Follow up as of June 3, 2009: I could not help to post again, wanting all Angie members to be warned again about this company. Especially since their comments to my listing were full of flat-out lies. I was "only available for small amounts of time in the mornings"-I took off whole Fridays for them to work; they would come for a couple hours and leave! Frustrated, I tried to get them to stay and finish the jobs even having to call their supervisor. This happened several times. Yes, they could not fit in the crawlspace and I did have to dig a trench. But instead of working on the outside outlets (THAT DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE CRAWLSPACE) they again used this as a reason to pack up and leave. Another one of my Fridays off wasted. "Homeowner installed a fuse on his own equipment incorrectly"...what?!!! No, YOUR electrician installed a separate shut-off unit YOU supplied with a breaker pull, not a FUSE! (By the way, this shut-off unit was installed by you later because your original work was not up to STANDARD electrical code!!!!) I was told the garage electrical work was done and working. That night I got home and tried to work in the garage and had no electricity. The supervisor came out the next day, agreed it did not work, and monkeyed with it for 20-30 minutes. He finally realized his shut-off unit pull switch was not pushed in far enough...and he is the main go-to guy!!! Warning to all: not only is the service horrible, but they will make false statements to drum up more business. Run from this company; there are tons of electricians in the Sacramento area!!!!
Description of Work: Electric connection to new tankless water heater. New sub-panel in garage. New outlets on outside of house. Lousy experience. Overall workmanship was fine, but horrible professionalism. We talked 1st week of October, told them wanted electric down by Halloween. Not finished until November 19th! Left work litter at every job site outside, in my house, in the garage (including sharp pieces of wire and metal on the ground). I took the day off from work, they sent a guy out I thought to start the whole job. He finished the hot water heater in a couple hours and left. I told him plenty of time to start working on the rest of the projects but he told me he was only to do one job. Scheduled again for a Wed. morning, nobody showed up. I called several times nobody answered the phone-they want on vacation or something and a women admitted to me that somebody was supposed to follow up on messages. Imagine just leaving your business for a week to an answering machine not explaining the situation? Sup. told me they had me scheduled for the following Wed.-but my home, work, and wife's calenders all said differently. Besides, that "following" Wed. morning I was scheduled to work weeks in advance and would not have scheduled that morning. Gave them the benefit of the doubt. The crew came out again-tried to get under the house and couldn't so game plane changed for the garage work. I told them fine, start working on the outside outlets...get the job moving. They instead told me they couldn't, they were only to work on the garage that day. I was upset and they mentioned that the sup. told them that I said I wanted the job broken up in parts??? What! Yeah, I wanted to schedule 3-4 separate appointments! This type of run-around went on for weeks. Finally, the job was "done" and I came home that Friday with plans to work the night in my garage prepping lumber for Sat. morning job. The electricity didn't work in the garage. I called the sup. and I was mad. It was still early in the evening, like 4-5 pm and he refused to send somebody out. It was my problem. He came out the next morning and fixed it, but I lost my night of prep work. In short, the garage electric could have been done in one day. The outlets and water heater could have been easily done in one day. But instead, I got the run around for weeks. Felt that my job was too little for them to really care. They left there business for days with no explanation, just an answering machine telling me to leave a message! Supervisor lied to his crew telling them I wanted the job done piecemeal! As if I wanted to keep taking time out of my busy schedule to wait around for electrical work to be finished! Horrible, frustrating experience.

Response from MEDINA & SON ELECTRIC CO INC
WE UNDERSTAND THAT WORKING WITH CONTRACTORS CAN BE AN OVERWHELMING EXPERIENCE FOR HOMEOWNERS. SCHEDULING CONFLICTS EXISTED IN THIS SITUATION BECAUSE THE HOMEOWNER WAS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR SMALL AMOUNTS OF TIME IN THE MORNINGS. REGARDING COMMUNICATION ISSUES; WE HAD TRIED TO CONTACT HOMEOWNER SEVERAL TIMES VIA CELL PHONE AND THE CELL PHONE WAS NOT IN SERVICE. IT WOULD NOT EVEN RING ON OUR END. (WE EVEN TRIED TO CALL HIM BACK IMMEDIATELY AFTER HANGING UP TO PROVE TO HIM HIS PHONE WAS NOT RECEIVING OUR CALLS FOR SOME STRANGE REASON.) THE FRIDAY NIGHT INCIDENT THAT HOMEOWNER SPEAKS OF, HOMEOWNER INSTALLED A FUSE ON HIS OWN EQUIPMENT INCORRECTLY. A TECHNICIAN WAS OUT ON SATURDAY MORNING AND FOUND THIS TO BE THE SITUATION. WE STRIVE TO MEET CUSTOMERS EXPECTATIONS, HOWEVER, SITUATIONS ARISE SUCH AS THE CRAWLSPACE UNDER THE HOUSE BEING TOO SMALL FOR PEOPLE TO CRAWL THROUGH, WHICH IS BEYOND ONES CONTROL. BECAUSE THERE WAS A CHANGE IN THE WORK, THE HOMEOWNER CHOSE TO DIG THEIR OWN DITCH. WE NEEDED TO WAIT FOR THAT TO BE COMPLETED, SO THAT TOOK MORE TIME. SOMETIMES THINGS HAPPEN AND WE TRY OUR BEST TO DEAL WITH THEM. WE ARE A SMALL FAMILY OWNED OPERATION. WE TRY TO PLAN OUR TIMES THE BEST WE CAN AND SOMETIMES IT JUST ISN'T ENOUGH FOR SOME.

