He returned phone call timely and was early for our initial appointment. We met a 2nd time to give him plans bc he does not have email even though he has an email address on his card. He was very late because he was waiting at the wrong location, but was likely early at the other location. He is old school and does not use a GPS, but not a big deal. He said he does use email but lent his computer to his niece. He said over the phone he does all is own work and even though he is on the older side, I believe he does most of it. However, I was very disappointed because I thought that he would come in under other companies that used estimators and hired subs. Instead, he was substantially over. e.g. Highest bids were $23k and he was $29k+. When I brought this to his attention he very quickly came down to $25k. I was really disappointed because it was such a time waster for me to met up with him twice. I originally hired someone for $20k to do the project and that included demo of the original structure and to rebuild to code for 8'x20' area. That person did the demo and completed foundation inspection and poured concrete and just started to put up some walls. The guy had a situation beyond his control and could not complete the work. So I excepted the bids to be less that $20k since a substantial part of the job was done. Also, he wanted a 5k deposit. CA law is that they can only as for max $1k for initial deposit. In addition when I did not want to go with him he wanted his estimate back, I guess so there was no evidence that he was asking for 5k down. I got to see one of his jobs he complete in a house that was for sale. I did not check with owners to verify that he did the work, but it looked okay. You could see the seems on the ceiling of the sheet rock in garage, but the rest of the work look very good, assuming he actually did it. P.S. I also asked him about the two F reviews about him not showing up, because he had so many good reviews and he said he was away on vacation but the two reviews were far apart and he already talked to them so he should have said he was gong away if that was the case. It all just does not add up.

Spoke with Victor and set up an appointment for 07/25/12 at 5:30 pm for him to come by and check out the room that is needing the work done. I took personal time off of work to go home and meet him... at about 6 pm when he still hadn't arrived OR called, I figured he wasn't coming. I called him and left a message that he had missed the appointment and that I would not be available to meet with him that evening. No response since.

We are very happy with their work. Victor stuck with the estimate even though the concrete work turned out to be more difficult than he had imagined. Being bilingual also helped since he was able to fully communicate with my wife about her desires for the bathroom. His guys showed up every day at 7:30am as promised and they finished the job only one day late. I expect to use them again in the future as I make additional improvements to the house.
Description of Work: They converted our half bath downstairs into a full bath by adding a tub with a shower. The work included removing the old sink and vanity, removing drywall on three walls, removing concrete in order to install a new drain and removing the old window. They installed a new window, new backsplash, tiled the walls around the tub and tiled the floor, installed a new sink and handicap bar for the tub. They also moved the electrical outlet and the vanity light.

He provided the solution for the last issue referenced and executed the work. The other work was requested and he performed what was required. Victor was pleasant to work with.
Description of Work: Victor helped us repair some cracking concrete, some other repairs around the complex and provided a solution out back where the garbage disposal workmen were slamming the trach bins into our residents back fences and ruining the stucco walls where the bins are kept. He made it so they couldn't hit or move the bins back into the affected areas, while still keeping the bins where they belong.

The install went well. Victor was very professional from the estimate to the completion.
Description of Work: I had Victor install a SkyVue patio cover. It looks wonderful and he was very reasonable regarding the delays I had in shipping all of the components in the patio cover. The price was higher than the estimate but that was because I had him do a patch job on the side of my house and the price of the supplies. Overall, I would recommend Victor highly and would use him again.

He was diligent and detail oriented, and checked everything. He was okay in terms of the price; the reason I haven’t worked with him isn’t because of the price but because my plans have completely changed. He was prompt in response. He made a followup phone call to check to see if I had made any plans or decisions about the remodeling and everything. I don’t exactly remember where his quote was compared to other ones, but it was pretty reasonable; he was within range of the other ones. I would consider using him in the future.

He was very communicative and called me whenever he had to make a choice about one thing or the other. He went out of his way to get a contract. He suggested there be a future board that would improve the aesthetics of the deck. He basically double reinforced the under carriage of the deck and was informative in terms of the materials needed. It looks great so far. I've already asked him to draw up a proposal for a couple of balconies I've got.

