Initially visited and made recommendations after we said what we were planning. We were thinking of going with a stain but their expertise said natural would look great and wear well (this was a less expensive alternative). Had some cupping issues that they fixed the day before they started sanding (was included in the cost - some contractors charged extra for this). Work went smoothly and they were finished in two days as they had stated. Floor looks great. Service people suggested we contact them in about 5 years to see how the floor is wearing as they don't think it would take another sanding. At that stage they could add another coat of urethane if needed. We have a large dog otherwise they said the floor would be good for 10 - 15 years.
Everything went exactly as they described it would go. At our request, they delivered base boards a few days early so we would have time to prime & paint them (saves a little money). Also, when the technician found himself backed up at an earlier job, he worked late and came back on a Saturday to ensure our job was finished on time.
Description of Work: Leveled off concrete slab and installed floating bamboo floor in huge master bedroom.

In January 2012, I hired Geneva flooring to refinish about 800 square feet of Kahrs maple flooring in my home. My main reason for hiring Geneva was because they agreed to use a zero-VOC product that I'd selected. Due to a variety of factors, the finish still hadn't dried after two weeks. Geneva offered me a discount on re-sanding, and they applied Rubio Monocoat oil--a different zero-VOC product that they had used on other floors. The results were mediocre at best, but I couldn't afford to have the floors re-finished a third time. Fast forward 18 months. Bob Schraer of BSA Flooring comes to my home to do a quote for carpeting. He asks if I want a quote to refinish the floors as well. After I explained the situation, he advised me to contact Geneva Flooring. Judy from Geneva came out to inspect the floors and offered to re-do them at no charge. A few months later, Steve from Geneva completed the work in one day, and the results were outstanding! In my experience, Geneva Flooring and BSA Flooring are true professionals.
Description of Work: I first hired Geneva Flooring in January 2012 to refinish the Kahrs hardwood flooring in my home. The job had to be re-done, and Geneva completed the redo in December 2013.
Great job overall. Working with Judy was a true pleasure. She took a lot of time and helped us pick out some really nice hardwood flooring and carpeting. She went over every detail regarding the installation process so there were no surprises. As the installation date approached I kept having to delay and reschedule due to a series of unexpected repairs that had to be done in the property. Judy was really flexible and understanding and was able to get the work done according to my ever changing timetable. It was a real life saver because otherwise we would not have gotten everything done in time. The installers were professional and courteous. They answered all my questions and only minor issues came up which they addressed to my satisfaction. They came back to do a little touch up work and the floors look beautiful. We are very happy. I would definitely use Geneva Flooring again. It was a great experience to work with them.
Description of Work: Removal of old carpet, installation of hardwood flooring, carpet and baseboards.
Professional, prompt and a pleasure to do business with! I selected this woman-owned business because I wanted some one to thoroughly explain the pros and cons of different types of wood flooring - hardwood, engineered hardwood, laminate, luxury vinyl. Judy, the owner, spent time explained each to me. The store in Miramar has a HUGE selection, but once Judy saw what I liked, she was able to guide me to those floors that would be appropriate for my home. I selected a high-grade laminate. The scheduling worked perfectly, the installers were really good. When I wasn't happy with a detail at a door threshold, the installer came up with a great solution. The final job looks fabulous. I recommend Geneva Flooring without hesitation.
Description of Work: Removed all existing flooring materials for entire home (1600 sq ft +), leveled concrete, installed wood laminate with underlayment through out. Provided new base molding and installed it.

