They were prompt and polite. It was a small patch job for indoor ceiling drywall and it was quoted $1,200. I paid him $30 for coming out and giving the estimate. Me and my daughter went to Home Depot and for, like, $30 we fixed it ourselves. He explained to me that the paint wouldn't match up after they got done and he was going to have to paint the whole ceiling and half of the room after he finished that repair. And when my daughter and I finished that was not so, we were able to match the paint and the putty and everything that we used perfectly and it wasn't even noticeable.
Description of Work: Home Solutions Construction gave me an estimate for water damage.

I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you, but I honestly don't remember this call. I certainly don't remember collecting money for an estimate because I do not charge for estimates. As for paint matching I do use a disclaimer stating "I can not guarantee an exact match".

The project began on time and basically finished about on time. A few days of delays, but not a big deal. Scheduled two inspections from the city of Sacramento and both of those were completed on time.
Description of Work: Partial Remodel of a bathroom, including removing ceramic tile on vanity top and shower/bathtub, installing new tile, installing new vanity countertop; installing new plumbing and faucets for bathtub, shower, and sink.

Having strangers come into your home and, while you are at work, demolish part of your home, is certainly daunting. Will they do what is asked? Will my house be standing when I get home from work? We've all heard the horror stories...Well, this story is different and has a very happy ending. Before the project was started, I was presented with a very well-thought out proposal which outlined everything that was to be done, so there was no guessing or wondering. Let's face it, in the best of circumstances, remodeling projects are stressful and no one needs the added stress of wondering of something they thought was included in the price is not. Come demo day and each day thereafter, Shawn and his crew were punctual, courteous and professional. Each day, the area was cleaned up and vacuumed before they left so I could still move around during the construction. Shawn listened to my ideas and concerns and the finished wall was exactly as I pictured it in my mind. I went from having a rather claustrophobic area in my house to an open and airy living space that greatly enhances the value of the home. Shawn was easily accessible via text, telephone or e-mail and he was prompt in his responses. His crew was respectful of my home as they worked in my absence. As with every construction or remodel project, there were some glitches and the mark of a great business owner and professional is how the contractor handles those glitches. Shawn was the ultimate professional demonstrating that my being happy with the finished wall was his only concern. I would hire him again in a second. As a matter of fact, before he even finished this job, I approached him about my next, and much larger, job which is completely remodeling, and moving, my current kitchen. Call Shawn for a quote.
Description of Work: Shawn converted the wall between by living room and kitchen converted to a half wall. I had planned to post before and after photos, but I see that is not a feature on the website.

I am sorry for the final results of your project. I believe this review to be completely unfair. I had my drywall person on site to do your project and after he cut out the water damaged sheet rock you called me and complained about how my workers smelled like tobacco smoke and you could not have them in your home. As I informed your husband, I will complete your project, however I am not a drywall person. I did the best I could. Was I to leave a big hole in your ceiling? Was I to walk away from your project? What really concerns me, is you didn't want them in your home because they smelled of tobacco smoke. I am a smoker as well and how can they smell and I don't?

Shaun and team overall did a solid job. We are very happy with his work. Home Solutions Construction started the job on January 5th and it completed March 23rd. We also replaced carpet on the stairs and whole upstairs floor where the bedrooms were as well as redid the flooring in the Master bath. Shaun was not responsible for these work items but was very flexible in working around these activities with the other contractors and building a timeline around it. Shaun provided a very thorough plan to include timelines and costs for Demo work, rough-ins, drywall/pain, vanity/countertop, and tiling. His crew was prompt and courteous and very flexible when we had a few change orders. We did have a minor leak issue after installing the tub in the master bath. We called Shaun around 9:00pm one night and he drove out immediately to see the issue. Next day his crew came back out and fixed the issue and gave us a credit and replaced a few kitchen lights for our troubles without us asking. This showed his professionalism and commitment to high quality work. I would recommend Home Solution Construction for anyone wanting a trusting contractor that stands behind quality workmanship. I am preparing for another bath remodel for my rental property and will most likely use Shaun and team again.
Description of Work: Shaun and team provided a Master Bath remodel as well as a second room cabinet replacement and replaced 3 toilets (2 upstairs and 1 down stairs).

