I did not properly understand the terms of the coupon. If I had, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. Angie's list should find a way for greater clarity in these matters. I felt a little cheated by the whole experience
Description of Work: 1. A hanging light fixture was replaced. 2. Light fixtures on the top of two posts on either side of the driveway were attached. It was determined that electrical access was not working so the fixtures were just put in place.

Dear Member, I am very sorry to see this review of our services as we strive for 100% customer satisfaction. Our records reflect, and I confirmed with the electrician who was at your home that the following work was done: Hung a chandelier in your entryway which was over 10' high He did some diagnostic/ troubleshooting in your kitchen to determine why a receptacle was not working and found that you had a bad GFI. You declined repair. Then he did more diagnostic for your outdoor pillar lights to determine why they were not working. He found that there was no power coming to them from the electrical lines buried in the ground. You declined additional troubleshooting to determine where the problem is located in the wires under ground. At your request the electrician removed the old fixtures on the pillars and replaced them with new ones since they had a nicer appearance than the old ones. The amount that you paid to hang the chandelier, for diagnostic work in both your kitchen and for your outdoor lights and to remove 2 old fixtures and install 2 new ones after the $50 Angies List big deal discount was $261. Our regular flat rate book prices for the all of the work that was done in your home was $656.30. The "Big Deal" offer clearly stated in bold type that diagnostic and repair work were not included in the $49 big deal. We regret if there was any misunderstanding. Our electrician confirmed that he did discuss this with you in advance of doing any work in your home and he did obtain your approval before doing anything as is our policy. Our company and Angies list will gladly refund any money paid for big deals if the customer does not feel it is a value for them, no questions asked. Whenever a customer is not completely satisfied with our service I ask 3 questions: What happened? What can we do to make it right with you? How can we avoid this in the future? We take our satisfaction guarantee seriously and will do what is necessary to make this right with you. We do feel that considerable value was delivered for the price you were charged and regret if you believed that $49 included all of the work that you desired. I have left you a message and will continue to try and reach you to discuss this with you. Found another provider by asking another kind of contractor. He does not advertise. I am not going to add him to this list because somehow it seems those electricians on the list anywhere near me get an attitude of nonresponse.
Description of Work: Angies List Special Deal--Whole House Circuit Breakers and Surge Protector. E-mailed asking about this and easy other residential work. Never heard back. What's with electricians ignoring e-mail customer inquiries? Is it too much to respond that they are booked up, out of your service area, lost the man who did that stuff, any kind of polite lie, not just leaving consumers dangling waiting for a response.

You claim to have sent an email and never received a response and that is the reason for leaving this negative review, however in searching our email in box as well as the spam folder I see no email inquiry with the name listed on this review. We do service the San Marcos area and are eager for every opportunity to serve all customers. Especially from Angie's list. We work very hard to earn business from our customers and take our 100% satisfaction guarantee very seriously. As we have no record of ever receiving any correspondence from you and have not had any contact with you seems rather unfair that there is now a review with such a low rating on our profile. While email is a fairly reliable means of communication, it is not always the ideal. I am willing to bet if you check your "drafts" folder or "outbox" you may find your correspondence there. I spoke with Angies List representatives as well and they confirmed that there is no record of you initiating contact with us via Angies List either. The company picked up right away and had someone available the next business day. Receptionist both days was professional and tech was able to contact me on my cell at the time of the appointment. Kevin the tech showed up on time (window for appointment was 9-11). He was very professional, he reviewed the issue and answered all of our questions thoroughly. We were able to identify that the problem was not the house but the router supplied by the cable company.
Description of Work: Tenant at my rental property reported that the cable guy had found the electrical outlets were not grounded and electricity was also flowing through the coax cable and frying the cable box (twice).

The tehnician was here for several days and was a pleasure to have in the house. He was very professional in everything he did but also had a great sense of humor. He gave us tips on energy conservation and taught us more about using electricity in our home than I thought possible. We've rarely had such a good overall experience with a technician of any kind.
Description of Work: The technician that came to our home changed out 42 switches and plugs in the older home that we'd just moved into, installed four new light fixtures, installed seven GFI plugs, added new plugs in the house, etc.

