+ -1 moreIt rained on the Monday our job was supposed to begin. Rick postponed the job to the next day and coordinated with the insulation crew to be sure they would be available. Work started on Tuesday morning and the crew had all the old roofing material off at the end of the day and the holes cut for the insulators the next morning. Rick showed me photos of ~ 50 feet of wood with old termite damage which they replaced. Wed. morning the insulators came in and did their job while Rick's crew worked on other areas of the roof. Everything was completed by the end of the second day. The whole job went smoothly despite the rain delay and the crew arrived early, worked hard, behaved professionally and cleaned up completely at the end of each day. They fully explained anything that differed from the original estimate. We had had this company come in to do a small job three years ago which was part of the reason we hired them again. We are very pleased with their work, their professional attitude, and the way they dealt with unexpected obstacles along the way. We have worked with them twice and would be happy to hire them again. Highly recommended!.
Description of Work: RC Roofing tore off our old roof down to the wood sheathing; coordinated the installation of insulation with a second company; removed old Whirly Bird vents and replaced with new new ones painted to match the shingles; and installed new shingles and flashing to our duplex.

+ -1 moreRick took me on the roof and pointed out areas of overexposure and incorrect flashing, the 2 problems that caused my leaks. He gave me an estimate for repairs and explained that we might find wood damage after removing the old tarpaper. He also gave me a fixed price for any wood work that might be needed. Once the old paper was removed his forman, Edgar showed me each of the wood damaged areas and repaired them, including painting where necessary (I provided the paint as agreed). After completion we inspected the roof and he used a bucket of water to show me how the new flashing would work around the skylights. Rick and his team arrived each day right on time. His entire crew was efficient and polite, I never saw a roofer who wasn't busy at work. The job was completed on time and exactly on budget. No surprises. RIck was readily available throughout the job. He stopped by several times to check on progress and answered his cell phone promptly whenever I called. I will use them again for any future roofing needs.
Description of Work: Lift and lay on one side of house: replaced tarpaper, repaired wood damage, installed correct flashing around skylights, installed o'hagen roof vents. Added an extra row of tiles to ensure proper overlap.

+ -1 moreRick showed up on time, confirmed his assessment of the problem, and got his crew to work immediately. They removed the concrete tile, made all the repairs to the wood and roofing paper underneath and reset the tile in a more efficient way to prevent future leaks from developing. Then they water tested the repair to be sure it was in fact done right. Rick calmly took care of a problem that threatened to mess up our move and home sale. I cannot recommend him stongly enough.
Description of Work: Approximately two weeks before our house sale was due to close, we developed a roof leak that caused moderate damage to the ceiling in the living room. We called a contractor to repair the interior damage and Rc Roofing to repair the roof. Rick was extremely accommodating even though he was very busy (the rain that caused our leak had caused others that he was dealing with).

My husband has an architectural background, so he had put roof on commercial buildings so he knew a lot about what the guys where doing and that was one thing he really liked about him. He just though he could talked to him about the job and did everything he asked him to do.

Description of Work: Inspection prior to work showed several broken tiles that needed replacement, and recommended the replacement of several vents. Proposal to do this work was accepted at proposed cost of $1450. Work was performed and additional work was suggested in a cricket for an additional $1400. I accepted the additional work, but do not know why the additional work was not suggested in the original proposal. I am not able to determine whether it was really needed.

+ -1 moreExcellent! Rick was very thorough and answered all our questions. We hadn't been satisfied with any of the previous roofing done on the flat roof patio and Rick suggested this pvc membrane instead of the torch down type that had been used previously. The workmen were there early and ready to go right at 8 a.m. Old roof was pretty much off by early afternoon and new shingles were already going up. They painted sheets of plywood with Kilz for repair on the patio roof. Rick came around about midday to see how things were going and realized he needed an adhesive for the patio roof instead of nailing it down. He ordered it shipped overnight so it would be ready for the next day. They cleaned up extremely well, which we appreciated, having a small dog that could have stepped on nails. The next day they pretty much finished the shingles and were working on a structural issue where the sloped house roof connected with the flat patio roof and ended up boxing it in with wood and then covering with the pvc membrane. The third day they finished up odds and ends and finished cleaning everything up. We are very pleased with the work and everything involved!
Description of Work: Tore off old roof, repaired bad wood and reroofed house with composition shingles and an attached flat roofed patio with pvc membrane.