This was the second bathroom Home Solutions renovated at my residence. I was happy with the first bathroom renovation that Home Solutions completed. I felt comfortable to re-hire Home Solutions for my master bath. The contractor and I discussed the design of the master bath. I bought all of the materials for the master bath, ie shower tile, bathroom floor tile, vanity, light, mirror, toilet, shower floor pebbles, shower door, shower and vanity faucets and all other essentials. The contractor had sub-contractors do the majority of the work. I also had a hall closet adjacent to the bath demolished to add space to my tiny 4 1/2 ' by 8' bathroom. After the demolition of the master bath, there was an adjustment to the shower at my request. Somehow it was not discussed fully, (partially the contractor's fault and partially my fault), this led to an extra expense with the shower I felt should not have happened and the final shower design was not exactly the way I wanted. The second time I sent a question to the contractor via a text. Instead of asking what I meant, the contractor came over and he moved the vanity, which is NOT what I wanted. This left extra holes in the back of the vanity. Unfortunately, this became a re-occurring theme of this construction. My two biggest complaints with this contractor is he did not discuss things with me and he did not oversee the work of his sub- contractors. I found numerous items (over 60) that needed to be corrected. The contractor never balked at these corrections, and had the sub-contractors redo the work. When they corrected those items, they created more items to be corrected. The contractor again had the work fixed. I feel that these problems would not have happened if the sub-contractors had gone slower and checked their work or Shawn monitored the job more closely. One big item was the fact I bought the wrong size of glass shower door for the shower. The sub-contractor never measured the doors before installing and cut the frame of the doors. This created an opening too small for entrance into the shower. The contractor refunded the cost of the shower doors but I had to order new ones that delayed the completion of the master bath. Several times I was never given a time the sub-contractors were to arrive or they were late or never showed. This job took several months because my job required me to be out of town many times during the project. This created problems when things had to be discussed and bought by me. I have no one to blame on the length of the job. Home Solutions was under budget and up front about the discount that Angie's List provides when I go through one of the listed contractors. The other contractors I had interviewed never spoke of the discount. The completed master bathroom is beautiful and I get many compliments. I am happy with the end product. I could not give better ratings due to the above reasons of punctuality and quality due to the sub-contractors work. I have since had my hardwood floor installed and discovered that Home Solutions did not bring the tile to my guest bath to the proper location to meet the floor. Also, I have since discovered that the hall closet door knob was not installed properly. The cut of the baseboard against the tile in guest bathroom was backwards. Did not paint baseboards in both bathrooms. After upgrade he left original door jambs on both bathrooms even after I had bought the wood for them. I guess you pay for what you get. Never again. My suggestion if you use them is to monitor them closely. If you are unfamiliar with how a remodel should go, as I was you might want someone familiar with remodels to monitor the work.

Thank You for this review. I admit we did have some problems with this bathroom both in communication and look. I hope the finished product is what you wanted. Please be aware the only sub contractors used on your project was for the hot mop on the shower pan and the texture on the walls and ceiling. We did have some issues with the texture and we resolved them. For our end, we did drop the ball on a couple of occasions and for that I do apologize. Home Solutions does take our finished product seriously and we truly do want our customers happy.

Shawn Boelman and his crew took out and replaced the old cabinets, fixtures, shower stall, and flooring in an upstairs bathroom We asked that the shower stall be enlarged and Shawn gave us great input in the best way to accomplish that given the structure of the house. They were very professional and arrived promptly. Shawn is very knowledgeable regarding code requirements and gave great advice regarding our choice of fixtures.

