I had used Power Interior Contracting for a large job back in 2012, and I felt fortunate to retain his services once again, this time for renovation of a patio area. As before, he was respectful and communicative and reliable. He did every bit of the work himself. He had a vision for the project from the start, and realized it with artistry and attention to detail. My family is reaping the benefits. What a beautiful space it is now!

Description of Work: Joe completed a rather long "honey do" list for me that included trimming out doors and baseboards, taping sheetrock that was already hung, and hanging a whole bunch of cabinets in my kitchen and laundry room. He is VERY conscientious and professional, and his work is top quality. People stand in line to get Joe to work for them. If you are lucky enough to get on his schedule you will not be disappointed.

I am a single woman and I don't know any contractors. I was worried about finding a contractor I could trust. I found Powers Interior Contracting through Angie's List. I needed an upstairs loft converted into an insulated bedroom with a door. Joe Powers came out and bid the project with a thorough and reasonable bid which I received within a week of his first visit. This was a smaller project for Joe and he worked it in between other jobs and finished the project in two and half weeks. He was very professional, kind, helpful, trustworthy, punctual, a good communicator and he did an outstanding job on the project. Everything went as I had expected. The room turned out great. He matched the paint and the texture of the walls to the existing living room such that you cannot tell the upper room used to be a loft. He is a really talented craftsman. He did an excellent job cleaning up the work site before he left. The project couldn't have gone any smoother and I couldn't be happier with the finished product. I would definitely use Joe Powers' services again and I highly recommend him for interior contracting work.

Overall, it went fine. We did contract by the cost of the job, not the time it would take, but there were some days off that pushed work into a time when we had out of town house guests. That detracted some from their stay. Otherwise he did an excellent job and I was very satisfied with his work. He is easy to talk with and checked in with me at every step of the way, which I appreciated. The work was not easy, especially since he worked alone. He had to replace a rim joist, which is what supports the second story of our house and it turned out well. After he painted the siding and "back-rolled" it, I was concerned that the grooves in the siding still showed holes/gaps where water could get in, which is what caused the problem in the first place. When I pointed that out, he hand brushed all the grooves, which solved the problem and will, hopefully, save us some thousands in the future. I am definitely not satisfied with the rest as outlined above.
Description of Work: replaced siding and support that were rotted, then painted them. There is still interior work to be done that has been delayed for months. He left the job he was doing here to go finish a job elsewhere. Other times, he did not work full days so that he could do things elsewhere. But since he finished the exterior work here, I had not heard from him until I finally called him wondering if he was ever going to finish the work he promised to do. He said that he was on another job that was taking longer and he could not leave that job for any time whatsoever to finish what he was supposed to do here. And he foresaw no time when he could finish the work here. Now I will have to find another provider to do the interior work. This was a very unsatisfactory conclusion. When he worked, he did well. But this other stuff has left me unable to wholeheartedly recommend him to others.

Response from Powers Interior Contracting
In our original meeting, [member name removed] and I discussed all of his home projects he was looking to have completed. At the end of that conversation we agreed that the dry rotting siding & trim was the highest priority. He had a few other “unrelated” small drywall repairs throughout their home he was looking to have completed too. I told him I would focus on the dry rotting siding & trim first, (knowing from experience these problems can expand once we open up the walls.) I told [member name removed] the siding, trim, and the repainting work of the affected areas would take about 5 business days, and that I would be able to fit his work into my schedule, as I had a gap of that length in the schedule of the current large project I was working. Once the siding was removed, extensive dry rot had been found which required structural re-framing around a window and a rim joist above it. Upon closer review, additional dry rotted panels and trim were discovered about the same time at another location on their home. As well, the window reframing portion required additional drywall, trim and paint work inside. All of this naturally affected the time line, and now was requiring my time I thought I was to be resuming with my other clients’ large project. During that span of time after the first week I was unable to be at Mr. Robinson’s project full time due to contractual obligations/ meetings around my other project, and communicated what he could expect regarding my attendance at his home. So goes the “Dance” of construction….. (things don’t always go as we plan.)These situations simply require the best communication possible with both clients, which I did do by Mr. Robinson’s own statements. I was not about to leave my client, (Mr. Robinson), in a lurch, or perform shoddy, incomplete work for him and his wife, and agreed to do the additional work. All work that Mr. Robinson paid for was completed and performed in a quality workmanship type fashion, and met industry standards. Nothing was left “unfinished.” At the completion of my contractual obligations and extra work for Mr. Robinson, he asked when I would be available to take care of the other “unrelated” drywall repairs and projects he was looking to have completed. I informed him it would depend on if a “gap” showed up in my other project schedule, (which in the end, did not show up.) It seemed to me at this point, he was looking for his own handy man to take care of the projects that were on his list. When he realized I was unable to fulfill on the rest of his unfinished projects, he was disappointed. I referred him to Angie’s List to look for a Drywall Subcontractor or handyman. ~Joseph S. Joe Powers' estimate was a bit higher than another estimate I received, but he could do the job within a week and said it was a 3-day job. Unforeseen problems caused the project to go into a 4th day which I thought was okay, since the other contractors I contacted wouldn't have been able to start the work for another 3 weeks. Joe Powers worked on a Saturday in order to have the project completed. Powers Interior framed, insulated, and made the new dry wall paint ready. A friend was going to do the painting.
Description of Work: Powers Interior removed a wall and built a wall in my house and built a laundry room around my washer and dryer in the garage.

