I have employed Natural Aspect Gardenscape overvseveral years. Throughout this time Bob Guthrie and his crew have consistently provided excellent advice and service. They are always responsive with small and large projects. Mr. Guthrie is very knowledgeable about all adpects of garden/landscape, including hard scape, work. I have learned to trust his and his crews' skill and judgment.
Description of Work: natural Aspect Gardenscape has completed general yard cleanup of more than 2 acres of landscape; installed and refreshed outdoor lighting with high efficiency lighting; replaced and refreshed landscaping; and substantially improved the efficiency of my large irrigation system, including my citrus, avocado and other fruit trees.

Bob came over on a Thursday to provide a quote and I was pretty happy with the artificial grass quote, so I kept adding to the job list. I had some other companies lined up for quotes, but I ended up just selecting Natural Aspect on the spot as I was happy with how Bob said he would do the project. They started on the next Monday after the quote. Originally it was just the front yard, but we added the backyard work while they were there. The work took about 2 weeks, but there were several rain delays. The team that came over was very friendly and very clean. They left no evidence, other than the work, that they were there. Swept up every day, tidied what they could, etc. The plans changed slightly from what my wife and I envisioned, but Bob explained the changes (we wanted a curved wall in front, but they ended up putting a straight wall in, and Bob explained why a curved wall would have looked funny in our situation). We pretty much let him decide on how things should look at this point, and we are both very happy with the results. He was not a high pressure sale at all, which is another plus for us. It was a 'here's the quote, let me know if you like it' situation. When someone is pushy with a sale, I always have to wonder why they are trying so hard. Anyway, I am very glad with going with Natural Aspect. The work was great, the team was great. We had some issues with a couple of the bricks after they left and Bob and team have been working to get this resolved. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: This project actually started just to have my front yard replaced with artificial turf and ended up with my front yard being completely re-done and then some improvements in my backyard. The front yard work consisted of getting artificial turf being installed with a hard edge, front steps covered with pavers, small retaining wall to widen driveway, pavers on both sides of the driveway (replacing a previous paver job on one side), new plants and irrigation. In the backyard I had wall toppers replaced, new irrigation, old grass replaced with new trees, plants and mulch, trimmed some trees on the property lines. They also added some new DG between the front and back yards and put some flag stone steps in. Weeded everything.

This property demanded to be overhauled. Once the old landscape was removed, old Tecate tiles that had led up the stairs to the front door were overlaid with new pavers, and those same pavers were used to outline a synthetic lawn area that was then surrounded with a subterranean drip irrigated, low water use and low maintenance planting theme. Additional space to enter and exit cars was created with the addition of a wall, holding back the encroaching front yard and that new area was overlaid with the same pavers used in the remainder of the yard. The end result is a beautiful yard for a couple who now can spend their available time with their two young children and be free of demanding maintenance on their home's exterior.

I contacted Bob Guthrie. He came to evaluate and give me an estimate the following day. I immediately felt very comfortable talking to him and we contracted him for the job. The next week he set the posts and arrived a few days later to finish the top of the railing. He was prompt, very neat, and professional. I'm thrilled with the outcome! The artistry of the design looks great in my yard! It took one week from estimate to completion.
Description of Work: I needed a railing to an aviary on another level of my yard where my husband and I rehab ducks.
Bob and the team were great - we had a design with pavers and desert friendly plants, and he helped us adapt the design to improve plant selection and meet budget goals. The whole crew was very mindful of our house during the work, and really delivered on the project. Great experience! Improved functionality of our front & back yards, installed new drip line irrigation, and automatic lighting. Rebuilt fence and gate. Two weeks from start to finish, well done.

