When I used them, they showed me the poor installation that was done by the company that had originally installed my furnace and air conditioning system. I had a complicated engineering request since I have three heating zones in my house. They were eager to do the work even though it was hard. They ran into some technical problems, which frankly, I do not see how they could have foreseen. They did some re-engineering and figured it out. They got things working properly, which impressed me a lot. They were eager to explain and discuss things. I liked them very much.

Better than excellent! He possibly saved our lives by finding the propane leak in our attic.

The estimator, Joe, arrived promptly and was thorough, knowledgeable very helpful. and waited patiently for several days while I got two additional estimates. The system resulted in exactly the performance Joe promised: quiet (barely audible, like a very light rain) and produces remarkably uniform heating throughout the house (I followed up with installation of insulation, reported elsewhere). Was the price for the entire system the lowest of the 3 bids? No, but I was convinced that one of the other estimators was of dubious competence, and the furnace offered by the third contractor was of substantially lower quality (verified by Consumers Report) than the Trane I purchased from Guthrie. I would not hesitate to use Guthrie again, or to recommend them to friends.

They were great, they were like family, and we laughed for four days. They came in on budget, helped us on energy rebates, and they were clean. They were great.

It is great. Overall they get an A. I had nothing to compare price to so I will give them a B in price. I have already recommended them. I heard about them from Angie's List.

I had Guthrie and Sons give me an estimate for replacing a heater at one of my properties in Coronado. I contracted with them to do the work and I could not have been happier. They did an excellent job. They showed up on time and kept the home clean while they worked. I will definitely be working with them again in the future.

I was in the market for a Trane 2 stage furnace. I called several companies from Angie's List including Guthrie's. I was in somewhat of a rush to get it installed. My dealings were with Sara and I found her to be most helpful and professional in the several phone calls and emails. I did end up with another company due to their competitive pricing and excellent overall impression. Guthrie's were not able to send someone out for several days whereas other companies were there the day I called or the next day which made a difference to me.

Our 16 yr old furnace suddenly would not heat in response to a signal from the thermostat, usually at the coldest part of the evening. This problem continued even after I replaced the thermostat. Guthrie & Sons responded right on time on the scheduled repair date. Ben was very professional and quickly diagnosed a corroded burner flame sensor. He cleaned the sensor and checked for any other possible problems. He found nothing else of immediate concern, but informed us that two things may be a problem in the future - a vent fan case that was showing minor cracking, and a burner igniter that was showing its age in normal wear but was still functioning with no problem. He provided a DVD and printed information on possibilities for future heater/AC replacement given the age and lower efficiency rating of our current units compaired to those available today. Again, very professional with no high pressure sales pitch. As an added bonus he was very dog friendly and quickly became our pup's best friend that morning. For us Guthrie & Sons is a definate top candidate for consideration in any future furnace/AC repair or replacement.

They were great. They were on time and the appointment was good. The office staff was polite and good. They called back to set up the appointment. They were good.

I was very happy with Guthrie and Sons. I chose this company based on Angie's List reviews and background info I read about the company. This is a very well organized company with great customer service and the technician was very experienced, helpful, and honest. It cost $95 for a repair estimate, but that is subtracted from the repair cost if they actually do the work. I called them 11/9/11 because my furnace would not come on (had not been used for many months and did not respond at all to turning the thermostat way up). When I first called they were booked up until 11/18 early morning. When someone cancelled they called and I was able to schedule for several days earlier - it worked out great. Before someone even came out, the company advised me on the phone to check to make sure the furnace circuit breaker wasn't tripped so I wouldn't waste money and time if that was the only problem. Unfortunately none of circuit breakers were labeled furnace and we couldn’t figure out which one it was. Ben showed up right on time. He was able to quickly diagnose the problem and offered 2 possible solutions. The problem was a faulty (broken) door switch which prevented the current from reaching the electric ignition trigger. Since the furnace is 21 yrs old I decided to go with the cheaper and quicker option of having him wire around (bypass) the door switch rather than having him order and install a replacement switch (~$50 and more delay). He quickly fixed the problem and verified that the furnace was operating safely. Since I don't have carbon monoxide detectors he checked levels in the house with his hand-held device. He also gave me good advice about carbon monoxide detectors (pros and cons of diff types and costs). I also appreciated that Ben helped me identify the furnace circuit breaker using his instrument to detect the when the current stopped going to furnace while I flipped switches (the switch for the furnace was labeled “lights” – now it is finally properly labeled)! I am very happy with the price and quality of this company – I will hire them again next time there is a problem.

Matt arrived right on time, donned the hospital booties, and got right to work. My furnace is missing its filter rack for some reason, and this posed a problem for installing a filter properly. He put a lot of effort and thought into a creative solution, and in about 30 minutes, the problem was solved. Great service, great company.

The call to the company was handled by Sara Newman in a friendly fashion. The sales associaste Joseph Patrick came to see us two days later and gave us a fair presentation answering all our questions. He was most courteous and professional. After we thought about it and compared it to the other four offers we had received, we decided to utilize their services. What influenced also was the fact that they were highly rated on Angie's List. They were not the cheapest (they were next to cheapest) but my wife and I felt most comfortable with them. The arranged date had to be delayed due to injury to Andrew, the installer, but only by a week. On the day of installation, Andrew and Joseph installed it competently and completely. I recommend Guthrie without reservation

A/C unit wasn't cooling effectively after a few years of neglect from renting the house. Ben arrived on time and did a thorough inspection. After finding the problem, he explained it to me clearly and gave me a quote to replace the part. The office contacted me shortly after and we scheduled a day and time for the service. Service completed on time, on budget, and now works perfectly. I should also note that the unit which contained the bad part was squeezed into a very tight spot in a very tight attic. No extra charge for what must have been some back-wrenching work. I highly recommend this company.

