Ace's Garage Door Repair & Installation

Their rep seemed irritated to be doing a 4pm job; rushed and was in/out in 15 minutes and did not communicate about the work at all besides offering me a sticker to put on the wall with their phone number. I realized it was a $49 tune up special but I assume they offer those to generate more biz down the road. Not this time. The garage door is working fine but I wasn't left feeling confident about the provider.

The crew arrived several hours late and within the first five minutes I need to be an additional $ 179 for the service. Lesson learned, if I buy any more coupons from Angie's List, I will be very careful about what I am buying and make sure that the services i receive are inclusive rather than having to pay added fees.

I was quoted an estimate over the phone of $400-500. The actual price came out over $100 higher - $660. I was told TWICE I would be sent a check for the difference. I have never received the refund.

Though I listed my availability for the work to be performed as asked on Angie's List, I never heard from Ace's Garage Door Repair & Installation. I contacted them and scheduled an appointment. The first tech. called "while en route" and cancelled as he did not have the right equipment - huh? I never heard back from Ace's until I called and scheduled again. The next guy showed up (with an assistant who never got out of the passenger seat of the service truck) and convinced me of the additional work to benefit the appropriate function of the door. I agreed as I had not had my garage door serviced in more than 13 years. However, the service tech. did not know how to incorporate the payment I'd already made on-line through Angie's List for the original work nor how to credit me that amount. He had to call his supervisor who gave no clarification on how to re-conciliate this issue. I had to negotiate a lower price than previously quoted for the additional work and paid via credit card. They do not use POS "Square" or other card swipe mobile device payment service as I had to write my CC billing info. on paper docs. - "old school" and not as secure. All that aside, this tech seemed to know what he was doing and was efficient in his installation. I intentionally waited more than a month to do this review as I wanted to see that the garage door would work without issue and it has. From recollection - as I do not have Ace's warranty in front of me - I believe all work is covered for at least 5 years.

We scheduled a time for service, and the company cancelled two different times. When they finally didn't cancel, they showed up without the promised call 30 minutes prior. Of course the problem I was having didn't occur while the technician was there. He squirted some lubricant on the hinges, adjusted the force of the motor and that was it. At one point when the garage door opened, a little lizard was hanging onto the bottom of the door, and the tech was like, "Look! Right there! What's that?!" I thought he found the issue with the door, but no, he was just terrified of a little lizard. A couple of days later the door stopped working properly again. And it's not the lizard's fault!

Right on time. Repairs were quick and done very politely.

bolts tightened, and hinges on door lubricated. the screw drive of the motor was not greased, nor were the drums that hold the wire.

The company definitely takes advantage of coming in to bait and switch. It turned out that I had a broken spring on the door, which was the opportunity the company was looking for. The technician informed me of the issue and then put me on the phone with his manager that tried to sell me on replacement (which I was willing to do). However, he started with a $450 fee, which after much haggling he lowered to $250 for both springs, while I would have settled for $200 (so $279 total for the visit), The manager did not agree to my offer, the technician could not finish the job (since the door was "damaged) and he just did a lubrification job. I eventually was able to get the replacement of both spring from another provider for $215, which included balancing, lube, tightening hinges, etc... Technician was nice and professional, the manager was opportunistic and the overall experience was unpleasant (even if I understand that they need to make a living, they also need to be fair instead of taking advantage of difficult situation for the home owner). Note that I had hired them in previous years to do that maintenance and they were doing overall a good job, but after this last experience, I will from now on use the new company that repaired my door.

These guys are complete scam artists. I had the misfortune of having them assigned to me from my home warranty company. First of all, we must have called them a dozen times, and they never answer their phone. They finally answered the messages we had been leaving them three days later. We told them that one of the springs broke. They gave a 5-hour arrival frame (!) from 11 AM to 4 PM. The guy finally came by at 5:40 PM without so much as an apology. He then told me that springs weren't covered by my insurance (apparently the fine print excluded "door track assemblies" which I suppose was interpreted to mean springs). To make things even better, he didn't carry garage door springs in his van (!!), and asked if I would pay him $250 to "special order" a pair of springs (each side of the garage door has one pair)--not including labor of course. To make things even better, he asked for a $100 service fee just for coming over to tell me the springs weren't covered, which he should have just told me on the phone (I wouldn't have scheduled with them in that case, of course). I refused, and he said that the insurance company would bill me--which they didn't after I called them. The next morning, I called Contra Costa Door. They answered their phone immediately, and scheduled someone to come the next morning between 8 and 10 AM. He came at 9:20 AM, charged me $20 per spring to replace all four springs (two pair), plus $189 labor. Done in 30 minutes. It's sad how places like Ace's stay in business.

