A few years ago we fenced in our parking space behind our townhouse to create a back patio. The area soon became a catch all for our beach gear. We wanted to beautify and define the space, but we didn't know where to begin. We worked with James Fahy at Mooch's Exterior Design, who looked at our patio and came up with different ideas and options for us. We knew we wanted a pergola for shade and built in planters and furniture to maximize space, and James came up with some additional solutions for the area which were very creative and stylish. He helped us choose paint and stain colors that updated and enhanced our existing exterior walls. He developed some plans, which we loved, and he and his team began working on the project within a week. It took less than two weeks to finish the project. Everyone who came to work on the patio was a pleasure to meet. They left the area neat and organized each day. Most importantly, we love the results. It looks like a yard makeover out of Sunset Magazine and has added an outdoor room to our home. We highly recommend working with James and the team at Mooch's Exterior Design.

Paul and his managers met with us and delivered written bid and detailed plans for all the work to be performed. The work and clean-up were completed on time and on budget to our complete satisfaction. The company has a well trained crew in a lot of crafts and were very professional.

I was excited by Paul's initial landscaping concept. I felt he listened to what I wanted and incorporated my ideas. He also took me to the nursery to identify plants that I liked. The initial process of clearing out the yards and planting was slower than I had anticipated, but in general, I was pleased with the outcome. Paul guaranteed that weeding and plant replacement would be provided through a few months after the landscaping completion. The drip system ended up not working, and it took several reminders for Paul to get his guys out to fix this problem. In the meantime, several plants died. These have not been replaced, but I am hopeful they will be per the agreement. Overall, the design work was what I was hoping for, but now I am finding it very challenging to have the job completed to satisfaction.

Paul came back to the house about 3 weeks later with conceptual drawings and we discussed what we liked and didn't liked. He said he would incorporate the feedback into the landscape plans. He also gave us an estimate, based on his prelim-drawings, of what doing all the proposed work would cost if we used him (approx $40K). I said we just wanted the completed plans and that we would do some of the work ourselves and would give him the work which we could not do ourselves (a majority of it). He never gave us the completed plans. We started the process in May and by Aug we still never had a completed plan. In the meantime he did clear out the yard and put in a small retaining wall ($1500), which were needed before we laid new concrete. He was supposed to give us the plans so we knew where the concrete was supposed to go (dimensions), where the pipes for the grill and firepit were supposed to be laid and where the electricity was supposed to go. My husband sells concrete and we could do it much cheaper than Paul could. He even said our price was unbeatable. The week before the concrete was being laid, I called him and said I have to have the plans. He never gave them to us. On the day before the concrete was poured, he came over and off the top of his head told where things should go. Well we now have a half finished yard and no plans and no plants. Paul was recommended by a friend, but she said he really never gave her a plan either. Now I have to start all over again. Frustrating.