The workmanship was excellent. No detail was left undone. The estimate was followed to the T. The only problem we had was with the City of West Sacramento taking forever to approve of our plans. That set our starting date back by 3 months. However, that late starting date actually turned out to be to our advantage. We highly recommend Powers Interior Contracting.

Joe (1) taped and mudded a new room that had been sheetrocked but not finished; (2) installed a new prehung interior door; (3) trimmed out 3 existing doors, including filling in a gap at the head of a new slider that was installed previously but not finished; (4) installed floor moldings in 2 rooms. Joe did a great job and I'm very happy with the work and with his professional attitude. He got an awful lot of "honey do's" done for me in one day. Thank you, Joe!

Joe is the kind of builder you look for and don't often find. Being a successful builder requires many unrelated skill sets: building competence, honesty, organization, professionalism, and diplomacy. From the first meeting it was obvious that Joe was much more focused on the requirements of the job than the other builders I considered. On that first meeting he stayed for a long time and gave me a far more detailed analysis than the others. His bid was fair and our money dealings were always cordial and on the mark. The job did take a long time owing to the fact that Joe does most of the work himself and is an absolute perfectionist. In fact, when Joe would encounter some less than superior workmanship from the past he seemed personally offended. Joe also has an excellent eye for color and design, something I was not expecting, so he was able to help as I struggled with these choices. Another interesting thing about Joe is that his lengthy construction experience is complemented by the superb shape he is in as a masters athlete off the job. So he can tackle the physical demands with the ease of a younger, less experienced builder. There was no crisis during this job, only a series of problems that were worked out. There's no question that I would use Joe again. He has my highest recommendation.
Description of Work: This job was to turn my existing unfinished attic space into a master bedroom suite with bathroom, We needed to pop a new dormer to complete the space. My house is a 1922 Craftsman which is quite out of plumb, adding to the difficulty of the job. Another building company supplied a detailed plan which called for some sophisticated engineering to support the structure. Joe did most of the skilled work himself including framing, foundation, electrical, plumbing, door hanging, window installation, siding, roofing, drywall and surfacing, painting, cabinet install, counter install, and tile install. Joe subcontracted out floor installation, HVAC, glass shower install, sand blasting, and stair railings. I believe he is fully capable of doing the subcontracted work as well but decided not to do it in this instance.

We had a list of items needing work that had nagged us for months. We purchased the Big Deal (8 hours of Home Maintenance) and arranged the help from Joe. He was very helpful ahead of the appointment, giving us information about gathering needed materials and procuring a permit. On appointment day, Joe showed up ready to work and we did a walkthrough of all the work necessary. He provided us with multiple options for the new security lighting which required a new electrical circuit. We had a bad faucet feeding our icemaker which he fixed in no time. Also he replaced our main kitchen faucet which had been leaking and frustrating us for a long while. He worked so fast that he had time to install another replacement security light on the opposite side of the house! We figured he'd be anxious to leave after we completed our list, but surprised us again when he took another hour to explain about kitchen remodels in general, and gave us estimates for various remodeling scenarios for our specific kitchen. All in all, Joe Powers was very professional, honest and an extremely nice guy. We were also happy he took time to explain details as he was working on our maintenance list. Now we are able to enjoy our new kitchen faucet, icemaker and water dispenser, and feel more secure with the new security lighting.
Description of Work: Replaced kitchen faucet. Fixed leak in icemaker faucet. Installed new electrical circuit and new security light. Installed a second replacement security light. Provided great ideas and estimates for kitchen remodel options.

I bought the $9999 kitchen remodel that Powers Interior Construction offered through Angie's List. When I met with Joe, I explained that what I wanted and needed was a much, much larger remodeling project and that I wanted to roll the Angie's List deal into that. I went with PIC because he was prompt and responsive and responsible from the very beginning, and that seemed to be reflected in his other Angie's List reviews. What a Great Choice. Throughout the huge, four-month-plus project, Joe was awesome. His work was top notch. He did every bit of it himself, and it shows. He kept me in the information loop every step of the way. He was respectful of my space and my family. He was flexible and helpful as changes and issues emerged. Joe Powers is a rare and special contractor, and I would not hesitate to use him again or recommend him to others.

Joe began working on Monday and predicted that he would finish on Thursday. There were quite a few glitches that were out of his control; for example, missing hardware from the closet pack that was sold to us or the broken light fixture that was purchased. He was very professional, apologized for the setbacks and had to make several trips back to Home Depot and Lowe's. He was very committed to finishing the job to my standards no matter how much time it took. He was not about to rush the job even though he had the setbacks. He kept me informed and involved in minor decisions involving his work. He was very respectful of my family and our space as we were here in the house while he was working. I will definitely be calling Joe when the next job comes along. I highly recommend Joe to others who need work done in their home. You won't be disappointed.
Description of Work: * Replaced several interior doors and installed new hardware. * Replaced a door jamb. * Realigned an exterior door and installed a new threshold. * He installed weather stripping around the front door and interior furnace doors. * Installed new bi-fold closet doors including tracks and hardware. * Installed new light fixtures both inside and outside. * Repaired and textured bathroom wall. * Repaired deteriorating kitchen counter tile grouting. * Removed phone jack from kitchen wall and resurfaced wall so there was no remaining hole * Hung new towel racks in bathroom. * Installed a "P" drain

I had a pretty ambitious agenda for 8 hours, but Mr. Powers accomplished it all, including a trip to pick up some additional supplies. In the course of completing the job, he identified and corrected several problems caused by previous repair services, including an improperly hung microwave oven that was dangerously close to falling. His work was done neatly and professionally, and he made some very helpful suggestions about the job at hand and potential future work. I would definitely call on him again.
