Description of Work: I chose Craftsman Foundation to install a new pier and post foundation under my 90 year old Spanish style home. They did an excellent job. They also repaired the stem wall and added new beams where needed. They are a very good company for this kind of work.

Description of Work: This was the 2nd time I called to ask for an estimate. Just a note to the provider. The first time I called last year, I spoke to the same person I spoke to last year. He sounded like he just got out of bed, took a message and said he would pass the message on but never did so I never called him back. This time I gave it another try based on the 5-A rating reviews on Angie's List. Weeelllll, I sorta had the same experience. I told the person answering the phone about my previous experience and asked if he could be sure to relay the message. I did get a return call back (after I had already received a return call and confirmed that another company would come out and give us an estimate) at which time the provider told me that they were very busy. I got the impression that they didn't need anymore work as they wouldn't be able to get to us for awhile. He didn't do anything wrong but given the nature of the job and the amount of money it could potentially cost, I would expect a more professional interaction. Maybe I am the only one who had this experience (twice) but I would never call them again. Especially since the person who did contact us was so delightful, diligient and professional. Why bother with an unprofessional company when there are others out there ready to provide you with better service from the get go.

Response from CRAFTSMAN FOUNDATION REPAIR
As the owner and manager of Craftsman Foundation Repair, all facets of our operations are my ultimate responsibility. Particularly, I personally perform all the estimates. Having an additional estimator is not feasible in order to keep up my expectations of quality and high standards. This means that a large portion of the time I am in the field, performing an average of 4-5 estimates a day. Unfortunately, this means that I have either an answering machine or an assistant who takes messages when I am out, and I often have to return calls later than I would prefer. I have found that my clients appreciate my full attention and expertise when I help them with their foundation problems, and a majority of them are willing to wait a reasonable time for a return call. My goal is 24 hours to return calls, but it is not always the case. I am usually booked with estimates approximately 2-4 days out. Since I have no desire to become larger (which would mean changing how I do business) that means that at times the volume of calls and the expectations of all my clients are impossible to meet. In this modern world, with the internet and communications causing instantaneous answers and responses, an old school guy like myself has to at times disappoint potential clients. I am often called with a foundation "emergency" and find it is more likely either a desire for information due to fear (I understand this work can be scary), an expectation of instantaneous response such as you get from a larger company, or the need for a bid for a transaction for purchase and a lack of foresight on scheduling inspections. I have been doing this for almost 20 years, and only one instance comes to mind where the issue was an actual danger. In that instance (documented Nationally) there were several houses that slid down a hill in La Jolla. In that case, the movement was detected 2 months in advance, and was really a once in a lifetime event. Over the last 20 years, I have over 2500 satisfied clients. We do the best work in town. That is why we are so busy, and have been throughout this year. Also, like anybody else, I have family demands that I find more important than any company or job I might have. Perhaps we are a victim of our success, but I do apologize to any client that contacts us and we cannot adequately respond to their satisfaction. I can say it is not due to lack of effort. My typical week includes 50-60 hours of work just to keep up with the volume of calls and work, and I admit to being human. I have the responsibility of estimating and securing work for my hard working employees who have families to support, and if you have read this far you probably get the feeling that I am upset about this grade. If it was an actual client I would be contacting them directly to address their concerns. I would ask that anyone who comments on our company do so with the understanding that real people support their families with work that is very demanding and difficult. I would ask the reviewer to remove this review, and perhaps write a more meaningful review on the company they hired.

WORKERS ARRIVED ON TIME EVERYDAY. COMPANY OWNER OR SUPERVISORS WERE AVAILABLE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS, OVERSEE PROGRESS, AND TAKE CARE OF ANY PROBLEMS OR DETAILS. CONTRACT FOR WORK IS VERY PROFESSIONAL, CLEAR, SPECIFIC AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND. EFFICIENCY AND DEPENDABILITY OF WORKERS MADE A DIFFICULT PROJECT (LIVING WITHOUT A FRONT ENTRANCE/LISTENING TO JACK HAMMERS) MINIMALLY INCONVENIENT OR DISRUPTIVE THAN IT COULD HAVE BEEN.
Description of Work: DEMOLISHED AND REMOVED DEBRIS, OF EXISTING DAMAGED PORCH AND WALKWAY, FOR 80-YEAR-OLD HOUSE. REPOURED IN STYLE AUTHENTIC TO ORIGINAL HOUSE DESIGN WITH CONCRETE (ADDITIONAL ADDED COLOR). SEALED CONCRETE 30 DAYS LATER.

THE OWNER WAS KNOWLEDGEABLE AND PROVIDED GOOD INFORMATION FOR THE ESTIMATE. WORKERS WERE VERY COURTEOUS AND ON THE DAYS THEY WORKED, THEY WERE EXTREMELY PUNCTUAL. HOWEVER, DURING THE JOB, THEY WERE SHORT-HANDED AT TIMES, CAUSING A DELAY IN COMPLETION. OVERALL, THOUGH IT WAS A GOOD EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH THEM.
Description of Work: LEVELED ALL FLOORS, JACKHAMMERED CONCRETE SLAB IN ONE ROOM AND REPOURED THE SLAB.
