We bought a house and during the inspection we learned that our water heater was improperly installed. As a result, it posed a possible carbon monoxide hazard. Our inspector warned us not to move into the house without first re-installing the water heater properly. Our inspector estimated that the cost would be $1,500. So we found Baron and Excalibur on Angie's List and asked him to look at the heater and provide an estimate. He looked at everything and confirmed that the water heater was indeed improperly installed. He told us he was going to help us save some cash, and recommended that we didn't need to do anything more than what was needed (I was considering a tankless water heater but he told me it really wasn't needed, that the existing water heater was in great condition). He not only reinstalled the water heater according to the proper specifications, but he also fixed an exterior vent that was too close to our neighbors roof line--he added a 5 foot extension on the vent so it wasn't a fire hazard. All this for $400! We received a second estimate from a person our realtor recommended, and their estimate was $1,500. Baron saved us $1,100! And his work was great!
Description of Work: We needed to have our water heater reinstalled to the proper specifications so it wasn't a carbon monoxide hazard. We also need to extend an exterior vent above the roof line of our neighbors' house so it wasn't a fire hazard.

Old water heater broke on the Saturday of the Columbus day week-end. I called him, he said he would come check it out on Tuesday 10AM, he was here at 10AM sharp, confirmed the diagnostic, explained my options and installed a new water heater a couple of hours later. Couldn't ask for more.

My water heater went out in September 2008. After a couple precise questions, Baron, the one man behind Excalibur, gave me a definitive quote that was both lower and less wishy-washy than the other plumbers and water heater vendors I called. He specializes in this and knows how to fix your water heater problems fast and accurately, doesn't try to upsell or pad the bill with additional service charges. I very much appreciated the flat rate he quoted for the job (including affixing pipes and seismic straps), his timeliness, and work well done. He also gamely answered my many questions while he did the work and gave me detailed instructions on how to get my EnergyStar rebate from PG&E. I've had no problems at all since this was done two years ago. I gave him a B for responsiveness rather than an A, since he couldn't get to my job until the day after I called. This is to be expected since he's just one guy, but water heaters replacements are often emergencies!

We couldn't be happier than we are with this company. Our old 75 gallon water heater broke, and we wanted to talk to someone really knowledgeable about the options now available, particularly since the old one was crammed so tightly into its cabinet with the furnace that it made every problem a very difficult problem to fix. Exploring the options with Baron, I felt completely confident that he knew what he was talking about and was giving advice in accordance with our interests, not his own. He diagnosed our situation promptly, scheduled the work as quickly as was possible, came exactly when he said he would, treated the areas where he worked with respect and kept them clean, did some extra work while he was at it that wasn't a necessary part of the job (like replacing some plastic pipe with copper pipe, even though this was unrelated to the water heater) and just generally made me feel that I had someone eminently competent doing an extremely conscientious job for us. Plus he's just clear, pleasant, and generally easy to deal with. I don't think you can go wrong with this guy. Oh - and he gave us a very good price as well.
Description of Work: Excalibur installed a new tankless water heater to replace our broken 75 gallon water heater. They removed the old one, which was in a cabinet so crowded that it was extremely difficult to get out. But they did it.

Excellent. On time, honest, professional. What impressed right away was that his service vehicle was a hugh gleaming white truck. When I see repair vehicles in good shape, I tend to think that the repair service is a cut above and recognizes the value of first impression are lasting impressions.

They are great. It is rare for me when I find companies that do such a good job. I got estimates from other companies and I was going to go with another company. When the person came and looked at the situation, they said they couldn't do it because it wasn't up to code. I called these people and they came promptly. I liked their ads and that is why I called them. The guy was so great. He explained everything and he gave me several options. He didn't violate code, but he found ways to work around certain problems which didn't seem to occur to the other people. In the end he couldn't do one of the things that he had hoped to do, but he had explained that this particular product might not fit. He said that he would bring both out and we had to go with the second option. He made the effort and he was great. The price was very reasonable.