Bob and his team were outstanding. They enhanced our design, met our budget, kept to the schedule, and were very thorough. They followed up after the project was completed to insure the irrigation system was working properly and that the turf and shrubbery were thriving.
Bob was awesome to work with. Very flexible and even when I had a few mid-work "ideas", he never seemed put off by it, he just made it happen. He was on site daily, and his team was always on time and kept the work place clean. He kept in constant communication with me about the project. I don't remember the exact date the work was done but it was in Oct-wary Nov timeframe.
Description of Work: Bob and his team took my dirt lot and transformed it it an amazing extension of my home. They put in DG pathways with flagstone steps, created a DG area for out door seating, planted a multitude of bushes and other drought tolerant plants, put wood fencing up, created a pad for the hot tub, some artificial grass, and re-did my existing gates. They also installed an automatic in ground drip irrigation system so I won't kill all the new plants! 😃

We competed three different landscape companies, and Bob Guthrie was the clear winner for both experience and understanding what we wanted to achieve. While our primary objective was to remove the lawn, we wanted Bob to utilize all the existing hardscape that he could as well as the various plants that were practical to retain. Not only did he do that (including relocating numbers of plants to better locations), he found a way to relocate and reconstruct a waterfall feature that was broken down and non-functional to our great delight! He also repaired and relocated a slump stone wall and retained and relocated landscape rock. The artful combination of serpentine mounds front and back (covered with course wood mulch) surrounded by decomposed granite plus relocation of various existing lawn ornaments, benches, etc. produced an overall very pleasing look that was just what we wanted and then some. What sets Bob apart is his no-nonsense approach to the job, straightforward clear explanations of plant choices (and rationale for same), and an ability to flexibly go with the homeowners wishes where they could be reasonably accommodated. We gave him a fixed budget to work with and he worked backwards from that number every step of the design and build process to deliver to our satisfaction within budget. He also installed a dozen or so new LED light fixtures and entirely new drip irrigation for every plant, including instructing me on irrigation schedules of the controller and needed adjustments as weather changes. Had trouble with lighting controller and he came out and straightened me out, also inspected plants for health and replaced some that he had transplanted! All in all a very positive experience. Our one "B'" on the ratings is explained as follows: Price was not competed, so we think we paid a bit of a premium for what we got. On the other hand, we think we got what we paid for. We are part of an HOA community and thus Bob had to do a plan that was acceptable to the HOA committee. They approved the plan and sent an approval letter after the completion. To be perfectly honest our home does not look "cookie cutter" like many of the other landscapes in this community.
Description of Work: Re-landscaped our entire 23 yr. old property (1/5 Acre). Major tasks were to remove grass front and back and replace with Mediterranean type plantings. Also completely re-did irrigation and lighting

Bob was extremely informative after going through the details of my landscaping project. In the end I do not have a big enough project to warrant his services but he answered all of my questions and even gave me estimates on how much I should expect to pay for gravel, masonry work, and demolition. He also gave me a head start on where to find a company that would be better suited for a smaller job. Was thoroughly impressed with how helpful he was and will definitely be using him if I have a larger sized project coming up.

The design concept of the front yard is lovely. I like the dry river bed. Once started the project was completed in a timely manner. I was pleased with the initial results. However during the next 6 months it was obvious that the job was less than professional. I often had a difficult time dealing with Bob?s patronizing and condescending attitude and remarks.. The following items should have been included in the $19000 price: 1.Removal of all of the original moraea bicolor Iris rhizomes. They are continually sprouting. I had to do some serious digging in 5 different areas to remove them to keep them from returning and taking over the yard. 2. Provide the warranties, boxes, and all instructions for the watering timer, lights or transformer. Seems this would be necessary if I should have any future issues. I was given only the lighting timer instructions. 3. A complete list of all new plants. I requested a list on 4 different occasions. I need the names to determiner pruning and fertilizing schedules. Bob?s response was that he would do that when he was in my area. After 8 months I am taking photos and will go to a nursery to identify the plants. 4. At least a 12 month warranty on lighting and install all new underground wiring.. Six months after completion, the lighting went out. I contacted Bob, and he asked me if I would like a service call. That didn?t sound like he was going to just check it out. I inquired and found out a service call is $125. I found the timer had a leaking battery and was able to clean it out and reset timer. It worked for a week and went out again. I bought a new timer that worked for a few days. I finally called another contractor/handyman who determined that it was not the timer, but the underground wiring. Six out of 7 pairs of LED lights were wired together and then wired to 23 year old original wiring going to the transformer box. The new wiring is larger than the old wiring. . All this to avoid putting new wiring under the existing side walk. Needless to say this took an hour to figure out since we had no plan or markers. The broken connection was found and my lighting was restored. The old wiring will undoubtably have to be replaced in a couple years. Additionally the old unused wiring was not removed. In a couple places it was sticking up out of the ground, in one case there was over a foot of wire.
Description of Work: I hired Natural Aspect to specifically re-landscape front yard including drip watering system, new lighting in the front and back yards, repair a fence, install imitation grass in the back yard and redo the watering system in the back yard garden area.

