Bill Howe Plumbing did not honour their 30 day 'guarantee' (and even didn't show up for their return appointment!). Their reception when I called back for them to 'fix' their shoddy work was met with basically what sounded like some guy fully baked. Their accounting department has a serious difficulty in getting 16 numbers of a credit card correct (pay cash or cheque!). (THREE Attempts for them to get it right! Had to have them read it back to me twice AND have them process it while I was on the phone) I continue to get harrassing phone calls & letters stating that I have not paid my account although I have proof positive that this account is paid. These people are freakin crazy.
Description of Work: Needed my drain snaked before a houseguest arrived just before we were leaving the country for a few weeks out of the country. Guys who came made a mess with dirty boots, were generally kind of jerks making inappropriate comments. Meh, just wanted my drain taken care of. They snaked, they left.

Response from Bill Howe Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning Inc
Customer satisfaction is our #1 priority. We do honor our 30 day warranty and were not aware there was any issue with the original drain cleaning we did in November. We understand you were out of the country for a period of time, so we’d be happy to come back out and snake the drain again to make sure your drain is clear. If a customer has a bad experience with our technicians, like not putting on his boot covers over dirty boots, then we strongly encourage you to contact us immediately. Additionally, we sincerely apologize regarding any issue with the collections agency, harassing phone calls and letters are not acceptable and we will be taking this issue up with the agency. We use the agency to help us collect on work unpaid for an extended period of time. If you’d like to give us a call to have us come out for a complementary drain snaking, we’d be happy to explain again the overlap that happened the day you called in to correct the payment method.

We were extremely pleased with the professionalism and competence of Rick Chavoya, the plumber Bill Howe sent to install our faucets. He worked quickly, but carefully, finishing the job about an hour sooner than the time estimate he gave us for the work. He answered questions competently, indicating a secure knowledge of the issues involved. He had all the parts needed, including angle stops that were appropriate for the particular faucets we provided to him. (We had described the job in some detail when calling to schedule an appointment, mentioning that the plumber would need to supply angle stops when installing the faucets. We requested that he have those parts with him when he arrived.) In addition to working efficiently, Rich showed respect for our home, taking care not to harm any surfaces surrounding the work area. He cleaned up properly, leaving the area neater than when he began. Rick arrived about a half hour after the 3-hour time period established for our appointment. The company did phone us, toward the end of the estimated time period, informing us that our plumber would be about 30 minutes late. The company phoned again, about ten minutes before Rick arrived, to announce that he was on his way. Once Rick arrived, he assessed the job and gave us an estimate. The time estimate of 3 to 4 hours seemed a little extreme, but we agreed to have the work done. Rick then got right to work and actually finished in a little over 2 1/2 hours, including testing both faucets and cleaning the entire area neatly. The price we paid takes into account a 10% discount offered in a coupon for Angie's List members. Rick applied the 10% to the entire job. Bill Howe Plumbings' hourly rates seem rather high. However, because of the Angie's List discount coupon and Rick's efficient work, the job ended up costing us a what we regarded as a reasonable amount. We would definitely call Bill Howe Plumbing again for future projects. .
Description of Work: Plumber installed 2 bathroom faucets that we had purchased at a retail store. Job involved removing one previously-installed faucet that we were replacing, as well as installing a second faucet in a sink that had no existing faucet in place.

He went over to the neighbor?s house and in short, found that the leak might actually be coming from that house. After some further inspection, it was confirmed. The neighbor?s house is slightly elevated from mine so the neighbor never noticed the water. He documented what he found and he didn?t charge me for his time!!!! Two birds with one stone. He must have spent at least 30 minutes here. Thanks Mike!
Description of Work: I had a lot of water building up on the side of my house for months. I suspected a sewer leak. I had a technician from Bill Howe named Mike Lacey come out to inspect the property on January 27th. I was very impressed by his quick analysis of the situation. He immediately ruled out a sewer leak and suspected a water pipe leak. He was also quick to suspect that all this water along my house was not coming from my house.

Everything went well. Rick from Bill Howe was extremely professional and prompt. I would definitely use them again. This was my second plumber for this job. The other one told me he'd be there at 8:30 AM on Saturday morning and never showed. I was not informed until 4:00 PM. Rick responded and tried to get the job done on Saturday evening but was unable due to the uniqueness of my space, He returned early Monday morning and finished.

Our kitchen sink had been clogging up lately and one day we came home to smelly, dirty water flooding our sink. We started calling around this company was the only one that responded immediately and came over the same day within hours. The two guys came in and as soon as they looked at the sink they knew what was wrong. They ran two snakes through our pipe lines and 40-50 ft into the drainage they found the problem. Within a half hour of cleaning out the pipes our sink was back functioning as usual. These guys were so fast and we only paid about $80. A bit pricy we think, but then again for the speediness and effectiveness that they showed we won't doubt in calling them again for any plumbing issues we have in the future.
Description of Work: Our kitchen sink was clogged up so they ran two snake lines through the sink's pipe system and 40-50 ft into the drainage they found the problem, waste was clogging up the pipes. So that's why nothing was flowing out instead it was coming back to our sink. They clean out the pipes removed the waste and got our sink working again.

