They do a great job, the only reason for the B is because I think they probably are a little more expensive then other companies. But I can reply on them so that's great. I have a expensive filter that I think has a ultraviolet light. They great for working with people with allergies. They come in with their little white boots. The technicians are great. I use Luke, I really like Luke.

I will let you know after the parts are installed, but was very impressed so far
Description of Work: I had a previous Heating Company out who charged me $680 dollars and did not fix the problem, they kept saying we can try this, and that did not work so we try this and that did not work so after 4 trips I called ASI. Scott came out and worked on the heater and showed be what it was doing and why. He was able to identify the problem, we have ordered the parts so now will get it fixed.

They gave us a bid of $10,000 and we found someone to do it for less than $100 and it's been running fine ever since. Do they look at senior citizens and think we are stupid? They should send out more qualified and honest people. Just because people are old; they are not stupid. They are supposed to be a bonafide company and that's why we called them. They came quickly. I called today and they were here the next day, so they were prompt. They came at the time they said.

ASI came out once again this year to do a annual HVAC tune up on the systems they installed 4 years ago. As always they are on time, quick to do their work and responsive to any questions/concerns about your system. They are always courteous/respectful and take care to wear shoe covers while inside your home. TIP - Buy your own filters ahead of time for tech to change, avoid off the van pricing if tech has to provide a filter.

The total bill was about 15-Grand. They did a good job. I thought that the price was a little high, but I went ahead anyway without getting a lot of estimates. I was satisfied with the work. I would give them an "A" for price because I don't have anything else to compare it with to challenge that. The quality is very good because we are very satisfied with the system. I continue to use them for my annual maintenance. They are very responsive. They have contacted me each time to remind me that my service is due.

*** Sorry, I had these separated into paragraphs but this editor removes them. After purchasing a new home with central heat but no air conditioning and with the sweltering summer of 2016 upon me, I interviewed several contractors to install central air. When I met with the ASI salesman, I felt very comfortable. He pointed out a few minor things that needed to be fixed with the condensation line and the furnace exhaust and stated “this only costs a few cents, we’ll take care of it”. [Curiously, ASI had installed the central heating system for the previous homeowner.] He recommended a condenser and installation location that would work great. I scheduled the install of a new air conditioner with ASI during the sweltering summer of 2016. The next available appointment was August 18th, a month out. I patiently sweated out the month for August 18th to arrive knowing that relief was in sight. On the afternoon of August 17th, a woman from ASI called to say she forgot to schedule my install. Wait! You knew to call me but I’m not on the schedule? She said I would now have to wait a couple of more weeks in the heat. Since I knew the salesman did not want to lose his commission, I emailed him. I did not hear back from him by later the next morning so I called him. He said “Hasn’t anyone talked to you?” Apparently he was trying to move up the appointment. Eventually, someone from ASI’s office called and the install was scheduled for August 22nd. August 22nd arrived and ASI sent out three guys. They determined how to run the coolant line and drilled a hole through the wall for it. They preceded to try to push the coolant line wrapped in foam insulation through the hole. They could not get it to fit and tore up the insulation quite a bit. Finally they gave up and took apart the bundled line and passed it through the hole. After that they sort of patched up the insulation but I can see the coolant line in places where there isn’t any insulation. They ran the lines through sort of an unfinished basement area but it looks like they cut them too short as they hang lower than all the other utilities do, just a little longer and they wouldn’t be hanging down. Next they tried to hook up the AC to the zoning system. One of the installers said, “every time I hook this up, it blows a fuse on this board.” The guy spent some time trying to get it to work and declared the furnace board was now bad. He said, “They only give us limited training so we’ll have to send a technician out.” I also paid for an additional WIFI thermostat which they couldn’t get to work either. The installers wanted me to pay the balance even though they were walking out the door leaving me without a working system. I declined. The technician arrived the next day to figure out what the installers had done. He felt that the furnace’s board was bad. The furnace had worked perfectly before ASI arrived. [He said it would be covered by warranty if it was less than 10 years old. The previous homeowner saved all the documentation from the work they had done on the system (also done by ASI) and indeed it was less than 10 years old. ASI again attempted to collect payment for a non-working AC system. A few days later, I received a call from the ASI office and a woman told me the new furnace board would be $733 and asked whether I wanted it. I told her that ASI had installed this furnace and gave her the date. She claimed she could see no such record in her system. I told her I would scan the invoice the previous owner had saved and email it to her, which I did. She wrote back and that it was now NOT covered by warranty, that ASI only has a 5 year warranty on this particular part. Well of course I want the furnace (which worked before) and air conditioner to work so I consented to this and waited for the new board to arrive. The furnace board came in and on September 2nd, the same technician arrives to install it. I told the technician that the ASI office said the furnace board would not be covered under warranty as he believed. He did some further checking and decided that the furnace’s board was, in fact, good. Now he felt that the zone system was not working correctly and needed to be replaced because he felt the air conditioning circuits on it were bad. He pointed out a couple of resisters that looked blown out. [The “fuses” the installer said were blowing, perhaps?] He used the fan function to operate the air conditioning in the mean time and also said that one of the baffles that controls one of the zones was not closing so he moved it to a permanently open position. He thought maybe the zoning system was not operating that correctly either. This is another thing that worked fine before the AC was installed by ASI. He insisted that zone system was probably not damaged by the ASI installers. I told him I would see whether the zone system was covered by my homeowner’s warranty. At least he got the system kind of working even though I no longer had a fan function in the system and one of the zones was always on when another zone was on. The homeowner’s warranty did cover the zone system. They sent out a different contractor (not ASI) to diagnose issue with the zone system. This contractor agreed the zone system needed to be replaced. He also pointed out that the condenser would not pass inspection as ASI had not installed lock caps on it. I contacted ASI and they came out and installed the lock caps a few days later. The contractor said that ASI had done something with the non-operating baffle when they pulled it off and put it back on, perhaps a screw, that was preventing it from closing. We could both hear the baffle attempting to close. He also felt ASI could have fried the zone system but had no way to prove it. I contacted ASI on October 3rd to let them know that the repairmen felt ASI had installed the baffle incorrectly. They have scheduled their “quality control guy” to come out on October 7th. They fixed the baffle. October 5th, the City of San Diego building inspector came. ASI makes you schedule and conduct the inspection with the city rather than having one of their employees take are of it so you’re going to be at home another day waiting for them to arrive. October 7th, Joe from ASI came out and determined that a gear has been stripped in the closing mechanism for the lower floor’s zone. He ordered a replacement mechanism and then replaced it. A few nights ago, it finally got cool enough that I turned on the heat in the living room and kitchen zone. Nothing happened. I also noticed that the fan function on another zone was not working. Figuring it was probably the zone system, I called the home warranty people. They sent someone else out the next day and told me that ASI hadn't hooked up the wire on the thermostat for heat. They also told me that ASI had used the fan wire to run the AC so now I have no fan function anywhere in the house. I'm afraid this company has spent all their money on advertising and none on training their employees. None of the little fixes the salesman said they would take care of got done. I've spent so much of my time and so many phone calls trying to get this system fixed up as a result of ASI's botched work.

