+ -1 moreSeveral years after the house was built, I felt that I needed to replace the brand new, inadequate, 3 ton, air conditioner with a 5 ton unit. We purchased Beutler's so called "Smart Vent" when the house was built ($1,500), but never got any satisfaction with it's ability to cool the house at night. It needed to run all night in order to reduce the bedroom temp 3-4⁰ (78 ⁰to-75⁰). Whenever I complained, their response was the same, "It works the way it was designed to". It was advertized as a way to cool the house at night without having to open windows (a so-called "security" issue). I finally figured out that the problem seemed to be that while it did in fact suck in the cooler outside air, the exiting air only had 4-6 1" holes for the air to escape. In other words, it never circulated or replaced any air from inside to outside, it only diluted the existing inside air. In addition to replacing the "legal" (at the time), inadequate, AC early on, we recently took out the "Smart Vent" and replaced it with a whole house fan. I should have done that 8 years ago as well.
Description of Work: Beutler was the HVAC contractor ("Low Bidder") when this house was built in 2005. We had a number of service calls in the beginning, and all were frustrating. Additionally, in the 8 years since, while I've tried to unravel the annoyances with the AC system, I have never spoken to anyone in the AC/Heating business that had anything good to say about these guys.

They were willing to give a good price because two units were being done at the same time. The experience was good if there was a problem they came back out immediately to correct it. They even gave me a thank you basket for my business.

+ -1 moreI was not pleased with the pressure to make a decision right that moment to spend a heck of a lot of money. I called another company a few weeks later (Blake's) and for 289.00 they replaced defective parts and it ran fine, they said no need to replace the entire unit.
Description of Work: Our A/C stopped working so I called Beutler for an estimate for repairs. The technician was on time. He checked out the unit and said that there were 3 or 4 parts that had gone bad, and that because it was 15 years old it was not surprising that it had died, and that some of that was my fault based on how I was running it. He recommended complete replacement of the HVAC at a cost of approximately 15K. I told him I would have to think it over and discuss with my husband. He saw my husband in the kitchen and said "why don't you ask him right now?"

Description of Work: This company is absolutely despicable!!! I called them out to my house because my heater wasn't working. Their employee Brian informed me that my system was in horrible condition and that the previous owners had probably never even used an air filter on the system the entire time they lived in the house. The house is 11 years old and we bought it 3 years ago and have never had a problem with it before. He told me that they could clean the system for the discounted price of $995, but that the system was in such bad condition that it would probably still not work. He asked if he could have another guy come out to take a look at, and that the new guy could come over when both my husband and myself were home so that we could discuss our options. What do I know, It sounded plausible. Brian seemed like a really nice guy. I even made him a cup of coffee. The other guy showed up that night with a third guy to discuss our options. They informed us that indeed they could clean the ducts, but that the system was pretty much shot and probably would need several things replaced just to work at all. They said we were better off replacing it now and that they had a no interest 24 month plan if we could get credit approval. The systems started at a minimum of $10,000. We told them we would think about it, and asked if we could get copies of the prices. They said that they weren't allowed to give us copies. They did say that they would check if they might have some cheaper ones in the wharehouse and that they would call us if they did. We thanked them and they left. The next day I joined Angie's List and made a couple more phone calls to other companies. I had TASK (Total Air System Kleaning) come out. They looked at the system and told me that my $25.00 thermostat was broken and that I could get a new one easily enough at Home Depot. They charged me nothing because there was nothing else wrong with it. They even said I could wait a little while on the cleaning. I then called back Beutler and talked to a manager. I explained everything that had happened and he said that he stood by what his employees said, but that he could come out and discuss it with me further. I told him I was not interested in ever having anyone from their company in my house again. I asked him for my $89.00 back and he said that his employee had come out and performed the service, so I was not entitled to a refund. I then told him that I would be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. Four days later I received my uncashed check in the mail. There was a letter from him to the billing office telling them not to cash my check, because he had spoken with me and that the situation could escalate. I assume they didn't mean to include his letter to them in the envelope I received. So, even though I got my money back, I would urge anyone to think twice about hiring this company for anything!

