The guy at Contract Carpet in Carmel Mount Ranch, son of the owner (SOO) was friendly and responsive throughout the material selection process. His attitude changed, however, when the grout failed on the newly installed tile floor. Clearly, SOO isn't looking for repeat business from us or referrals. He was rude and grossly unprofessional. The selected tile is light in color, the grout is a dark gray. When mopped, the dark grout bled onto the light tile; the more I mopped, the worse it got. I demonstrated the failed grout to SOO by moistening a paper towel with water and running it along the grout line - grout bled onto the paper towel. SOO was surprised and agreed to investigate. A few days later, he called to say it was my fault because I was mopping the floor with vinegar and water, which I used to clean the previous tile floor with no problem. He gave me a bottle of floor cleaner and a bottle of grout seal. With a brush, I scrubbed the tile and applied the seal; used only the floor cleaner supplied by SOO. The grout continued to bleed onto the tile when mopped. A year later, I couldn't take it any longer and we replaced the tile in the kitchen. The installers of the new kitchen tile, not from Contract Carpet, said it was okay to clean the floor with vinegar and water. Tile installed by Contract Carpet remained in the entry hall, bathroom and laundry room. After speaking with customer service for the grout manufacturer, who confirmed that - it's okay to clean a tile floor with vinegar and water; grout should not bleed; and, grout can fail, likely because it was mixed improperly, or was old, I called Contract Carpet looking for resolution. Again, I demonstrated by running a damp paper towel along the grout line; again, grout came up on the paper towel. I explained to SOO that, may God strike me dead, I was not using vinegar to clean the floor. As we saw no other option, my husband and I wanted to replace the floor. We would purchase the tile, grout and all supplies. We felt it was fair that Contract Carpet provide labor. SOO didn't see it that way and was visibly not happy. "I'm super frustrated with you, right now," he said. "I'm not giving you a new floor." He insisted that I'd been using vinegar on the floor because I was unhappy with my tile choice. Trying to convince SOO that vinegar and I were blameless, I repeated the conversation I had with the grout manufacturer rep. He responded that he spoke with a guy in the manufacturer's technical department, who said the grout failed because I was using vinegar, and they are more up on this stuff than "some woman" in customer service. SOO was so nasty that I asked him to leave my house. Before leaving, he offered to replace the grout. This didn't make sense to me. The 1/8th inch grout line, in some places, abuts baseboard and a bathroom vanity. Wouldn't digging it out cause damage? It was clear that SOO was in no mood to discuss it. Relations strained, it became my husband's job to make the arrangements. Eventually, a date was agreed upon and a lighter grout color selected. We reasoned that if the grout bled again, a lighter color wouldn't show as badly on the light colored tile. The installer would clean the tile, remove the existing grout and replace it with the lighter grout, then seal the new grout. The installer, unlike SOO, was very polite and professional. But, evaluating the situation, the installer determined that the 1/8th inch grout line is too narrow for the tool used to remove it and many tiles would be broken in the process. The installer, suggested applying grout renew, a paint that should seal the failed grout. The job was done and we no longer have grout bleeding onto the tile when cleaned - not that SOO or anyone from Contract Carpet is asking. It should be noted that the negative ratings apply only to our dealings with the son of the company owner when a problem developed. All tradesmen who did the work in our home were very professional.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced all flooring and baseboards in our townhouse some 15 months ago.

We had a very positive experience. Josh patiently went over the options and let us borrow the big sample books so we could match colors and fabrics to our home. There was a wide selection from various manufacturers. The installation was done about one week after we made our choices. One of the blinds came from the manufacturer reversed from how we wanted it, but Josh was able to reverse and install it without delay. I would definitely use Contract Carpet again.
Description of Work: Installed blinds on windows in multiple rooms.

Response from CONTRACT CARPET
[member name removed], Thank you for taking the time to write our company a great review. Contract Carpet has always been a success for our family because of our wonderful customers referring their family, friends, neighbors, co workers and now complete strangers through helpful review sites like Angie's List. Thanks again! Josh Dixon

Josh and Nick were both great to work with, though we worked mainly with Josh. You can tell that he truly loves what he does. The entire job went off without a hitch and the installation was perfect. We are really happy with the work that Contract Carpet did. The grout lines are aligned perfectly and the job was done on time and on budget. A great experience.

We cannot say enough good things about their service. I had called many carpet places looking for a small piece to patch into my closet. After hearing that my job was, essentially, too small for these warehouses (America's Best Carpet on , for instance), Contract Carpet totally came through. They had me come in with my piece, and happily searched high and low to find a matching piece for me. What's more-since it was a remnant, they gave it to me (and ample carpet padding) for free. I hope that everyone who has a much bigger job will use them, as they truly have amazing customer service. Give these guys a chance!!!
Description of Work: They went out of their way to help me find a carpet remnant

We heard from a friend that Contract Carpet was a good place to go for flooring, she had received an estimate from them, went with another company and had regrets that she did not go with them. Since it's in our neighborhood we went in on a Saturday in the spring. The salesperson was very helpful and answered all of questions. She encouraged us to take samples home and 'try' them out. She also encouraged us to make an appointment for an estimate so we left her our number and she said someone would call. On Monday we received a call from Josh and he said he could come by that Wednesday evening (we both work) He was on time and came prepared to measure everything in our home... and I do mean everything... closets and all! He answered all of our questions and had more questions for us, what kind of flooring did we like, do we have pets, etc. He said he would drop off the estimate and some samples in the next few days. He did exactly as promised and then some! He dropped everything on our front porch and it took me a few loads to get it in the house. We had a LOT to choose from! The estimate was on par with what we had expected and Josh welcomed us to shop around for tile as well. He told us to take our time because this was not a 'Nordstrom purchase you can take back', then we didn't get a call ....... no high pressure sales tactics at all! We weeded out a few tiles that we did not like and took them back to the store and the sales person (turned out to be Susie, Josh's Mom) told us that they had a new style in the type of tile we were looking for and Josh would drop the board by the next week.I remarked how they were no pressure sales and she said that that is the way they do things, that they might have lost business over it but that high pressure sales was not their style. Josh delivered as promised and we took until September to make our decision to book the installation. I thought they would be booked weeks out but he offered the following Monday!! The installers Jorge and Jose were very nice and always on time. Our subfloor was very 'dusty' and they and Josh apologized for all the dust they kicked up. The whole job (including sealer) took 11 working days. They worked M-S the first week and then finished the following Tuesday with the tile work. Wednesday was dark then the baseboards were done Th-Fri. The sealant was finished the following Monday. I never felt nervous about leaving them in my home to work or giving them a key. They were professional from beginning to end and Josh was responsive to my many calls and questions along the way. Excellent job Dixon family. We will call the next time we need flooring and we will refer you to any and all that ask.
Description of Work: We had 6x24 wood look porcelain tile installed, plus slate look tile on our fireplace. We also had our baseboards replaced throughout the house.
