SD Garage Doors

When I originally called the provider, I asked for their price to replace two wheel bearings and the chain on my gate. They said they could not provide a price without their technician coming out and evaluating what needed to be done. They also said there was a $45.00 service call fee that would be applied to the purchase. The technician was to arrive between 3 - 5 PM and he did not show up until 5:12. He did call 30 minutes before and told me he was on his way. After arriving, he said I needed two wheel bearing replaced along with the chain. I asked him for the estimate and he said the wheel bearing would be $275 a piece and the chain would be $378. Having price the parts on the internet, I knew the wheel bearings were $35 to $90 depending on the weight of the gate. Since I have a residential gate, the lower end would be appropriate. That meant the labor on removing one bolt from the gate and removing the old bearing, placing the new bearing in and replacing the bolt would be $225 per wheel bearing. I told him that was ridiculous. He telephoned his manager, and offered to do it for $200 per wheel bearing. I said no. After trying to sell me on how complicated it was to install the bearings, he said since I am out here already, I'll do it for $150 per bearing. In twenty minutes he dropped $250 on his price to replace the two wheel bearings. I said no, I had lost all confidence in their integrity. The next day, I called A Garage Door & Gate Store, in Lakeside and they priced out the same work as above: Two heavy duty wheel bearings $140.00 21 ft of #41 chain $136.50 Service call $ 98.00 One hour labor $108.00 Total $482.00 As a retiree, I believe SoCal Garage Doors, saw I was a senior citizen and thought they could gouge me on the price. If I would have used them, I would have paid twice the price I am paying to have the work done, and I know the parts I am getting are new, quality parts that will last a long time.
