We had a leak under our kitchen sink, which had caused water damage to the surrounding woodwork and drywall. We had the great plumbing team at Black Mountain Plumbing come out to fix the leak (see related plumbing review), and they recommended we have Gold Coast come out and assess the water damage. Gold Coast promptly sent a team over that same day, at a time when my husband was not able to be present. The initial assessment was alarming (first question, "what is your homeowner's deductible?," followed by, "the insurance probably won't cover this anyway due to homeowner's negligence," or something like that). Realizing we were possibly looking at a way bigger job/expense than I had been led to believe, I told the original Gold Coast team that my husband needed to be present before we could make any decisions about how to proceed. One of the young men on the original team was quite an alarmist and did not seem to be listening about my concerns relating to my husband needing to be here. While he was telling me he needed to cut holes throughout the area for mold testing or some such thing, the other team member, a great young man named Ryan, quietly slipped outside and called his boss. When Ryan came back, he said he had just talked to Joe, and was told they could leave a dehumidifier to run over the weekend and tape up areas where mold was suspected, then come back on Monday so my husband could be here and speak with them. I was extremely grateful to Ryan for this intervention, as I had felt like my concerns were being ignored in favor a a "hard sell" approach by the other guy, who was very excitable to put it mildly. Thank you so much, Ryan, and also Mr. Columbo (the boss)!! After the first Gold Coast team left, I called Mike at the Gold Coast office and said I had loved Ryan, but that the other young man's approach would not play well with my husband. Mike was extremely gracious and kind. He completely understood my concerns, and offered to send Ryan and another man, Pat, back early Monday morning so my husband could talk with them. Mike told me Pat would be a good personality fit for my husband, and he was right! Mike even scheduled us for an extra early 7 AM appt. to accommodate my husband's schedule, he did not charge us for the weekend rental of the Gold Coast dehumidifier, either--thank you so much, Mike!! On Monday 1/21, Ryan and Pat showed up promptly at 7AM and spoke extensively to my husband. They were very professional and courteous, and explained their concerns about possible mold growth, etc. Now, this is no reflection on Gold Coast, whatsoever, they are great, but we happen to think the current great mold scare is completely overblown. (I grew up in the midwest where many people have damp basements, including my family, that are breeding grounds for mold--it could never be completely eradicated no matter what you did. Still, my siblings and I were healthy kids, and have survived into our 50s. I know my late Dad would laugh his head off if he could hear what people are now charging to get rid of mold, and say, "There's a sucker born every minute!") But, back to my story. We told Pat and Ryan we were not too worried about mold, but did want all the water damage repaired and replaced and could they work with us on that project? Pat very courteously called his Office, but was told that no, Gold Coast did not want to do the repair job unless we also were going to go along with all the mold recommendations. We were sorry we could not use them, as we liked Pat and Ryan very much, and Gold Cost is definitely a reputable company. They were kind enough to let us rent their dehumidifier for another day (for $100) after not charging us for the previous weekend. If we ever have the type of damage that requires us to go through our homeowners insurance (hopefully not), but if we do, I will call Gold Coast back without hesitation, and ask for Ryan and Pat. Thank you all very much!!!
Description of Work: Kudos to Ryan, Pat and the Great Gold Coast Management Team; Thank you!

water heater repair
  + -1 more
Exacly at 10 am the next day, I received a phone call that they were outside the house and was I ready to have them come in. Two men thoroughly inspected the area and used a water sensor on the plaster board of the hot water heater platform as well as on the adjacent wall. They found no sign of moisture in the adjacent wall, but did find some residual moisture in the plasterboard of the platform. They told me that mold could grow inside that enclosure if not dried out. I asked them if they could cut a hole in the sidewall of the platform so that I could direct my fan and heater inside the area to finish out the drying process myself. One of the men cut a very neat hole about 6 inches by 6 inches and saved the piece plasterboard which was removed so that it could be replaced later thus making the repair job very easy for me once I was sure the drying process was complete. They also checked another area inside the house where I had a refrigerator leak a year ago and wanted to be sure there was no moisture in the adjacent wall or possible mold. They found no sign of moisture or mold on the surface of the wall, but did find a tiny bit of surface mold on a cabinet shelf in the area not adjacent to the wall. On this they used a special cleaning agent to remove it. There was no evidence of additional mold anywhere in that area. When finished, I asked what I owed them and they said "nothing" since I was an Angie's List member but to call them again if I had another problem. These men were very professional and allayed my fears, and I would not hesitate to use them in the future if I had a more serious water leakage problem.
Description of Work: I had a water heater leak in the garage that soaked through the plaster board of the platform on which it was standing. I did not know if the water seeped into the adjacent wall leading into the house. I used a space heater and fan for several days, but it did not seem to get the area totally dry. I began reading about mold formation that could take place within walls if moisture remained. At 4 pm I called Gold Coast and talked to the CEO, Joe Palumbo. I told him I was concerned that mold might be forming as a result of the leak and could they come out soon. Joe said that the next day was a busy day for them, but he could squeeze me in between 10 and 12. I told him I heard about his company from Angie's List and he told me that there would then be no charge for the inspection.

