We used Dirty Hoe to work on our plant list, garden design, irrigation installation and plant installation. We have a typical Outer Sunset garden, 25 ft wide, mostly sandy soil. Several kids and a cat factored in. I wanted low water, but still nice flower detail. Initial plantings were of high quality. Irrigation system has worked great. We'd worked previously with another landscaper who pushed too hard for his own ideas and didn't really get our family and what we needed. Bernie was great, he listened to what we needed both from the use of space and the kinds of plants we wanted and we are very satisfied. They have also come back a couple of times for garden maintenance. Work has been very professional, they come when they say they will. They are not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
Description of Work: Dirty Hoe Landscaping did a great job.

I have used The Dirty Hoe for landscaping services for several years. The last time he was here he pruned a plum tree for us. He is very easy to communicate with and is very personable. The quality of work is very good, he knows what he is doing. I do not care for the name of the company but other than that I find him to be very professional. He will not do lollipop trees, he wants the natural look of the tree. He also does not use a lot of pesticides. He will charge us per the hour or per job since we have been a long time customer.

They helped us with plant selection and in preparing the beds. We didn't need them to plant any trees or anything. They were very professional. What I particularly liked about Bernie, the owner, was that he listened to our requirements. He asked me about my family and pets and all that. He did those basics well and really knew his stuff. His price was perfectly fair too. I would certainly recommend him to friends.
Description of Work: We used DirtyHoe Landscaping for plant design and some planting in our backyard. They also put in an irrigation system.

Description of Work: I called this company concerning getting an estimate concerning installation of an irrigation system in my very small rear garden. I even mentioned Angies List in the initial call. The estimate was needed for a 2 unit condo. Most of the back yard is covered by a deck, but there is a garden about the width of 40 feet on the north side of the deck, and L shaped configuration of 5 feet past the deck. I do not recall the name of the man I spoke with. I was told me it would cost at least $1500 (I think they said it was their minimum), which I thought was ridiculous for a garden of this size with an existing outdoor electrical plug and a water source (a faucet and hose). He never asked about these features. He also never offered to come out, he just said it would be a $1500 minimum, and I said that seemed excessive. It was my sense he felt the job was too small to bother with.

They’ve also worked in my neighbor’s yard because we talked about them. I thought they did a nice job. They worked steadily and they consulted with me about what I wanted to do as they went along. They followed up to make sure everything was satisfactory and we’ve talked since then about the possibility of having more work done. They were professional.
Description of Work: DirtyHoe Landscaping transplanted a rather large tree, put in a small patio area with brick, and took out a number of rose bushes and some very invasive bamboo.
