Point Loma Electric & Plumbing

Had a room with no power. I friend and I spent 3 hours on Sunday trying to locate and fix the problem, with no luck (he and I are both pretty good repairing things around the house). Changed outlets and switches in the room to no avail. Called Point Loma Electric, and they had two technicians at the house within two hours of my call. The techs checked every switch and outlet and located the problem in another room that we had not checked, because everything in that room worked. Problem fixed, I'm happy.

They suck, I will never use them again. They've come to my home three times. The first time, they came to my home, maybe about the first part of July or June. They charged me $2000 something, it was to change one exhaust fan, add an exhaust fan and install a fan in my bedroom. When they came to install the exhaust fan, they didn't have the exhaust fans on their truck, they had to go pick them up. I was at Lowe's and I realize, "Those look like the same exhaust fans in my house." They were $33.51 each and they charged me $2000 something. Point Loma Electric also owns Bath Planet. So I talked to the Messrs. I went down there and I gave her pictures and I said, "I can't believe you guys charged me..." She was like, "Oh no, we would have never put those kind of fans in there." She did some research. She was to call me back. She said, "I'm embarrassed, we did do those fans. Usually we carry $100 fans on our truck." They scheduled an appointment to come and put the fans that should have been installed in my home. So they came to my home, they installed Panasonic fans, but they didn't change the ducts. They also were trying to sell me this thing called Quite Cool. It's an attic fan that sucks all the hot air out of your house. They wanted to charge me between $2400 and $3700. So I did some research and Quite Cool referred me this roofer. The roofer was between $700 to almost $1000 cheaper. The roofer put the Quite Cool in, but while he was up there, he says, "Whoever did your exhaust system, left the old exhaust fan in your attic and they did not change your ducts." So once again I'm contacting them. They came out to my house last week, they changed out the ducts because these are 4 inch Panasonic fans and the old exhaust fans were 3 inch ducts and even on HandymanHowTo.com it says, "You need to change out the ducts because you're not getting 79% of the air flow to the ducts." So I call them up. Taylor comes to my house to change out the ducts. He said one was done but the other wasn't. So I go up there to check to make sure that they're doing the right job. I'm up there and I don't realize that you're not supposed to step on your drywall. I fall through my bathroom ceiling. This is last Tuesday. I twist one leg, one leg goes through, I yell for my husband Jeff, he comes and runs upstairs and tells me to just let go and he catches me. But they still left the exhaust fan here at my house. The old exhaust fan that they were supposed to change out originally, they still didn't take out the stuffs. I will never ever use Point Loma Electric for anything, nothing. They're expensive, you don't get what you pay for. You've got to follow up on them. If I never would have had a roofer guy go up in the attic, I would have never known, never. They respond quickly.

Aside from the girl answering the phone sounding a little inexperienced (the work was at a rental property and I think the logistics of the who thing confused her) the experience was great. They were able to send a crew of two as soon was we could make arrangements to be at the location. They checked every single outlet, the connection to all appliances and the electrical box. The problem was diagnosed (a burnt out circuit breaker and some old wiring) and I was informed about the aluminum wiring throughout the home which can create some issues and the absence of GFIs in the bathrooms. For the circuit box the technician (Ramon - he was excellent) offered me three options but advised me that rebuilding the box was more cost-effective and that a new box was more than was needed. Since he was already here we arranged to have him add the GFIs to the locations where they were needed. They were professional, knowledgeable, efficient with their time, neat & tidy, and the final price was very reasonable. They also provided reasonable guarantees on their work. We are very satisfied with the work and the whole interaction from start to finish.

All correspondences with the company has been excellent. The office has been pleasant and helpful every time we've had to call them. They probably need to work on their courtesy calls for letting you know they are indeed coming out when they said they would, but I called prior just to make sure as one of the days I took a whole day off work when they were going to upgrade the panel and switch the old lines to the new ones. I would like to note that it was after hours that I called them and they still got back that night to confirm they'd be coming early the next day. All of the technicians were professional and courteous, including the lead, which was Charlie. He's come out each time the work was done and he has been very informative and thorough when answering questions, giving advice, and going over all the work that has or was going to be done. They've always been punctual and never missed an appointment and when new work was requested while they were here, it's always been slotted and the work has been done when they've said it was going to be. They even came on a Saturday to accommodate my work schedule. In the future we'll be landscaping our entire yard, including more electrical work and lighting and we'll definitely be using them again!

You were frustrated that would not come back to fix it or come back and was upset they charged 269$ pricey for 15 minutes of work.

