SolarCity is a national leader in clean energy services. We make clean energy available to homeowners, businesses, schools, non-profits and government organizations at a lower cost than they pay for energy generated by burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas.

Installation went fine. My system stopped after nine days. My complaint is they are not a good service company. They said it would take nine days to get a tech out. He came, opened up the system and declared it needed a new cpu card. Two weeks to get that and then another nine days for the tech to get to my house. The cpu didn't fix the problem so the tech ordered a whole new system. Two weeks for that to come in and another nine days for the scheduling of the tech. My system was down for over a month. I learned that they have 4 techs for the whole San Diego county. If you buy from them, make sure to get a max time for them to provide service .

After a few days I climbed onto the roof a looked at the work and found unsecured edges on some roof patches they had put over test holes they drilled to find the joists in the roof. I sent an email to my salesman, Albert Ly, who has been a perfect professional (highly recommended). They sent someone to repair it and he sent the original crew headed by Zack to redo some grounding from the roof. Everything looks good for now. Patches are secured to the roof, the grounding is up to code. Getting solar panels is a long process but now that is complete I am very happy with the results. Do check the work of the crew even if you don't know exactly what you are looking for and call for correction . It's your house.
Description of Work: Solar City installed 12 solar panels on my roof recently. Beforehand, they upgraded an electrical panel (Smith electric) for the solar stuff. Because it was a follow up there was no charge.

Description of Work: After meeting with a half-dozen firms, we decided to lease a system from Solar City. They really worked with us to place the panels and there was minimal disruption. Casey, our rep, was a true pro who took all the time we needed to make an informed decision. This firm provided A+ service across the board; everyone is friendly, professional and looks to meet our needs as the consumer.

Their service is very great. They were very professional when they came to install the panel before. I want other members to know that they offer a very good product and the people who installed it were very consistent and approachable. I think their price is competitive.
Description of Work: I used the services of Solar City. They installed the solar panel and had them do some minor services for us. I called them a month ago for some issue.

I couldn't be more pleased. They did an excellent job. The technician who estimated how many panels we needed did such a good job that I pay a very small amount for gas, saving me around $3,000 a year.
Description of Work: I lease solar panels from them and they installed them as well.

Signed up through Home Depot for solar panels, they came out, got the sales pitch, signed up....another person came out, measured, and that was the end of it. Waited two months and no design, no nothing, sales rep advised he had nothing new. I went to Home Depot and discussed with the sales reps there, advised they are no longer doing tile roofs, we have a tile roof. I went home emailed salesperson and cancelled the contract, NEVER use this company, there is something very unprofessional about them that I do not trust. Beware of the financial offerings with this company. You may get into something you will regret.I can only bad mouth them, I have nothing good to say. They gave me the runaround for 2 months. It turns out their stalling was in my favor, I found a wonderful solar company that I will review in the future.

Getting estimates for purchase of an approx. 3kW DC solar pv system for our house. Saw their booth in Home Depot and let them come out for an estimate. I thought it started on the wrong foot when their email asked and then suggested that my wife should be at the meeting too... This could be a legitimate desire to have us both have all the information, but seemed to me a little like some sort of time-share sales technique or a desire to have us both be able to sign something committing us to something at that meeting. Bad estimates, or estimates from companies I'm not comfortable with, are being filtered out by me (who has done his solar homework), before ever reaching my wife and wasting her time. I had a weird vibe from the email, but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and still have the meeting, but with just me. So, as far as the meeting, two salesmen showed up, one of whom was some sort of regional manager or something. When we went outside to look at the electrical panel, he said that they'd definitely need to replace it, despite the fact that I said that the other reputable companies looking at similar sized systems said that it would be good, but not necessary, to replace it. When I asked how much it would cost for the panel upgrade: and quot;freeand quot;. C'mon, it's at least $1500 and they're just incorporating it into the price and I can no longer compare apples to apples. This was probably the first point in the meeting that I knew my time was definitely being wasted. So we go back inside and now we're talking about the system. They didn't seem to be very willing to specify all the equipment (panels or inverter(s)). They mentioned some chinese brand panel, and I mentioned the brands I had been considering, and they suggested an upgrade to Yingli, though the quote that they gave me didn't include this or specify prices for upgrades, etc... So then after eyeballing outside and then using their software what things could cause shade (and getting much more shade than the other estimates had from their actual on-roof testing), they produce an estimate (forgetting to add in the panel upgrade). The price for the same size system, but with totally unknown equipment was $500-$1000 more than the estimates from reputable companies and quality panels and inverters. The manager guy turned to the other salesman and said and quot;wow, that's a great priceand quot;, or something like that. Seriously? I asked if that included the panel upgrade. It didn't (and even if it did, I wasn't doing business with them, since I didn't view them as reputable), and so the next price was even worse (and still and quot;wow, that's a great priceand quot;). Maybe they are decent for leases (their main business), but for a purchase, I want to know what I'm getting, and I couldn't seem to get that. Instead, I got some unprofessional sales pitch.

Their pricing was very, very competive. They are great in working with the customer to find an affordable energy system. The only thing is they take a little bit longer to install the system and for the entire process. It actually only took two days to install the system but the whole process with the inspection requirements and the home inspection, took about two months. The system works great. They were good about explaining things as well. I would rate them overall a B.
Description of Work: I used Solar City. They just finished installing a new solar energy system two months ago.

Solar City declined to give us a quote due to our roof shingle material. Apparently, there had been a class action lawsuit a few years back against the shingle manufacturer that was settled in favor of the manufacturer. But Solar City was afraid of liability issues, thus did not wish to install on our roof unless we changed our roof material. We found two other solar integrators who were more than happy to install on our roof, got quotes from them, and have since signed a contract with one of them. Both of these integrators have told us that our roofing material is an easy install - no problem. Solar City didn't even come out to look at it. We suspect that Solar City wasn't interested in our business because we weren't interested in their leasing program?
Description of Work: We requested a quote from Solar City to purchase a photovoltaic solar array for our home.
