Terrible. This contractor started remodeling the bath without getting the proper city/county permits. After a couple days he told us he could make our kitchen much larger. We said "Ok" and he proceeded to demolish the kitchen and remodel it, also without the benefit of the required permits or plans. (NOTE: It is the contractor's responsibility to have plans drawn AND get permits prior to starting.) The contractor actually told us we didn't need permits. He never mentioned plans or change orders, both of which are required by the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB). NOTE: THE CONTRACTOR WAS CITED FOR NOT OBTAINING PERMITS. This contractor failed to provide a written contract for the kitchen remodel, and also failed to provide change orders for all the changes and "extra costs," about $10,000 worth. NOTE: THE CONTRACTOR WAS CITED FOR NOT HAVING PLANS AND CHANGE ORDERS FOR THE ORIGINAL CONTRACT. This contractor had "day workers" but did not carry worker's comp, which puts the property/project owner at risk. NOTE: THE CONTRACTOR WAS CITED FOR NOT HAVING WORKMEN'S COMP INSURANCE. This contractor did not install the required GFCI outlets in the kitchen; the GFCI outlet installed in the bathroom does not pass inspection (does not work properly). NOTE: I HAVE WRITTEN EVIDENCE (EMAILS AND PHONE TEXTS) THAT DISPUTE BORAD'S CLAIM. This contractor installed the water lines to the vanity sink and shower backwards, causing the hot water to be on the right and the cold water to be on the left. This also caused the shower temperature control manifold to fail, disabling the ability to adjust the water temperature. NOTE: THE CONTRACTOR CLAIMS THE LINES WERE CROSSED IN CONSTRUCTION (whatever that means), HOWEVER THE HOT/COLD WATER IN THE BATH THAT I BACK-TO-BACK WITH THIS BATHROOM STILL WORKS PROPERLY. This contractor did not install shutoffs for the lavatory sink fixture. NOTE: YES, BORAD DID "OFFER" TO FIX THE PROBLEMS, BUT AFTER NEARLY SIX MONTHS, HE NEVER FOLLOWED THROUGH AND WOULD NOT COMMIT TO A TIME TO FIX THEM. ESSENTIALLY HE ABANDONED THE JOB. This contractor did not properly grout or seal the shower fixtures, allowing water to get into the wall behind the shower. NOTE: BORAD'S CLAIM THAT I WANTED TO ADJUST THE PARTS IS AN OUTRIGHT LIE. I HAVE EVIDENCE THAT I ASKED HIM TO SEAL UP BOTH THE TEMPERATURE CONTROL AND THE SHOWER HEAD FLANGES TO THE TILE TO PREVENT WATER FROM GETTING INTO THE WALL. This contractor failed to complete "the job" by fixing the above discrepancies. BORAD CLAIMS THAT I SET A DEADLINE THAT COULD NOT BE REACHED. lol... MY EMAILS AND PHONE TEXTS SHOW THAT BORAD HAD FROM OCT 16, 2013 UNTIL JAN 9, 2014 TO FIX THE PROBLEMS. HE NEVER BOTHERED TO SET A DATE TO DO SO BECAUSE HE NEVER INTENDED TO COMPLETE THE JOB. Other items of workmanship: - Contractor allowed a new and inexperienced employee to install floor tile, many of which are not level with the adjacent tiles. - Contractor did not properly seal the floor tile. Sealer instructions stated the "multiple coats are required; contractor only put one coat. When questioned about this the contractor stated "You only paid for one coat." Since I didn't have a written contract, it's difficult to determine what I paid for. BORAD