They never disturbed us (more than could be expected, considering they were completely replacing our roof.) Rick communicated with us throughout the job, and showed concern for saving us unnecessary expense. Now, when the rain falls, we just think how nice it sounds hitting our beautiful new roof.

Description of Work: Roof Leak. Rotten plywood sheeting on one area of the roof. Rainwater leaked into one bedroom. RC not only repaired the damage but identified faulty installation of flashing that led to the leak. Also replaced cracked roof tiles that were hard to find and reflashed all pipes sticking through the roof.

+ -1 moreRick Clark, owner of RC roofing, was one of three roofing companies (all rated well in Angie's List) who looked at and quoted the job. We selected RC based on their Angie's List reviews and our own talking to a few references to whom we talked on the phone. All were glowing in the reports. Ricks price was also very competitive with the other bidders. RC needed to coordinate with the solar company - the plan was for the solar company to install risers for their panel trays - we would be installing 39 panels, each about 3.5 x 6 feet. Then RC would come in and do the refoofing, including sealing around the risers. And then the solar company would come back and continue. That is exactly how it worked. Within a few days of the risers being installed, RC started the job and completed it in 3 - 4 days. The crew was very professional, very quite and business like but also friendly and pleasant. The work was done very cleanly. We inspected it visually ourselves and then asked Rick to come and inspect it with us to be sure he saw no potential problems. Everything appears great. The solar company has since completed their installation. The coordination worked out just as planned.
Description of Work: We were planning to install solar electric on our flat roofed house, but the roof was 16 years old and the solar company needed assurance that it would not create roof problems installing the solar system. The job was to re-roof the house over the footprint of the solar electric array - about 40 % of the entire roof surface. High quality roofing material was applied over the existing roof.

+ -1 moreI contacted 5 firms and compared estimates based upon the job specifications described above because when I simply asked for estimates, I received such a variety of descriptions of the work that would be performed that I needed to ask for a responses that would allow me to "compare apples to apples". The quoted cost estimates still varied widely and after additional research, I selected RC Roofing. Their cost estimate was the middle one of 5. Rick Clark and his crew were responsive ,professional, easy to work with and seemed to be intent on making certain that I was satisfied. His crew worked efficiently and I am happy with the work results. As lomg as I provided the paint, Rick and his crew responded to my requests that they paint small portions of trim or fascia that were accessible only while the tiles were removed. This was a welcome accommodation for my situation. We have had only light rain so far this year and there have been no leaks.
Description of Work: Repair roof in the approximately 800 sq feet of area in the attached diagram of roof as follows: 1. Remove existing roof tile and pre pair for reroof using the existing roof tiles. 2. Examine wood sheathing and roof structure for damage and advise owner. (Any wood work that is needed will be repaired with an additional charge of $3.50 per foot for 1” x 6” or 1” x 8” sheathing board, $8.50 per foot for 2” x 6” or 2” x 8” fascia board, and $55.00 per sheet for 1⁄2 inch CDX plywood. Any wood work not outlined will be replaced time and material @ $65.00 per hour. 3. Install 2 layers of UDL SBS felt tile underlaynment. 4. Install 2” x 4” painted drip edge metal and bird stop or eve riser to the eves of roof.( ) 5. Install new 24” 26 gauge valley metal to all valley area. 6. Install any necessary tile pan metal and or roof to wall metal needed with 26 gauge metal. 7. Re install the existing hip and ridge nailer boards to all hip and ridge areas. 8. Install primary and secondary flashing, paint to blend with new roof. 9. Raise skylight curbs 2-3 inches to allow for proper flashing. (NO FINISH INSIDE IS INCLUDED) 11. Install skylight flashing and counter flashing if needed sealed with a polyurethane sealant, and paint to blend with new roof. 12. Re install the existing roof tiles with proper exposure per manufactures recommendations, adding any tile needed and replacing any broken tile. 13. Install approved weather block to all hip and ridge areas. 14. Clean up and haul away of all debris. 15. All workmanship has a 10 year warranty.