Recently I moved to San Diego from New York. For the reason, I had to do my search for professional hardwood flooring companies through Angie?s List. I contacted a few companies in the list, and found a couple of attractive ones for the work. Geneva Flooring was one of the companies we liked. So, we visited Geneva Flooring in August, and met Judy for discussing about the work. She was very helpful for the selection of hardwood material we need. Subsequently, she visited us and measured the floor sizes and bathroom sizes for the estimate. She sent me the itemized, detailed estimate by emailing, which was much more detailed by any other companies. In that way, we were able to discuss about each item, and leaned about any options available for each item. Specially, we like the itemized estimate a lot. For example, the material and labor were separated, and also, the labor was itemized into many different steps of work. This makes everything more or less transparent. The customer can trust about what they are paying for. The estimate was reasonable and comfortable to us. So, I accepted the proposal. The tile work in both bathrooms started first in early September since the engineered hardwood has not arrived until the end of August. While the crew completed the tile work for both bathrooms and laundry room, other crew removed carpets in the other areas, and leveled off the cement floor by grinding or covering additional layers of cement to the floor. The floor work has done professionally and neatly in a week and half. The tile work and floor work were satisfactory. Whenever I see anything that didn?t look right, I discussed with Judy. She was trying to provide the best customer service. From my experience, I recommend that anyone who is looking for a good hardwood flooring company first contacts Judy or Lisa at Geneva Flooring.
Description of Work: The Geneva crew removed all the carpets from the entire floors – three bedrooms, living room and two bathrooms. They placed tiles in the bathrooms and installed engineered hardwood floating floor on the rest space. I had visited several other flooring stores as I wanted to remove the old carpet and install wood flooring in approximately 1200 square feet of the home we recently purchased. In each one ,when I came into the store I was met by a salesperson who basically told me to look around and see what I liked and then they would get me the lowest price for the product. When I walked into Geneva I was met by Judy the owner. The first thing she did was to give me a complete education on the types of wood floors and their pros and cons. Only after this was done and she had answered my questions did she have me look at the options and choose which one best suited me. I was looking for a sustainably made floor with low VOC emissions and one that would hold up well. The best choice for me was an oiled wood floor. Judy then had my husband and I take 6 samples of floor in the oiled finish from several manufacturers and in different price ranges with us to look at at our in our new home. This gave us a good comparison and made it easy to choose the flooring we would use. The flooring we chose was expensive but Judy worked with us to provide some significant cost savings by giving us some options that reduced the price without sacrificing the quality of the floor we ended up with. We had timing issues with the old owner moving out and us wanting to move in within three weeks in order not to have to pay another months rent on the condo we were renting. Judy was able to get our chosen floor in in two days and her crew began work the day after the old owner moved out. The work was completed in time for us to move in and still have a week left to unpack and get settled prior to our old lease being up. We also wanted to paint two bedrooms and Judy was able to recommend a painter who worked with her to get the painting done while the flooring was being installed, thus saving us another day of time. Judy's crew led by Steve did a fantastic job on the installation. They were professional and I could tell they took pride in their work. Every day they cleaned up their work space in the garage - in fact it looked better than the old owner had left it when he moved out! Our movers unfortunately damaged a board in our living room and Steve came back to look at it. He was able to repair the damage without having to replace the board and after he did that he went through the house to check that the movers had not done any other damage. I highly recommend Geneva flooring if you are looking for flooring work in your home. They may not be the cheapest but I believe that you get what you pay for and Geneva delivered a fantastic job in a professional way.

Sanding and finishing took one day + 3 hours and the floors look better than the original install. Finding the matching base board was not easy but Geneva is a local contact for Eco-Timber and the baseboards were here within days. They helped us with some additional problem areas and were very professional. We'd like to continue our relationship for future projects.

Went Great. Can not say enough how easy they were to work with. We interacted with them for over a month between three different projects and areas of our home. Lisa and company were great at the showroom. Answered all questions, researched options, gave us demo materials to take home, and even special ordered samples for us. Nuno was excellent as an installer. I am picky down to the details. I like return ends on my shoe molding. I explained this detail and they executed it perfectly without question exactly the way we wanted it. They figured out solutions to three different problem areas and each worked out well. The installers were prompt, easy to communicate with, and cleaned up after themselves. I recommend them for any flooring project.

We had three contractors come in and bid to replace our living room carpet with hardwood. Geneva's bid was in line with, but somewhat cheaper than the others. They know their material, and paid good attention to detail. We haven't yet proceeded with the project, because other things came up in the mean time.

