JACKSON DESIGN & REMODELING

On March 23rd 2019 our family home of 30+ years was completely destroyed by a garage fire. This was one of the most tragic and devastating events in our family’s history. Among the irreplaceable possessions and countless memories, we also lost 2 of our furry family members. This entire event tore a massive hole in our lives larger than words I feel can describe. Fortunately, we were insured which allowed us the ability to rebuild, however; the thought of rebuilding what was lost was an enormously daunting task. It seemed as though it would be impossible to recreate a place that we felt was truly “our home”. In mid-April, we walked into Jackson Design and Remodeling where we met with Jim Groen and Todd Jackson. From the moment we walked through the doors of their beautiful showroom and met Mr. Jackson we knew this was the right place. The exceptional care, respect and professionalism they showed regarding the tragedy we had just gone through was beyond comforting. After our initial introductions, we were set to meet with Jennifer Rosenthal and Jaclyn Dunbaugh, our “Design Team”. Both of these ladies were able to envision exactly what we loved about the home we lost and helped us transition that vision into something beautiful and brand new. It was such an easy process with such an amazingly talented team. We were fortunate enough to work with architect David Hall, who implemented amazing innovation, speed and accuracy to bring the exterior of our new home to a more beautiful version of the old exterior. By the end of July, insurance processes had been completed and we were ready to break ground. Though we were not able to live in our home while it was rebuilt, we remained close by and made many trips to see the progress. At this point, our wonderful Project Manager, Joey DuPlante, took over to begin building, which became an unexpectedly simple and expeditious process. Every time we went to the property it was clean and there was visible progress and ongoing work. It truly changed our perspective on how daunting the process had seemed at the beginning. Our design team continued to work with us through the entire construction process, making selections a piece of cake! Jackson Design and Remodeling had our house completed and move-in ready one week before Christmas. This was something we had hoped for but had seemed impossible when we started. The first week in our “new home” was surreal. Everything was different and new, yet it somehow felt immediately like our home. We truly believe that Jackson Design and Remodeling did the impossible and made our lives complete again. Jackson Design and Remodeling not only rebuilt a house, they created our home and have forever touched our lives. We went from the hardest moment we had experienced to sitting at the end of the project, in our new living room with the Team of our dreams who made it happen. We could not be more happy with our kitchen remodel. From our very first interaction in the early concept and planning stages thru the last finishing touches, we had a very positive experience. Our collaboration with the JDR team was very interactive, they listened to ideas and visions and then assisted in finding practical solutions. The professionalism and quality of their services is outstanding - from the design through the material selection and actual construction, we always felt that in JDR we had a partner who was looking our for us and ready to go above and beyond to ensure we were satisfied with the outcome. We would work with JDR any time again.

All excellent. Project manager is local, and has a manager to answer to who also shows up to inspect. Designer works closely with crew, and nothing appears to need re-doing; no regrets.

I did an extensive condo remodel. Needed a designer to improve the small space kitchen for 2 people and flow and added a 3rd floor office, library, & exercise area loft within the vaulted ceiling area among other improvements. It was a difficult job with limited common area parking & need for trash removal. Hired JDR as heard they were excellent in small space design & construction. I was not disappointed! Pamela is an outstanding designer along with her assistant Jennifer who changed drawings while we were meeting so we could see them on paper rather than wait and have another meeting or call. This allowed for easier design & product decisions on our part. Arnold went with me to present to the HOA requesting approval on changes for roof penetrations & a new chimney location for my fireplace. Very happy with JDR’s design! Then, there was Joe, our construction project manager. In all remodels there are surprises when you are removing walls, adding a walk-in shower, removing a bathtub that requires rearranging plumbing for a new soak tub, etc. and Joe’s experience and problem solving skills, along with Pamela, saved time and money. I had to move out because of the work and Joe was in constant contact with updates and photos of progress. During construction, I believe Joe had my interest at heart and went beyond the call to make us happy. My sweetheart & I are enjoying my new condo. The JDR design-build team made it possible. My highest recommendation!