Started shower remodel in November, 2014. Everything went well to start. Sean and his partner were very considerate and here each time he said he would be out. He had several jobs at the time he was doing my shower which slowed the process down as he had to go to other projects while doing mine. Had I known that, I would have insisted he stay with my project and finish it. As it was he didn?t complete the job until January 2015. I did have several things I noticed while he was doing the job and had him change, such as the tile was not symmetric in several places. Which I thought a good tile man would have known. However, he did change when asked. Now that I use the shower, I notice that the grout around the drain is not even, and a few of the pieces of grout are breaking off. Also, the grout around the tile on the walls is not evenly spaced. I then noticed that there is water seeping from the inside corner of the shower. It fills a paper towel with water and the bottom of the shower stall is probably not level. I called him out to see if he could fix it, and he came out to look, and I was assured it was not a big deal. Well, I assumed that was correct, but I still was not happy that it oozed water. So I texted him a said I wanted it fixed, that I was not happy with it. Well, he did not answer and have not heard from him. Additional Information: He called back after offering his review. The day that he called unexpectedly after reading my review, I explained that I was not going to be home and that I would be home any other day. We made arrangements for him to come out and look at the seeping water in the shower yesterday 5/15. What a waste of time! He came out and told me the exact same thing he did the first time that he came out, it is normal for seepage if you put material that will absorb water up against the area that is seeping it will draw water out. I suggested that by possibly replacing a few of the tiles and additional grout on the bottom by where the water is seeping out that maybe that would fix it. He said he could do that with an additional CHARGE! I said forget it, most reputable companies want to make sure that the work is done well, and the customer is happy with the finished product. If he has to charge to fix a problem that was his in the first place, I wouldn't want the problem "fixed" by them. I would never recommend his company that was graded here on Angie's List as "A:" rating. I will be reluctant to use any contractors rated "A" here. The situation has worsen and caused little puddles of water around the bottom of the tile. I have contacted another company and they have informed me that the situation will only become worse and the water will eventually leak outside of the shower and into the walls. I would not recommend him as he clearly does not know how to put in tile. If I want the situation fixed I am going to have to put in a new shower.

Hello [Member name removed], I am sorry you are unhappy with your shower and our work. Part of the wait time was ordering new tile to change the tile you said was not symmetrical. This is in reference to the bullnose tile grout line not lining up to the tile grout line. I laid the tile in a standard pattern. You were not happy with that, I changed it to your request. There was a waiting time for tile to arrive. It takes a week to a week and a half for the shower glass to be measured and installed. This added more time. A tile shower pan is made with a mortar bed approx. 2" deep. This will retain water for a long period of time, it is allowed to seep out through weep hole located in the shower drain. So naturally when you place a paper towel (designed to soak up water) on your tile it will soak up the moisture. You are right, I did have several projects going at that time. It did not effect you or your project, as for responding to your call, I did come out and look at it. I did explain the shower pan system to you. When you called a second time, I answered and tried to make an appointment, but your were busy that day. Home Solutions takes pride in our workmanship and its customer service. We are very sorry we could not reach that mark for you. Sincerely, Shawn G. Boelman Owner Home Solutions (916) 730-6777 CSL# 974736

All the workers were polite, tidy & concerned about keeping the house clean. Tile installer did an absolutely fantastic job & very pleased with employee who installed vanity and handled customizing the vanity drawer to avoid plumbing under the sink. Very satisfied with work done.
Description of Work: They completely gutted master bath and removed all drywall and floor damaged by dryrot. Then re-built everything and brought all electrical up to code (old 1955 house) in both bathrooms, installed new toilet, vanity (had to do custom work on one drawer to make plumbing work), mirror and two new outlets, one on the hall side of shower wall (love that hall outlet!!). New beautiful tiled shower and floor! Also installed new door.

The contractor, Shawn, had a man who worked with us initially, sales guy and working with us on what we wanted, design issues, cost issues and all that. The intention was that he would be our primary contact person, and Shawn would do the actually do the work along with subcontractors for tile, granite, and cabinets. This initial contact person didn't work out for us. He made some errors in design which could have been costly had I not caught the problem, and I didn't feel he was paying attention. So Shawn agreed to take over his duties, and he was smart, responsive, obviously very experienced doing these kinds of projects. I trust him and the work he does, and the quality of the finished work is excellent. We did a lot of the design choices, picking granite, picking tile, and this was actually a lot of work. We looked and priced a lot of tile. But this was mostly our choice. We had good support choosing cabinets from Home solutions. I had studied contracts so I knew what an appropriate contract should be, and the contract we had was pretty thorough. Our main concern was that we wanted the work not to be interrupted by other customers. Once the kitchen was torn out we wanted the work to go swiftly, and this did occur as scheduled, and we had scheduled 3 weeks from start to finish. Competent, professional, cleaned up everyday. We're happy.
Description of Work: Stripped out the old kitchen, everything there was. he didn't have to move walls, but a lot of electrical needed to meet the needs of new appliances, multiple outlets for countertops and so forth. Tile floor was installed, multiple appliances were installed and wired, assisted with design for cabinets and countertops, and all new cabinets installed and are beautiful, and custom, granite counter tops installed and seamless and beautiful. Wall tile placed to highlight stove hood, excellent tile contractor provided. All new lighting installed including cabinet lighting. We love our new kitchen and it looks as new as yesterday.