This required sanding, staining and 3 coats of protective coating. I called Geneva and they responded promptly by setting up a timely appointment to review the job and provide a quote. A small job, but they were very attentive and responsive. After a thorough explanation of the whole process, we agreed to a price and set a date and time. The day before the date set for the work, they called and confirmed the arrangements. The workmen arrived on time and aftyer explaining their plans and the time frame involved proceeded with the work. All went as planned. They excercised care in safely moving the furniture and carefully sealed all cabinets and features to protect from sanding dust. The time frame was right on and the furniture, etc was restored in place as planned. We are delighted with the results. Follow up was prompt to assure that we were satisfied. All OK on all fronts.
Description of Work: We had our 20 + year old kitchen hardfwood floor refinished for the first time. Approximately 130 sq. ft.
My friend had a bamboo floor from Geneva Floor last year, and I was so fascinated with that particular floor. So, I contacted Geneva Floor and asked to do the exactly same bamboo floor in my house. After closing the mortgage, they put bamboo in the house for acclimation for three days. After that, they installed carpet/tile/vinyl along with preparation for hardwood installation. After carpet was installed, I found out that the lines on the carpet is not aligned with the wall. I reported the problem. They told me the wool carpet was not straight from the beginning and reworked the area to straighten it until I satisfied. After they installed bamboo hardwood floor, I found that there are about 10 gaps between the wood which is wider than credit card, and there are more than 10 gaps which I can slip a paper. I reported the problem, and they said that because it is glued down, they suggested to do the plank replacement first to see if I would satisfy with it. But, they also told me that they cannot guarantee that it would become perfectly fit in such a way that I cannot slip a paper. They told me that it is a hardwood bamboo problem, and it cannot be as perfect as my expectation. They told me that they should have told me that before the installation, but forgot to tell me because I already chose the wood when I contacted them. After two or three days since I first claimed the problem, we went to my friend's house (where I was fascinated to the bamboo floor) to see how good it is in my friend's house, and it was so good that we cannot find any gap that I can slip a paper. After seeing my friend's house, they told me that they will claim to the wood manufacturer that the wood doesn't fit each other, and told me that they will do whatever it takes to make me happy. They mentioned that the company is sold to another company several months ago, and it is possible that they changed the manufacturing process. Two days later, we met together again, and they suggested to entirely remove the existing hardwood floor and install new engineered stranded bamboo of their choice in the first floor. The new engineered bamboo has click system that guarantee to fit tightly together. It also has wider width, so looked better, and about $1/sq-ft more expensive than the original hardwood bamboo. They didn't charge anything extra to me for this new work and sent new installer for this work. The new installer had pride in his work and informative to the details. He finished the work up to my expectation, and the new floor doesn't have gap anymore. They also put a new baseboard without extra charge. The whole installation took about four weeks because of the issues on the first work and the rework. I wish it was good from the first place, but I'm satisfied that we came to an agreement, and the errors are corrected. I can say for sure that Geneva flooring worked with me until I was satisfied. They corrected all the errors that I claimed. It was a good experience.
Description of Work: My house is a new town house. Geneva Flooring installed hardwood stranded bamboo on the first floor (living room and kitchen, glue down) and two bedrooms on the second floor (nail), carpet on the stair/master bedroom, tile on bathrooms, vinyl on laundry room.

Everything was wonderful! They were able to find the type of flooring that we wanted for half the price, and the installers did an amazing job. The two ladies who run the business are very detail oriented, and it's evident that they want the business to be the best that it can be. Furthermore, a pipe burst a second time, and they had to come out once again. However, they only charged $100.00 for the labor when they could have charged much more. Ultimately, they are an exceptional company, and I would unconditionally recommend them.

