+ -1 moreThey were kind of freaky and wouldn't give us complete quotes. They are a bigger company. They are always on television and always advertise. Their quote was extremely high. They gave us quotes not in writing, but verbal and it was over $100,000 for a small kitchen. My kitchen is only 10 x 10. They wanted to knock down walls and do all kinds of crazy stuff that we didn't want to do. We did not go with them. They were very quick.

Enter reality - A wish is fine, but you have to make it happen, right? So - When you have a dream for your home - LARS is where to go. First the dream is laid out in their design room - Then their MASTER DESIGNER (and I mean MASTER - Brandon is AWESOME) looks over your needs and makes suggestions. Usually (I've done about 5 projects with them) things you never would have thought of are discussed with you. THEN - A few months later - Brandon and crew show up for a final walk-through where you get to show them that all the stuff you drew on paper - IS REAL. IT'S FRICKING REAL!!!! + 3 moreEXCELLENT! After moving into my families 1974 ranch home just outside of El Cajon, my wife and I decided to remodel the home since it still retained most of it's 1974 features. Members of our family had previously worked with Jason and Lars Construction so we asked to have them come out for a visit. Everything went great and within a short time, demo and construction begain. The design team worked tirelessly to make the features we wanted (and could afford) come true. This was my families home and I was glad to trust the work to Lars.

+ 0 moreJason (owner) came out to our house to meet us and try to better understand what we wanted to do (remodel of master bath/bedroom, whole house windows, etc.). Simply said, he did a great job asking questions and providing suggestions that we didn't even think about. We are still in the bidding phase and haven't made a decision yet.... however, just this past week, we emailed Jason about a separate issue with our backyard patio. Asked if he might know a contractor who could fix some problem areas (small job). He told us he'd like to come by and have a look himself, and then would be happy to suggest a few people. Wow, didn't expect that. Don't know what else to say other than I'd expect this type of help or attention from a family friend or relative...didn't expect this from a remodeling company, or the owner for that matter.

Description of Work: We were considering a concurrent kitchen and bathroom remodel and called Lars for an estimate as my brother and his wife were very satisfied with their work on their bathroom. A red flag went up when I called for an estimate appointment and a (very pleasant) woman said up front that their bathroom remodels START at $40,000! I went ahead and made the appt. since I figured there's no way that some of that $40k wouldn't apply to the kitchen. Brandon Spann came to the house. Very easy to communicate with, very pleasant. He seemed a competent designer and a good front man for Lars. However, it quickly became clear that Lars considers a kitchen/bath remodel a small job. Brandon verbally sketched out a major interior redesign of our kitchen/bath that was nothing short of "over the top" and way more than what we were thinking. He tossed out a rough figure of $125,000 and I practically laughed out loud. Not going to happen. Only people with more money than they know what to do with would consider total tear-down kitchen and bath remodels to be small jobs but Lars does. Don't call them unless you have 100k or more to spend. However, to be fair, I was impressed with Brandon enough that I might consider Lars if I was considering a really big job.

+ 1 moreThe job went fairly well. Our original project manager was not moving things along systematically enough (scheduling trades that overlapped, or in the wrong order). When I reported this to Lars, the project manager was replaced and our job got back on track. Communication between the salesperson (Lori Drake) , designer (Yvette Travers) and new project manager (Bryan Loorya) was excellent. All of the tradesmen sent by Lars were very professional and the quality of the work was excellent. The scheduling system on-line kept me informed on who was going to be in the house each day. Although our job was delayed somewhat by the first project manager, we were very pleased by the end product. Although I hated to see a person get fired it was good to know that Lars addressed the problem and got us back on track. We spent more on the project than we originally planned. However the expensive items that went over budget were my choice and I am glad now that it's done that we spent a little extra.
Description of Work: complete remodel of downstairs. Gutted kitchen, tongue and groove ceiling, stone wall, wainscoting, built-ins, barn door,new lighting, etc.