It was a huge mess. It started out just as touch work and they got in there. It was a great thing to redo the duct thing. Those two guys got in there as rats had got into the duct work. They had got into the furnace and the A/c. It was nasty. They took out like a half dozen bed rats. So we ended up replacing the furnace and putting in a heat pump. It ended up being a pretty big job and they did a fabulous job at it. I got them from Angie’s List. They worked really hard in maintaining good communication with us. They definitely knew when they gave the estimate that there was that much damage. I didn’t feel that they were at the instincts or anything like that. They seemed to be very honest and very attentive. The people knew what was wrong and were very sympathetic and made the most of the situation.

Overall...this company was thorough and professional...they even sent a bio of the tech coming out prior to the appointment and followed up with a curtesy call to verifiy the appt...they were excellent

Ben was on time, respectful, professional. I did feel the cost was a bit high for his being here less than an hour, and I also wish he had worn booties on his shoes when he came down from the roof. Other than that, I liked him and have scheduled Guthrie to give me an estimate on the cost of the air conditioner replacement. I would use Guthrie again and may, depending on how their estimate compares to the two others I am getting for the air conditioner replacement!

Incredible family owned company!!! I was very pleased with the quality of the workmanship, professionalism and customer service that I received. Matt was great giving me a number of options for my new AC/Heater installation and never acted as if I was bothering him when I had to call him back several times to answer questions I had. Sara was always kind and considerate on the phone, always answering questions as needed. Andrew and Bowen were very respectful not to mess my home up during the installation. Both of them are dog friendly which made my dog very happy because he got lots of attention which he loved. The AC is working great and I am grateful I found a company that is honest, reliable, professional and family oriented. One last thought.. .I found out that this family owned business is made up of several Veterans. All I can say is thank you for serving our country!!! I would HIGHLY recommend this company.

My air conditioner was not cooling. Called and spoke with Sarah [who was a very sweet gal] to set the appointment. Ben Guthrie came out to diagnose the problem. With in a matter of minutes he was able to determine a freon leak. He gave me 3 options and I was able to make an educated choice on which one I was comfortable with. He was very professional, efficient, tidy and I love the booties he wore in my house. He answered all of my questions and I felt comfortable in my choice of options. I also felt the fee was fair. I definitely would use Guthrie again and have already recommended to a family member.

Our home was built in 1990 and had the original AC unit (Trane), which was still working, but we wanted to be preventative and replace "the dinosaur". After meeting with 3 different companies we decided on Guthrie & Sons because of their presentation, price, and excellent ratings. Matt came to our home initially and discussed our needs with us. He was very thorough (even performed an AC tonnage test) and informative. Our office contact was Sarah who was most pleasant and helpful each and every time we called. Bowen and Andrew installed our condenser outside and did a great job. Bowen did the bulk of work in the attic and discovered our air ducts were not only dirty, but had some mold inside. We were so relieved to find out a product was available to install on the HVAC system that would remove the mold in about 2 weeks. The alternative would have been to replace the air ducts...something we did not want to do. This company went above and beyond to make our experience with them very positive. We highly recommend them!

From talking to Wes and Sarah in the office to working with Ben and Matt out at the house, all are very professional but you feel like they rally care about you and want to do the best job for you they can. Initially I had them replace 2 furnace units last August and then one of my A/C units needed to be replaced this year so I called them immediatley to do the work. They worked with me on the most economical unit since I'm renting out or selling my house and they were able to get the work done realtively quickly.

They did a real good job and met our expectations. They were professional. I got what I planned for.

Ben -- one of the owners of the company -- gave a call shortly before he was supposed to show up to let me know he was running about a half an hour behind. Showed up exactly 30 minutes later. After I described the problems, Ben quickly went to work. He had the furnace issue resolved within ten minutes. The air conditioner problem was resolved after another ten minutes or so. He also helped with balancing air flow between all the rooms upstairs. We've never had good air flow to our master bathroom, but his changes helped to improve that. It's still not 100% and we won't know for sure until the next major cold snap, but it definitely is improved. Ben also talked about their annual maintenance plans and reasons why he didn't want to perform the maintenance on the air conditioners just yet. Basically, he felt it wasn't warm enough for him to get a good, accurate reading while tuning the air conditioners. So, he suggested to defer that until the temps start going up again. He also talked about options for the future, both with the current equipment and if/when the air conditioners and furnaces need to be replaced. All in all, Ben presented himself and his company very well. Very punctual and quick to determine the problems with our system. Gave us plenty of good recommendations for now and in the future. We'll definitely continue to use Guthrie & Sons for all our HVAC needs!

Removed ineffective unit and replaced with more expensive unit that did work well, charging only difference in cost (same as if had started with best unit technically.) I am somewhat demanding and the family running the business all work with me, unlike some contractor one-unit-fits-all attitudes or ignoring customers. They travel distances beyond expected service base at no extra cost, what more can I say to recommend.