It went very well. I know very little about bath renovations. Shawn Boelman's advice was consistently focused on customer benefit, For instance: choosing PEI grade of tile for floor vs. shower walls. Vicki Boelman talked to staff at Lowe's to find the best tile (color, hardness and availability of quantity needed) for job. The entire project was done in timely manner. Shawn arranged city building inspection and booked Yvette Cotta house cleaning service to finish job. Everyone associated with the job was courteous and respectful. I am very pleased with outcome. I highly recommend Home Solution Construction to anyone thinking of renovation.
Description of Work: Near total renovation master bath: tile floor, new tiled shower with new shower pan w/hot mop, new toilet, new shower doors, lighting w/fan, removed wallpaper & painted walls in shower/toilet section. I kept original sinks, mirror & overhead lights and wallpaper in vanity area, but had two new vanity faucets installed. The bath tile was extended to include adjoining closet floor. The hall bathroom floor was tiled and new toilet installed. New faucet in vanity and bullnose tile set in surrounding existing tub/shower.

Having found a highly rated company offering a great deal, I was excited to go ahead and get my sad shower stall re-tiled. I really wanted to get this work done, but Home Solutions has been so non-responsive that I have had to cancel the contract. It took awhile to get an initial appointment with Shawn, and he was late to the first appointment. He did measurements, I requested a couple of extra items for the shower, and he said he'd get back to me with an estimate for the additional work. This took at least ten days, I finally received it on 6/22. When I received the estimate I had a couple of additional clarifying questions and asked to also add the installation of the faucet to the bid. He stated that the add for the faucet would be $275 plus the cost of the permit. Finally we had an appointment to sign the contract. It was very hard to set up this meeting because the number I had for Vicki always had a full voicemail. Finally it was set up for 7/29. I do not fault them for taking this long to set up the appointment as we had been in reasonably good communication by email back and forth over that month's time, but it was very difficult to contact them to set the appointment because of Vicki's voicemail being full all this time. I needed to change the time of the appointment and was again unable to reach Vicki by phone or Shawn by phone. I did get an email back from Shawn a day later. On the day of the signing, Shawn was over an hour late. I needed to get back to the office for a meeting, so this was very stressful for me. When he arrived I had just over 20 minutes to go over and sign the paperwork. When I went to sign the contract, the price of the shower valve installation had added four hours of labor for someone to be present for the city inspection. The cost for this faucet including permit jumped to almost $900! Whatever. At this point I just want to get the work done. An appointment was set for 8/11 to begin work. I had already purchased the tiles. They are two colors, so I asked for them to be installed in a random pattern. I know that one person's "random" is not another person's "random", so it did not bother me that he made the request for me to lay out the tiles in advance, so we'd be all clear on that. The day before our appointment, I cleared out the bathroom and the bedroom (I moved my bed out, so I have nowhere to sleep at the moment!) and laid out the tiles on the bedroom floor. Good to go. On 8/11, I began waiting at 8 am. I am taking a day off work to do this, losing money. Once again, I was unable to reach Shawn or Vicki by phone, voicemail, text message, or email. With no show and no contact, I gave up at 2 pm and am cancelling the contract. I am left with my bedroom floor covered with tiles ready for installation, and no space for my bed. What a waste of my time and money. I feel very disrespected. Fortunately I am able to do this work myself, so that is exactly what I am going to do. I am very slow, but at least I won't have to deal with a no-show, non-communicative company who costs me money while I burn my vacation time. Who knows when I will be able to reclaim my bedroom floor!
Description of Work: I signed up for the Angie's list deal for a $1500 shower stall. After some negotiations of extras, a contract was signed and a date set. On the set date, he was a no show, no call. Phone calls to him and Vicki went unanswered and they did not return my call. Email and text message also failed to get a response.

