They had to replace a blower motor in the furnace. They came out to analyze the problem, and then ordered the part. The scheduler called to set an appointment to install it. The service person who diagnosed the problem and replaced the motor was very professional. He arrived on time, performed the work quickly. We have used Clarke & Rush for over 10 years and have always been very satisfied with their services and the quality of their work.
Description of Work: We began hearing noise when the furnace started. Clarke & Rush sent a repairman the same day to determine the cause. He found the blower motor was make the noise and had to order a new one.

UPDATE (8/17/12): We have since been contacted by management at Clarke Rush regarding our situation as noted above and below. I have to commend them for swift action in reaching out to better understand our situation. We could tell it was in the spirit and desire of learning what could have gone better, while providing top customer service. We discussed our situation and we feel better in terms of what and how the tech should have handled our situation. We have since upgraded our ratings of Clarke Rush and amended some of the information above and below based on their handling of our situation, which included a full refund. We would also add that we consider working with them at a future date. We can't say how much we appreciated the gestures extended by both Pat and Kevin. Thank you! The service tech in the course of performing work above, made it very clear that his "fix" would only last a few days, and that we'd need to talk to them again about either pulling the furnace out of closet to remedy the poor job of running condensation line or to get a whole new HVAC system. His rationale....if we have to pull the HVAC to redo the condensation line, you're already paying the labor that would just about be equal to that of putting a new one in - and since our unit is 13 yrs old, you might as well just do it. He then went on to abruptly explain that my system at 13 yrs old was worn out because we hadn't maintained a strict annual servicing routine, and consequently my entire system was worn out. His quote, "you change your oil regularly, don't you"! It took all I could do to stay calm. We paid our bill, and thought about what took place above. You know what...we didn't believe there was anything wrong with the unit. We called a family friend in the industry who referred us to Comfort Masters. Comfort Tech reviewed the situation and quickly dispelled the notion that we needed a new system. He said while the furnace was a tight fit in the installed closet, the condensation lines were routed properly given the scenario. He even showed me where the cap on a section of the condensation line which was designed to pop off to blow out the line. He commented that there was no reason for the Clarke & Rush tech to even cut into PVC at the place he did. In terms of the area of the PVC Clarke & Rush cut into, Larry was shocked to see the PVC was just pushed in and was not sealed with glue. Of course it would leak! Comfort Masters found that we were 1lb short on refrigerent, which we agreed to him taking care of. Meanwhile, during the visit by Clark & Rush, the tech commented that we might be low on refrigerant, but he didn't go outside to check.
Description of Work: My wife came home to leaking water onto our hardwood floors. With hot weather and HVAC running a lot....figured condensation line was plugged. She called Clarke & Rush late in the afternoon and they had someone to the house within an hour - which is was great, but was followed by challenges. Here is what the service tech attempted to do. 1. Determine cause of leak. 2. Access condensation line to blow out obstruction In the course of the 30-40 minutes he was at our house, he said condensation line was not installed for easy access to blow out, and that he'd have to "cut into" the PVC to attempt to repair. We had to sign a waiver saying in essence it might not work, but he wouldn't have suggested if he didn't believe he couldn't complete the repair. After 10-15 minutes he said he had opened up PVC, blew out line, but that it was going to continue to drip because he wasn't able to properly fix where he cut PVC because of how he had to access in order to perform condensation line evacuation. $289 later, we had a still properly functioning (cooling) HVAC that was leaking at PVC fitting onto a rag he left behind. See below for more details.

The overall experience has been very positive. They were here a day and a half and things went very smoothly.
Description of Work: Clarke and Rush installed a Carrier Infinity 20 with Greenspeed technology. The price was great. The unit is cutting edge technology and my tile floor house is no longer a refrigerator but a cozy warm home. The unit is very efficient and sits outside my bedroom window and I have never heard it. My neighborhood is all electric and the standard heat pump pumps out cold air from the vents when starting to heat the house. This new variable speed heat pump actually pumps out warm air. I am so happy. I also purchased an air purifier. The installation crew, Mike and Steve, were very knowledgeable, professional, and performed a very clean and neat installation with great attention to detail. I almost didn't use this company because of the bad reviews but I am so glad that I did some further investigation and I am not a bit disappointed. You guys rock!

They did a great job with the Central A/C. I got an estimate for my window which has a Window A/C, and the company has window people. During the AC job, there was a window guy that came out and gave me an estimate. It was a decent price, I was interested in purchasing but not quite yet. After three months of unresponsive phone calls to get that estimate, they would not honor the estimate they told earlier.