+ 0 moreWe were happy with how everything went. RC Roofing presented the lowest bid of all three that we got. Rick and his crew had two small mixups (slightly different materials for the flat roof than specified in the bid and 2" instead of 4" overhang for some of the roof tiles). I'm not sure we would have ever noticed either, or that they really mattered, but he brought them to our attention and gave us discounts for both. Work was performed as scheduled, on time and on budget.
Description of Work: Reroofed the entire house and garage. The front 1/3 of the roof is Spanish-style tile, and the back is a flat roof. Also installed a tube skylight with integrated electric light and ventilation fan.

I appreciated that he took the time to take pictures of the roof on his phone to explain the problem areas. He spent time talking through a few options. RC roofing did a good job of cleaning up any debris and coming at a convenient time for me.
Description of Work: I had a leak in my roof. I hired RC Roofing to replace the tile liner for a section of my roof (46' by 14'). They also reflashed the skylight and other pipes on the roof.

+ -1 more5.5 days start to finish, tear off and covering with underlament and flashing took 2 days including some very small amount of wood replacement, after which staging the roof took a full day, and installation took 2.5 days. I went up on the roof and took pictures and inspected every single day even after it was complete, no I didn't crack any lightweight tiles :). I really can't say enough good about Rick, this really is the smoothest interaction with any contractor I have had.
Description of Work: I have an approx 2600 sq foot house in the dictionary hills area of spring valley. I had 3 bids for roofing, and Ricks was the only bid that gave me confidence even though it wasn't the lowest, the house was originally roofed with composite shingles and we re roofed with lightweight tile. This had a dramatic effect on the curb appeal of the house, It cost roughly twice as much as the cheapest roofing option which was going over the existing composite with another layer of composite and let me tell you it looks great, its well worth it. The roof on my house is very visible to the ground due to it being situated on a hill and the visual effect of the new roof cannot be overstated. Also from my own research I highly recommend next generation under-lament it was a 500 dollar upgrade.

No more leak, and the roof is now in good condition. The workman were professional and did a good job, and we didn't have to put on a new roof.

I was going to wait on this review until a significant rainfall, but in Southern California, that might not happen until next March. I wanted to let my neighbors know that RC Roofing was fair priced, didn't try to repair more than needed and not only the tiny sections that leaked; but left open the opportunity to repair other sections of my roof if needed. I was told by my husband the crew was very professional, got right to work, and didn't rush through the job. They showed up a little late only because there was confusion about the address. However, Rick had called me to tell me what was going on. He didn't leave me wondering where they were.
Description of Work: One whole section of my 3 level roof had to be repaired due to leaks from the winter rains. RC Roofing removed all the tiles of that section, laid new paper (better paper) and re-tiled the roof. They gave me the quote with potential problems that could arise after the tiles have been removed and they could see the extent of the damage. Rick told me how much it would cost if they needed new wood, new tiles, etc. I was well forewarned. On the day of the repair, my husband was here to answer any question for Rick's crew. There were no problems and no questions, They did their job efficiently and cleaned up after themselves.

+ -1 moreExcellent job overall - from Rick (owner) giving us the estimate, to his own full-time crew - who were on time every day of the 3-day job, professional, and did a great job cleaning up debris and loose nails, etc at the end of every day - using a magnet tool on the roof and in our yard and planter boxes under the roofline of the house. The new roof looks great and should last us a very long time. Rick's pricing was very fair and he has the homeowner/customer's interests at heart. I'd 120% recommend Rc Roofing to others in San Diego who may need to replace and/or repair their house roof!!
Description of Work: Remove and replace original 25 yr old shingle roof, and repair any dry rot wood, if any found. Also, replace two original whirlybird vents with new units, and add rolled insulation and new plywood sheets over living room part of house via access through roof (vs. cutting ceiling drywall inside of house). And, remove three existing roof vents no longer in use.
