The gas furnace would not turn on. Peter checked the obvious switches and valves. He then called Air Master Heat and Air. $75 for a service call. The technician arrived and determined the ignition system was faulty and had to be replaced. Then he looked at the thermostat and said it was mis-wired. Peter protested that the thermostat has been working fine for over 17 months(this two minute repair was charged at $30, their minimum for work). The technician finally agreed to waive the $30. However, the invoice still reflected the $30 charge. Peter called an Angie's List company. The tech arrived on time, diagnosed the problem as a faulty gas valve(NOT THE IGNITION SYSTEM). He replaced the valve. He checked the furnace turn-on for several thermostat settings. It works perfectly.
Description of Work: The gas furnace would not turn on. The Air Master technician diagnosed a faulty ignition system. He also installed a jumper wire in the thermostat. The second technician from an Angie's List firm diagnosed a faulty gas valve, NOT the ignition system. He installed a new valve. The furnace works perfectly.

WE FOUND NO SIGNAL TO THE UNIT FROM THERMOSTAT DUE TO MISSING RC-RH CONNECTION WHICH WE ADDED AND TOOK CARE OF IT. HOWEVER, THE ALLEGED VALVE WAS ONLY RECEIVING POWER FOR A FRACTION OF SECOND INSTEAD OF 10-15 SECONDS IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE GETTING. HE THOUGHT WE SHOULD NOT CHARGE HIM FOR MISSING BYPASS REPAIR SO WE OFFERED HIM THE 30.00 BACK WHEN OTHER REPAIR, MAINLY THE IGNITION MODULE, WAS PERFORMED! HIS FURNACE GOT A WHITE ROGER 50A50 CONTROL THAT IS KNOWN FOR ACTING UP FROM TIME TO TIME. I CHECKED THAT SYSTEM MYSELF & HAD NO REASON TO CONDEMN THE VALVE. I AM SURE IF THE VALVE WAS REPLACED BY SOMEBODY ELSE, THERE IS PROBABLY A BAD REVIEW ON THAT COMPANY AS WELL BY THIS CUSTOMER. I GAVE HIM HIS 30.00 BACK REGARDLESS & HE IS STILL NOT HAPPY. GOOD LUCK!