Jackson Design completed our project ahead of schedule and within budget, which is not something to take for granted with most contractors! The quality of their work is top notch. They are more expensive than other contractors we interviewed, but worth the extra cost for a larger project since they are very tight on the project management front. Any issues that came up were addressed almost immediately and to our satisfaction. We felt like a little more attention could have been given on the design portion of our project, however. For example, our original plan called for an entry way that would have basically blocked our garage access or required a re-do of our garage entry, however fortunately we caught this before we went to build (our concern was that we caught this rather than them). Another minor issue came up with the placement of light switches and outlets, in that we thought we would be able to have a walk through and make changes before this finalized which was not the case. Overall, we are happy, but can offer some suggestions for working with JDR based on our experience: 1. I would recommend spending a lot of time on your initial design to make certain you have it 100% right (or at least 99% right) before moving on to the next stage. We made the mistake of rushing this part since we were anxious to get started, and I think things would have gone even better had we spent a little more time up front, in the initial planning stage. 2. Make sure you are allocated adequate "design" hours for the interior design. Their team is very talented and they helped us immensely, but we still felt some details did not get the level of attention we would have liked for the price we paid. All in all, our " re-dos" were minimal considering the size and scope of our project. We probably spent less than $2,000 of re-dos on a $470,000 project because of design oversights, which really isn't bad, and some of this was out of JDR's control (but not all). We had Don Thomas as a project manager - he is amazing at solving problems, getting things done, and communicating every step of the way. We felt we were in excellent hands with him. Our Architect, Jim, went above an beyond the call of duty by coming out to meet with us and our neighbor over an unexpected trellis our neighbors were building that threatened to block our new view. He negotiated an extra 6" of view for us which really made a difference. Jim also did a walk-through of our project about half way through and added some design elements for no additional cost that worked out really well. Jim also has a great personality for dealing with stressed out homeowners (like us!) during the project. He was the calm, soothing, rational person to turn to when things were stressful - an unexpected benefit of working with JDR! You can definitely tell they take pride in the quality of their work and reputation, and will work hard to maintain their good reputation. I think for larger projects they are a great choice overall.

Perfect! From design to execution, it could not have been better.

This was our first remodel and we initially selected JDR based on their reputation, various customer reviews and information from the BBB. Once we met with the JDR staff and had them visit our home, we knew we were on the right track. They were professional, considerate and answered all our questions. It was however the design that sealed the deal. In the short time that they spent with us and in our home, the JDR design staff presented a custom design that was perfect. It fit us so well that we did not change any aspects of the design. What JDR designed and presented, they built - on time and on cost. The materials and products that they presented were available, so we didn?t have to settle on something else when it came time to make selections. Throughout the process the JDR staff kept us informed and updated and the Project Manager was responsive and very detailed. Remodeling isn?t quick and easy, but in the end, JDR transformed our home as promised.

They lady came out but they wanted $3,000 just for the plans to do the kitchen design. We are thinking about looking into other contractors due to this price. We are still thinking about using them due to the beautiful work that they do, we are just weighing the cost aspect for the design.

The representative from Jackson Design was professional. However, the cost was way too high: $150k estimated for renovating my master br/bath and building a loggia on the back of my 1700 sq ft house. I ended up hiring an independent architect/designer and will get competitive bids from contractors once the plans are complete. I'd say Jackson might be a good choice if you have lots of money and like one company to do it all (design/build).

