Jose showed up promptly on a Saturday morning and got to work. I'd asked him to repair the ceiling & match the texture; his repairs were rather crude and texture was not matched at all. He insisted that was the best that could be done. On the wall repair he suggested that it would be better to install a new piece over the existing drywall, above the cabinets. (Though his ceiling repairs were poor, I was on a tight schedule & doubted I could find anyone else on a Sunday morning -- so thought I'd give him another chance.) He returned the next day a few hours late with a full piece of drywall and a buddy (who stood around for much of the day). He cut pieces to fit between the cabinet tops and ceiling, then had me paint it. Once the paint was dry he mounted it to the wall, but left obvious gaps between the ceiling, and the drywall edges. I wasn't alarmed since I was expecting it to be taped and finished. Then he told me he was done and leaving. When I asked if he was going to finish the edges his English skills quickly deteriorated. Then he told me it only needed some caulking; it was late & having no other options I agreed. When he realized he couldn't squeeze the caulk gun between the cabinets and the ceiling, he stopped work and let me know he wasn't planning on doing anything else. Again when I expressed my concern his communication skills promptly dissolved. Now very frustrated, I decided this was the best he was going do to, that it was marginally better than before, and I was hopeful I could tidy things up myself. And frankly, I'd really had enough and was ready for him to be gone. Not a good experience - I would not hire him again. How did it all end? Ultimately a soffit was built above the cabinets to hide the mess the previous 2 contractors had left.
Description of Work: Hired Jose to repair some drywall issues left by a previous contractor: rough patches on the ceiling where the old kitchen cabinets had been, a ceiling crack, and bubbles & gaps in a new layer of drywall that had been installed. Unfortunately the prior contractor had installed the new cabinets (over my objections) without resolving the drywall issues so much of the work needed to be done in the 7 inch gap between cabinet tops & ceiling.
