With my central AC going out on a holiday weekend, there were not to many options for repair on Labor Day. I made a few calls to a number of companies which I found using Google, leaving voice mail until I ran across a company that offered 24x7 service calls. I made an appointment with that company for same day service so figured I was all set... Suren of Advanced AC returned my call a few minutes after I made the appointment and although I told him that I had another company coming out to have a look, he offered a number of over the phone trouble shooting tips. Unfortunately none of the tips ended up resolving the issue however I was impressed with the offer of tips at no charge and told him I would call if the other company didn't work out. As it turns out, the 24x7 service company sent out a tech on time as quoted however the tech after taking a quick look at the outside unit and making some voltage tests, came to the conclusion my "Control Board" was bad. He offered up a guess of somewhere between $600 and $800 dollars for a replacement board so as you can imagine, I was a little shocked. After the tech left, I did search on Amazon and found the board for $119 new so was fairly certain I was being taken for a ride. After seeing what the real cost of the board was, I called Suren back that evening and he said he could be out this morning (9/2) at 9:00 AM to provide me a second opinion. Suren arrived on time and was just as professional in person as he had been on the phone. The visit started with a look at the outside AC unit and a few tests with a meter with the thermostat on and off which Suren said was pointing at something in the Attic as the problem. Suren happily went up into the attic and almost immediately noticed that there was a drip pan that was close to full with water and that the overflow switch was tripped. As it turns out, the drip pan is not connected to a drain which I was not aware of since we only purchased the house about 10 months ago. In conclusion, it was NOT the main board that was the issue! I also wanted to mention that throughout the service call, Suren explained each step to me (in some cases more than once so I understood) and the total time to find the issue was well under an hour. With the HVAC industry having a poor reputation in general, it was nice to come across a contractor with integrity. I would highly recommend Advanced A/C & Heating Contractor and more specifically Suren.
