We hired Andre to do a walk through of our new home and help us prioritize the work we would need to do. He was thoughtful, smart and honest. He was referred to us by someone who had hired him to do extensive remodel work on their home. When we get to the point where we will need an architect we would like to work with Andre.
Description of Work: Meeting and walk-through.

Andre is the kind of person who goes the extra mile for you. He went way above and beyond the call of duty when it came to working with the City, and really spurred us on to victory! Andre is not only a creative and wonderful architect, but he's also a terrific member of our local San Francisco community. Down the street from us there is a large open area where he pitched in and volunteered and drafted a plan for transforming a blighted public open space into a beautiful garden. And thanks to his terrific design, the local neighbors won a grant and actually did the work and now it looks great.
Description of Work: Andre advised us on a major restructuring/renovation to the bottom floor of our home, and then really helped us through a permitting process with the City for a lot split application.

He was very nice. He does high end residential and he specializes in lighting. He was way too specific and too high level. His quote was very high. He does a lot of commercial. He came in a nice suit and did a nice presentation. We can't spend $20,000 for the architectural design and we were looking for something simpler. He had the highest price. He was a nice person but he didn't meet our needs. He was responsive and came on time. He was very professional.
Description of Work: We got a quote from Andre Rothblatt Architecture to remodel the entire rooms and back porch within city code.

Andre gave us a great deal of time as we conceptualized our project, he provided his services at a reasonable cost, and he brought an exceptionally high level of skill, competence, and creativity to the job. We loved his design sense, and he came up with wonderful, imaginative ideas that we would not have thought of ourselves. He was also flexible and willing to make changes in his original design when our concept differed from his. In other words, he did not have an "attitude" about our addition being "his" project. His overriding concern was that we be satisfied and happy with the end product. We have since recommended Andre to two other families in our neighborhood, and both have been tremendously pleased with the job he did for them (one of which ended up being an award-winning project).
Description of Work: After my wife & I had a child we wanted to put an addition on our house. Andre came highly recommended by a local contractor in our neighborhood, and he did not disappoint. In fact, he exceeded our expectations. Andre designed a second story of living space totaling approximately 800 square feet and including a new master bedroom, a bedroom for our son, a home studio/office, and a second bathroom. One of Andre's ideas that we loved was taking a section of exquisitely detailed exterior molding from over our first-floor bay windows and using it to fabricate the same historic molding for our new top-floor bay windows. So the new story looks as though it was built at the same time as the original 1926 structure. Andre also redesigned our existing kitchen and dining room, which are both vastly improved, more attractive spaces.

Since we had never remodeled before, we asked our friends about who they had selected as the architect for their kitchen remodel because we were very impressed. They told us they used Andre. We were and are still very satisfied with how the remodel went and would and have highly recommended Andre.
Description of Work: We hired Andre Rothblatt as our architect to design a remodel of our 1950 kitchen, a bathroom and a half bathroom addition, along with relocation of the water heating and furnace systems. He also assisted us with the selection of appliances, fixtures, granite, cabinets and accessories. He also recommended our general contractor, Podesta Construction, who did an excellent and timely job. He also served as our advocate from the start of construction to the project completion.

We first read about Andre in the Chronicle and decided to interview him and check his references. All went well and he was Architect of record. My wife and I are working professionals and each has our own small business. We always wanted our home to be design with certain elements of comfort that are also elegant and contemporary. In series of meetings with Andre we were able to narrow down on our requirements i.e., open kitchen, formal and open forayer, large windows to capture S.F. view, etc. In each of these meetings he presented three options for us to discuss and critic. This was very valuable for us to learn how to articulate our thoughts in architectural drawings. Some people are very good at it, but not Farimah and I. In short, Andre encouraged us to be involved in all aspects of schematic design, material selection, windows selection, tile and stone selection, and finish touches and colors. His handholding and going actually to different stores to select materials were very valuable to us, but they were very time consuming and demanding on him. Andre helped during all these steps to make us feel comfortable going forward to completion. He designed series of unique features, including wood work in forayer, curved French door in kitchen, alcoves in the ceiling of dinning and master bedroom. We stayed very close to our budget, but went 10% over, more or less. We would recommend Andre base on his creativity, performance, and personal commitment to his project and his clients. Hope this helps.
Description of Work: We retained Andre Rothblatt as our architect for our home addition and remodeling project in early part of year 2000. For each major elements of schematic designs he noted our requirements and in return presented us with three options and walked us through pros and cons of each decision. After schematic design and construction documents were completed, he worked closely with our general contractor to make sure it's built as designed.

Andre was great to work with. I was looking for someone to help bring my vague vision and desires in updating a 1910 Edwardian flat with its tiny kitchen (minuscule counter space and cabinets) and split bathroom into a grand chef's kitchen that opened into the adjoining dining room and updated baths. I had ideas, but I definitely needed someone to design the work that involved removing part of a wall, and reconfiguring some awkward spaces. Without the time to spend searching and comparing every type of cabinetry, knobs, and counter top, I also wanted someone who could help out with interior design choices. He really understood what I wanted (transitional style bridging traditional and modern), and came up with some great ideas I had not even considered (adding skylight in the kitchen, heating bathroom floor, replacing nonfunctional fireplace with built-in entertainment/bookshelf unit). He was also able to help with day-to-day issues with the contractors, since I did not really have the time to do so with my job. He's very easygoing and pleasant to work with, and I would highly recommend him to others. Everyone who's seen my remodel is very impressed by the work. I would definitely work with Andre again. Just check out his website to see examples of his beautiful work!

Andre had many good ideas and the remodeling work turned out very well. Everyone who has seen the job has been very impressed. Andre knows a great deal about building and was able to answer my questions about the construction of my home. He provided three contractors for me to choose from and the one I chose was very knowledgeable and did a beautiful job. Andre was very attentive and followed up on the job.
Description of Work: I hired Andre to design a room and bath on the lower level of my home and to design a remodel of my upper bathroom.

Our 1935 home was designed by an architect whose portfolio already included many of the lovely homes in the Balboa Terrace, Monterey Heights and Forest Hill neighborhoods of San Francisco, but whose design expertise almost always stopped at the kitchen door and particularly at all four doors leading to our tiny kitchen. When my husband and I decided to have this ancient and dysfunctional kitchen brought into the 21st century, it was very important to us to find an architect who would be very sensitive to the traditional and somewhat formal design of our home. The challenge was to create a fully-equipped functional kitchen within the 10' x 10' envelope, and expand the adjacent 3' x 6' powder room into a full bath with shower. Andre Rothblatt, AIA met this challenge admirably and with brilliant creativity. Andre transformed a kitchen whose only work surfaces were a 24" x 24" countertop and a wall-mounted drop-down ironing board into a beautiful and functional space. Our new kitchen integrates seamlessly into the traditional design of our house. The compact but very comfortable and traditional bathroom is just steps away from our guest bedroom. Remodeling projects are not without difficulties and setbacks, but Andre's many years of experience with the city permit process and his precise and reasonable design resulted in our project being quickly approved and thus completed within a reasonable amount of time and within budget. Andre's infinite patience with my seemingly endless "what ifs" made it a joy to work with him. I recommend Andre Rothblatt without hesitation and will certainly call upon him to design the next phase of this home's improvement!
Description of Work: Mr. Rothblatt created the design for the remodel of our kitchen and expansion of our powder room into a full bath.
