Description of Work: Hill Construction Co installed pavers for the driveway and pavers for the courtyard.

Description of Work: I live in a Redwood City historic house, built in 1894. The house has never had a real driveway, just dirt and gravel. I finally decided it was time to address this and I had some real concerns: 1) drainage around my house, 2) size of the job 3) time to schedule 4) time to complete 5) consideration of the historic nature of my property 6) what materials to use and 6) cost. I tried getting referrals from friends, I looked on Yelp, I checked Diamond Certified and got 3 very good contractors. However, it was when I went out to a paver manufacturer web site that I found a link to Hill Construction Co. I called Roger Hill on Monday, the 30th of January. Roger came out that day to talk to me. When we first met and he introduced himself he gave me a very professional packet, outlining his business and a 3-page list of references. He spent well over an hour with me talking about all aspects of the job and my concerns. I had originally been considering concrete, then had moved to permeable pavers. Roger took the time to truly explain why neither one might not be the best solution. He could tell that I was somebody who would research anything he said, so he gave me very good information on interlocking pavers. Roger not only demonstrated professional knowledge, he also showed an excellent understanding of Redwood City's soil conditions. He promised to email me a quote as soon as possible. Roger was good to his word. I received a very detailed quote, no mystery to it. Tasks clearly outlined. When I decided to add another component, he emailed me the cost within a half day. Comparing his quote to the other 2 quotes in the running, Roger's shone! The attention to detail, his enthusiasm for working on an historic property, and his ethical demeanor were all points in his favor. Funny thing is that I did not bother calling his references until after I agreed to hire him. I spoke to 5 different clients, all with driveways installed by Roger. Each job had different specifications, but the common theme was overwhelming satisfaction. In fact they could not say enough about Roger. I also drove by four addresses to look at the driveways and take photos. Excellent work. One week after first meeting him, work commenced on my property - February 6th. Everybody that worked on this project, from the excavator to the guys placing the pavers, obviously take pride in what they do. The driveway was finished on Saturday the 11th. The debris hauled away. All that is left is the sealing, after the weather dries out. This was a big project! My driveway is 80' long and towards the back widens out into an area about 25 feet across. Excavation was about a 2-day job. Roger and I had fun looking at artifacts unconvered 10" down. Old pottery, bricks, horseshoes.