Kevin was the tech who came to my home. I was very pleased with his work. Everything worked well. He was very professional and gave a lot of helpful information. He also gave me an estimate on some work that I may have done in the future.

The work took one full day and about 90 minutes of second day. Crew was efficient, very conscious of possible "mess" on carpets and hardwood floors. They were courteous and friendly and responsive to questions as they progressed. Cloth "booties" were slipped on when coming into the home and removed as they left. Stucco patching was neat and not obtrusive at all. On the second day, Don B. came to walk through the house to assure all work had been completed. He was friendly and answered all my questions. I would call this company without hesitation when I need work on my home.
Description of Work: Installed new, larger fuse panel, increasing from 100 to 200 amps, and adding new outlet in kitchen.Also repaired ceiling fan with light switch that no longer would turn light on.Patched stucco on outside of home where opening for fuse panel had to be enlarged and where new conduit and lines had to be run into the house.

Both techs (Joshua and Mario A) were really helpful, knew their stuff, got the job done, explained everything to me clearly, cleaned everything up, and got rid of the old materials. The fan installation was a little complicated, since it involved coordinating the remote control with two fans. (I hadn't even planned to use the remote, but Mario showed me how this particular model couldn't be reversed without the remote control, so he worked it all out.) So I would say that the work itself and both techs (Joshua and Mario) rate an A. My B rating derives from a misunderstanding about price. In his diagnosis, Joshua had quoted one price for the fan installation and then when I called for the installation appointment, the office quoted me a price that was 150% higher. Joshua interceded for me and I paid the originally agreed upon price, but it seemed a bit of a hassle. My B rating on punctuality also derives from a misunderstanding about the time of the original visit; I had understood a two-hour window and when I called after two hours, I was told it was a three-hour window. On the other hand, both visits involved more time than I would have anticipated and the techs were really conscientious about doing a great job and not rushing it, so I'm glad the fee is by the job and not the hour. I would use them again, but I would be clear about times and prices.
Description of Work: (This rating involves two related visits, but the format won't allow me to enter two dates.)On 6/15/12 Joshua changed an outlet/ plug that had been giving us trouble, and then he diagnosed a problem with two ceiling fans. (The problem was with the light kits.) Since I couldn't find a light kit that fit the older fans, I decided to get new fans. After I had ordered the new fans and they had arrived (the original two plus one in another room), I called and on 6/26/12 Mario came to install the fans.

I am very pleased to hear that you were satisfied with our technicians and the work they performed in your home. However, I do apologize for the hassle you experienced regarding the quoted price and timing of the electricians arrival. I would have been bothered by those issues as well. We are growing rapidly and have been refining our systems and procedures and sometimes we have growing pains which may cause hiccups that affect our customers. We just recently adjusted our arrival window from 2 hours to 3 so I apologize for that miscommunication. We try not to quote any prices over the phone because our office staff are not electricians and cannot assess individual situations to quote accurate prices. We don't charge by the hour and have only broad price guidelines available to us in the office. In your case $64 difference you were quoted on the phone was based on a ceiling fan which required assembly out of the box and the price you were quoted in the field was for an already assembled fan. I don't think we were aware that you had already been given an estimate by the tech before you purchased your fans. Of course the electricians field estimate is the one we would honor (as we did in your situation). Again I apologize for any inconvenience and we will re-evaluate the way we do things to try to avoid this type of situation in the future. Thank you for bringing these issues to my attention so that we can try to avoid them re-occurring. No company is perfect but we do strive to learn from every situation and improve our service. Thank you for taking to time to post a review of our service. As per our conversation yesterday, if you were not 100% satisfied then we did not do our job properly. To us anything less than an A rating meant that we did not measure up as we'd like. Your issue was that the new light fixture purchased by you and installed by us partially made plugging into an outlet awkward due to the design of the fixture. The globes were larger and took up more space than your original fixture, partially obstructing an outlet. Our electrician should have pointed that out during the installation and suggested alternative solutions while he was there. This is not satisfactory to us either. As I mentioned on the phone, we will gladly send an electrician back out to replace the fixture with another one that fits the space better at your convenience and of course at no charge. We hope that will resolve your issue to your 100% satisfaction. Please do take us up on this offer. Arrived on time. Finished on time and at quoted price, even though they encountered unexpected problems in our 60 year old house.

