I had to cut some holes in the ceiling to install a ceiling fan. In the process I discovered a thick layer of dryer lint in the space between the ceiling and next floor. The dryer vent hose was completely discontented and hot moist lint was venting directly into the ceiling. I called Zach yesterday morning, he was there at 6pm that night as promised. Reconnected the duct so it would not slip again, vacuumed it out. The vent outlet is on the roof and was completely clogged. He climbed out and removed about 6" of compacted lint and cleaned it out. Plus my dog chewed up his head lamp and Zach was very nice about it. The price was very reasonable (under $175), very responsive and fixed all my problems!

Zach phoned and said he would be at the house as noon and that is exactly when he showed up. We talked about the problem of the compressor always staying on and he checked the whole system. We discussed new systems, but he was honest and said if it is not broken, no need to fix it. If the house gets cool quick, then the system is operating. Issue was a stuck connector, just needed to tap it and it was free. Compressor turns on and off. Just for diagnostic purposes, Zach tested the regrigerant level and turns out I only need a little charge which he supplied in 10 minutes and the whole process was complete. My A/C was running again within 30 minutes with a fresh charge. When it comes time to replace the A/C, I will use this companry. Very honest, upfront and quick service.

I couldn't be happier with this company. All of the people I had contact with were professional and knowledgeable. I called and got a prompt appointment. Joe was on time, polite and professional and listened to what I needed to have done. He found a solution for us that was spot on. We had a new AC unit installed (ours was quiet old and very loud.) The new one is like a whisper compared to the old. We also wanted the unit moved to the side of the house since we just had the yard recently landscaped and wanted the AC unit out of sight. The guys came on time and got strait to work. They did a great job and cleaned up well. They even came back promptly and fixed one area on the outside of the house that I had a small concern about, without any hassle. We're very happy with the quality of work and professionalism of the company and we love our new AC and accessories. The UV filter amazing, my husbands allergies are much improved.

Our furnace kept cycling the pre-ignition purge fan (inducer) on and off, and then would go into shut down mode. We contacted Guthrie and Sons due to there excellent reviews and ratings found here on Angie's List. Shortly after making the service appointment, i received an email with Ben Guthrie's Bio page and his photo. Very nice added touch. We knew exactly who was going to show up. The day of service, Ben called to let us know he was on his way, and showed up exactly as promised, introduced himself and showed his ID. He checked the thermostat, which was just fine. He then climbed into the attic to check the furnace and found the inducer housing cracked in several places, and found the gas valve to be faulty, not allowing it to open Ben showed me the cracks in the inducer housing, which explained the extra noise we had been hearing, and explained why the gas valve wasn't working. After replacing the gas valve and inducer motor & houseing, he tested the system.and reported all checks ok and the unit was now operating normally. Ben was very professional, courteous and informative. We will definitely be contacting them again if we have further issues with our heating or air conditioning

Excellent job at laying out alternatives, but did not supply details of final pricing. So, how much were their profits and how much was actual cost of materials? Not complaining about price, per se, because I did want the most efficient, cleanest furnaces, and I knew that would be pricey. Excellent at installations--very pleasant, very professional. Good cleanup. Thermostat did not work intiailly (missing a software upgrade from manufacturer, so not really their fault); they were responsive about fixing it once the software was available. Main complaint is that this job probably required a permit, but they never brought it up. I thought reputable contractors were supposed to do that? To some extent, it was my responsibility to know about, too. While I don't doubt that they did a good job, and all is well, it does make me suspicious that they might take other shortcuts.

They were good, they did a very good job, very clean, considerate, prompt, and all of those things.

Guthrie and Sons was something of a savior for me. We had had a new furnace put in by a different company a year or so prior, and wanted to upgrade to zone heating, so we got a variety of bids. Every bidder said that the prior job was done entirely incorrectly and that half of our hot air was leaking into the attic. Guthrie and Sons was the most knowledgeable about zone heating, the most confident that they could get it to work, and very competitive price-wise. There were a couple of hiccups, because what they were doing was technically difficult, especially since the furnace was not variable speed. However, any time they had to come and make adjustments, there was no charge. This system has saved me at least half on my gas bill. Matt Guthrie, in particular, was amazingly engaging, smart, and capable. He showed real concern and interest. When we recently started having difficulties with the furnace turning on, he spend a couple of hours going step by step by step to diagnose the problem, and finally figured out the control board on the original furnace was faulty. Requests to turn on the gas and ignite were intermittently failing. And anyone who works with electronics knows how hard and frustrating it is to deal with intermittent problems. I just can't overstate how pleased I am with the work of this company, their depth of guarantee (better than any other HVAC company that I have interacted with), and their personal yet professional interactions. Highly recommended.

They came out to do a tune up the first time. The second time they came out to do a repair. They were timely, had good pricing, and explained things very well. They are family owned, so it felt very nice.

They are very good. They have always done a good job with the work. They are the only ones I have used the service.

They were nice but in the end they could not do financing for us which is why we went with someone else.