I don't know what else I can add. We needed help fast and I think the job was well done.
Description of Work: We woke up on Sunday morning to a severely clogged drain. The plumber arrived at just about the time he said he would and found the source of the clog quickly. He showed us with a video camera that he put in the pipe exactly where it was and told us what he planned to do to repair it. He needed other equipment and left but returned quickly and did the job. He observed that our drain and the city sewer line did not meet exactly and that it caused the build-up of sewage which helped lead to the clog. The day after, Monday, 10/31, he called and said he would make a report to the city that our sewer connection needed attention. Before the week was out the city had contacted us and they are in the process of getting repairs made to our sewer connection. This will save us money in the long run as it will diminish the chances of another clog. If we had to do this work it would have been very costly and would have required us to get permits, etc. The plumber, Marcus, was professional, did not waste time, and was very helpful. We are grateful that he took the extra step to help us with the city.

Our house was built with cheap plastic plumbing and these one-piece valves that connect the water supply to the hoses and then to the appliances (sink, dishwasher, toilet etc.). They are a horrible design and couldn't be connected to our new kitchen sink . Bill Howe had replaced one of these valves a year or two ago when I got a new dishwasher. The did a great job So I called them and scheduled the appointment for the sink valves. I said to the dispatcher "Tell them I need two more valves exactly like you did last time". The dispatcher said they had my records of what they did. The plumber arrived on time. When he saw what I needed, he said he "needed to go get the parts". Huh? Obviously the dispatcher did not relay the message, or something got lost in the translation. After he got back, he got started. He did also rightly test our water pressure regulator and said it should be replaced especially with this plastic plumbing. I agreed, and that was included in the call. Fitting the valves took a lot longer than I expected because one of them leaked after several tries. We were running out of usable pipe to connect to when he finally got it. I was disappointed that he charged me for the time/labor to go get the parts that I had specifically requested they bring. I'm not upset about the regulator, although I wasn't expecting it. I also didn't notice until later that he had written "no warranty" on the plastic plumbing parts. He also only applied the 5% Angie's List coupon to labor, which I thought would include everything. I was further disappointed that when Bill Howe customer service called to check on the work, they seemed more concerned about whether he wore boot covers in my house than any of the issues that I actually cared about and did not seem interested in really hearing my feedback. Overall, the job got done. It took longer than I thought it should have and a lot more expensive. I will admit that the regulator was not something I thought needed replacing but was happy to get it replaced. Still, I didn't feel my efforts to make things easy for everyone (like specifying the parts I needed) were acknowledged. UPDATE: I received another call from Bill Howe customer service to discuss my issues. They quickly agreed that the coupon should have been applied to the entire bill, and that I should not have been billed for the travel time to get parts. I received a check back for these corrections. I appreciated their effort to correct this and have modified my review score slightly because of this.

Overall very satisfying experience. Arrived on time and completed initial work swiftly. Pulled root from sewer drain. Two days later, all drains in house clogged. Called back and same technician was immediately dispatched. He was able to remove another piece of root that had been dislodged in the prior visit but went further down the sewer line. Of course, no charge for the follow up visit. It's how a company responds to such unforseen events that sets one apart from the other.

The plumber, John and the apprentice, Bruce, did a very professional and thorough job sourcing the leak and rectifying it. They checked for all possible sources of leaks and luckily were able to rule out any major problems. They corrected the problem, and at the same time resolved an incidental "bug-a-boo" I was having with a defective seal that we had in another bathroom. They were neat and clean, both in dress and in operation.
Description of Work: We had a moisture in our shower stall of unknown origin. We hadn't used the shower in 2 weeks because we wanted it to dry so that I could reseal the grout, but when the grout didn't dry completely we became concerned and that's when we called Bill Howe. The plumber, and his assistant, did a very thorough job in locating the source of the leak and remediated it. While they were here, they also repaired the seal in our other bathroom sink. We've used Bill Howe, for service calls numerous times over the years, and have always found their service to be professional, timely and priced equitably. We recommend them for any service requiring plumbing needs.

