call and left a message. They did return my call and confirmed the move. Day of the move, I get a call at 9am, which is their scheduled arrival time. They were in traffic and running a little late. No worries for me since the clock didn't start until they arrived. So, for my move, I got Jay, the owner himself. He told me he usually needs to stay in the office to schedule and do estimates. However, the guy originally schedule for my move had worked very late on a move the night before. So Jay was stepping in so the guy could take a later move. What a cool boss to do that! Jay also mentioned he likes to meet the clients and he misses doing the moving from time to time. His helper Frederico helped un-assemble my bed minimally because he figured out that the bed could be moved out of my bedroom without being completely disassembled with a blanket and some pivets. That was Awesome because that saved time of assembly on the Santa Cruz side and money! Loading up my things, including the bed, was pretty straight forward. When the truck arrived, they pulled up my driveway and then came to look around. One omission on my side was that there is cobblestones walkway, which made it tough for even footing for them. But they worked around it when they could. Federico helped move out my old bed and move in the new one. It caused a bit of assembly problems because I took it partially apart initially and then he was trying to figure out how to put it back together. In hindsight, I should have left the bed as is and had them un-assemble it so they would know how to put it back together. So the 3 of us worked on the bed setup for a few minutes and there was a bit of rework. At the end, everything was brought in, no damage to anything and the move was actually a little less money that the phone quote. I had a great team from Jay's Small Moves and would use the company again for any future moves.

The four man crew were very courteous, professional, polite, and easy to work with. They were on time. Our move was considered a medium-sized move. The crew were very helpful in ensuring that we were happy with the move.

I liked the people I came in contact with at Jay's Small Moves, though they don't seem like a professional moving team. The problems started when it became apparent that the estimate was off by at least an hour. I ended up spending 3 extra days trying to move the remainder on my own. I am only writing now because I am still finding things that were damaged in the move, mostly because of what I think was a hurried job. My European Sleep Works bedframe (the only really 'nice' thing I own) has chunks of nicked damaged wood where it was improperly transported. That was the first time it had been moved, so I was saddened that the bed frame had not been more carefully transported. I did end up paying overtime because the estimate was way off-I had no choice...or what hire other movers? I really wanted to give my Oaktown some business and felt as though Allen should have been more realistic when setting up the assessment before the move. I was billed for the overtime (as forewarned), but not given my Angie's List discount. I phoned them up when I remembered, a day or two later and was given the discount.

The two men who came from Jay's were fabulous. Auggie and Oscar were on time, careful, cheerful, fast and extremely acommodating. They could not have been more helpful. I was totally paranoid about re-setting up my computer and TV system, they helped me do it and it all worked the first time. What a relief!!I cannot say enough about how satisfied I am with this company and their service.

I used them once probably in July 2011 and twice in November 2011. They are great. They are very detail oriented and careful with the furniture. They are on time, and their fees are reasonable. They are very flexible because they do not care how small the move is; as a matter of fact, that is what they do. If I have one piece of furniture to move, I can call them, and they will do it. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.

They even had a handyman that could install my wall bed which took about 4 and half hours to set up. They did get everything set up so I was able to sleep in my bed on the first night. We did review the bill and adjust the pricing due to about a hour and half of work that was spent getting the correct supplies for the wall bed installation. They did not break anything at all and I had a lot of fragile things.

fantastic - probably the least stressful move experience we have ever had. Professional service, very responsive, on time and did a great job packing quickly and efficiently. Reasonable price for an all day job due to the 7 hour round trip drive for them. I would definitely use them again for my next local/ in state move. Thank you!

They were very good. They did a good job. They were professional. Overall, they were excellent. I would use them again in the future.

Otman, Rickey, and Victor arrived right on time and were very professional from start to finish. Otman explained everything before they began and allowed us to ask questions and describe any special concerns. They worked quickly and efficiently and went above and beyond the call of duty in helping us hook up our washer/dryer. They were very conscientious and were extremely careful with our things, making sure to wrap or strap items that required extra care. Overall it was a good experience and the guys were a huge help to us in our move into our new home.

The move took longer than they expected and had to call in for additional help. Ultimately got the move done but took longer than expected, had to pay for the extra hours and extra help, and had to finish up the move on my own because they were pressed for time. Team was very professional and hard working. Would use them again for a small/medium local move.

We hired Jay's for our small, local move. They did a great job. They arrived on time, carefully packed and wrapped everything, and moved our house efficiently and professionally. I'd definitely use them again. Very reasonably priced as well. Our move cost $200.
