Robert came out promptly to provide cost estimate. very professional. We moved forward with work that was performed by his son Jonathan and two other crew members. They showed up on time, very experienced, very professional. They prepped well, took their time and paid attention to details. Taped and covered all surrounding areas - left the site clean. Very professional crew that knew what they were doing. The color we picked out "oatmeal" was from a brochure they brought out. When the stucco was applied, I inquired about the color because it seemed to have more or an orange tent. Jonathan told me it would dry much lighter than it currently appeared.Within 1 week - several cracks appeared on either side of a column façade we have on either side of the garage door - this area is exposed to direct sunlight most of the day- and I'm guessing that might be why it cracked (?) I called Robert immediately and he told me he'd be out to fix it, but suggested we wait and let the stucco cure - and wait for El Nino to pass. I reached out to him a couple of times - he finally showed up in April to look at the cracking. We he arrived an looked over the area, he told me it was normal and "no bid deal" (it was not normal and the cracking was severe). Because of my persistent objections, he told me he'd be back in a few weeks to fix it. He asked me what color / stucco was used (he had written it on our original receipt - and I stored it in my iPhone) - so I provided him with the information. He did come out a few weeks later to patch the cracked area using the same color / info I provided him, which again came from the original receipt he wrote when the initial job was complete. When he finished mixing the stucco for the repair work - I knew right away it was a different color. I told him immediately, and he responded that he used the color I provided to him. He proceeded to show me the color mix bag - indicating 81x - apparently the "oatmeal" color. I told him I that it then appeared the color his crew used the first time must have been wrong. I told him It must not have been "oatmeal" because it didn't match the color he just mixed, which clearly marked as 81x (color code for "oatmeal" ??) He started to argue with me stating he simply brought the color I had told him for the repair....I told him I only provided the info he had written on the receipt. He asked if I had the original receipt (at that time I couldn't locate it). He proceeded to patch the cracked stucco and it was immediately obvious the color was different. I pointed it out to him (even though it was completely obvious) and he said that we wouldn't know until it dried (which was ridiculous because it was so obvious). I asked him how it was going to be fixed, and he ignored me and continued with the patch work. I asked him again, and this time asked how much it was going to cost me to ensure all the color matches (which meant they'd have to reface the existing stucco to the color oatmeal - because I have no idea what color they applied the first time, there was no way to match it because I don't know what they applied). He responded and suggested it would cost $350 to recoat in in oatmeal color. Because it was his word against mine regarding who's mistake it was regarding the color "oatmeal" - and because I couldn't locate the receipt - I agreed. He returned the next week to recoat the remaining mystery color stucco with oatmeal - the color we originally picked for the job and his crew should have applied. He provided me with a new invoice for $350 and I suggested to him that I would be willing to split the cost with him, because I did locate the original receipt, and the original color pamphlet Robert had provided us where we had selected (and circled) the color oatmeal (now we had the original receipt with the color "oatmeal" written on it, and the original Pamphlet with "oatmeal" circled). The receipt also contained other details about the stucco that Robert recorded (back when he handed me the original receipt, he stated "keep this just in case we need to match the color at some future date"...) It was quite obvious his crew applied the wrong color during the original stucco work. I explained to Robert that it didn't seem fair that I was being requested to pay for his mistake. I pointed out to him that he himself had provided all the details about the stucco on the original invoice. He snapped back saying that maybe he just wrote down what I told him, that maybe I gave him the wrong information about the stucco when he was writing the receipt (like I would know it was La Habra stucco, 16/20, "oatmeal"... ?) I tried to explain to him that the only reason the recoat was necessary, was because of the crack patching that was done in oatmeal - and now the patch work didn't match the original color (and that it appeared his crew applied in error). He proceeded to yell at me and use profanities - and said that I owed him the full amount. He stated he didn't want to discuss anything - and simply wanted full payment. He was not rational, reasonable, nor professional. He stated if I didn't pay him the full amount, I could just keep my money (stating "if you can't pay me in full, you obviously need it more than me"). Despite my numerous attempts to discuss the situation with him, he refused, continued to use profanities, jumped in his truck and drove away. Never once did Robert take any accountability or ownership for their errors on this job. Very unprofessional. What turned out as a good initial experience ended up as a fiasco and unfortunately he'll lose a lot of referrals he would have otherwise received from me. I would NOT use his services again!

