I called Mr. Herron from an ad in the Union Tribune and we made a date for him to come and diagnose a problem we were having with our Casablanca ceiling fan. Mr. Herron arrived at the appointed time. He asked me to show him the problem areas. He found the reason the wall control for the fan was not working for me. I needed to push a little harder to change the speed of the fan. He said the contacts might be slightly worn and that when it stops making contact we can get another unit from either Casablanca or Fandiego, where it was purchased. Mr. Herron then brought a floor cloth and ladder to enable him to reach the Ceiling fan. He proceeded to troubleshoot the problem and did locate the source of the grinding noise and showed me where there was metal rubbing against metal. He continued to inspect the unit and found some failure in what he called the 'rubber flywheel'. He then found the model number and serial number on top of the unit and took a picture of it so I could have the information for my records. Using the phone number for Casablanca located on the installation papers, Mr. Herron spoke to the Casablanca representative who advised that we could not purchase a motor or replacement parts. It is necessary to make an appointment with Casablanca who will send out an authorized repairman. That person would ascertain what parts would be needed or indicate that we would need a new motor. After the phone conversation, Jerry, discussed our options. He gave me all the information and the phone number of the authorized repair service in Escondido. We discussed possible prices of parts, service call, new motor and Jerry's suggested repair. He indicated to us that this would not be a permanent repair but that it would solve the problem of the grinding. We opted to go with his quote of $205.00 (service charge + repair). Jerry cleaned up after himself, as polite and at all times professional giving us information, discussing options, and letting us make up our minds with no undue pressure. Dick and Jeanne Reynolds
Description of Work: Mr. Herron responded to our call for service at a quoted service call of $68.00. We accepted and he arrived promptly and quickly determined we did not have a problem with our wall fan control. He provided a drop cloth, a ladder to inspect our Casablanca ceiling fan. He quickly spotted the problem which caused the fan to make a terrible grinding noise. He discussed the solutions from which we could choose in order to correct the problem. Jerry was innovative in solving our problem. He quoted the price before he continued with the fix which included the service call and the repair. While the amount we paid seemed high, we understand that Casablanca is an expensive and well-built fan. Jerry spoke with the Casablanca representative and learned we could not order a part. We would need to have Casablanca come to the house, diagnose the problem, and install a new motor. At this point in time the fan is not under warranty. With his creative, simple fix (which we approved) we probably saved around $400.00 by not having Casablanca come to the house. Jerry is a very personable, polite, knowledgeable and creative person.
