It was a long process with the additional issues that were discovered, but Randy and his team did a great job both explaining what needed to be done and executing everything. We now have peace of mind that our windows will not leak and all the other issues have been take care of by professionals who care about doing good work.
Description of Work: We purchased a flipped home where the new windows were not installed correctly and repeatedly leaked. Randy was one of the only companies that were willing to remove and properly reinstall our existing windows. They also uncovered and repaired some additional issues that the flippers had not address. So every window was removed and installed so that there would be no further leaking.

I called to get a quote. All the Lady would say is that its 85 dollars an hour for a tech to come out and a minimum of 2 hours. Which when I did reply is that wait I'm going to pay you for a opportunity at a JOB? So there is no free quote to see how many hours of work needs to be done or scope of work. But that I would agree to pay you 85 dollars for as many hours as you please.

I searched for quite a while on Angie's List and talked to 5 different companies until Angie's List Concierge team found TDAWC. Randy Burger came to my home, listed to what I was looking to do (add sliding french doors to separate my dinning room & living room). He measured everything carefully asked appropriate questions and was extremely knowledgeable and professional. Once I selected the doors, he came back and re-measured be for ordering the product. His staff - Julian who did the installation and Victor who did the painting were absolutely phenomenal in their work and professionalism. I have done many home improvement projects over the years and I have to say that Randy and his team are some of the best I have ever worked with. If you have interior, exterior doors or windows that you want - and want it done right, TDAWC is your place to go! Also the gals in the office are so nice and polite - Gabriel & Gudrun - thanks for all your help!
Description of Work: Installed interior sliding doors & 1 exterior door

Randy first came out in the fall of 2014 and gave us quotes for all our options. We have a lot of windows, so the quotes were pretty elaborate. We I sat on the quotes for a while, then had him come back in the Spring. We decided to go with retrofit windows for most of the windows instead of new construction because of the cost. We also decided to delay the work on the new construction windows. Gabrielle, the lady in the office was very pleasant to deal with. When I had questions, she would get them answered or have Randy call me. Randy came for the final walk through, and Gabrielle emailed me the contract specifiying the windows, direction of opening, size and location. I put about 11,000 down, which was basically the cost of the windows, and they ordered them for me. Milgard delivered the windows to my house about a month later, and the Door and Window Consultants had Jose, waiting at our house to organize the delivery. He was very friendly and explained alot about what was going to happen. The next day, Victor and Carlos showed up to start work. They worked for about a week, joined on various days by other workers, including Jose. They cleaned up every day, and tried to do one area at a time so that we could still have use of the house. They had to remove about 15 decorative fixed windows which turned out to be the most difficult task, apparently because of the amount of adhesive that was originally used. One Window turned out to flawed, so Randy filed a report to Milgard, and that is supposed to be fixed because of their warranty. Victor came back himself for half a day to clean up and make sure everything worked right and looked good.Overall we are very pleased with our experience.
Description of Work: Replaced 47 windows, including fixed decorative windows with Milgard replacement windows.

We installed Marvin-made windows. I compared prices as three different window retailers. In each case they gave me the contact info of three installers. In each case, Randy/TWDC was their top choice. I have a friend who builds high-end homes, and asked him for his favorite installer. Again, it was Randy. I contacted three installers. One gave me a quote over the phone, but never came out. Another turned out not to be bonded. Randy came out initially with the window retailer, and then again for three hours to measure and explain the different methods and processes of window replacement. He was personable, not rushed, and thorough. It's perhaps wrong to think of Randy and his workers as just window installers. They are journeymen carpenters, proud of their work. They are not rushed. There is never the feeling that they have so many hours to do this or that. They just do whatever they need to, and take as long as they need to do the job right. Randy was out with his crew at the start, many times during, and at the end. It's hard to say who was the most demanding critic--the carpenter perfecting his craft, the owner demanding it be done right, or me, the perfectionist owner. Randy was more expensive than the other installers I contacted. But I believe he was better value. He was about 25% more in cost, but he and his workers undoubtedly spent more than twice as long plying their craft. We worked together, and Randy and his crew created a finished product greater than the sum of the parts.

I read the prior review and had no clue what the bad reviewer was talking about. I've had Randy completely replace all windows in 2 houses and a number of door -- he always did a stellar job and completely stood behind his work. On this occasion, Randy was very responsive and gave accurate and reasonable quotes and buildouts.

