Started off with two bumps that should have been a warning to me. Chad Weber, the owner, ordered the wrong flush mount registers. The correct sizing was 6 x 12; he ordered 4 x 19. He claimed I had told him this sizng even after I showed him the email advising him of the 6 x 12 sizes. he expected me to pay for the registers he mis-ordered, but finally said he would work something out with his register source. The other bump was when, immediately after starting the job, asked for $250 more since he claimed the dry wall finishers had left the floor too messy and he had to clean it before starting work. I do not know what is normal so I paid it. The install went well for the first 1400 square feet and when 4 out of the 5 flush mount registers were installed. He then claimed he was owed $100 more on the last payment. When I told him he had been fully paid based upon work completed, and he was even $100 ahead since I had already paid for the yet-to-be-installed register, he said he would do no more work until he received the $100. A few emails were exchanged, and I gave him every chance to complete the work. He never finished. It should be understood the money to pay for the work was held in a Dixieline Pro Build Construction Trust, so there was no question the money was there to pay for the work. I hired another installer to cover the work and learned why Chad quit. He had underestimated material and did not have enough to complete the job. This would have cost him about $1000. Also, the last work was completing two sets of stairs (15 total stairs) and a landing, all which is more detailed work than just laying flooring. The time involved here is considerable; the chance of an error increased. So Chad just quit. I will probably follow up in court to recover the difference between Chad's estimate and the actual cost with the new installer after Chad quit.