We were lucky enough to get Jorge K. from Bill Howe Plumbing to come out, give us bids and do the work. Jorge was very knowledgeable and professional. On the first and foremost job of extending our copper water main, we actually dug the trench ourselves to save us the labor cost of digging to our utility room. Although my husband valiantly attempted to take out a very thick cement pad, he was unsuccessful and Jorge jack hammered it out in no time. Since we just recently had the concrete ripped out (for future replacement), this was fairly easy for us to do and took very little time. We also received bids for a recirculating line and Grundfos (the best) pump as several places in our home (Kitchen & Master Bath) waste an enormous amount of water waiting for hot water AND to replace a difficult inline Pressure Valve. All the lines were immediately accessible in our Utility Room so it minimized the time necessary to do these tasks. We were impressed with Jorge and will keep using him for any plumbing needs although the bids were rather pricey. But then again, they are done correctly, surpassing building codes, which makes everyone sleep better at night!
Description of Work: 1. Water Main Extension from the original copper stub to inside our Utility Room (approximately 15 feet) and install a hose bibb at the initial connection point. ($950) 2. Install a Recirculating line/Grundfos pump ($985) 3. In-line Pressure Valve Replacement ($256.54)

Plumber arrived on time the same day that I called. He spent two hours hard labor cardfully chipping out the old stopper without damaging the threads of the drain itself so that a new stopper could be threaded in. This was an incredibly tedious task, that required some knowledge, skill, experience, and patience. If done incorrectly the job could have easily expanded to replacing the entire drain and gotten much more expensive because the bathtub is in a stacked condo unit without access to the drain except through neighbors' walls or ceiling. The work was excellent, and the company did everything they said they would, but I wish it was a little less expensive.

I am pleased with the Bill Howe experience and will use them again. Besides, they are a neighborhood company.
Description of Work: I had called Anderson Plumbing, Heating and Air to take care of a leak under kitchen sink. They did that job just fine and charged $42 for the house call and repair. But the serviceman asked to see and outside water bib and he came back and said the water pressure was too high...between 90 and 100 (normal is 65-70) and that I needed a new water pressure regulator. He said he could install one for $550 or he could give me an industrial type that was usually $757 for the $550 price. In my mind, I could just visualize the monthly sales meeting with the servicemen...saying we are going to push water pressure regulators this month. He left me with a booklet about WPR's and I called the water company to ask to have my pressure tested. They came out and said my pressure was 110 and I needed a WPR repair. So I called Bill Howe Plumbing for an estimate and they put one in for me for $255.55. Needless to say, I will be calling Bill Howe for my future plumbing needs.

Let me just say that I know the people at Bill Howe will take care of me. I've called on them several times with various issues/projects, and each time they've been SO incredibly helpful, professional, and I've never had an issue with their work. For this particular problem, I called up, and they were able to send someone out the same day. Actually, within just a couple hours. They followed up with a call saying when the plumber would be arriving (at the BEGINNING of the estimated range they originally had stated), and the plumber himself, Gilbert called when he was about to arrive. Gilbert was incredibly friendly and personable. And diplomatic. Plumbing issues can be a bit embarrassing, ya' know? So in working with me to try to figure out what exactly the problem was, he was tactful and professional. I told him what I knew of the issue, he ran a few tests to make sure he had a handle on what was going on, and he told me what he was going to do next, complete with an estimate of how much it would cost. No surprises, and nothing outrageous. He got to work, was courteous and made sure he had access to the offending area without messing up or damaging the property, and after he fixed the problem (seemed like in no time at all!), he even hosed down the work area to get everything back to normal again. I couldn't ask for better, from Gilbert himself or Bill Howe as a company. I know when I call, the problem will be fixed, and I will have a great experience. And I'll get to meet great new people! Many, MANY thanks to Gilbert and all the other people from Bill Howe who have taken care of me throughout the years. It's SO good to know that I can count on them in the midst of chaos to make things better again.

I called around 10 am, and Bill Howe's dispatcher scheduled someone for between 2 and 5. They called around 4 to tell me that they had gotten very jammed, and asked if it was ok if the plumber didn't arrive till after 5. I said sure. A very nice plumber arrived around 5:40. He took a look at our problems and then said, "You know that this is going to be at time and a half because it's after 5. Is that ok?" I said, no, that wasn't ok, as the dispatcher had said nothing about it, and the "after 5" was due to their scheduling problems, not my need for a repair after hours. (Plus, I was left hanging at home for several hours waiting for them). He called the office and got it cleared to charge at regular time. This really bothered me--I as I worried that the plumber doing the work would not get paid by Bill Howe at the appropriate rate (he was working overtime), and I didn't like that they hadn't communicated to him that the charge should be at the regular rate. (Why did I have to be in the position of disputing the charge when the lateness of the hour was due to no fault of my own?) Bottom line about the plumber's work. The plumber did the repairs efficiently and professionally and turned the water off and on for me (as I was making dinner). He then advised us on how to avoid our shower clog in the future (he advised against drano). We have used Bill Howe many times in the past. I like them and will continue to use them. They are on the expensive side (thus the "B" on price), but they usually get someone out the day you call, and they are professional and neat plumbers. Once we even needed someone to replace our water heater the day after Thanksgiving.