Overall, our experience with Point Loma Electric was outstanding. We were leaving out of town when we first contacted Jim Dent for an estimate for the family house. We were still living in Texas when we found Point Loma Electric online and made contact with them. We were coming out for a family visit and make arrangements for Jim Dent to come get a quick look at the house. He looked things over and gave us a ballpark estimate. Then a few months later, as we were getting ready to start a kitchen and bath remodel, as well as rewiring the house, we made another visit to the house. We met with Jim Dent again. This time he spent a lot more time with us and looked the house over in detail so that he could provide us a more accurate estimate. As it turns out the initial ballpark estimate he gave us was almost the same as the detailed estimate. We started this project while we were still in Texas. We made arrangements with Point Loma Electric to get the house key from my dad. The majority of the work was completed within a month, prior to our arrival at the house. Jim's crew did an outstanding job of keeping the mess to a minimum. They paid particular attention to the neatness of the work area which we truly appreciated. We communicated with Jim Dent through emails and phone calls very effectively. Jim always kept us up to date and didn't hesitate to contact us if there were any problems or questions. We worked with the remodeling contractor to use Point Loma Electric for the kitchen and bath remodel. Although this is not something Point Loma Electric usually does, we are grateful that they did. Since they were rewiring the rest of the house, we wanted consistency with the electrical work. In addition, when Jim Dent made his observations, he saw that our house had conduit. Neither of us wanted a different electrician to come cut the conduit during the remodel. Overall the remodeling contractor and Point Loma Electric worked well together. Point Loma Electric also installed smoke alarms and ethernet outlets at my request. They also had one of our lights rewired so that we could keep it. Our overall experience with Point Loma Electric, and Jim Dent, was outstanding. They were truly professional in their work and very easy to work with. I would not hesitate to use them again in the future.
Description of Work: We had 95% of the 1936 house rewired. This included all the electrical outlets, lights and removing two sub panels. In addition, we were having a kitchen and bathroom remodeled at the same time as the rewiring. We worked with the contractor for the remodel to use Point Loma Electric for the electrical work in the remodeled area as well. There was one room not rewired yet, because we need to remove the paneling and plywood first, to make it accessible to the electricians. This was a room that was added on in the 60's.

James did an outstanding job and we are very pleased with his work and professionalism. He suggested several ways for the work to be accomplished and is an extremely knowledgeable electrician. He was always on time, neat, cheerful and professional in every way. He patched all the holes that needed to be made in order to accomplish the work and thoroughly cleaned up everything when he was done each day. He is by far the best in price and workmanship of any electrician I have ever hired and I would not hesitate to hire him again for any and all electrical work and I highly recommend him and his company Point Loma Electric.
Description of Work: James Dent the owner of Point Loma Electric completed an extensive and very difficult job of adding four new circuit breakers to an upstairs studio which required running wires through walls and an attic and connecting them to several outlets. The job was made even more difficult because the studio is on the second floor and the attic is small and cramped and is very difficult to move around in.

IT WENT: "YOU DIDN'T HAVE THE TIME TO DO IT RIGHT, BUT YOU SURE AS HECK ARE GOING TO MAKE TIME TO DO IT TWICE". I HATED HEARING THAT WHEN I TRIED TO WORK TOO FAST, BACK WHEN I WAS 17. IT STAYED WITH ME, AND NOW PEOPLE I WORK FOR SEE IT. PEOPLE DESERVE TO GET WHAT THEY ARE PAYING FOR, AND THEY DESERVE TO BE APPRECIATED. I HOPE ALL MY CUSTOMERS FEEL THAT I'VE TRIED MY BEST TO DEAL WITH THEIR ELECTRICAL ISSUES. IT'S WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY JOB, AND I'M COMING UP ON 55 YEARS OLD. I STILL LOVE WHAT I DO. THANK YOU.