SAID I ONLY CONTRACTED FOR ONE COAT. ACTUALLY, THERE WAS NO CONTRACT OR CHANGE ORDERS FOR THE KITCHEN. NOTE: THE CSLB CITED BORAD FOR NOT HAVING CHANGE ORDERS. - Lack of plans caused the kitchen to be "off balance." The sink and window are not in the middle of the wall. In addition, the window is installed crooked, meaning that it is not level. BORAD SAID "FALSE." HOWEVER, I HAVE PHOTOS THAT CLEARLY SHOW THE WINDOW SLOPES TO THE LEFT. - Although I paid a significant amount up front (far more than the ten percent max) the contractor did not pay his subs in a timely manner. I got a "threatening letter" from one of the materials providers stating that a lien would be put on our property if the "bill" was not paid. I've done a lot of work with contractors and have NEVER received one of these threats in the past. BORAD SAID ALL CONTRACTORS WERE PAID, HOWEVER I HAD TO TELL BORAD TWICE TO PAY THE DRYWALL SUPPLIER TO GET THE SUPPLIER OFF MY BACK AND STOP THE THREATENING LETTERS. - Contractor asked that a $29,000 payment be made with three separate checks.. This is a VIOLATION of FEDERAL LAW. Check out this contractor's California CSLB page (License number 789209) to see the citations levied by the CSLB. BORAD CLAIMS THIS IS FALSE. HOWEVER, I HAVE AN EMAIL FROM BORAD, ON 9/3/3013, THAT CLEARLY SHOWS HE ASKED ME TO GIVE HIM THREE CHECKS " SO HE CAN DEPOSIT THEM SEPARATELY TO SAVE ON TAXES." HIS EXACT WORDS. BORAD CLAIMED THAT NO RESTITUTION WAS ORDERED BY THE CSLB. WELL, THAT'S TRUE...SORT OF. THE CSLB DOESN'T ORDER MONETARY RESTITUTION. THE CSLB DOESN'T REALLY CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMERS. HOWEVER, THEIR INITIAL INSPECTION REPORT SHOWED AN AMOUNT OF OVER $10,000 TO REPAIR THE BATHROOM, AND ABOUT $1,000 FOR THE KITCHEN GFCI WORK. THEY (CSLB) SAID I WOULD HAVE TO GET IT FROM BORAD'S BOND. (I'M WORKING ON THAT.) AND THERE'S ALWAYS CIVIL COURT. THEY LATER LOWERED IT ABOUT $3,000 AFTER BORAD APPEALED TO THEM. BORAD SAYS I OWE HIM $3,600 FOR THE PROJECT. WELL... BY HIS OWN ACCOUNTING IN AN EMAIL DATED 9/3/2013, HE OWES ME $1,300, THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE CASHED CHECKS TOTALING $77,000 WITH BORAD'S SIGNATURE ON THEM, AND THE TOTAL COST OF THE PROJECT, INCLUDING COST OVER RUNS. I HAVE COPIES OF THE CASHED CHECKS TO PROVE IT. SINCE BORAD'S COMPUTER CONVENIENTLY CRASHED, HE HAS NO 'VERIFIABLE EVIDENCE' TO PROVE ANY OF THE CLAIMS AND LIES HE'S MADE. IT'S INTERESTING THOUGH, THAT HE CAN PRODUCE THE DOCUMENTS THAT BENEFIT HIM. OH, AND BORAD AND I WERE NEVER FRIENDS. HE WAS A FRIEND OF MY LATE SON. BORAD AND I HAVE NOTHING IN COMMON. I AM A PERSON WITH HIGH INTEGRITY WITH 20 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN AEROSPACE ENGINEERING AS A QUALITY MANAGER, AND NEARLY 30 YEARS SERVICE IN THE U.S. MILITARY AS AN TECHNICAL EXPERT AND MAINTENANCE MANAGER IN NAVAL AVIATION. BORAD CAN'T COME CLOSE TO MATCHING THOSE CREDENTIALS. IT'S ALSO IMPORTANT TO KNOW THAT I AM 74 YEARS OLD, WHICH CLEARLY MEANS THIS FIASCO COULD BE CLASSIFIED AS A SENIOR SCAM. BORAD NEVER FINISHED THE JOB, ALTHOUGH HE WAS PAID IN FULL...AND THEN SOME. CAVEAT EMPTOR!! ALWAYS CHECK THE CONTRACTOR'S LICENSE INFORMATION BEFORE DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM.