Mr. [Member Name Removed], Where do i even begin? First I will address the cracks on your garage columns. We applied the stucco on your columns in the manner prescribed by the manufacturer and to code according the city of Los Angeles. Forces of nature like the amount of sunlight your columns received while drying are simply out of our control. To hold us accountable for such things is absurd. In the stucco and plastering business, cracks are a fact of life. They happen and will continue to happen. All we can do as plasterers is try to reduce them and their severity by using different methods and techniques. They can never and will never be completely eliminated. Secondly, there is not one plastering company, including ourselves, that guarantee against cracks. Not one. Robert agreed to repair the cracks on your columns only as a one time courtesy to you because of your "persistent objections" and because of our commitment to our clients and their satisfaction. A fact that i think you clearly exploited. Next is the issue of the color. We employ several measures to insure a mistake, such as the one you're describing, simply does not happen. The color and base are checked BEFORE it is ever loaded onto our truck, checked again before we LEAVE the supply yard, and checked one LAST TIME before we commence mixing. At each step it is checked by several employees including Robert himself. In 30 years of being in the stucco business we have NEVER applied to the wrong color to a home. NEVER. I can say with absolute metaphysical certainty that we applied the correct color, the color you selected, to your home and to the repairs. Because the manufactures utilize natural raw materials to make their products, color can change drastically because of the natural variation in the ingredients. We have seen instances where we leave a bag of base and color from the same batch of the application date, to do later work, and the color looks almost completely different. Color change is also due to the fact that the stucco that has already been installed has been exposed to prolonged periods of sunlight, rain, wind, salt, and any other number of variables that are completely out of our control. All that we can do is apply what you tell us to apply and what the manufacturer provides as far as materials. Lastly is the issue of payment. You stated it yourself, we provided all documentation showing that the color was in fact Oatmeal, and you agreed to the repair cost of $350. I have images of my fathers text conversation with you that show you agreed. It is only after we are almost finished with the resurfacing of everything that you call Robert inside and completely broadside him with your proposition to only pay for half of what was previously agreed upon. That is not how we do business. We went above and beyond the call of duty for you and this is how we are to be compensated? I think not. It is evident that you had ulterior motives and let us commence your repairs under the guise of a gentleman's agreement, but, its is clear now that you are not a man of your word nor a man with integrity. Rest assured that it is WE who choose to no longer do business with you, and we have not lost your referrals, but in fact your referrals have lost us, a great and reputable company with incomparable skill and workmanship. Good day to you, sir!

Excellent job! They removed the wood, reframed my window, and added flashing to prevent water from getting into the decorative bricks on the front side. They matched the color of the stucco to the rest of the house and it looks amazing! I'm very happy.

Following an exchange of several email, sharing of photos of stucco failure and scheduling an appointment, Robert Vargas Plastering called to say they only wanted to work in the Valley. Perhaps they should make this more clear in their listing.

[removed member's name] We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Do to our high quality of work and impeccable reputation we are currently extremely busy and completely booked for the foreseeable future. We can sometimes, on rare occasions, fit projects in between other larger projects and ask clients for pictures of the work needed to evaluate wether we can fit the job into our busy schedule. With your project we were simply unable to accommodate the time needed to help you. We do not like to commit to a project we can't focus on 100% and finish in a timely manner. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience and hope you found someone qualified to remedy your repair.

The job was very well done. The proprietor was early, asking me first if would be okay to star the work earlier than we had discussed. He chose stucco that was the same color as the exterior paint so that was a bonus. When I asked him questions about next steps he provided great suggestions. I would strongly recommend Robert Vargas without hesitation. He did great work for a very good price.