The client was well served with the removal of a front yard lawn and an installation of a low water use and low maintenance plant system. Additional additions were handled for an updated LED light system, a fence repair to avoid having to install a new fence and artificial turf in the rear yard. Plant and system reviews were handled efficiently in the first 3 months after installation, including plant additions to attempt to work around constant rabbit infestation. The installation went well and my final review indicated no problems. Now some 8 month later there are charges that she has indicated herein: 1. All Morea was removed. But this plant is extremely aggressive and once in a garden will continue to thrive for some time until all the sprouting seedlings are removed. This maintenance will end once the seedlings are eliminated. 2. There was never a request for any warrantee information from this client. I always handle warrantee situations on hardware as clients almost always fail to hold documents or do not act on those issues. 3. When we are doing the installation, we can provide lists of plant materials. There was no request until many months later. No problem with the exception of time. Just would have to do when we were in the area. 4. Updating an older lighting system to LED took some doing. Finally (long after the installation) the client contacted me about a timer issue where she told me that she had taken care of it. The next communication was this "review" that indicated how she resolved that issue. It is unfortunate that the client views my relationship with her as "patronizing". I and my group spent many hours working for and with her to give her a great garden. And we returned many times to handle issues related to the rabbit infestation and plant growth. I wish her the very best.

As other reviews have noted, Bob and his team are indeed booked out well in advance, and it took a few months to get on the schedule. We had talked with several other folks before meeting with Bob, who I found on Angie's List, and had been turned off by their lack of vision and positive attitude toward tackling our project. Bob was the first who came to give an estimate and didn't seem daunted or disinterested. We knew it was a big job and we wanted it look terrific and be relatively hassle-free upon completion. Beyond that we weren't too picky and we wanted expert advice, and we got it. He had good ideas about what we could re-purpose what we had and how we could keep costs manageable, and he had a good sense of us and how much work we wanted to do to tend to things after the work was complete (not much) and he planned accordingly. Once the work was underway the team was fast and thorough. They took about two and half weeks full time and left everything very clean every night. They were polite and personable and I liked that it was mostly the same folks everyday. Part of the work included painting our entire fence and Bob himself worked out concerns with the neighbors to ensure that was done quickly and addressing their concerns. He and the team were great about working with us on making a few changes as the job progressed and they have come out since finishing to check on things and adjust the irrigation. I used to be embarrassed every night when I came home from work--our yard was far and away the worst on the block--and now I love driving up to the house and looking out the windows. It looks beautiful and everything is growing in very nicely. We are very pleased with the work Bob and his team did and I recommend them highly.
Description of Work: Bob and his team completely revamped the front and back yards of our house. This included demolishing an old deck, building a new wall, paving the front porch, putting in irrigation that extends under the sidewalk, putting in LED lighting, building a sizable planter in the back yard, planting lots of plants and trees and trellising various items up the front and back fences. The list continues...The house truly was embarrassing and now it's a lovely oasis attracting hummingbirds and butterflies.

