Khanh's Gardening Service

Description of Work: I have owned this house and the yard that came with it for about 8 months. I think it’s mostly common knowledge that you can expect some issues with contractors and handymen. Well, I went through probable 4-5 “contractors” and the men who worked with them. Finally we got the house in good shape (it’s a 1939 bungalow) and painted the right colors. The gardening is a different story. First I tried a landscape and gardening service. At first they seemed really goo and explained why they had to redo the entire irrigation system estimates for the work, and why it would be a good thing to turn the nasty mosquito pond into a beautiful fountain pond .What I didn’t know was they were just first estimates. I ended up paying around $15,000 for the whole works. Them I moved into a standard yard service agreement. This included 1 hour (exactly 1 hour) of service from them. Each additional minute was an additional dollar. And even when something that they “fixed” went wrong, I got charged foe emergency services. I went through a couple other “gardeners” until I found Ly (pronounced LEE) Khanh From the first day it was very obvious that he knew what gardening meant. He showed me many of the mistakes that had been done and make very good suggestions about how to fix it. When I suggest a solution that is not really viable in the landscape, he very politely moves me little by little to the suggestion he first made. Working by the hour plus materials is often a problem. The first few times Ly came to work he started before I got up, and continued to work until around 6 – 7 PM. Then I saw that it wasn’t just to make himself look good at the beginning. He sees his work as projects, and he works until the project is done. So I decided to put him on a salary plus materials. This works out great. Right now he is doing a lot of correction work so he’s here pretty much every day. But once it’s looking the way we both want it he will come over whenever he see’s work to be done or we schedule something. If there is nothing that needs attention he doesn’t come over. I pay him a pretty small salary for all his work - $110/ month, but he is the best gardener I’ve ever known and he is worth everything he would ask for.