My current thought on getting a water heater is "why waste time with other companies when you can get Baron?"
Description of Work: We got a new installation of an on demand water heater which required some electrical work and other complications. The job was done as described for the price quoted. My husband offered to remove our old water heater to help defray costs which he did and the discount was substantial. Baron came when he said he would, within 5 minutes (he was early) of the assigned time, kept in touch via email prior to the job being done, was quick, friendly, efficient, clean, and pleasant.

I had a great experience with Baron. He took the time on a Saturday to understand my situation and explain all of my options. He was very thorough, responsive and friendly. He came when he said he would. He explained everything that he did when he was finished. I can't say enough great things about him! By the way, I've used him before for a different place. I thought I needed a new water heater, but when Baron came he explained that all I needed was a new connector (fraction of the cost). I was very impressed that he didn't take advantage of my situation. Great guy!

Our water heater had been leaking. I called Baron and left a message after 5PM during a weekday. He called me back within 15 minutes. He asked many questions and was very informative. We discused the possible solutions. His first objective was to fix it, if not than replace it. He helped us pick out a reliable heater that fit our needs. Baron came out the next morning and replaced the water heater. He honored the Angies List discount and even took off another $50 as it was a quick and easy install for him. Bottom line, an extremely pleasant experience!

Job was quick and easy. We found a leak in our 25 yr old water heater and needed a replacement. We searched Angie's List and Baron's recommendations looked great. We did some research online about what was most suitable for our personal home and water needs and called Baron to discuss the choices. He was very knowledgeable and guided us through the decision. He showed up on time and got right to work. There were no hiccups and I don't expect that we will need him to come around again.

After getting the run-around from another large, corporate water heater installation company, I joined Angie's List in desperation. I called Excalibur Water Heaters on Saturday afternoon and reached the owner, Baron, on the first try. We discussed the leaking water heater which was ruining my kitchen subfloor. His website is very useful in that you can see the water heater models, their installed cost, and various ratings, which made it relatively easy to choose the appropriate unit.We tried to schedule for the following Monday, but since I had to be out of town, He agreed to rush to his supplier's warehouse to pick up the water heater that I had chosen so that he could install it the next day (a Sunday!). He arrived the next morning on the dot, and had the whole thing done in 3 hours, despite some unexpected site conditions which required changing the plumbing lines to make space for the larger unit. When he finished, he made sure that I knew how to apply for my PG&E rebate and provided me with all of the documentation required. Baron had a great attitude and was a very efficient and conscientious individual.

Baron (the owner) returned my call within the hour and was at my home to check out the scope of the project the same day. He was thorough, informative, and patient as I had a lot of questions, especially, regarding tankless vs. traditional water heater. 2 days after the estimate, Baron and a helper came for the installation. The work was done in a timely manner. Materials used was good. Quality/skills of the installation was excellent. Baron has a lot of pride in his work and it shows. I would most certainly recommend Baron to anyone who need a water heater.
Description of Work: My 25 years old water heater was leaking and it was located in an inconvenient place in the the garage so I decided to move it when it was time for a new one. The cost for the top of the line residential 50 gal heater was $1300. My cost was more because of additional labor/pipping involved to move it.

Byron came over within an hour of my call on a Sunday. He assessed the situation -- need a new water heater, gave me some replacement options and quotes and came back Monday and replaced the heater. The actual replacement took less than an hour. And he told me about how to apply for the PG&E rebate. Really great service, very nice and good sense of humor.

Baron Sherrill was on-time for the job, He did a very professional job. At one point he realized that the tank support bracket was not correctly mounted. He could have used it as-is and we would never have known. Instead, he took the time to correct the issue. Cleaned up better than any other installer I have ever used (and there have been a lot.) I was very pleased with the whole experience.

