+ -1 moreAngie's List had to go through 17 painters before they found Jack. Jack was able to fix some really lousy texture work from other painters who did sloppy work. I tried to fix it myself too. Jack is very skilled and has attention to detail. He can fix any painting texture issue and do excellent finish work. That is hard to find these days.
Description of Work: Jack Carroll re-textured the walls where other contractors and painters messed up.

+ 1 moreI liked them and everything but I needed something different as far as scope of work went. Their quote was reasonable. Jack Carroll who came out was good. He just didn’t do what I wanted him to do. He was very responsive. The work I was looking to get done is a little bit different than painting. I couldn’t find anybody that knew what I was talking about. I have a foam roof and I wanted it re coated. There are no companies in this area that has experience in re coating a foam roof. It has to be re coated every five or ten years. One has to reseal it every so often. The last time it was done, I did it myself. I didn’t want to climb up on the roof anymore because I’m getting too old. I decided that will not be appropriate to hire a painter to do this kind of roofing work. I think the problem is with the material.

+ -1 moreOur kitchen had the ugly, dark kitchen cabinets common in the 60s with the dark metal hardware. I hired Jack to paint the doors and front face of the cabinets. To save money, I removed them, removed the hardware, and my wife and I mounted new hinges and handles and hung them up when he was finished. The cabinets are now a striking bright red color - he only uses benjamin moore paint which is the best. No possible way I could have done as good a job painting them. It would have taken me forever to do the work. He cleaned, primed, filled holes, and applied multiple coats of red paint. Kitchen looks brand new. He is very professional and did everything in a timely manner. No complaints.

+ -1 moreWe got lower bids, but these were obviously firms who wanted to get in and get out. Plus, the estimator was never the painter. Jack bids the job and also paints the house. If you don't like something, he fixes it on the spot. The most important part is the man loves paint. He enjoys looking at the finished product as much as you will. As far as the lower bids go, make sure you check all the extras they charge you for. Jack's bid is golden, no add-ons unless you change your plans. He's a pleasure to have around too.
Description of Work: We have a 115 year old Victorian home in San Francisco. Jack gave a detailed estimate, consulted with us several times about colors, did extensive wood preparation, including filling old nail holes and spots where woodpeckers and workmen through the years had drilled through the wood (this is where the real work is done -- don't believe you can get this kind of preparatory care with a cheap estimate. Without the prep the work will never last). He also fashioned several decorative ogees (window friezes) in his shop. Then he very carefully primed the house, twice, and put on two finish coats over that. This included intricate four color window treatments. When the house was done, he also primed and painted our iron fence and stairway railings, one original to the house and one brand new. You can't tell them apart.

+ -1 moreWell, see above. From start to finish, I've never had a more satisfying experience of home repair/remodel.
Description of Work: Jack Carroll plastered and painted two large rooms in our 100-year-old Victorian and also repainted a recently added upstairs bathroom. He did so many extra jobs along the way I can't really describe them in detail. Every task he undertook was completed with a degree of professionalism and attention to detail (yes, including clean-up!) that was astonishing. I can't overstate the skill and patience with which he approached the job, or the cooperative spirit with which he undertook the numerous extras we threw at him along the way, including opening a wall and locating the source of an unexpected leak, repairing old cabinetry, and refurbishing damaged woodwork. In an era when craftsmanship is hard to come by, Jack and his crew definitely live up to that standard.

+ -1 moreCarroll Painting did an excellent work in all aspects, from start to finish, including helpful adivice about colors and paint brands and qualities. Total time was about 31/2 weeks - a little longer than anticipated do to some extra work that we added on toward the end. Carroll Painting was very flexible and accomodating throughout the process.
Description of Work: Painted several exterior and interior walls and ceilings of a two unit remodel, including all necessary repairs and prep work including all materials.

+ -1 moreI think I've pretty much said it. The only thing to add would be that I have hired Jack for several other jobs as well, and have found his work to be consistently good. I've also recommended him to friends who needed exterior as well as interior work, most recently a Victorian facade. They were thrilled with the job.
Description of Work: 500 square foot live/work studio loft with high ceilings, exposed beams: living room/kitchen, bathroom, upstairs sleeping loft. All new colors (excellent color consultation). Elegant, efficient, precise work.