In summary: 1) Bob was not flexible with his time. 2) Bob was not creative with his pricing. 3) Bob Is not interested in being competitive (what makes a business good). 4) Bob will find excuses if he does call. 5) Bob wont touch anything unless his "profit margin" is very high (meaning expensive for the client). He only offers a discount for jobs that cost $10,000 or above???? Lastly, never trust a landscaper who has a P. O. Box and not a physical address (red flag to me)
Description of Work: Bob took a week to call me after I sent a message (via Angies List). He seems to big, to busy to come to my home and give a bid. He stated he is booked until January of 2015 (?). Then Bob, you should include you availability in your Angie's Adv! After I spoke to you on the phone, giving excuses about not calling me, I felt you were never interested (to small of a job for you to put up a retaining wall, a drain and a fence I guess) and gave me no appointment to look at the fence project or others I have planned. Little did Bob remebered that I have three other projects and little did he know that I have two friends who are looking for a Landscaping and will trust my opinion when it comes to recommending someone. Already Bob stated that he canno t compete with someone else's pricing when it comes to putting up a fence! Are you kidding me! Seems to me that Bob is interested in ONLY large project where he can charge lots of extra $$. He probably just asks former clients to please write a review (for a discount).

[Member Name] has a phone that he turns off and the message suggests that you call back later. This delayed my response to him. I did call back on two occasions and finally he called me back. I explained to him the rough costs of what he was proposing to do and suggested that he consider his budget and whether or not he could accomplish his goals before I came out and reviewed his job. On average I am estimating about 10 jobs a week and it is important that I understand beforehand the scope and budgetary constraints in consideration. I have a crew and I told him that in general we could not come on site for a very small job. It is true that we are "booked" way in advance, usually about 2 months or so. I explained to him that with a crew I have to keep it all going and that we were unable to start any job in a short time frame. Sorry that he took my comments in such a negative light. Good luck to him.

I found Bob and Natural Aspect on Angie's list. After getting some estimates I chose Bob because he seemed knowledgeable and was very straight forward with his thoughts regarding my project. He is very busy and it took about 2 months before he could begin my project but it was worth the wait. Bob and his crew put in drip irrigation, a brick path, a rock river bed and many plants. He was great to work with and his crew was friendly and professional. Bob even comes by afterward to check on the plants to make sure they are taking to their new home. My front yard was a real eye sore and now is the prettiest on the block. I can not wait for the plants to grow because I know its going to be even better in a year or so. I am so pleased, I already plan to have Bob back to begin work on my back yard.
Description of Work: Bob and his crew killed and removed the grass, took out an ugly brick planter installed a drip irrigation system and created a low water front yard landscape. The transformation was incredible.

A good client that "knew what she wanted" but was willing to modify so that the end results would yield a great garden that would dominate the hillside and natural area beyond the rear yard pool view. Planter boxes for vegetable production and a small fruit orchard will delight her young daughter. And an automated drip irrigation system will ensure fast growth and a water bill that will not break the bank. We all had a great experience. Thank you to [member name removed]. Bob
Bob visited several times prior to starting our project to discuss plans with us. He would always call to give us his ETA and he was always on time. We had a proposal from another highly rated company on Angie's list, but Bob had better ideas and gave us much more for our money. In fact, when I though I would have to eliminate a couple of features to reduce costs a little, Bob said, "no, you don't want to lose that" for two or three items, and he managed to work within my budget while keeping nearly everything we had in the original plan! It was almost like he knew what I wanted and needed more than I did! He really wanted us to be happy with the finished project. Once Bob and his crew started work, they were there every weekday for 3 weeks doing the demolitiion, debris removal, concrete pouring, planting, etc. We were told exactly what to expect all the way through the poject. Bob and his crew were very hard working and totally professional. At the end of each day, all their tools would be stacked neatly and out of the way. Bob focuses on only one job at a time so there were no delays. The results are amazing! Our yard is much more attractive and much more useable and enjoyable now. We are no longer paying for weekly lawn and garden service and our water usage has gone down by 40-50%! We just trim a few bushes now and then and use a leaf blower to keep our hardscaping tidy. You can't go wrong with Bob Guthrie and Natural Aspect!