We are sorry to lose your business, but it really is for the best. There are misunderstandings in your comments. At our initial meeting I informed you it usually takes a week for me to get the proposal out. When it is completed we send the proposal via email and follow up with a call to you. My wife Vicki had made several attempts to call you to make the appointments. The day of signing papers, I was late and I had called to let you know I was going to be late. You stated you had to get back to the office, when I was there you were waiting for a conference call at home. As I explained to you then, I will not work on a project that requires a permit without a permit. With a permit there are rules to follow and inspections that a person from Home Solutions must be there. The window for inspections is 8 am to 5 pm. I do not make up those times, it is set by the state or city. On any given project you have a minimum of two inspection. That is a possible sixteen additional hours. I am asking for four. As for the start date, when signing I told you Monday would be a tentative start date. I had two projects going and was not sure I would complete one the previous Friday, we did. We were set to start Monday, but on Sunday we had a family emergency with our 98 year old father. We did call, we did leave a message Sunday night. We intended to call Monday morning and confirm a Tuesday start. My wife thought I called and I thought she called. When I realized the mistake I immediately called you. Yes we were out of communication Monday morning for personal reasons. For that I am truly sorry, it was not intentional. We were caught up in the moment. We are sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused. That is not how we would like to be remembered. We do our best to stay in contact with our customers and be up front with them.

He arrived on time and date he had scheduled. The only drawback was he did not provide any covering for the amount of dust he would be generating. Other than that, he did exactally what the written contract said he would accomplish. He completed he job within the time frame he had scheduled. There were no unexpected problems. The bathroom is now completed except for the glass for the shower doors. But that wasn't part of the original contract Yes, I would recommend this contractor. If the hownowner thinks he or she can just set back while the job is progressing they better think again. The hownowners are supplied a list of material that is needed. Their input makes the job flow better. This is the only time the owners get a chance to say how they want the project to look.

I am requesting a refund request for order # 1294820 purchased on 5/28/14. On 6/13 I requested a call to schedule an appointment and did not receive a return call for at least 4 days. The scheduler stated she'd left two voice mail messages, I received neither, but then said she'd purchased a new phone and was having some problems with it. We met with the contractor on 6/23/14 and did not receive the proposals until 7/6 and that was AFTER I sent a request for a status update. The proposals did not include things we had discussed BUT included items we hadn't discussed. On 7/9 I sent a comprehensive list of questions and change requests to the contractor in response to the original proposal. Today I received the revised proposals which included some of the change requests but not others, change requests that we hadn't asked for and I still have unanswered questions. Feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions. Thank you.

I bought the offer, because the advertisement made me think that the $1499 bought the entire shower replacement job, including demo and install labor, as well as materials. However, when the contractor came by, he quoted a higher price of $2889.50. The contractor did not clarify what the $1499 was for, nor did he itemize the estimate, so it is not clear which costs were for what tasks, what the $1499 bought, or what the additional costs included. This whole experience makes me think the ads on Angie's List are misleading.

I do apologize if I did not explain your situation correctly. The offer is designed to remove and replace. In your situation, you wanted to remove a tub and install a shower. There are several things that change the cost of the deal. 1) The permit fees go up. 2) More work is involved when moving your drain from current location to center of shower. 3) I believe you requested a tiled shower pan, when in the deal it specifies a fiberglass pan. There is more cost in labor and material when doing a tile pan. These a just a few things that effected the higher price. I am sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused.

Shawn and his crew were friendly and professional. They completed the bathroom in the time frame that was outlined in our contract. Did a good job and cleaned up after themselves, were quick to fix any issues that came up.

The job started March 5th. It was completed May 14th. I made no changes in what was in the contract signed early Jan. 2014. The granite did account for two weeks of the delay. The other almost two months were Home Solutions. It took three weeks to get the window. It took another three weeks to have it finished. That included the opener which got thrown out and had to be reordered. While I had to plug the hole with a washcloth. The shower was redone. It is still not a good job. Tiles crooked, grout uneven. I put patterned glass instead of clear to somewhat hide it. Shawn is a likeable guy but very disorganized and forgetful. Many times not acknowledging requests or me having to ask repeatedly. Even at the end he hadn't fixed a faucet properly and the inspection didn't pass. Then he "forgot" to call for another inspection so I had another two mornings shot. Plus he didn't feel the faucet was his responsibility. There were so many other problems but I've run out of room.