Randy was initially confused by poor communication from others regarding the scope of the work. I called him to give him clarifications on my expectations regarding the work. I requested him to provide me with a preliminary estimate of the cost for the total project which involved making a wider opening in our wall to accommodate the new doors. He stated that some engineering services would be required that he estimated at about $600. I requested him to add that estimate of engineering costs to his preliminary estimate; but he insisted that all the engineering work needed to be done prior to him being able to provide his estimate. In other words, he wanted me to expend on engineering work even before I could have any preliminary estimate for the overall cost of the project. I have already obtained a proposal with preliminary costs from another reputable contractor who has been in this business for many years without all the caveats that Randy required. In the final analysis, Randy struck me as someone who was not willing to engage with a client who asked pertinent questions about process and responsibility, nor did he seem interested in the project once he understood that he was to provide a competitive proposal that would be compared with another proposal. We agreed mutually that he was not the right contractor for this project.
Description of Work: Randy was requested to come out and provide an estimate for replacing sliding glass panel doors in my house with LaCantina doors. He came over to our place and took measurements for this purpose. He made questionable demands for engineering work to be done even before he would provide a preliminary estimate for the project. See below for details.

Response from THE DOOR & WINDOW CONSULTANTS
As a reputable, qualified, professionally trained, and insured door and window company, we have been in business for many years and we do not make structural changes to a 2 story home without the evaluation of a structural engineer. We have a contractors license for general contracting as well as glazing - however that does not qualify us to estimate structural requirements to expand an opening in a 2-story home. We take pride in our reputation and want the homeowner to be safe in their home and happy with the completed job. We have thousands and thousands of happy, satisfied customers. We are at the top of the industry, as any past customer can vouch. We keep them happy and satisfied, and I, as the owner can sleep every night. We are fully qualified and legal in all areas, and do not do major structural changes without proper verification. Most clients understand and respect this. Unfortunately, we are in a trade that has many unlicensed, unqualified and uninsured, or improperly insured, competition that say they can do the job. Generally they can adjust the amount they charge to beat any competitors price. We are not playing by the same rules, and that would more than likely be the case here. The homeowner would rather opt for saving the $600.00 he might have paid directly to a structural engineer to assure the structure will remain sound. Engineering is required for permitting, and to quote the project properly. It is a cost paid by the homeowner prior to starting the project.. It is not a cost we absorb just to give a quote to a customer who should be aware and accustomed to this process, since his entire home is under the remodeling process. We wish him luck on his project, and agree that we are not the ones for this project. Randall Burger. Owner, The Door and Window Consultants Inc.

Randy Burger monitored every step of the work and he has an excellent team that has been with him for years. Everything progressed smoothly, professionally and on schedule from start to finish. I made several changes to the overall plan once the work started, such as the stair way kick plate. He managed to figure out how to do it and to make it look fantastic.
Description of Work: installed all new crown and base moldings throughout my 3300 sq foot house. Many challenging aspects to this such as installing on my cathedral ceilings with their many conflicting angles and curving sections of walls. Painted all the new moldings and all existing doors, the master bedroom closet and cabinets and laundry room cabinets. Installed and painted a kick plate all along my curving stairs to the 2nd floor. Painted the hand rail along the stair well on the 2nd floor. Installed and painted Anderson French doors in the Master bedroom. This involved removing the existing French doors and reconnecting the new doors to the existing alarm system. Moved lighting fixtures and heating ducts so that sections of the crown molding would be continuous and not segmented. This required patching drywall and retexturing and repainting. Protected all the furniture, wood floors and carpeting while the work was being accomplished. Left my home clean and spotless when they were finished.

Randy's consultation helped me to envision the final look of the doors. He sketched out a rough drawing with exact measurements which helped immensely. These specs were invaluable when it came to selecting and purchasing the doors. I think his prices are a little higher, but it is worth it for his expertise and knowledge. Measurements and advice are so important and could save you money in the long run when done properly.
Description of Work: We had an open loft that we wanted to convert to a bedroom. There were 2 openings that needed to be framed in (including drywalling) for installing the doors. One of the openings is arched and is almost 80" wide. We were told by someone else we would need custom fitted doors made for the opening and because of expense, we postponed the project for a while. A handyman suggested putting in standard doors, but drywalling around the area which was a great idea, so we contacted the Door and Window Consultants, recommended by a local home improvement retailer.