I had used this company years ago to install a Trane furnace. Although expensive, I thought they had done a good job, so I recently called them to install a Trane A/C. Matt, the sales person came very cordial as always, and gave me an estimate of $4500. 15 minutes later the price had gone up $200 without explanation, to $4700. In addition I was told that I would need a contract service with them for a yearly check up if I wanted to keep the system's warranty. I contacted Airplus, another Trane instaler. They told me that the need for a service contract with them (it ended up not being true) . They gave me a price $300 lower and did a great job (no negotiations involved). When the sales person (Matt) contacted me again I told him that I the job was already done. He got clearly upset, almost aggressive, raised his voice and told me that for doing that I had rescinded the warranty of the furnace (not true either). Next day, out of the blue I got a city inspector to check my installation, the G&S G&S sales person sent him in revenge! To make matters worst, The new installer told me that the furnace had not been properly installed in the first place. I wasnt happy with how noise it was. they re-installed the furnace too and I cant believe how much quieter it is now, I am really happy with the system. In summary, after my second interaction with them, the guys in the field are knowledgeable and friendly, it is just that got greedy and the salesman is far too aggressive. I honestly thing that the furnace installation problem was a one time mistake, but that is not acceptable form a company that wants you top dollars. The problem with that company is the sales guy, he is a lunatic so watch out

The thermostat on my heating system was not working and I called and scheduled an appointment to have them replace. The scheduled me but over the phone, they suggested before they came out that I might want to try first to replace the batteries and they told me how to do it. They said this often takes care of it and they didn't want to charge me for a service call if that was all it was. I replaced the batteries and the thermostat worked fine. I cancelled the appointment and didn't pay anything. I think a business like that truly serves customers and I will gladly use them again.

I actually called late at night and they have an answering service that took my call. The business returned my call the next morning and we scheduled an appointment for a few days later. It turns out rats had eaten through some wiring in my outdoor compressor unit. I was able to fix it myself and did not need their services. However, they were very prompt and professional and I will use them in the future. My mother and brother are a realtor and broker business and they use them all the time with great service.

After reading reviews on Angie's List and when they came out, they were very informative and professional. It's a family run business. I will be using them in the future to install a new air conditioning unit at my house.

The did the repair while I was at work. He was able to fix the issue the same day that I called.

I had an issue with even distribution of airflow from my HVAC system. I received three estimates from three companies and Guthrie & Sons was the only one that did not try to unnecessarily redo my entire system. I felt like they were honest and considerate of my financial situation. The only issue I had with their work is while they were crawling in the attic they slightly dislodged one of my recessed kitchen lights. Not a big deal though and certainly unintentional. I don't think they noticed so I won't t hold this against them. Overall, it was a pleasurable experience to work with them and I highly recommend.

This was an offer by Angie's list for a furnace cleaning at half price. The person cleaned the furnace but pointed out that the ductwork was coming apart. The price didn't include any repairs, and I had to get someone else to do them; they also missed one of the places where the ductwork had come apart.

.I called early on a Monday morning when I realized I had a problem. The receptionist was extremely efficient in collecting information about the size of my home and asking for multiple contact information (i.e. cell phone # and email in addition to home phone). Because this is a busy time of year, I was unable to have anyone come out for two days. We scheduled a day/time and the night before I was contacted again to confirm the appointment. In the meantime, I received an email thanking me for my business.The email also contained several attachments explaining the history and character of the business, the policies of the business, and a listing of some of the products sold by the business. On the appointed date, Matt arrived on time, quickly assessed the problem and offered two options for a part (one less expensive with a shorter warrantee). I opted for the more expensive model with the longer warrantee. The part was installed, checked to see that it worked properly. We discussed options for eventual replacement of the furnace. Cleanup was exceptional and he put on and removed protective booties over his shoes every time he entered and left the house. Matt was cheerful, personable, and accommodating. The entire experience was very positive and I would definitely use this company again. By the way, I had first called a larger company on the list, which never returned my call, so I was happy to provide the business to this smaller, but obviously more responsive business.

Was extremely impressed with this company from the first phone call with Jess (hope that's the right name) to the meeting with Joe to the follow up phone call from one of the owners. Everyone was very friendly but professional. Joe was very considerate of our home as he did his walk through, even covering his shoes. Our furnace had died over the summer and we needed a complete replacement (our furnace was probably over 40 years old). We were also considering adding air conditioning. Joe explained a variety of options for us at different price points. He explained everything and answered all our questions. Written estimate provided was clear and detailed. The only reason we didn't choose them was we were offered certain benefits by having the work done with a competitor associated with one of the warehouse chains. I would recommend them to anyone who would ask.

The service turned out great. He did not try to up-sell up. I knew we were going to need to install a new unit and I know that what they tell me is accurate. They are courteous and professional. They put booty’s on when they came in the house and everything turned out very well. They provide excellent service.

Everything went well. The technician arrived on time, clean and ready to do business. Service was completed quickly and with a professional attitude.

The technician, Ben, was professional and did a thorough job with the furnace inspection. He replaced the filter and provided us with a maintenance checklist detailing everything he'd inspected. We were pleased with the experience. When we began experiencing problems with our AC unit in the summer of 2012, we called Guthrie and Sons. Unfortunately, they were booked solid because of the heat wave, and so we had another company do a service call. The other company told us that we'd likely need to replace the compressor or the whole AC unit. We again called Guthrie and Sons to give us estimates for replacing the compressor or the entire unit. Joe Patrick came out and was both personable and professional. He provided a thorough estimate with costs similar to those from other companies. He also responded promptly to questions that I subsequently emailed to him. We ultimately decided to put off replacing the AC unit; however, we would continue to consider Guthrie and Sons for our future HVAC needs.

I contacted them in the afternoon and they came out the next morning and told me what the problem was and how to fix it.