+ 1 moreWe did a major home addition and remodel of our kitchen through Lars, adding almost 600 square feet (extending our dining area and adding a room upstairs). Jason Larson (who owns the company) is genuine, honest, and down to earth. These qualities really reflect in his business and ethics. Our house was only about 10 years old but we wanted it to be more functional. We wanted a remodel where no one could tell where the old house stopped and the additions/changes began. And this is exactly what we got. We love the end product of our remodel. And we have received so many compliments from our neighbors on how the house really fits into the existing scheme of the neighborhood. While no major remodel is going to be without bumps, Jason and his team worked hard to make sure we were ultimately satisfied. I am very grateful for Jason’s involvement with our project. We are going to enjoy many years of enjoyment from our investment.

Description of Work: Lars remodeled my kitchen with new cabinets, counters, backspace and appliances. I spent a few visits with a designer, whom I worked with to include special items that I wanted, for example a pull-out spice drawer. I worked with a consultant who helped me pick out tile and counter tops as well as new lights and paint colors. She was invaluable, and so very patient. Once the work began, I worked closely with the project manager, who was a gem. He oversaw all the subcontractors, and saw to it that the project was accomplished on time and perfectly. I couldn't have been happier. I would not consider any other contractor on future work for my home. Every single person I cam in contact with at Lars was there to be sure that I was happy, that I got what I wanted and that work was beautifully executed. I consistently have compliments on my kitchen, and it's now a year old. I cook a great deal, and it's well designed for cooking, and looks beautiful to boot. I couldn't be happier.

We added a bedroom, repainted both the interior and exterior, as well as replaced much of the flooring throughout the house. Their design team was a pleasure to work with. They were very patient and did all they could to insure we were comfortable and happy at every turn. Every member of their team respected our home as though it was theirs. And they insured that their sub-contractors acted the same way. Never before had I seen a contractor be so thorough in it's selection and management of it's subs. I would highly recommend that you include Lars on your list of potential contractors. They did an outstanding job.

The Lars team put our minds at ease and walked us through the project every step of the way. Our designer Chih took our ideas and made our space beautiful and just what we were looking for. All the employees and the owner of the company, Jason Larson were very knowledge and always there to answer any questions or concerns. We had an issue with tile installation and they made sure it was completed to our satisfaction and in a timely manner. We just love our new space and enjoy showing it off to our friends and family. Even a few neighbors have stopped by to take a peek. If your looking for company that cares and goes the extra mile to make sure their clients are very happy with their remodel, Lars is it! On our final walk through they made sure even the smallest things had met our expectations. We would highly recommend Lars to friends-family and anyone looking for a company that truely cares and provides exceptional quality !

+ 1 moreBrandon is a guy of the utmost integrity, and as a bonus, he's a veritable library of useless movie quotes. He and the rest of our team made the long, arduous process of remodeling completely bearable. You might get a cheaper quote from someone else, but you won't get better service. Given the nightmares we've heard from others whose contractors have bailed on them toward the end of their projects, we considered going with a reputable contractor a no-brainer. When people walk into our newly remodeled house, they are blown away. Everyone says the same thing: "It's like a whole new house." We agree. Thanks, Lars!
Description of Work: We had a free design consultation with Lars, and they were able to come up with an elegant and thoroughly workable solution to our entryway problem - something we'd been wrestling with for ages (and had other designers/architects look at). We had them do a huge remodel for us... entryway, kitchen, den. We've never had anything like this done before, and we were slightly terrified. They demo-ed the walls down to the studs and had to replace some subflooring in parts. They were professionals every step of the way, and we are so glad we went with them.

We had a WHOLE house remodel both inside and out completed by Lars which included 3 bathrooms, gourmet kitchen, 4 bedrooms with built in cabinetry, crown moldings, new doors, room addition, roofing and much, much more. We worked with Brandon Spann and John Klacka who made the design process fun and the end results very rewarding. Our ideas and desires were incorporated into the design so as not to have just a ?cookie cutter?remodel. Our dream house became a reality for us. The subcontractors Lars used were always professional and respectful of our home. We also had a great project manager who met with us weekly (and really pretty much on a daily basis!!) Weekly meetings are a staple of LARS. If any problems arose they were taken care of immediately. Our project manager was a great problem solver and was able to fix and/or address any glitches that occurred. The quality of the work and materials used are absolutely the gold standard of the industry. Lars also has taken care of any problems that occur without hesitation and have done so for us even after our warranty had expired. I highly recommend Lars Remodeling and Design for any project.