He was fast and efficient and pleasant

I ended up not using the service, and got a credit back. Turns out what I thought needed to be done, didn't need to be done, and my garage door was broken. So they really couldn't work on it. Then they tried to charge me an arm and a leg for it. They said we can't do the work because your garage door is not working. I said well what's wrong? They said we can't fix this through the service on Angie's List until the garage door is fixed. I said ok well how much do you want to fix it? He goes $325.00. I said I am not paying you $325.00. I said just forget it. Then he comes back and said hey I just talked to my supervisor, and we can do it for $275.00. I said that is still too much, sorry. Then he left. It sat there for a month, and finally I got another guy to do it, and he did it for $150.00. Most people, provided they have a lot of money, would have thought oh here is $325.00 fix it. The guy that charged me $150.00 was literally done in 12 minutes, 15 max. So these guys would have done 15 minutes worth of work and pick up $275.00. So I thought is was a little disingenuous, to be honest. I am smart enough to know that it was a rip off to begin with, but a lot of people would not have realized that. I actually called them and told them. She got all defensive on the phone. Like I was accusing her of trying to rip me off. She said well you know we have expenses and everything. Everyone has their own gig ya know. Maybe they have a lot of over head, I don't know. When the guy was there, I said look I paid these guys to replace the rollers. He said he couldn't do it, because the garage door was broken. The garage door was down, you don't replace the rollers with the garage door up. It's twice as hard, it's over your head. The rollers, you want the thing down in the first place. So he was giving me a line of bulls!#$. The guy was oh no man, (A) you don't need the rollers replaced, (B) you shut the garage door, which was the broken position, to replace the rollers. So again, the guy was not a very good expert. How many other people, you send these guys out and they say oh I will fix this and fix that and charging them twice as much. I would never use them again to be honest. They lady on the phone was pretty rude to me. They showed up on time. They were responsive on their calls. They were trying to rip me off and not telling me the truth. He said I can't do the $75 service with the garage door stuck down. So he never did the service. He was trying to charge me $325.00 to fix the door so he could get it in the position to fix the rollers, which was not true. So. if I would have let him do it I would have been out of there for $400.00. I'm not a little old lady or some house wife, or some attorney that would just pay the money. I build for a living, I know contractors. The only reason I didn't do it myself is it had a spring on it, and I didn't want to mess with it. For what they were going to do, it was a fair price. They were pretty responsive. The guy was on time. He tried to rip me off. I would never use them.

Contractor did not perform all the services promised in their Angies List advertisement. Per the advertisement, and contract, contractor was suppose to provide the following. 1)Includes 21-point safety inspection 2)Lubricating all moving parts on door and opener 3)Balancing door for proper weight 4)Tightening hinges and making minor adjustments However, Contractor only completed Item 2, lubricate rollers and opener. After the workman left my home, I called the contractors office and talked to Nancy. She said their worker was only supposed to lubricate the rollers and opener, which he did. But she had no explanation why they advertise, and do not perform/complete, the other 3 services. The 21 point inspection, balancing door, and tightening hinges and minor adjustments, were not done. Nancy agreed to a full refund. This contractor, Ace's Garage Door Repair & Installation, is fraudulently advertising services they have no intention of providing. I do not want them to come back to my house to complete the remaining services, as I do not trust them. I want a full refund of $49 instead.

Other than reminding installer of the job, he came at 2:20 rather than the set 9:00-10:00 appointment. Once on the job, work was done expeditiously. Worker did not know I wanted an external lock and came back on another day to install. Thoroughly satisfied with the quality of the materials. Garage door looks great!

OK, but the tuneup simply consisted in lubricaring the garage door wheels.I thought there more to a tuneup than this. If I had know that I could have done it myself.

He adjusted it and it works perfectly

Mo picked up on first call. He arrived within the hour that I asked for an evening service. Quick fix to get me back in business with the garage door.

It took almost 3 weeks after I paid and I called them to get them out here. They gave me the wrong time window and I stayed home all day waiting for them. Finally showed up at 6PM. Tried to sell me a new door. Charged $275 for extra repairs

Asher was great: ontime, prepared, made minor adjustment & fixed problem in 30 minutes. then gave us excellent advice on what we cd do in future, plus told us about new wireless product if we needed for future. he's our go-to, get-it-done guy from now on. not sure on svc. date, but i think Feb?

It was just adding some oil to the garage door and quick check. Didn't take more than 10 minutes.

Tune-up went fine. Tech showed up on time and diagnosed the problem. As most of these serives try to upsell you when they arrive on additional serrvices, I wasn't surprised or offended. I am however offended that the price to replace the garage door rollers was $200, and now it included with another 'tune up' right here on Angie's list for $79 (includes tune-up and new rollers).

Great! Easy and totally what I wanted.

garage door spring broke about 2 weeks later. It would have been nice to have a more thorough inspection of the system to identify potential problems.