In a major project, you prepare yourself for things going wrong but nothing did. Twice, I was a little unsure about how my Master Bathroom and Laundry would turn out. I shared my concerns and was grateful for how quick Don Thomas (Project Manager) and Jen Pinto (Interior Designer) came up with suggestions that fully eased my small concerns. Looking back, these two small hiccups were all down to me not visualizing the entire finished project and panicking a bit along the way. Nonetheless they both listened and made suggestions that all turned out to add to the finish result : Don and Jen are huge assets to JDR and I wouldn’t want to work with anybody else. We could write pages on the exceptional quality of the work, the professionalism of every man and woman who worked on our project, from Stina Nielsen, Brent Stevens to wonderful and cheerful Al and all the framers, painters, tilers and electricians. All of them made the experience actually enjoyable because they all take pride in their work and it shows! We are people who won’t settle for average in anything we do and we know what we want and don’t want. The planning and entire execution of our remodel was flawless and the attention to details from all at JDR was outstanding. If you are not yet convinced that you need to work with JDR, let me try again : 1/ They finished the project 3 weeks EARLY. 2/ Down to every little paint patch up detail, buzzing LED bulbs and missing screw. Things we could not even have seen were pointed out, added on the punchlist and SOLVED quickly. Everything got done ! 3/ The house looks spectacular !! If / When I need another remodelling project done, I won’t work with anybody but JDR with Don Thomas and Jen Pinto. I am so thankful to JDR for delivering my dream house. Thank you !

We had a small, dysfunctional kitchen that I have wanted to remodel for over 26 years. Our JDR design team, Jim and Pam came up with a wonderful design that met all of my requirements. This involved a near complete gutting of the inside of the kitchen, dining area, living room and entry way. We had some challenges, due to a prior owner having done his own remodeling. They solved those challenges without charging us extra. Other companies that we interviewed were reluctant to include fixes for those issues in their bids. The JDR bid included them, which was very important to me. Pam found me an amazing deal on two granite slabs that were on close out. Jesse, our project manager kept the project moving and was extremely responsive to any issues that arose. Our completion date was supposed to be August 27 - they had us back in our kitchen 2 1/2 weeks ahead of schedule! Our overall experience with JDR was fantastic and I would use them again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. I absolutely love my new kitchen, living and dining space!

The complete job took 6 months (the original estimate was 5 months). It was a long and arduous process as we chose to continue to live in the house during the remodel. We are extremely pleased with the final results. Jackson did a great job with the design and wrangling the numerous sub-contractors required for the work. They were very responsive to our requests. There were times when some sub-contractors did not arrive on the scheduled dates, Jackson did a pretty good job rescheduling around all the unforeseen events.

I would use Jackson Design and Remodeling if I had to. The program is good. The attitude of the company is good. They're real positive and cheerful. I think they're very knowledgeable in what they do. They do everything, not specifically just drywall and electrical. They're a full-service design and build team.

Selected Jackson Design and Remodeling (JDR) after interviews and reference checks with numerous kitchen remodel companies. Assigned project team included company executive, kitchen designer, project manager, and support personnel. After project team met with client to review scope and requirements, JDR prepared detailed conceptual design, floor plan, materials, color template, etc. After two revisions to this design proposal and requested project budget, developed final scope, cost, contract. Revised contract was negotiated and project work commenced in early February, 2013. Project was completed ahead of schedule and on budget. The project manager kept us informed, was always available via phone or text, and quite responsive and flexible. Each of the subcontractors used by JDR were highly competent, efficient, professional and respectful to minimize disruption to our daily living during the project. JDR sent out a weekly schedule each Friday and generally adhered to the projected weekly plan. As with any project of this scope there were a couple of issues which required a change from the original plan. JDR was very fair in developing solutions which met our expectations and did not require change orders for additional expense. The original contracted completion schedule was 10 weeks. The project was 90% completed (sufficient to move into our new kitchen) in six weeks and the full punch list was completed in seven weeks. Our kitchen remodel exceeded our expectations and we are very please with the finished product. We highly recommend JDR for remodeling projects, without reservations.