They came over on time. Decided the main computer board in the unit needed to be replaced. They ordered the part and returned about 2 weeks later. Installed the board and said all was fixed. The next day I called back because it was still doing some of the same things. They said the same tech would be there the next day. He never came, I called back and they rescheduled a return visit a couple days later. He called to say he was running late. Finally arrives and resets the thermostat from its default setting to make it work. Here it is 5 months later and the same problems are being repeated. I called and they said labor is not covered so it would cost us a minimum of $104.00 for a diagnosis plus whatever is needed to fix the problem. I decided this could go on and on so I decided to use a different company. UPDATE: I did accept the offer for 2 free maintenance calls and have scheduled the work to be performed in May when the AC unit will be more likely to be used.
Description of Work: Our thermostat kept blinking and gave error messages. It just seemed to turn on the AC or turn it off regardless is the temperature setting was met.

I cannot "prove" that Clark & Rush did something to my system; however, I don't trust them. I don't know about "variable systems ... contacters... or switches." However, after having the original service provider (not Clarke & Rush) give my system a "pass" I wonder how Clarke and Rush can report that I need, what I consider to be, expensive repairs.
Description of Work: Received a promotional flyer for $29.00 "Fall Tune-up" from Clarke and Rush. We had an AC tune-up done by a different company during June 2011 (a few months before). After our coils were cleaned, everything worked fine. Since the flyer from Clarke and Rush seemed like such a good price, we decided to get it inspected. We did not know that a Heat Pump system would not necessarily require a check in the Fall. The Clarke and Rush Serviceman came out on time and inspected our system. He indicated that the compressor and fan were not working at all & needed work because the "contactor" was not connecting. He said that he did a "temporary fix" but the switch needed to be replaced. On a receipt, he reported that the price to fix it would be about $314. We declined. He cautioned that running the heat "too much" may wear out or damage the motor, and said that just for them to come out again would tack on $105 more. We called the company who originally serviced the system in June who offered to come out for a free inspection. They reported that the contactor did not need to be replaced -despite some "black spots". Also, that serviceman said that the "dip switches" were on wrong settings. He explained that my "variable system" was regulated by these switches. He said that, in June, the switches were in the correct position. Now, they were not. He also said that the "Conactor" was good until summer and would cost about $175 (not $314 + $105 service call) to replace. Well, I cannot account for the "dip switches" being set to the wrong position. I do know that the only two people to touch the system were the people in June -and our system worked find and Clarke and Rush on 11/4/11 who claimed that we needed $314.00 of repairs.

I'm sorry for the difficulty we had upon servicing your heat pump. It seems that our technician found wear on your 10 year old heat pump contactor. Pitting only gets worse, once found, on these devices and can lead to compressor failure. Pitting, or black spots, are not acceptable. They cause welding of the contactor points and/or compressor winding failure. There is a wide range of quality in these devices as well and that could account for the price difference. I wish I could account for the dipswitch change but technicians typically wouldn't make independent changes without guidance from the homeowner, or "let well enough alone". My unit is working but I feel that I got ripped off. I am retired and used to work in electronics and I know that a capicator of that kind only runs about $20.00 and I did expect a mark up, but $191 for a $20.00 part.
Description of Work: I was quoted a $104 service charge plus parts. The Technician found a bad start capicator and replaced it. It took him all of 10 minutes. He then charged me $295. That comes out to $195 dollars for a $20.00 part. What gets me is that I had allreay taken off the panels.It took him longer to write the bill. The total time at my house was around 20 minutes.

I received a quote from Clark and Rush for replacement of the HVAC package unit. They sent out a estimator/salesman. It ended up the quote was a bit high compared to others but that could be because the company is larger.

I am unhappy with them and I would not recommend them. They came and had this list of things that needed to be done in a house. They went ahead and checked everything and I was ready to get the job done. I found that if I paid them $19.95 then I would get special price for future work and I would be their priority customer. I paid them that. I have an old house and I decided to use them. They, however, never showed up. I waited for a couple of days. I called them and they said that the guy I used was sick and they were not ready to send somebody else. That was very weird. After that they said that the guy had quit. I again asked them to send somebody else and they never followed through.
Description of Work: I used Calrke & Rushme Chanical Inc a year ago for an estimate to repair a sink, change a faucet, and some toilet work.

On that contract was a list of improvements with the discounts listed. They finished sooner than promised. There was a little problem with the lathe and plaster splitting off, but repair work was done immediately. The only problem was with the salesman who originally gave me my quote. He gaves promises that he later retracted. When I called him on it, he called me a liar. Fortunately, the guys that actually did the installation were able to comply with my request (to put vents directly over doors). But it was very frustrating dealing with the sales man. There seems to be a disconnected between what the sales guy says and what can actually be done. The salesman was not a construction worker nor did he have experience actually installing HVAC, but he acted like he did. I also got a plumbing estimate and the guy that gave me that estimate had been a plumber for years and was going to supervise the plumbing on my house. He was very fair and honest. Although I don't need plumbing just yet, I am going to keep him in mind when I do.

They have been coming out for several years. I have nver had any problems with the staff or billing at all. They always clean up after themselves, are freindly and helpful if I have questions and have actually told me when a repair wasn't worth the money.