Initially we thought the company would work out great. Lisa was very responsive and came out the next day to measure our floors and discuss what we wanted. We went over everything in detail. Lisa then sent us the quote via email, so we had everything in writing. I called her back and told her it looked good and we wanted to proceed. We set up the installation for the next week. On the day the flooring installer arrives to begin the work, hebrings the wood in to our house, and physically sets up to start installation. I leave my house and exactly five minutes later I receive a call from Lisa to say she made an error in the WRITTEN bid she gave me, which we had already finalized and accepted, and it turns out we need DOUBLE the material and labor she originally told us, raising the price by $1,300.00. I could not believe it, the installer is already in my house, with the timber on the floor. We had gotten several quotes and had we known the correct quote amount, we would have gone with a different company. The price difference between the company we are now using and the new, more expensive quote from Geneva is no where near $1300.00. Geneva Flooring is the first company we have ever come across in all our projects at our various properties that was not willing to honor their original bid in regards to an error on their part. We agreed on a project, a price, and had begun the process by having the installer and material in our home. They did not even offer to meet us halfway, not that we would have continued doing business with a company that has shown itself to be so unprofessional. We have been greatly inconvienced because our flooring instalation has now been pushed back several weeks as a result.
Description of Work: We had a horrible experience with Geneva Flooring. We wanted to put in new flooring in the dining area of an older house in Mt Helix and have it match the existing flooring in the living room by sanding and sealing both areas together after the initial installation.

Response from GENEVA FLOORING
In response to Customer Complaint: Timeline: Customer called on a Friday morning, I responded and went to their house the same day. The installation was scheduled on Monday for the next Wednesday, two days later. The installer arrived, determined the problem with the shortage of wood, called me to handle it, and the project was ended and my installer left the jobsite by noon. I normally have a great record of making correct measurements and do not ever want to seem unfair or untruthful to a homeowner. It was simply human error that I wrote down a wrong number as I was trying to measure and answer questions at the same time. I wrote up an estimate with individual line items for each aspect of the project-- comparing it to the other bids must have shown that the number was 100sf off. I would have honored what I included in my detailed bid, but it would not have covered the entire space you desired. I gave you options for us to continue, or if you were frustrated with my error and wanted me to go I would respectfully withdraw. The entire project was put together in two days so there was no deposit taken and I didn’t want you to feel that I was pressuring you for more money. Like you said, if another company would do the work for markedly less, I wanted you to be free to do business with them. I know there is a wide range of prices out there in the sand and finish business. I believe I have one of the most competent teams in the industry in San Diego and we charge a fair rate for this level of workmanship. There are other less experienced teams that charge less. We strive to have some of the most talented installers in San Diego. I aim to make every customer happy on every project and I was under the impression that you would rather go with another company than try to work out a discount with me. I try to break down my bids so that I am clear on exactly what we are committing to do. The fact that my bid was substantially lower than the others might have been an indication that something was off, and I apologize for the inconvenience of my error.

We found them on Angie's List. I was pleased with their work.
Description of Work: They put in new hardwood flooring.
I liked the fact that I’m about two miles away from where my rental is, and they offered to meet with my tenant and discuss things. So I didn’t have to go down there a number of times. They really did do a lot of work for me that I appreciated a lot. They are very customer oriented. They go out of their way to do whatever they can to accommodate you. I had a good experience with them. I don’t know if their price was good or not because I didn’t do a lot of shopping around, and it was kind of a different situation because of the location. I will use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Geneva Flooring. I last used their services may be in the end of August. I had them do work in a rental unit that I owned. They replaced the carpet in the living room, dining room and bedroom. They did the hallway with wood and they didn’t do the carpet. I took out the carpet totally and they just did all the hardwood floors.

The price was very reasonable and actually more than $1000 less than another estimate I received. The guys that did the installation were nice, polite, and professional. There were a few misunderstandings with trim and who was doing what, but Judy was extremely responsive and pleasant about getting it resolved. I am a bit compulsive and made lists of all of the little issues that I wanted resolved. I did share this list with the installers, and they did resolve most of the issues. However, there were quite a few little odds and ends that they did not do, and I just got tired of asking. I probably should have walked through with them every item on the list, but I also feel that the workers should have referred to the list and marked all items off . But overall, my complaints are small. The company was great and they did a very good job with good customer service.
Description of Work: First Judy came out and gave an estimate for replacing the carpet on my steps and upper landing with high quality laminate. About a month later the product was installed in about 3 days.