Response from INLINE TILE AND STONE
This contractor started remodeling the bath without getting the proper city/county permits. After a couple days he told us he could make our kitchen much larger.( False, they asked me). We said "Ok" and he proceeded to demolish the kitchen and remodel it, also without the benefit of the required permits or plans. (NOTE: It is the contractor's responsibility to have plans drawn AND get permits prior to starting.) The contractor actually told us we didn't need permits. (This is a lie, Ric was told he needed the permits, He said not to get them and to move forward, my mistake for trying to help a friend). He never mentioned plans or change orders, both of which are required by the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB). (The CSLB has reviewed Ric’s false statements and determind that no restitution is owed to Ric). This contractor failed to provide a written contract for the kitchen remodel, and also failed to provide change orders for all the changes and "extra costs," about $10,000 worth. (false, Ric was given contracts and change orders. Who would pay out such a large sum of money with out them at least that’s what the CSLB said when reviewed). This contractor had "day workers" but did not carry worker's comp, which puts the property/project owner at risk. (This is true, I had a college friend help me for a day or so). This contractor did not install the required GFCI outlets in the kitchen; the GFCI outlet installed in the bathroom does not pass inspection (does not work properly). ( again to make Ric happy he asked us not to install the GFCI because he did not like them “there tempermental”). This contractor installed the water lines to the vanity sink and shower backwards, causing the hot water to be on the right and the cold water to be on the left. This also caused the shower temperature control manifold to fail, disabling the ability to adjust the water temperature. ( the lines were crossed in construction this only means that its backwards, It was also offered to be fixed). This contractor did not install shutoffs for the lavatory sink fixture. (this is true, and was also offered to be fixed). This contractor did not properly grout or seal the shower fixtures, allowing water to get into the wall behind the shower. ( Ric wanted to adjust these parts for tempreture control and asked to not caulk them). This contractor failed to complete "the job" by fixing the above discrepancies. ( Ric set a deadline that could not be reached for the repair. He became very nasty in our communication and I did not feel safe to enter his home for the repairs). This contractor changed the name of his business to "Inline Kitchen & Bath" but did not make the proper notification to the California Contractors State License Board. (False, check with the CSLB and you will see that the correct form was used and approved by the CSLB). Other items of workmanship: - Contractor allowed a new and inexperienced employee to install floor tile, many of which are not level with the adjacent tiles. (False, The tiles used were Travertine and vary in size from piece to piece and was also approved by the homeowner prior to install). - Contractor did not properly seal the floor tile. Sealer instructions stated the "multiple coats are required; contractor only put one coat. When questioned about this the contractor stated "You only paid for one coat."(False, one coat is all that was contracted and additional coats could be applied if the desired sheen was to be higher. One coat is a seal. Since I didn't have a written contract, it's difficult to determine what I paid for. (False contracts were given and signed by the homeowner). - Lack of plans caused the kitchen to be "off balance." The sink and window are not in the middle of the wall. In addition, the window is installed crooked, meaning that it is not level. (false). ( False, all subs were paid in full and NO liens were ever filed). - Contractor asked that a $29,000 payment be made with three separate checks.. This is a VIOLATION of FEDERAL LAW. (false, these checks were separate and for purchases for the homeowners materials at my contractor price. I did this to get the customer a contractor price thus saving him money and was not part of my accounting or contract). Check out this contractor's California CSLB page (License number 789209) to see the citations levied by the CSLB. ( This is true, you can go to the CSLB and see this. The homeowner has gone to great lenghts to tarnish a perfect reputation since 1999 that I have worked very hard to istablish and maintain all these years without one problem. I would add that because my computer crashed and I was unable to retrieve the contractual/change order data to fully support my case with the CSLB, now have to live with the results of Rics Statement. I would also add the NO restitution was awarded to the homeowner in this matter based on their findings with this case. I would also add that I have known Ric for many years as I was his son rickys friend. Ric’s son passed a few years ago so that’s how I know Ric. So as you would think I did everything possible to make him happy and get things for him and so on. Ric still owes me $3600.00 on the contract. I was trying to help a friend. And this is what it gets me. Share on Band of Neighbors: Yes

We live in Phoenix and own a condominium on Coronado. We contracted with Duane Borad (owner of Inline Tile and Stone) and couldn't be happier with the work he did for us. We originally planned to travel back and forth to monitor the renovation but it quickly became apparent that with Duane that would not be necessary. Duane was in communication with us every day and even sent pictures of the progress at the end of each day. He is an experienced contractor and advised and guided us on many issues or potential issues both related and unrelated to the work he was performing (the condominium building was built in 1969.) The quality of work was stellar and the condominium was spotless when he left. He promptly returned phone calls, texts, and emails. We highly recommend Duane and would contract with him again.
Description of Work: Removed tile and carpet and installed long planks of porcelain tile for 600 sq ft condominium. Removed existing baseboards and painted and installed 5 1/4 in wood baseboards. Installed new bathroom toilet, vanity, and cabinetry.
