They were excellent, and they were wonderful guys to work with. They were very professional. They gave me their estimate, it wasn't the lowest but considering the quality of their work, I think it was the best.

Ben was punctual and throughout the service call he was cheerful, friendly and informative and he was very patient in explaining the rather complex programming of the thermostat. I will certainly use Guthrie and Sons in the future to take care of regular furnace maintenance or any heating problems that may arise.

The entire experience was the kind you hope for when hiring contractors. They were punctual, pleasant, helpful, and very capable. We enjoyed having them in our home and are completely pleased with the help they gave us in deciding on the right central system for us and the work they did. We needed heating for a 1000 sq.ft. addition to our 1000 sq.ft. home, budgeted $6000 to have central heating installed for the total 2000 sq.ft. (saying goodbye to the wall heaters heating the original space), and confirmed with a couple estimates from reputable contractors that we could do this. We appreciated that Guthrie and Sons spent time understanding our home, explaining to us technologies now available, and offering high efficiency equipment and installation options because we now feel a $6000 heater would have been the wrong decision for us. We decided to have them install a $14,000 high efficiency heating and cooling system to be installed in 2 stages - first stage heating $9100, later stage cooling $4900. The system is a hybrid, a gas furnace and an electric heat pump, automatically deciding in winter based on outside temperature and your gas and electric rates which of the gas or electric is the cheaper heat source to use and using it (below something like 40 or 50 degrees F the heat pump is not efficient and the gas furnace becomes the better of the two). The price was more than twice our budget so we requested the job be split into two stages, but we plan on retiring in this house and are now very glad to know we will have a top quality central system with first class service that will suit us well for many years.

They were punctual and very thorough about looking at what they were going to do and gave me their evaluation of what they thought it took to do the work. The quote was very high compared to the second company I got, but I?m still looking into a third quote to see if the second company was off base. If I don?t use this company, I would look into them again because of the good reputation they have in the town.

I loved these guys, I want to adopt them. :) Seriously they were friendly and very professional and quite easy on the eyes -- not that that influenced me! They took great pains not to mess up my home. The new AC unit looks beautiful! They even promised to replace my air-intake vent when they come back for maintenance. The business is family owned and operated by the 3 brothers. Basically they matched my bid I'd already gotten from another A/C company highly rated here but sold me on their professionalism, small-operation attitude of caring about the customer and willingness to do a little extra, like double padding my outside unit and promising to fix my air-intake vent (which was poorly installed when the house was built).

Another company (Anderson's) had given us an estimate of $8500 to replace everything without mentioning the rebate program for the energy saver units.That price was for a non-energy saver with a good warrantee. Guthrie and Sons is a small company which I like a lot, I was always able to reach the owner who is also the person that did the estimate and did the work. He gave me great information about the heater they use and why they prefer it, such as that it is a US company and easy to get parts. They did a great job, were super nice and the price saved us $4000 after the rebate on the energy saving unit. It has a similar warrantee to the one from Anderson's plus will save her money on her heating bill. I always like using companies where the owners are involved with the work. Guthries (3 owners) spent a week here installing. Another 3.5 days fixing builder problems for which not strictly accountable at no further cost. Brought in factory rep. to check out all work. Highly responsive, will recommend to others.

The people at Guthrie and Sons are wonderful people. They are family owned and are very responsive. When I called, I had intended on only getting a high efficiency furnace installed, but they were convincing enough to install a dual fuel heat pump. In this way, we can change weather the system will run on electricity or gas, depending on the operating costs at the time. Guthrie and Sons said they will come out anytime to change this for us. Along with the government, SDG&E, and Trane rebates, along with working with the Guthrie sons, we were able to get a great system for a price comparable to a much lower HVAC system. They walked us through each rebate, and when one of the rebates wasn't showing us with the system they quoted us, they were able to get us a higher efficiency furnace that fell under the rebate at no extra cost to us. They came on time on the agreed upon date, and finished well before the end of the day. There were 3 of them working non-stop (except for a quick lunch). They were very clean and receptive to us and our questions. They helped us remove some bricks on our patio to accomodate the new system and put in new venting for the higher efficiency furnace. They also did a fine job of cleaning up and set up an appointment with us a month later to make sure everything was running smooth. The only complaint we have is that they did know the unit was not functioning fully until my husband pointed it out to them when they came back (the low stage fan wasn't turning on, it only went to high). This may be due to the fact that they do not usually install the system that we chose. They were able to resolve this issue. So far we are very happy with the system and would definitely recommend this company.

Two of the brothers came to give me an estimate and they spent a lot of time examining, explaining, giving options, and trying to get me a good price. I was very impressed with their professionalism, their expertise, and their honesty. I also like the fact that they were the ones who would do the work (as opposed to a salesperson on commission), so they really knew what they were talking about. I decided to go with them and they came with a week (they could have come sooner, but my schedule didn't allow it) and installed everything. All three of the brothers came and they worked steadily from 8:00 until about 2:30. The new ac unit was larger than the concrete slab, but they came up with a creative solution and didn't charge me for it. By the time they finished and had cleaned up, I think my garage was cleaner than when they started. Usually having people working in my small house all day means a rather uncomforable day, but that wasn't true with these guys. They were polite, considerate, and focused on getting the job done and really nice. Even my neighbor commented on how nice they were. Although their price seemed high, I knew I was getting quality units and workmanship. The price I paid included an Angie's List coupon for $500, but I will also get a $600 rebate from Trane as well as a $1500 tax credit.