Really late on this review... But Robert did such a great job it really is worth giving the credit he deserves. I had a 3 foot high 180 foot long retaining wall taken down and rebuilt around a portion of my property. My mason ensured me he could not only build the wall but could smooth stucco it as well. Building the wall went well and his guys started the stucco process, the rough coat wasn't the smoothest but it was hard for me to judge at that point, but when they began to stucco I nearly had a heart attack. You could see every stroke and when viewing from an angle, the wall was not only wavy but you could make out each cinder block underneath. Honestly, I totally freaked. My mason couldn't understand what I thought was wrong, he even brought me the bag that said 'Smooth Stucco' on the side to show me he bought the right stuff. Apparently he didn't realize technique and skill set was also required. So I walked him over to a neighbors house which was smooth stuccoed. He felt the side and said, 'Yeah, I can't do that.' So I started looking up stucco guys on Angies list, Robert Vargas Plastering was my pick. He came over the same day I called, he was doing a job nearby. He agreed that the previous work done was sub par and he knew exactly what was needed to both fix it and what it would take to bring it to the level I was envisioning. Robert is full of confidence in his work and obvious experience. A few weeks later he and his son re-stuccoed the wall, they began with attaching wire and corner beading for the new rough coat to adhere to. I could see the difference in quality immediately. Even before the stucco was applied. It all just looked...right. The final product was fantastic, the wall was smooth to the touch with beautiful clean corners. It really accentuated the house if not bumped it up a notch. I'd definitely work with Robert and his son again.

Call Robert for your stucco work! Based on the other reviews i contracted Robert to pull off the clapboard on our '50s ranch and replace with stucco. Also had a couple of holes from an old AC wall unit and a window we were removing plus trim around a new exterior door we installed. He came out gave an estimate, is a super nice guy, and is responsive. I had to get a few things done (removed the old window and some door trim) before they came out. They scheduled around me and arrived on the day they said. His son, also a good guy, was present for all the work with Robert stopping by for some of it. They worked extremly quickly. Even though we are getting ready to paint the house he color matched the stucco to an almost identical color as the current color. Job came out perfectly. The crew was professional and polite. Everyone worked hard. Cleaned up when they finished. They answered all my questions. The insulation plus the stucco makes a noticeable difference on both the inside and the outside. Visually this is the best bang for the buck we have gotten so far. Will certainly call Robert and his team again.

First thing I want to say is HIRE Robert Vargas. I would have give him an A++ if I could. Having had bad luck with a contractor we were very leery about hiring anyone. I received the usual guys coming out giving estimates nothing special, then Robert Vargas came into my life. From the first moment you meet him you want him to stay for supper. He is the nicest man, patient, very funny and kind. I had Tex-coating on the house and hated it because the Texture was so thick plus it was cracking and peeling. Others told me it would need special sandblasting and I knew it would be very messy. Robert told me all he had to do was apply special bonding coat over the Tex-Coat then apply the new Stucco, he has been doing this type of work for 30 years. He left me with charts of the Stucco colors available, answered a million ? that I had with a smile on his face and told me when I was ready give him a call, no pushy sales talk. He said to me "All I want to do is make you happy and we will do it together". I was sold. First I put blown in insulation in the house from the exterior which I had to do first before the stucco. When that work was done, I called Robert, he came out again and said he would have to put mesh covering on the areas where the insulation was blown in because the new stucco might crack, but he did not charge me anything additional for it. Now I have to say Robert is very busy and I now know why. I had to wait 3 weeks before he could start but that was fine with us. He showed up right on time with his son John (also fabulous) and 2 other workers. First they mast everything and laid tarps over all my cement walkways and pavers in the front, two sides yards and back yard. The first day was prepping, repairing all the damaged areas on the house and garage. The second day was adding the Bonding plus Robert put samples of the stucco color I wanted. Now what you have to understand about Stucco is that it goes on very dark but lightens up about 70% and at first that concerned me because as the sample was drying it got very light. I called Robert immediately, He came back and we discussed my options because I liked the color I picked which was LaHabra Saddleback but thought it dried lighter than I thought it would be. What we ended up doing is double the color pigmentation in the stucco which gave it a richer look but it still dries light and again he did not charge anything additional. The third day Robert came with his son John and 5 other men, all very professional. They all seem to enjoy their work, they sing, laugh, whistle all the while working non-stop until the job was done. The Stucco went on very dark almost like Chocolate but as the day went on it was getting lighter and lighter. The texture they did was a fine sand all hand troweled. It looks beautiful. I am so happy. Also Robert would show me when they finished an area and wanted me to look at it to see if I was happy or had any concerns. It will take about a week to dry and Robert said about a full month to settle into its permanent color. I have minor plaster work that needs to be done in the interior and when I am ready to do that there is only one person I will call and that is Robert Vargas.