This was my second experience with Point Loma Electric. Another job well done! First Jim, the Owner, came out, and did a home safety inspection. He gave me a thorough written report, and made some recommendations. Then, we scheduled some of the upgrades. Two installers came out and replaced all my outlets and switches, and did the upgrades to my lighting. GFI outlets were added in several places. Things went very well, except the installers overlooked one of the fixtures in my kitchen, so that had to be re-scheduled. But it worked out ok, since on the next trip, they also upgraded the dimmer switch. I recommend this company, and I would definitely use them again.

Point Loma Electric called to confirm my appointment the day before and then again to let me know the technician was on his way. Taylor and his assistant arrived as scheduled and quickly and professionally installed the new electrical outlet to accommodate my cordless vacuum. They left the work areas clean. Taylor suggested two other projects we may want to complete later, researched them and emailed me the proposals. I appreciated the excellent service.

We're very happy with their work. They were able to come the next day after we called and completed all of the work in one day. All of the workers were really nice and friendly. They didn't leave any mess. They answered all of our questions, and gave us information for a future project.

They did an alright job. The price was average.

I have an old home, and the lighting in one of my bathrooms was in serious need of upgrading. I had an old fluorescent light fixture, which did not provide good lighting, and was not in a very accessible location when it was time to change the bulbs. I called Point Loma Electric. They sent someone out within a couple of days. He arrived on time, and explained everything he was going to do. The price was reasonable, and I am thrilled with my new lighting. I would definitely use this company again.

The receptionist was pleasant and scheduling was relatively easy, other than the day prior to the appointment they called to rescheduled since their electricians were busy on other jobs. The appointment was specifically to evaluate the condition of an electrical panel. I had informed the person making the appointment of the name and type of panel to be inspected and that I just needed to know it's present condition, and if any corrections were needed. The electricians who were sent to evaluated the panel, advised that there was literature regarding known problems with the particular type of panel. Although they did state that other than one correction, they didn't see anything that would indicate any current problems. I asked if they would make the correction and install a part they said was needed and missing. They called their main office for permission but because of the type of panel, it was denied. Not sure why they didn't know this from the beginning. Called a different electrical company who was very familiar with the panel and in short, the part the Point Loma electricians said was missing and needed was not missing.

We had hired Point Loma a few years ago to update our electrical panel. They are always punctual, provide upfront pricing, and do professional work. We are very pleased with how everything turned out. They even corrected something that they noticed was done incorrectly. Point Loma is our go-to for electrical for our older home.

He offered to have the office set up an appointment with a design consultant and they called us the next day to make arrangements. The gal who came 2 days later gave us a very professional presentation of the Bath Planet products in our home and listened to our preferences and showed us some beautiful products and wall samples. We didn't know anything about acrylic bath products before this and once we learned how durable and easy to clean they were we were sold. First they removed our old tub and time around it, then they installed new "green board" whatever that is and then the new acrylic walls and new tub and fixtures. Afterwards they cleaned up perfectly. We are thrilled with our new bathroom and are planning to do our master bath next year. We'd hire Bath Planet/Point Loma Electric / Bath Planet again in minute and would highly recommend them to anyone.

They arrived on time. I explained what I wanted. They gave me a quote and started the work. Technicians were very knowledgable and efficient. The job was completed in short time and was completely satisfied with the finished product.

I had purchased a ceiling fan at Lowe's and paid for installation. I asked specifically if it would be a licensed electrician as we have an old house, over 100 years old. When he came he was not a lic. electrician and was not able to install the fan. I looked on Angie's List and found Point Loma electric which I chose because the specialize in old houses and had good review. The owner Jim came himself, along with his assistant (I think his name was Josh.) The got right to work and did a fantastic job. It was a little challenging because of the old light fixture and wiring, but Jim know all about it. they were both very friendly, and professional and Jim was very knowledgeable. A very positive experience. I would not only call them again if needed, but would highly recommend them.

Great Experience - PL Electric was able to get to a difficult to reach hard wired smoke alarm and take of it for me. Service was excellent, and scheduling and working with office a great experience.

Ramon and his team were great! Ramon was very professional and helpful walking me through the estimate, explaining the house's electrical condition and keeping me updated as the work progressed... as well as answering my numerous questions along the way. The house is midcentury built with only some electrical upgrades along the way. The team was professional, did quality work and cleaned up as they went along. Overall very satisfied and would highly recommend!

They were outstanding and did a great job. They specialize in older houses; they had a new technique come out with a mixture of aluminum wiring and copper wiring and they saved us a lot of money. They put a new device on it to prevent it from catching on fire as well. It wouldn't cost as much to fix it and they were very good. They put out door lights and outdoor lanterns up, too. They did it all. They spent a couple of days here and it was all done.

2 man team arrived within time window in van. Told them what I wanted - but team leader, Jon, had much better idea. Read that as much simpler and cheaper than my plan. They made a parts run then finished job in just over 2 hours. Tidy professional looking work. Both neat and personable. Not cheap but no regrets.