The brothers arrived promptly as scheduled and did a very through inspection of the house. Then they gave a very slick presentation of the produce line they represented complete with lots of bells and whistles, i.e., computer demonstrations. They answered all of our questions fully and gave an estimate of the cost of the various levels of heat/air available. The cost was prohibitive for our budget.

I didn't know what was going on with my furnace. They explained everything to me very nicely and gave a good discount. They were terrific guys to work with, had a good price, and were able to set me up on a payment plan that is interest free for 16 months. I would definitely use them again.

Unk at this time - I have high expectations, though.

They were very professional and helpful. The only thing they didn't do that I would have appreciated was completing the inspection paperwork/process. They left that up to us (which, to be fair, they told us was their policy upfront) and we have not had time to complete it due to health issues in the family.

Their estimate was mid-range to the three we requested; we opted for Guthrie & Sons because of their obvious expertise and professionalism. The installation was smooth and quick. They checked and double-checked our unit prior to departure, made adjustments, and checked back to ensure our satisfaction. When a minor issue developed with our bill (we were accidentally charged twice), they were quick and responsive, rectifying the issue immediately and in writing both to us and to the credit card company. We were thoroughly impressed with Guthrie & Sons, their people, their skill, and the level of old-fashioned customer service that you only find at Nordstrom's these days. I would recommend them to anyone seeking truly quality work and products at a fair price.

Our old, inefficient heating and A/C system was a liability. Some rooms weren't being heated or cooled properly, it was incredibly loud when running, our air quality was poor, and water leaked out when the A/C was running. We wanted to replace the system with a greener, more efficient one that would heat and cool the house properly, run quietly and improve the air quality. The Guthrie brothers listened to what we wanted, inspected the existing equipment (including the attic ductwork), did a room-by-room evaluation of the house, then prepared two proposals: ?good? and ?best?. They explained how both proposals would meet our needs item by item, and described the additional benefits the ?best? one would provide. There was no hard sell, and no push for us to accept the more expensive proposal. We opted for the "best" proposal a few days later, and the Guthries started work within the week. It took them just a day and a half to remove the old system and replace it with the new one. They were friendly, professional and efficient, and performed the work to a very high standard indeed - no detail was too small. After we'd had the new system running for a couple of weeks, the Guthries returned to check that all was well, and make adjustments if necessary. We'd noticed that water from the compressor wasn't draining away from the house (not their fault), yet they fabricated and installed a custom drain - at no charge. Our overall experience was stellar. We're delighted with how everything works and we're using less energy. I can't recommend the Guthries highly enough.

The entire operation was as smooth as silk. Ben and Matt took several hours to evaluate our existing system, then offered multiple options and price points to resolve issues and improve heating. They even suggested relocating the heater to create more living space in the home. The 3 brothers were clean, prompt, courteous, humorous and efficient. The mini Ice Age we had been enduring in our home is now over!

The removal and installation was accomplished within the time frame that was given to us. They were extremely neat and the new furnace is great. They explained everything thoroughly.

They were prompt, honest, cooperative, and friendly during the whole operation. The company is owned by two brothers who do all the work. They were patient, kind, and super guys. Wouldn't hesitate to have them do any other work for me.

Both Ben and Matt Gutherie arrived for both their appointments in a timely manner and made their evaluations professionally. They returned a couple weeks later with a new Trane furnace and air cleaner and installed both in short order. Ben and Matt both proceeded with professionalism, competence, and politeness throughout the whole operation. They were done in a couple hours and explained exactly what they had done and what needed to be done on my part. We are very satisfied with the work done and have no qualms about recommending them to anyone else. They actually installed a new air stack at no additional charge.

The upstairs furnace works but is a Consolidated which has some defect issues that can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. Ben provided written information about these furnaces and their problems and suggested that we not use it. It should be replaced at some point. The downstairs furnace is going on 20 years old. After some clean up and adjustment, it is working fine. We will have it checked annually as it is nearing the end of its useful life. Ben was great at telling us exactly what we are facing and giving us options to consider. I would definitely use Guthrie and Sons again.

Guthrie and Sons came out to examine our old furnace and found a crack which rendered our furnace unsafe. They installed a new furnace and air filter and re-wrapped our old duct work. They were very courteous and did great work. I highly recommend them.

Everything went very well. They were very attentive and on time. It was a very extensive job, it was done in a crawl space in my home and they did a great job. They were not the cheapest of the three bids I received, but I received a top of the line Trane system and they included a 10 year warranty. They spent more time on the estimate, they came in my home, evaluated my needs and came up with a plan.

Matt was the 3rd or 4th company called for an appointment. He was the only one that would set a specific time to arrive, because of circumstances I needed a specific time and not a time range. Matt arrived on time and began checking out the system. The airflow was good, but the cooling and heating were not there. He was able to add coolant to get it running properly.

2008: Excellent job done! I researched 10 contractors and requested bids from 4. Guthrie & Sons stood out by far as the best! Extremely knowledgeable, cost competitive, on time/on budget, efficient, pleasant, polite, professional, and readily available. Work is done directly by the three brothers (all owners) - never employees or (horrors) sub-contractors. They provide a 100% satisfaction guarantee. My husband and I highly recommend them.