Excalibur Water Heaters did an excellent job. Baron was very responsive to my inquiries over the phone and by e-mail, guided me through my decisions over tanked vs. tankless, gas vs. electric, and the size of the heater to get. He was also extremely punctual. In addition to the new water heater, he replaced a section of the old pipe, added a new shut-off valve, and put in new wood blocking for seismic safety. After installation, Baron thoroughly cleaned up the garage -- which is now cleaner than before he came. He also walked us through how to get PG&E rebate, how to turn off the unit, and how to adjust the temperature. The total price in the end is exactly the same as what he published on his website, minus the $50 Angieslist discount, which he honored without my even asking for it.

Baron came a little earlier than our meeting time, he examined the area, made suggestions of which size to take (he brought both 40 and 50 gallon sizes!) and what needs to be cut off for the installation. He installed the heater, clean up the area, tested the unit. He signed the water heater with his name and also added pertinent information for future references. He went through the PG&E rebate, and also applied the Angie's List discount for me. I'm glad he honored accepting credit card as he advertised. Our house is from the 1950's and because he had to cut out the wood and dry wall to make the water heater fit, the insulation of the wall is now showing and the area he took out did not look as neat and tidy. I understand he is not in the dry wall business, it would have been nice if everything look sharp. Baron takes pride in his work and he is in it for the long haul. I would describe Baron as a "Pro" in his business - he knows the ins and outs of installing water heater, and does it with transparent pricing. This is all I ask for.
Description of Work: Our water heater started to leak a little, it was sooner than I expected for the time that we need to replace it. I was preparing maybe next year. I quickly went through Angie's List and found high remarks for Baron's business. I proceeded to go through his web site. The site is clear and transparent, even with the pricing information (installed). I was sold, without even contacting a second contractor (who has the time!). I communicated with Baron initially by e-mail, he was very responsive. We were interested in a tankless water heater, after Baron explained the pros and cons (price and installation), we decided not to and went with the conventional water heater. He discussed the two models and two sizes he carry and their warranties, we narrowed it down to Rheem and leave the size decision open. Because of the age of the house, I took a picture of the set up and send it to him. I also took measurements of the opening (it was in an enclosed area), the make and model number of the water heater. I called on a Thursday and he came out on Monday. We went out of town over the weekend, or else he would have come out (WOW!).

Baron answered my questions by phone and helped me decide the best water heater for my needs and location - for example, I didn't need double insulation because the heater is inside the house. He quoted me flat price that included everything - and there were no surprises. The price he quoted is the price I paid. He showed up on time for the appointment (a bit early, actually), got started right away, completed the job in about an hour and a half and cleaned everything up. Then he took the time to explain the heater to me and told me to call him if I had any questions or problems (although there have been none so far).

our water heater failed and Baron talked to my husband on the phone and got specifics from him (measurements, location etc.). He came out the next day and replaced it. Great experience -- my husband handled the entire transaction and Baron made it easy! I am cross-posting his Yelp review here: --- Baron is the man. No bells and whistles, but seriously one of the nicest guys on the planet. I called with a water heater already in mind and he sold me a better one for less money!!! I think I had to change the appt. time 2 or 3 times and he didn't even blink an eye. "No problem, I'll see you then", as simple as that. He showed up 5 minutes early and got straight to work. I totally felt comfortable to leave and run errands and when I got back he was done (almost a half hour early). He had to make some modifications to the house, add a couple of new valves and hoses but no extra costs or change orders! The price on the web site was exactly the price I was charged. Let's face it, if/when you need a new water heater you want someone to do the job right the first time and do it well, Excalibur is DEFINATELY the one to call. He's proud enough of his work (rightfully so) that he signs the water heater when he's done. --- That's right, Baron is such a rock star, he autographs the water heater. I'm probably the pickier of the two of us and I was very impressed with the quality of Baron's work. Thanks Excalibur and thanks Angie's List. It's finding great service providers like Baron that makes being a member so valuable.