I can't say enough good things about our experience with Bob Guthrie and Natural Aspect! Bob is extremely knowledgeable about plants and has many good ideas about yard design. He is very low-pressure and honest; in fact, several times he advised us against adding a project that would have added significantly to his very fair price quote. Bob is also comfortable with people who, like us, have many questions, and he takes a lot of time to explain everything. As some reviewers have mentioned, I did have to wait for my work to begin, but, once Bob starts a job, he and his crew stay with it until it is finished. His workers are all pleasant and hard-working; I was amazed at how carefully and completely they straightened up my yard and organized all their equipment at the end of each day. They did an especially thorough clean-up on the last day of the project, even rinsing the mulch dust off each newly-installed plant! I am very happy with the way my yard looks, but, to me, the peace-of-mind produced by dealing with a qualified, ethical contractor was equally important!
Description of Work: We had our front and back yards completely redone with the main objective to eliminate water-intensive grass without looking like a desert. We also added a lovely, winding, flagstone walkway, flagstone stairs, a rustic cement bench, and a retaining wall. The pathways, trees, and featured plants are now accented by lighting that adds safety and beauty. All of our new plants, as well as the plants on our patio and balcony, are now watered by an automatic drip system, so our maintenance time as well as our water bills should be markedly reduced.

The crew at Natural Aspect was great! They were punctual, hard working and cleaned up thoroughly at the end of each day. Bob's (owner) knowledge of plant materials was a very big help. If he brought in something for us to review prior to planting, and we did not like it, he promptly took it away and brought back something that satisfied our wishes. Bob was very helpful in providing some guidance in areas that we were unsure of, and we always had the last word. He was very easy to work with when it came to times when we wanted changes. Travis's woodworking skills produced a great looking (and sturdy) perimeter fence. The whole crew was friendly (our dog, Sasha, still misses them, I think), and they all did a great job!

From the moment I met Bob Guthrie (owner of Natural Aspect Gardenscape) I knew I'd be in good hands. His was the 3rd estimate I'd gotten and was not the least expensive, but I could tell he was professional, knowledgeable and would be responsive if decided to go with him. I knew that those qualities don't come cheaply, but having to hassle with a contractor or grouse about something poorly done is something I didn't want to do. Bob is creative and once he knows what you want, is fine with taking charge...and at the same time, is patient and open to your questions and suggestions. His crew is hard-working and it's obvious there is an excellent rapport among all of them, resulting in a job well done, with pride. Bob saved me money where possible (specifically...irrigation and lighting) and every time I see my now-lushly-growing and beautifully landscaped/lit back yard, I am grateful I decided to go with Natural Landscape.

Bob Guthrie of Natural Aspect gave me the best ideas out of the four companies I interviewed. He was very honest in telling me that he had three jobs ahead of me and I would have to wait approx. one month for them to start. From the first day to the last, the crew were very personable, hard working. The team of guys all seem to get along exceptionally well. I am so happy with the job thy did. In fact I am ordering pizza for the last day as a small thank you for a great job done!
Description of Work: Irrigation, landscape and hard scape. Re-vamped my existing pergola to bring it up to date and made it much more suitable to look at and also now fits in with the house and surrounding area.

I called Mr. Guthrie in Sept. He called back immediately and came to our property. He was too busy at that time to do the work and said he would fit me in when he had time. I called him back, we made a date which he kept. He rewired the irrigation system, replaced the control box, replaced, added and repaired sprinkler heads. This is very professional organization.
Description of Work: Excellent irrigation tune up.

Natural Aspect did a super job. The communication was difficult because he is so busy. It was difficult to set up a time with Bob, the owner, to get him in here and get the job done. We waited about 6 months. I don't hold it against him, because he does a super job. Everything he does seems to be top class. It was a pretty large item for a manufactured home. I don't want to grade him down on responsiveness, because it is just because he is so busy/ When he does respond it is an A, A+.
Description of Work: Natural Aspect did all of our initial landscaping. The entire area was landscaped; the front and side yards of a manufactured home. The side yard is 40 x about 80 feet and the front yard is probably 20 x 30 feet. They did it all in natural aspects.

We had no wait for a consultation and a short few weeks later they were able to start work. The process took about 4 days. The guys were organized and efficient. They did a clean-up each day before leaving.
Description of Work: We had a "makeover" of our property including: hillside cleanup & replanting, steps installed for easy access, fence shored up, grass removed, redwood planter box built in backyard, backyard beds were cleaned up & some replanted, sprinkler system changed to drip system debris hauled away, new rock placed in pathways, front yard re-landscaped with natural plants removing much of the old plants and grassy area.