Very well, Tom the technician was prompt, professional and explained everything he did. He provided a lot of education and information about our heating systems. He replaced a capacitor on our forced air unit which should help it to last longer. The other units are old and he recommended replacing them. They are functioning properly but lack some safety features that new units have. He checked CO levels and heat exchangers on all units and they were fine.

ASI installed this system about 10 years ago, along with a new furnace and new ducts, so I called them to come fix it. The first tech that came out determined that the coolant level was low so he topped it off, without ever looking for the leak. He also changed the compressor start capacitor, for which he charged me about $300, and the condensate pump, also about $300. The total price was sky high, especially the price for the replacement refrigerant, about $43 per pound. This system uses R410A refrigerant, available on Amazon at a price of $99.95 for a 25 pound tank, or about $4 per pound. Thus ASI is charging roughly a 1000% markup. And no, you don't need any license to buy R410A, the EPA considers it environmentally benign. This "repair" lasted about 3 weeks, until the new refrigerant had leaked out. I called ASI again, thinking that their workmanship warranty might apply as the repair had failed. But I was told by the next tech who came out that I would have to pay for a leak test, at $320 per hour, with no guarantee that the test would find the leak and no limit on the number of hours that it would take. I can't afford to sign a blank check like that so I decided to seek another opinion. I called another HVAC outfit, highly rated on Angie's List, and they came out and found the leak in about 15 minutes, albeit at a flat rate of $310 for performing the test. When the tech found out that ASI had installed the system he advised me to call them to do the repair since it was "their install". He did quote me a repair price for the new parts and labor but it seemed too high so I called ASI again. They insisted on repeating the leak test, to which I reluctantly agreed. They also found the leak in about 15 minutes but of course charged me for a full hour. The part that was leaking was not in stock so I had to wait about 3 weeks for them to get it – seems the manufacturer only makes them when they get an order. They finally came out and installed the new part and the system has been OK ever since. The new part has a 10 year warranty, the old one had only a 5 year warranty so it did last twice its design life. So 4000 dollars later my A/C now works, just seems that the prices were outrageous throughout the process, both from ASI and the other outfit I called for the second opinion. I do think that the first tech that ASI sent out fell down on the job when he didn't even mention that there had to be a leak, refrigerant is not a consumable in these systems, Someone at ASI should have noticed this and let me know that the original repair was incomplete and that the refrigerant would inevitably leak out again. This oversight cost me at least $400 in lost refrigerant and there was no offer form ASI to cover that cost even though it was their oversight that allowed the leak to continue after the first service call.

We have used ASI Hastings for years for our furnace maintenance and have always found them to be excellent -- they're very responsive and provide excellent service -- so when we decided to proceed with solar energy installation, we went with ASI again and were extremely satisfied that we did. From the initial consultation with Tom Justo to the actual installation, we were very impressed by how thorough the work was explained, and how excellent the installers were -- including Jerry (electrical panel circuitry), Adam (stucco and roofing repair), Gary (lead solar installer), Bill (solar installer), and Matt (solar installer). Work was done on time and after each day's job the work space was clean and neat. All work was thoroughly explained and efficiently accomplished.. This is an excellent company and we highly recommend them.
