After demolition it became clear that while I did have a "nice looking" design, that no attention had been paid to the particulars of this buildings structure by Mr. Smith. Several items on his design we impossible due to the structure. Electrical and plumbing had to be changed due to his faulty design. He had required his full payment before demo, so I had no recourse. At this time he also tried to tell me he would do 3 site visits but finally conceded that he was contracted to do 5. As it turned out, he only did 1 site visit of the 5. Due his faulty design and lack of oversight construction was delayed and significant additional costs were incurred by us. In January of 2007 I notified Mr. Smith by certified mail that he was in violation of our contract and asked for a refund of $2000. He did not respond so I took him to small claims court. Mr. Smith was duly notified of the hearing but failed to show or respond and after presenting evidence to the judge, I received a settlement of $3000.00. He then attempted to have the case nullified in court and lost that appeal. He also tried to sanction me for writing a bad review and lost that effort also. Since then he has refused to pay the settlement and as of 2013 still has the judgement against him and still owes me these funds. Please do not use Mr. AK Smith for ANY project you have. He is dishonest and while his work is "pretty" it is incomplete, inaccurate and he will not do the work as contracted.

We had to hire another architect to do the work.