+ -1 moreBeutler was awesome. I called them early morning and received a phone call back within a couple of hours. Over the phone, the owner told me to replace my filter and see if that worked first. He didn't want to charge me a service fee if it was something so simple. I really respect that he wasnt' just trying to get money from me. I changed the filter and it sill didn't work. He was out the next day to start the repair. He then followed up within and few days to make sure it was working properly. It was at that point that I paid for the services. I would recommend them to anyone. He is great, honest, dependable and affordable.
Description of Work: My air conditioner was repaired. A vent in my attic was frozen.

The $700 cost wasn't just for the capacitor and relay, but I also signed up for the twice-yearly service check/repair program. Been using these guys for 12 years and they're real pros, explaining everything.

+ -1 morePurchased Beutler Home Service Plan at the annual cost of $169.00. Called for maintenance in early July. First available appointment was for 08/15/12 between 12:00pm and 4:00pm. After waiting for over six (6) weeks for service on my unit, I received a phone all on 08/14/12 requesting to reschedule my appointment because no maintenance technician was available due to the high volume of air conditioning calls and told afterall my unit was operable. Beutler installed my Lennox Heating, Air & Air Purification System. Wasn't told the Pure Air filter and light that needed to be replaced would be a hefty cost of just under $300.00 twice yearly. I don't recommend senior citizens living on a fixed income use Beutler Services.

+ -1 moreour original air-conditioning unit in our house went out, so they were the people we called to install a new unit. They were polite to work with, but the job ended up running about a month late. That was fine, was kind of expected at beginning of summer season. The 1st problem we had, was after the installation was completed. We went on vacation to Illinois. And when we got back, my daughter noticed the paint running down the wall in our master bedroom. I went up to the attic see what was causing the leak and they did not connect the PVC drainage pipe in the attic so it ran down my walls for 2 weeks. At the time I called to notify them about the situation since I had not paid them the full amount on the job. they did set send someone out to fix the drywall, and I agreed to go ahead and do the painting. We came to the agreement that they would take 500 off the total cost, which I thought was fair at time. But I never took into consideration water had ran under my hardwood floor so it had to be replaced and ruined part of the floor in my bathroom. but that was my fault for not thinking about that possibility. One other thing that they did was move the location of the heating unit directly over my whole house fan, so when the whole house fan is on it blows directly on the heating unit sitting about 15 inches above in the attic.The one thing I thought remarkable, was it came with a 2 year maintenance plan, the second year when the guy came down the stairs from checking it for the upcoming season, he looked at me and said he would make sure everything was tip/top, because he was embarrassed at the install job that had been done, and that he had seen nothing like it! As I am writing this, my furnace has to be repaired again, for the upcoming winter (20212) I realize everybody gets a lemon now and then, but this was the worst purchase I"ve ever made!!! + -1 moreI decided to check out Beutler because they were associated with home depot and we could use our credit card. Gardner, as sales rep came to our modular home and spend a lot of time explaining options, measuring, going under the house, etc. He was very complete in his approach. One thing I wish for in retrospect is a more thorough breakdown of the cost of time and materials rather than a single lump sum for completion. He was very professional all the way down to his blue protective boot covers he always wore into the house. We agreed and a date was set. On the following Saturday with our schedule in hand waiting for replacement to happen we got a call from Beutler saying upon inspection our furnace had a dent and needed replacement. We had to postpone another week for install--they should have checked this sooner. Upon our second scheduled install they appeared on time and got right to the work at hand and completed the job of both furnace replacement, coil, and condenser in about half a day. The installation was very complete and professional and they took great care in tuning the system with right amount of refrigerant to give us optimal cooling. The only issue was, "Where were the blue booty foot coverings during install?" Just a little detail but it is something they state they will do. Not a deal breaker but just a detail they should know about. Upon completion the house was cool again and we were happy again. We were able to extend our financing to 24 months without interest and they even promised a case of filters for the problem with the first installation scheduling. We are still awaiting the inspections so nothing to add about that. In general a very positive experience. They were early or on time. The price was as quoted. They finished before we thought they would. The finished experience was cool, cool, cold. I would hire them again and also recommend them highly.
Description of Work: They fitted us for a new furnace, coil, and condenser in or modular home. Due to the code and construction limitations of the design of our home they were limited in what could be fit but they bent over backwards to improve upon what we had. They took away the old and brought in the new. They located the leak from previous system and engaged in a repair vs replace on the day of replace. Never felt locked in or forced to do either. They checked all the duct work. They measured the air flow at the registers and they also measured the temp at the registers and the intake to make sure we had an acceptable ratio between intake hot and output cold--a formula of sorts, I guess. It all made sense and they worked very hard to get us back to better than before. They were very competent.