He was very honest. We called a couple of his references and they went on and on about how punctual he was and how honest he was. He was about ten minutes early for the appointment which none of the other companies we spoke with were. He definitely struck us as being very charismatic and a nice genuine guy. We actually had a number of good options for the work and we didn't use him because his doesn't have a website right now and we are very reliant on the internet. He also called in his quote and didn't email it. It was kind of like a tech thing, which kind of differentiated him. Otherwise his quote was in line with other people. He was fairly priced and he seemed like he would be a really good guy to have worked for us. We would consider him for future work only if he had a website.

You have the "story" above. Bur, it did not go further than that. Too bad because we were interested in Victor due to a telephone conversation. He did not show much interest in working if he could not go out in the rain and my husband (james Morley) drove to get to our property for several hours.
Description of Work: My husband scheduled an appointment with Victor Gonzales to give us an on site estimate of a remodeling job. My husband was out of the San Diego Area and had to drive several hours to get there. Victor phoned him and cancelled due to "rain". while I know Californians are desperate with rain, but he was not that far away. If he cannot keep an appointment for an estimate what would he do with a contracting job?

It went as well as expected. Mr. Gonzalez's estimate was very competitive, although still high, but not outrageously unreasonable, as some contractors bid the job. Overall, it was a positive experience for us, even though we did not do the job in the end.
Description of Work: We contacted Mr. Gonzalez for an estimate on a room addition that potentially needed extensive concrete work to be brought up to code. He showed up on time and gave us an estimate in the time he said he would. It was a reasonable estimate and he seemed knowledgeable and competent about the job. However, we decided to defer the work because we knew it would be an extensive and expensive job, even at the relatively reasonable cost estimate from Mr. Gonzalez. The fact that we did not contract with Mr. Gonzalez was because the cost was too high for the return on investment, not related to Mr. Gonzalez in any way. We would probably use his expertise if we decide to do any other work on this property.

The experience was great. Victor Gonzalez was prompt in providing an accurate estimate and starting the job. He is knowledgeable about all contracting issues. The workers came every day and made obvious progress daily. They were courteous and hard working. Victor paid attention to all details, put a lot of thought into every decision and followed all the way through to the finishing touches. He is easy to reach and provided daily updates. The job was finished promptly. We are very happy with the quality of the work.

Victor and his crew can do it all, which was a great relief; as I was expecting to have to hire three or four contractors to complete all the projects, but Victor and crew ended up doing the whole job. They worked six days a week, showing up every morning at 8am, and leaving about 4:30 after cleaning up. It took over seven weeks to complete everything, and they were here everyday except Sundays. If I had to hire separate contractors, I'm sure the job would have taken MUCH longer. There was no waiting for materials or the necessary workmen, and nobody ever stood around doing nothing. Everything was build better than the codes required, and no corners were cut. For example, he uses no nails. Everything was screwed (including the fence) with galvanized screws. The footing put in for the patio overhang are huge, and the 4x6 posts were wrapped with 2x8 inch lumber, so they look much more substantial and attractive. The stairs that were built are more solid than the rest of the house! Every step of the way Victor asked my opinion when there were options on how to proceed, but I almost always ended up following his suggestions. I would unhesitatingly hire him again for any job. In fact, I may have him build a second story addition for me in the future.
Description of Work: My house is 46 years old, and the outside maintenance had been neglected for about 15 years. I needed: 1. 115 ft. of new fence, treated with termite solution and painted to match the house trim. (All paint was the best quality offered by Frazees) 2. Replace three facia boards and termite damaged wood 3. Paint the stucco, trim, garage door, and the security doors and window bars, as well as a block planter and outside shower. Shower sealed before painting. 4. Replace all rain gutters 5. Tear down and replace a patio overhang, an arbor (35X11 feet total), making one continuous patio overhang, and re-roof and paint the structure. All wood was pressure treated (green wood), or treated with a termite solution. 6. Build a stairway up to the roof of the patio overhang, so part of it can be used as a deck. 7. Tear down and replace a gazebo by the spa, using treated wood and painted to match house trim. 8. Replace an overhang at the front door to offer protection against rain. Roof same with shingles to match those on the house. 9. Demolish existing planters (block and RR tie) in the front yard and rebuild using slump block. Coat inside of planters, and lay paving blocks in a walkway. 10. Cut concrete and divert shower drain (which illegally ran to the street) to tie in with the sewer line (which required building up the floor of the shower about 4 inches in order to achieve the proper slope for the line. 11. Re-roof room addition 12. Rebuild about 40 feet of potting bench on the side of the house, using treated wood, and paint to match the house trim and fence. 13. Replace three GFI outlets and install three security light fixtures. 14. Haul in 5 yards of soil and rototill in to existing soil. Level for planting.