My time is important too and I'm always surprised people can make a successful business while not taking care of their customers.
Description of Work: I called to schedule an appointment for an estimate. The phone was answered promptly & an appointment scheduled for the following day. No one showed up at the scheduled time to give me the estimate nor called to explain...kind of unprofessional if you ask me.

I called to request an estimate for a variety of electrical work. I set up an appointment for Jason to come on a Tuesday at 8 am to give me an estimate and I made it clear that I would have to go in late for work to meet with him at that time. I also gave him three contact numbers to reach me at (home, work, and cell). 8 o'clock Tuesday came and went with no Jason and no call. At 8:15 I tried the number for Medina and got an answering machine. At 8:30 I called again and got a receptionist. She told me that Jason had called in sick that day. When I suggested that a phone call to that effect would have been nice, she told me that he keeps his own appointment book, so she didn't know what appointments he might have had. My response to that is: (1) that seems like bad business practice; and (2) that still doesn't explain why Jason couldn't have called to let me know he wouldn't be by. She said she would give him a message to call me when he was back in the office to reschedule (she anticipated he would be back the following day--Wednesday). It's been more than a week and I still haven't heard anything further from them. So I wasted an hour of vacation time from work for nothing.

Not well since they did not preform work.
Description of Work: Showed up on time and was pleasant, was late giving estimate and after waiting for them to show up for work for 3 weeks, did not show and did not return phone message. They have caused me to have to live with and existing problem for an extra month while I waited for them not to show up.

I cannot speak highly enough of Medina. I called, Jason called the tenant and checked within three hours of the time I called, found the problem, fixed it, and did a super job. On top of the outstanding service I got a 5% Angie's List discount. I will definitely use them again.

Great! My husband and I lost a day messing around with a ceiling fan that would not work. Jason arrived on time and quickly figured out what we had been missing. Although the job was quick, my husband wanted to watch them fix what he could not. Jason explained what he was doing step by step. He gave us tips on reinstalling the ceiling fan (including giving us a few pieces we were missing) and even investigated a wiring issue in the basement. When he left he gave my husband his cell phone and told him to call anytime if he needed some more DYI advice. This was truly a great example of "going the extra mile." And...when I needed some in house phone repair I called Medina and Sons. Although they do not do that kind of work, I was given a referral and a phone number. Very helpful!

My call was answered pleasantly, and I was promptly scheduled for work the following day. The electrician was on time -- however, the fixture I had purchased at Home Depot was missing a part. His time was wasted, but he nicely explained that this isn't a rare occurrence. I was not charged for his time. I exchanged the fixture, following the electrician's advice to open the new box and check the parts. I rescheduled for a morning appointment two days later; I was called that morning and advised the electricians had been working on a job the prior evening and labor laws prohibit them working without a certain number of hours break -- my morning appointment was reset to 4 hours later [not an inconvenience to me]. Two electricians arrived early and completed the small tasks easily. They were professional, answered questions, gave advice, and cleaned up.

I scheduled an appointment for an estimate which was booked about two weeks ago for Friday, 3/9 at 4:00 p.m. I took off work (vacation time!) to be there for the estimate. 4:45 and still no electrician. I called and was told an unbelievable tale that the Jason who was suppose to come was sick and they didn't have my phone number. However, there are two Jason's and the Jason I was then talking to could come out on Monday. Why didn't he just come if he was there in the office when I called on Friday at 4:45? He knew there was an appointment that wasn't going to be kept. Not once did he say ''sorry''. A total waste of time!!

Jason the electrician quickly performed the work in the attic and inspected the sub- panel feeder. I had the County Building Dept. tell me that the existing sub-panel feeder had to be replaced. Jason said the panel feeder was OK according to the electrical code. He was correct. He could have sold me on a $1,400.00 rewire, but did not. He did an excellent, honest, workman like journeyman job. I am a retired electrician and I am 100% satisfied with the work and the price. I would not hesitate to use this company again or to refer them to anyone.

We scheduled a time with them, but they canceled due to illness once. Then we had to cancel the next time to get our fixtures rewired prior to installment. When we were ready to go, we had a hard time getting ahold of anyone there. I left a few messages over the course of a week or more before I finally reached a live person. Once we were able to reschedule, two electricians showed up and did the work. We're happy with the work and attitude of the employees. We were about to give up on them when they didn't return our calls in a reasonable time.
Description of Work: They removed two light fixtures for us and installed two new ones in their place. One of the light fixtures had to be moved and installed overhanging a stairwell (tough to get to).

Description of Work: This was the second company I called. Originally I had called Turner Electric who was mainly concerned about tripping a GFI, and when they couldn't find it, deduced I had pest problems. Thinking I was going to be spend a ton of money for repairs, I came onto Angie's List and found Medina Electric. They returned my calls. They made the appointment. When they showed up (early) they found that the problem wasn't at all pest, but that I had a loose connection in an outlet box in one of my bathrooms. Excellent (I thought). They fixed it, tested all the circuits and all was good. The issue I have with them is that when I asked them to put in a GFI switch, they didn't have one on their truck and had to go to Lowe's. They should have told me they were charging me for their time at Lowe's because they charged me for it! I was very upset about that! The worker said I had to call the office to talk to someone about that issue. I'm still waiting for that call back!

I usually perform my own home repairs, but this was beyond my capabilities. The company was courteous and professional on the phone and in person.