Description : We had to replace the front door frame on our 1929 built Spanish home. We had another contractor lined up to do the work but he was unable to because of health problems. We contacted Robert on short notice and he was able to squeeze us into his schedule. My main concern was getting the texture of the stucco repair to match what was done in 1929. Robert is a professional who takes pride in the quality of his work and has a lot of integrity. He and his crew were great. He responded to vm right away and gave me a reasonable estimate of the work to be completed on both the exterior an interior of our home. He went above our beyond our expectations. The patches they completed on the exterior to cover up the old wall air conditioners were seamless its hard to tell they where before. He fixed and repaired old shoddy stucco patch on the back of the house the correct way including saws all down the old wood protruding thru the patch. Now it looks perfect lie to never happened. They did the same great seamless plaster repairs to all our old vents and now they are smooth as a baby's bottom. I plan to have him come back later to stucco around 2 new window we are having replaced. I would highly recommend hiring Robert and his supper crew on any plaster/ stucco work to be done in the future

Robert is a pro! He did exactly what I needed, and more than that -- he told me honestly why certain other things that I pointed out to him shouldn't be "fixed" because they weren't real problems. Where I had a concern that turned out to be purely cosmetic, he suggested solutions that I could pursue on my own; where I needed his expertise, he did the work immediately and it looks fantastic. Would DEFINITELY call him for anything that comes up again.

After getting numerous bids we decided to go with Robert for re-stuccoing our house because we liked his proposed solutions to a few difficult situations we had with windows and repairing and refacing the stucco on a retaining wall that had been badly neglected. Robert was very patient in explaining the pros/cons of the various finish options and provided helpful guidance on what would work best for our home. We could tell he really new his craft, the price was great, and being licensed and bonded sealed the deal. We couldn't have been more pleased, the crew even started earlier than they said they would and were there everyday as Robert had promised. Robert was always there helping his crew and managing the effort. Since we couldn't decide on the final finish style and color he put up samples of about 6 or 7 variations which took quite a bit of time on his part. The result was beautiful, small crew applying but all highly experienced so the house very consistent throughout. Cleanup was excellent everyday, nothing left over for us. Would highly recommend Robert and his team.

We had a very good experience with Robert Vargas Plastering. This work needed to be done by a certain date because of a large party we were having. Robert answered his phone on the first call, and called us back promptly when needed. He came out and talked over the project. He made some really good suggestions which we used. Two days later a two man crew showed- up early and began work. They knew exactly what had to be done, and worked really hard. We knew it would require 2 days, and once again showed up early and worked all day. They cleaned up and removed all their stuff. I was really surprised - I have had workers here before and there was always something left for me to do. Not this time - the work area was left cleaner than before their arrival. We are very pleased with their work. The job looks great. In fact, we have another project which we will be having them do,
Description of Work: We needed the stucco across the entire back of our house.

First off I can't say enough about the service that Robert and his team provided. I was almost ready to give up on finding someone as the prior quotes and professionalism I was receiving was making me nervous about the whole process. Then I found Robert on Angies list and the day I talked to him on the phone I had a good feeling that the experience was going to meet my expectations. Robert was on time, very professional, clear to what was going to be done, provided suggestions and options, clean with his work, and on top of all that showed that he does his work because he likes what he does. Even my neighbor?s heads turned when they saw how fast and clean his work was on my house. I cannot express how happy I was with the outcome. His attention to deal was also important as he even cleaned up work that other contractors had made a mess of (example the caulking around the windows). When you have to spend a good chunk of money on work you want to make sure you are happy with the outcome and that I was. I would suggest anyone needing plastering or stucco work to give him a call because he provides a overall great experience to work with. Thank you, thank you, thank you Robert and team!!!!
Description of Work: We had the wood siding completely removed from the front of our house, insolated, and then replaced with stucco.
