+ -1 moreI have hired Barney for a number of handyman jobs. He is pleasant and I trusted him. Unfortunately, I had to learn the hard way that he does not know the limits of what he can do and he does not stand by his work. He charged me an exorbitant amount to repair a defect in a wall following removal of an a/c unit. (Since he charges by the hour and not by the job, it ended up costing more than 3x what a drywall contractor would have charged). He did not apply joint tape. A year later, the area is cracked and buckled, and he has not responded to multiple emails to address the faulty work. I'm disappointed.

+ 5 moreFabulous! Barney is the BEST handyman I have ever worked with and I wholeheartedly recommend him. He is highly professional and produces high quality work. He is very responsive, clear about what his services entail, and is attentive to the details that matter in solving problems or addressing any issues that arise. He has a strong aesthetic sense which is important to me and makes his work stand out as very accomplished and of excellence. Nothing needed to be redone or fixed again - he gets it right the first time and his work endures. The problem is fixed. It took me a very long time to find a handyman that I felt I could trust, had highly honed skills, and was an easy person to work with and so I was thrilled to find Barney. He is a gem!
Description of Work: Reorganizing my laundry room to accommodate much larger washer and dryer. This included installing and storing various household materials, tools as well as new fixtures, shelves, and photographs for making the space more efficient, accessible to reaching different items, and aesthetically pleasing. Building two eight food platforms to expand my attic space. Repainting my bathroom ceiling and touching up various areas throughout the house. He is impeccable with touch ups. Miscellaneous problem solving and installing of various fixtures in kitchen and throughout the house. Creating and securing screens to windows. Power washing the garden pathway pavers and porch.

Description of Work: I've initially contacted Barney on March 27,2017. I was given an appointment that was changed twice. He arrived at appointment late. He verbally agreed to perform two jobs, ( leaking pipe work was declined by Barney). He further delayed the job to April 20 due to his pending vacation. I did agree to wait for him based on his good Angie's reviews. However, he did not contact me on April 20, so I've sent him a message as he does not like to be contacted by phone. Barney responded by e- mail and said he was too busy to help me & to find someone else. I am upset to have waisted an entire month waiting for Barney. His word of job acceptance meant and is worthless.

The combination of parking, traffic, and our restrictive rules in our building all combined to make it very difficult to find the right person to help us. Barney was flexible, so fair with us financially, did everything timely, excellent work, and always looked for extra ways he could be helpful for us. I can't recommend him highly enough! He was a treasure for my husband and I to find for tasks around our home that required patience, expertise, and ingenuity.

He was up front about his fee structure, asked if he could bring along an assistant, and gave me the heads up when it appeared he would be a little later than expected and asked if that would be a problem. Barney was efficient in working through the list of things I had been meaning to fix for years but never got around to. I would be happy to recommend Barney and work with him again in the future.

Description of Work: Shaved off wood on french doors and reset handles so it would shut easily. Lined up 15 kitchen cabinet doors so they would stay shut. Drilled holes so 4 cabinet knobs could be attached in closet and then attached knobs.

+ -1 moreNot well to be honest and I'm a little disappointed. I noticed on Face book that he didn't get the rave reviews he did here. He lead me to believe that he could complete the job and incorrectly installed the wrong hinges. After many requests to get him to respond with a solution (and frankly lack of attention to the problem - he stated he was "busy") he is finally coming back today. He also tried to bill be an hourly rate for the "research" to resolve the problem which, after asking many people, is not customary or appropriate. Organization is not this guy's forte. He's very nice but I think he has a lot to learn about the business.
Description of Work: Installed some shelves and tried to build out a cabinet above my refrigerator.

He and his assistant, Marco, were on time for the appointment. They did an outstanding job, very meticulous and thorough. He stayed the entire day until the job was totally complete because that was the only day I was available to use them. I would recommend Barney for any handyman job. Very professional, personable, and excellent workmanship!
Description of Work: I needed a variety of handyman services to ready my apartment for moving out, including priming and painting two rooms, patching nail holes and repainting area, and other minor repairs.

+ -1 moreit went well. He is very easy to work with. He suggested ways we could solve problems but did not insist on his way. The major problem we ran into was his car breaking down. I'm sure he has solved that problem. I plan to call him to work with us again starting in July if he is avaiiable.
Description of Work: He put in a 3 APT. LOCKED MAIL BOX. Ii required taking down the old boxes, repairing the wall. He put up some hooks and shelves and a door mirror.

+ 1 moreThey are a little on the pricey side but their work is very good and they work quickly. They charged $75 an hour and most handyman prices are about $50 an hour.
Description of Work: We used Barney's Handyman Service to put in new door locks, repair our garage door, and fix some minor plumbing. They're also going to build an outdoor box for the security camera.

He has always done a great job and I think his prices are reasonable. He is pleasant and personable, likes dogs (a major plus here) and will go the extra step -- researching a specific problem, calling or e-mailing the manufacturer when necessary. I will continue to use Barney for all of my handman needs.
Description of Work: Barney measured some windows for me so that I could order new Duette shades (which he will soon install). He also removed and replaced several leaking outdoor faucets. Also replaced a few loose wood pieces on the deck. I have also used him for minor plumbing problems, and general handyman projects in the past.

+ -1 moreAlthough his hourly rate is a little more than I originally wanted to pay, I have no complaints. Because of his work ethic, I will be asking him to come back for a few more tasks. I would recommend him to others.
Description of Work: I made an appointment with Barney and then had to change the dates. I was relieved to find him very accommodating with the dates change (two days). I had a large list of items: assembling several tables, replacing bathroom vanity and faucet, installing curtain rods (and he hung the new curtains), replaced rubber wall base moulding in the kitchen, remove and replaced the old caulk in the bathtub and kitchen sink and other tasks. He was prepared, had all his tools in his car and even brought caulking in case I did not have the supplies. He was thorough, cleaned up during and after his work and even pointed out a few other small items that I might want completed. I happily agreed. He also reduced the price on work time on the vanity because he had a hard time loosening a stubborn stuck pipe that he said took a little longer than usual.