They did a great job. The price was $200 more than was estimated because I wanted the higher-end quality Trex material that was rated as fire resistant on the Trex website. Victor did bring samples of the $1400 quote and he encouraged me to also visit Lowe's to make sure I got to see what I wanted. In the end, like I said, I selected the fire resistant model that was slightly more expensive. His guys did a real high quality job. We are very happy with the end result.
Description of Work: We wanted a Mini-Deck placed on a driveway we just had gated-in. The Mini-Deck would be coming out from the house of which we just had a sliding glass door installed. We requested the Trex material.

Victor called that day, came over and gave me an estimate the next day. Originally the quote he gave me was so high I could not afford to do the job. We talked about some changes in design and materials and we were able to agree on the price. Gregory and Daniel arrived with Victor on Monday and the job was completed by Friday. They were very prompt and respectful, they worked diligently from 8 a.m. until at least 5 p.m. everyday until finished. The work was done in a quiet and pleasant manner, even with our dog barking and scaring them. We had to section off part of the yard so the dog would not escape. Victor also came back and did some touch up work on the windows and some clean up. I would recommend them highly. Victor and crew are motivated, helpful, knowledgeable and competent.
Description of Work: I had an old rusted metal shed. Gregory removed the shed and its contents and Victor hauled it away. Gregory cleared a 18'x15' area where the shed had been. He did lots of digging and leveling off of the land before the job began. They installed a new 17'x14' 18" raised deck. It went from my back yard to the alley. The 17' yard side had stairs along the entire length. Made of trek. He installed 2 windows, wall mounted a window AC and installed a skylight.

Overall the project went very well. The deck could not be designed in the original way, however the pool company was able to cut and conform it to our initial design so we are very happy with the end result. There were a few extra items we believed initially were covered (i.e. trench where the SDG&E had to work in to move meter, extra costs from SDG&E we didn't realize were not included in the contract, and other very minor expenses. Overall though the cost was very reasonable and its not a surprise when these types of expenses can come up in a project (especially one this size). Whenever items did come up that were not in the original contract we found their prices fair and we will hire Victor and his crew again in the future.
Description of Work: This project was in preparation for adding a pool to our back yard. The project included moving the sewer line, moving the gas line, underground/moving electric wires, removing and replacing hot water tank with a tankless water heater, having the San Diego gas move the gas meter, repaint/reroof back shed, paint back of house, build deck on back of house, install two French Doors on back of house, among other work.

We had a deck that was termite ridden and a bit scary to walk on. Victor gave me the lowest bid and did a terrific job. He even went above and beyond by adding more ''green'' board than he previously quoted at no extra cost as well as making larger concrete piers than the previous ones. The job was done to code and finished in 5 days which also included removal and dumping of the old deck. Beautifully! The deck came out great.
Description of Work: Complete deck replacement. Removed other deck and disposed of it. Made larger concrete piers and used green board for a majority of the supports. Made new deck code compliant. Work included deck and stairs as well as all rails.

Victor returned all calls and was there when he said he would be. He even hauled away some of the drywall slabs that I had used for a temporary sidewalk. All in all, a very good experience in dealing with Victor and his crew.
Description of Work: Victor and his crew came out to my house and poured and smoothed concrete for a front yard patio and a sidewalk to my front door. I had previously put in the forms by myself but some of the forms were warped and curved. He re-enforced all the forms (where they needed it) and straightened them out in the process. He was the lowest bidder (out of 3) for the job and impressed me with his concrete knowledge and his courteousness. I would definitely hire Victor again if I needed to.