+ -1 moreI wanted to demolish my current kitchen and make a new one in a different room of the house. I had a good meeting with a designer/salesman from Lars who was professional and had some good ideas. I thought I made it clear that I had a limited budget. Then after he left and emailed me the estimate for three different possibilities for a kitchen remodel, I was floored by the costs he quoted. They ranged from $60k-$120k. The cheapest option, $60k, was simply moving some plumbing and gas line to a different room and required additional demolition of a small bathroom and minor construction to clean up that area. The price did not include kitchen cabinets. The quote did not include an itemized list to justify the costs. This estimate was 2-3 times higher than I received from other contractors. I ended up going with a different company, who was able to offer a remodel of half of my home for $60k, including the kitchen with cabinets included, moving my laundry fixtures, making a new hallway, remodeling the master bathroom, and doing cement work in the backyard. The work is about 30% done, and so far, so good!

+ 3 moreIt has been 8 or 9 months since the “end” of my kitchen / family room remodel by Lars Remodeling and Construction Company; I feel I’ve had time to give the work a fair evaluation. My experience with the remodel did not go as I had hoped or anticipated and was very disappointing. I didn’t realize that I had paid top dollar for “industry standard” quality until I was well into the “finish work” of the project. Because of the high cost, numerous problems and the final result of my remodel - I would not recommend Lars Remodeling and Construction Company --- caveat emptor.

+ 1 moreTheir bid was way out of line. So, I did not use them. It was a free estimate. The guy, who came out, seemed to know what he was doing. He seemed to be experienced. I knew what I wanted done. His quote was two and a half times higher than the other bids that I got. I am unlikely to consider them for a future quote.

The project director did a good job of managing it all and getting it done. They responded to any problems that popped up or changes that had to be made. They were right here on top of things.
Description of Work: Lars Construction remodeled my kitchen in March. They totally removed and renovated my kitchen. It included all cupboards, countertops, plumbing and electrical. They raised the ceiling as well.

They were very willing to please and give us what it is that we wanted. We haven't got any work done by them yet, but we were very pleased with how they were when we met with them. We are uncertain right now if we would go with them or not, but I think we probably will. We are still waiting for other information to come in from other people. So it was just positive. They were very punctual too.

+ -1 moreMike Larsen and his crew (Leland and Mike) are great. They were able to install our doors sooner than expected and worked superfast - in the rain, even! They were able to correct a problem with one of the doors within a day and they still completed the install ahead of schedule. They communicated very well with us through the process and left the place sparkling clean. We would definitely work with Lars Construction again.

+ 0 moreThe experience went very well. We were very pleased. They had a project manager that oversaw and coordinated everything. We had a designer that helped us design how we wanted the kitchen to be. He worked with us all through the project, and helped us make all of our selections. You get what you pay for with them. I was very pleased with them, but don't expect them to just do everything. You have to be very interactive while working with them. There were often questions or little changes that had to be made. It was good that someone was always home while they were here. They are very good about communicating with you. One minor thing that we didn't like is when they installed our appliances, the plumber that they had hired some people that did a terrible job installing appliances. They apologized.

+ -1 moreWork was to be done on a tight time schedule due to our leaving for an extended trip. Work was done on time, workmanship by in-house staff was excellent. Workmanship of sub-contractors was generally good, unsatisfactory work was corrected. Excellent coordination between project foreman/supervisor and clients. Change orders were discussed and approved in advance; no real surprises beyond the usual you run into when you open up an older house. Not inexpensive, but I feel the general quality of the work, their cooperation in hitting a tight schedule, made it worth the price. Contractor declined to install cabinets I had purchased from another source, I had to hire another contractor to do this.

+ -1 moreThe overall experience was fantastic. We have heard from others that remodeling in general is a very trying experience; however, Lars Construction was on our team from the beginning. From the Design Phase until the end when they polished the last window, Lars always kept us informed and exceeded our expectations. We especially liked when they spent 3 hours at the project walk through, informing us of what was going to take place and what we should expect during the construction process. From Brandon the Designer, Mike the Project Manager, Teresa in the office and all of the Trade contractors, we felt like we were all on the same page and almost like family! I have referred this company to many of my friends, family and neighbors and will continue to do so.
Description of Work: Lars Construction added over 1000 sq. ft. to our home in Spring Valley. The addition consisted of a master retreat, 2- Bedrooms and a hall bathroom.