The service was wonderful! They showed up within two hours after I called. Beyond what they were actually supposed to get done, they were so incredibly nice to my dog and were so polite, helpful, and did things that they didn’t have to. They also put a covering over everything to contain the mess. They did an excellent job! After they were done, they came out three or four more times to make sure everything was done right.

The service went really well overall! They were the second company we contacted to get an estimate from. They walked us through their estimate and the work process very clearly. They had a more competitive bid than the other company. Once they came out to do the work, the crew was quick, professional, and got the job done. They provided an itemized invoice for our insurance company right away!

The last thing I needed was ANOTHER water leak - are you kidding me? My water heater was leaking into my bathroom and once again I began to feel my neck and back tighten. My throat closed and my hands moistened and I began to hyperventilate. You see, I have POST TRAUMATIC HOUSE DISORDER (PTHD). When I first called GOLD COAST FLOOD RESTORATIONS I immediately informed them of my many previous home repair experiences that contributed to my justifiable condition. I shared my fear that I couldn't: 1) trust any contractor to tell me the truth; 2) believe the price they quoted me; 3) count on the completion date they promised; 4) expect them not to find something bigger and better to fix that was NOT on the list and of course would cost more; and 5) not leave a mess. I was assured that GOLD COAST would absolutely change my opinion about contractors - and THEY DID!!!!!!!!!! GOLD COAST arrived on time, quoted me a price, worked with two other plumbing companies as well as my insurance company . They recommended a dry-waller (who was also awesome) and from beginning, to middle to end were professional, kind, patient, trustworthy, timely, neat and clean and they KEPT THIER PRICE the same despite finding one more thing. :) I recommend them with NO RESERVATION! Look no further- HIRE THEM! Take it from a homeowner with a serious case of PTHD - GOLD COAST is the company you want. THANK YOU GOLD COAST for EVERYTHING!!!! and... I hope you don't mind me saying that I hope I never see you again. :) All the best,

The shower drain from my master bath became detached from the drainpipe, resulting in a shower's worth of water ending up in my garage ceiling. After the drain was repaired, I called Gold Coast restorations to take a look at the damage. They were there almost first thing Monday (the first weekday - I didn't want to be charged weekend rates). David was very upfront and gave me various options - either renting the equipment and removing the water-logged insulation myself (they would still set up the two blowers and dehumidifiers), or letting them do everything for an extra $500. Being short on time, I opted to let them do everything. David and Tony were thoroughly professional, friendly, and got the job done. One of the airducts attached to a dehumidifier became detached the first night, but with a call to Gold Coast, someone came out immediately to fix that small mishap. After three days of drying - all done; couldn't be happier with the results.

Kurt came out the very next day after I called about smelling a musty smell in my kitchen. They did some testing and found that there was moisture left over from an old leak that had been repaired and that the moisture had seeped into the particle board frame around the sink and under the cabinets. We quickly received a quote which and they got to work the following day. They blocked off the area to be serviced and left and air purifier to scrub the air. They removed all the damaged material. My biggest concern was that the granite counter tops would break/crack once the damaged structure under them was removed, but they braced everything so well that it was kept in tact. All remaining surfaces were cleaned and disinfected. Every member of their team that worked on this project was professional and courteous. If ever I have the need for such services again I will call these guys in an instant. They were fantastic! :)

I was really impressed by how responsive Gold Coast was. From my first email inquiry to getting me an estimate, they were quick, punctual, totally professional, and a pleasure to work with. They also extended a discount for services and a courtesy free inspection to us as Angie's List members, which was appreciated. We ended up using another company that our management company initially sent because their estimate was lower, but I seriously considered Gold Coast because they were more on top of things in terms of responsiveness.