I have been using them for 7 years. To me they met my standards, were polite, and did it in a reasonable amount of time.

The person didn't clearly state who she was or who she was calling for, when I tried to clarify she became offend. She was not helpful, didn't understand that I was calling to have a new unit installed and had to place me on hold to check if their company could install a unit at a home that didn't have a unit already. Not to mention her immediately wanting to get all my information but sounded offended when I asked where her company was located and what brands they carried. I was told I would receive a phone call the next morning to schedule someone out. I, instead, received a call shortly before lunch the next day from a gentleman who informed me he took the liberty of pricing a unit for me based on the information he had which was the address and it would cost me $12,000.00-$15,000.00. Very unprofessional from first contact. The gentleman who took the liberty to price my home needs did not ask me what I wanted, did not schedule a visit nor arrived at the home or even ask for any details about my home. I would not deal with this company even if I had not found someone who had already been professional by phone, arrived at my home, did the walk through and discussed with me my needs for heating and cooling my home with a much better price.

We actually researched it on the internet and the air-filtration system is usually about $2500 including installation and they sold us the system and installed it for just $1200. They are going to do further monthly service to inspect and tune up the system and they have already charged $200 for that. Their quality of work was good. We would use them again in the future too.

+ -1 more.The first time they came, they did a little bit of work that they considered necessary. The second time they came, the man claimed that much more work needed to be done. He claimed that we needed the whole system replaced, which I don't believe was true. It seemed like this employee was trying to make us spend much more than we really needed to pay. They were not professional and not very courteous. I would not recommend them.

+ -1 moreOriginally, it was time for a twice yearly checkup for the unit. 2 technicians came out instead of the usual one. They checked all the equipment and said there was a part that needed replacing, which would cost about $8oo. I felt that the second man really came along to convince me to buy a new unit, which he did. I chose the model and price that I wanted. The price was $11,000. but Beutler would give me a $1000. rebate. The feds would give me a rebate, as will Roseville Electric company and PG&E, which brings my cost down to approx. $9000. The old unit was 12 years old and I felt it would have to be replaced soon. I was really glad to have it when we had all the heat this month. It works quietly and well.
Description of Work: The workmen (3) arrived at 8:30 and got right to work. First they had to remove the old heating unit from the attic, no easy job. Then they installed the new unit in the attic. The opening cover to the attic was cracked so they replaced it with a new painted cover. Then they removed the a/c unit from outside and replaced it with the new Amana unit. One man hooked that up and got that ready. The ducts in the attic did not need replacing. They finished up about 2:30, then showed me how to adjust the new thermostat. Replacing a battery in that will be easier than in the old one. They showed me the written work report and I signed it. They cleaned everything up.

Unfortunately, he did not have the exact part on his truck so he called the offfice, ordered the part and advised me to call to schedule the appointment to install. I did as he suggested, they scheduled the appointment for the next day (Saturday) and the repair occurred at the early end of the time window on Saturday and the AC unit has been working fine since.

+ -1 moreThe work was fine. The frustration was waiting 2 weeks for them to come out to do an estimate and then it was another 2 weeks to do the work. I needed the AC unit moved to pour a concrete patio, so it delayed that job by a month. I only had them do it because they did the original install.