this is the second time within the last 5 years we're remodeling a house with Jackson Design. Our current home was also completely remodeled by them in 2007. We've received 2 other quotes from construction companies and decided to go with Todd and his company because of the great prior experience we had and the fact that his proposed budget for the same work was much lower than the other 2 construction companies. Our designer is Sol who together with her assistant Vanessa designed our new home - not only does Sol have the most excellent taste but she actually listens to what her clients want and then delivers. Sol designed our current very modern home and completely understood when we decided to go with a more traditional/contemporary design this time. Our project manager Don is always so responsive, knowledgable, and has been the driver behind the current remodel. No matter what surprises were awaiting him in the last 9 months, he immediately had solutions, and when you remodel an old, partial tear down he is exactly what we needed - calm, experienced, and in constant contact with us. If you work with employees of a company for 9 months straight you know whether you're in good hands or not - we know we are. On top of all that, we just sold our current home that JDR remodeled 5 years ago and Justin from Jackson was instrumental in helping us fix everything that the new owners had on their punch list. Todd has an amazing crew and runs an honest business which is hard to find these days.

We are extremely pleased with all of the upgrades that we made. Jackson's design team were so responsive to our design needs. Tatiana was our designer and she paid attention to every detail as we planned out the work to be done and offered excellent suggestions to make the whole project turn out beautiful. We asked Jackson if they could do the project in stages so we could live in the house as the work was completed which they did with no problem. To cut down on dust throughout the house they devised plastic walls with zippers and this helped the rest of the house that wasn't being worked on. Jackson kept us updated daily on what was completed and what they planned to do the next day. They were very responsive whenever we had a question or concern. I would definitely use Jackson again for any remodeling needs. I appreciated their expert advice in all areas of the remodel and I especially loved that on the last day I came home to a sparkling clean house--no dust anywhere. It was like walking into a model home.

Our advice: If you choose Jackson, understand that they may promise a good deal more than they are capable of delivering and constant supervision/quality control from the homeowner wil be required to ensure less than substandard results.

The seminar was excellent and very useful. A free in-home consult was offered to discuss possible future projects. I met with their architect to discuss my remodeling plans. He was able to ball park some costs and mention some ideas for changes for me to think about. I was not planning to begin the projects for 6-18 months and I had not met with any other builders, we did not sign a contract or make plans to meet again. I am not sure I will use, or need a Design/Build company, but I now appreciate the advantages and will think about that for the future. I would consider using Jackson Design and Remodeling.

The owner of Jackson DesignTodd Jackson came over to look at the area of the proposed remodel and discuss goals, expectations and any concerns I might have re. the remodel process. He said he would have to review the code restrictions for my area and he would get back to me within a few days with information. As of today, April 12th, I have not heard back from either Todd or anyone representing his company.

I got a quote of $28,000. They are a larger firm only specializing in larger remodeling and potentially commercial construction work. They had more resources and facilities than what I needed for my smaller remodeling project, but they were definitely very organized. I think they were just over skilled for our project. I would definitely recommend them. They will probably do a great job for bigger project. The value they have are useful for bigger projects, but not for smaller projects.

We had Todd Jackson over for an interview to see if his services would be good for us. Ultimately we decided that the scope of our project was much less than what his company normally does. They are such a big company that with the kind of overhead they have, made them about 50 percent more expensive. He was very honest about that and didn't waste too much of our time. He was very expensive. He was very good and professional. He and the company had great customer service. They had a client relation’s person. He was an hour late for the appointment because somebody had transposed the appointment in his outlook. We don’t think there is any project that we would do that would warrant his services. He is really gearing towards a higher level clientele who want to do custom home builds.

My interaction with them was limited but they were very helpful. I didn’t end up using them because I’m handicapped and I used a company that specifically works in the handicap area. They called me right back and they were very good. They have a class that they offer for people that are remodeling; I think that’s a good idea and I like that. They covered stuff that I wouldn’t have thought about like getting references and a timeline.

It turned out well. Everything was quite professional and they answered all of our questions. When we did have an issue they cleared it up quickly. The price was a little high but we were happy and would use them again.

We will be remodeling our house and we are working with them on the design and then they will be doing the buildup. They are very responsive, have great ideas and have high level of collaboration which is something that is really like.