First contact was with Joe Colombo. Joe was quick to respond to my inquiry, and was very responsive to my questions. It was a big job since it involved the entire downstairs of a house that had flooded and sat for some time. There was visible mold growing in most rooms. I got bids from several other contractors. Gold Coast was not the highest and not the lowest. Joe worked with me a little on it, and I was satisfied that they would get the job done right. The gold coast crew was great. The showed up everyday, did a good job working; cleaned up as they went and hauled everything away everyday. I asked all the neighbors to call me immediately if they had any problems; never heard a word from anybody. Gold coast did not rush through the job, they took their time and did it right, which gets marks in my book since I suspect there was more work involved than they anticipated. I never heard the words "change order" once, which was refreshing. After two weeks, I had the independent 3rd party tester come in; she inspected and took air samples for the lab. Everything passed with flying colors. Now on to putting it all back together. I hope to never have to deal with water damage again, but if I do, Gold Coast will be my first call.
Description of Work: The services performed were demolition and mold remediation. The 1800 square foot house had flooded severely and sat wet for a long unknown period of time. Gold coast removed drywall, cabinets, flooring etc.. that had been damaged and/or were showing signs of mold growth. They then scrubbed down and treated the framing and other surfaces and dried the structure out with a combination of dehumidifiers and air filters. They would scrub and treat the surfaces day after day until the job was complete. It passed mold testing (by an independent 3rd party) on the first try. Good job.

They were on time for every appt, completed their work efficiently, quickly and without any added disruption to the mess we already have. David answered all my questions and explained what was happening and why. He also helped me with what I should expect while communication with our homeowners insurance. It really was helpful to have that information. I am not easy to please when it comes to vendors. I was very pleased with their service and would confidently recommend them...hope I don't have to use them again, but at least I have their info now :).
Description of Work: Gold Coast was called out by our plumber, Black Mountain Plumbing, for water damage in our half bath due to a slab leak. They tested for moisture damage. Based on their discovery they advised me there was minimal water damage and it would be necessary to remove the wood flooring in our bathroom. Although the water did barely reach the baseboard and cabinet toe kick, they determined that by removing just those pieces and using the dehumidifying machine that the problem could be solved without any other "demolition" or cutting of drywall. They came back to check the status of the dry out on day 2, determined one more day of drying was necessary and that was it. In, out and done!

Joe came over with 2 other employees. They inspected the home by taking humidity readings, checked to see if the walls were damp and no mold was visibly seen or found. We had a number of people come out to provide us estimates but Mike's quote seemed to be the most reasonable without any unnecessary extras. They started the job as promised, made every effort to ensure that the area was contained since mold was present. His crew ensured that all work including reconstruction was done in a contained area as to not spread any dust into the house. The quality of their work was excellent and his crew was very friendly and took the time to answer any questions or concerns we had during the process. I had an independent Mold Inspection company come out and there were no issues with the lab results. I would certainly use them again if the need arises which I hope it never does again.

We had a flood in our upstairs bathroom. Gold Coast Flood Restorations responded very quickly and seemed very knowledgeable. They took care of the flood problem and brought in the equipment quickly to dry the upstairs floor and downstairs ceiling and walls. We have had no problems with mold and it has been almost 8 months. The rental price of the equipment seems a little expensive, especially since we had to pay for the electricity to run the fans and dehumidifiers, but that may be standard. Overall, we had an excellent experience and I would use them again.
Description of Work: Gold Coast Flood Restorations came to our house the day after we contacted them, as scheduled. They were prompt. They walked through the flooded area testing walls, floors, cupboards, and ceilings for moisture. After we signed their estimate, they started working. They removed damaged/wet baseboards and insulation, ventilated walls and ceilings, and removed the toekicks for cabinets that had been flooded. They brought in the fans and dehumidifiers and let them run for several days. They contacted us about coming over to test for moisture and would remove fans and dehumidifiers as things dried out. They were always pleasant, professional, kept the mess to a minimum, and cleaned up after themselves.

Joe and his team were phenomenal! Not only did the tackle the enormous job with the utmost professionalism and perseverance; they came in under budget and ahead of schedule. The post-testing cleared on the first test. Everyone contacted in this case, said it was the biggest and most difficult remediation project they'd ever seen. Joe and his team handled every aspect of the project with professionalism and efficiency. I would give him my highest recommendation to handle any project, he will get the job done!
Description of Work: At my rental property, the tenant noticed mold coming from several areas of the home. After contacting several contractors to assess the situation is was found that mold was growing under the entire house, due to previous owners sealing the vents around the entire house. All the contractors contacted said it was the "worst" case they'd ever seen. The entire understructure had to be cleaned and treated as well as the inside of the house as it was in the sub floor and up the walls.

They had a problem with the plumbers the time before that. The plumbers installed a toto toilet and the handle broke off. The water was all over the place and they came in and dried out all the wooden cupboards in the bathroom. The plumbers paid for that. My experience with Gold Coast was good. For me the most important thing is honesty and integrity. When they came out the second time and didn't charge me, I was a little taken back. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Gold Coast Flood Restorations came out 3 years ago to check if there was any moisture. We had some water come through the roof and I wasn't sure if it was still wet in there.