I am truly sorry you feel this way [member name removed]. I really am. Yes this project took longer than it should have. We had our delays and you had yours. My delay was due to a special window you asked for and it did not show up until 3 weeks into the project. I cannot nor can any contractor install something that isn't there, nor can they get something any faster if it is on back order. As for the so called hole in the window that was stuffed with a rag is your call. The window was sealed all the time; it was missing a snap in unit with a crank. The tile is installed correctly and within standards. Yes, we did have problems with the grout. We redid it three times to get it right. These are experienced tile setters with more than 20 years each redoing this grout. I won’t even respond to the disorganized and forgetful comment. Let’s talk about the faucet that you purchased, the same faucet that I repaired once and had to come back. On my second visit I replaced your faucet by purchasing a new one and installing it in its place. Did you get a bill for this [member name removed]? I called for an inspection. I do understand that my customers trust me to do a good job for them and that is my goal each and every time. I do the best that I can for each one and this is what contractors get when a single customer makes choices and late decisions that affect the outcome of their project. I handed a product sheet to [member name removed] on the mentioned contract signing date (early Jan.2014) asking her to get this filled out and returned to me two weeks prior to the start date. This product list contains a list of the items on the allowance. She simply had to choose what item she wanted and fill in the store, model # and the sku # and return this back to me two weeks prior to starting. It wasn't filled out the day I started. Receiving the product list two weeks prior to starting gives us time to get the product on site prior to starting. Not receiving the product list at all put us behind before even starting.

The employees and owner were very courteous, on time, and respectful of our space. There was good communication throughout the process and Shawn Boelman (owner) was continually making sure we were ok with the decisions and changes that occurred along the way. The quality of the work was good and the reason some things were not "excellent" is due to the material we chose for the tile. We couldn't afford expensive tile thus the consistency on size and shape were a challenge. The painting of the walls and doors were a bit rushed and areas were missed or door fixtures were painted over vs. taking them off to paint. The difficult part of our project was having to change our mind due to structure limits and by compromising created other changes to happen. This is no fault on anyone's part but for us, never having done a large remodel before, the results were ok. Again we can't fault the contractor because he didn't know what he would find until walls were removed. At the end we had our mirrors custom made and communication became more sketchy because the contractor was on to other jobs.
Description of Work: Removed bathroom counter, sink, tile floor, shower. Rough in walls and floor. Tiled bathroom floor, walls, shower. Built cabinet vanity for tiled counter top. Custom built mirror, resurfaced bathtub, replaced toilet and sink . Painted bathroom.

The kitchen remodel went very well. Shawn showed up on time and provided an estimate that was more detailed than any of the others I received. He is courteous and professional and does what he says he will do. Home Solutions provides excellent service and great quality work. They are responsible and knowledgeable with genuine concern for my wishes. They went the extra mile to make sure I was happy and it is clear that customer satisfaction is a top priority. Their terms are more than fair and they are great to work with. Communication was always timely either via email, text or phone. They are trustworthy and respectful of my home and even befriended my dog. The project was always left clean at the end of the day and they worked well into the evening at times to stay on schedule. Shawn also recommended Valsa Custom Cabinets for the cabinet re-facing and they did an excellent job as well. I am very happy with my kitchen remodel and it turned out just as I had envisioned. I will definitely engage Home Solutions for additional work in my home and am about to sign another contract with them for a bathroom remodel. As an extra, unexpected and very thoughtful gesture, Shawn and Vicki gave me a basket of goodies for my kitchen at the end of the project filled with thoughtful and fun gifts that I can use in my new kitchen and even included a chew toy for my dog. Home Solutions Construction is definitely a solid choice for your home contractor.

Week 1, Day 1: Interrupted dinner to get payment for demolition. Didn’t acknowledge that he had not contacted us before showing up at our front door at 7:30pm. Contract stated we had 3 days to provide payment for services. Also asked that we go to home depot before it closed in 2 hours so he could have shower valve and exhaust fan for inspection the following day. Shower valve and fan weren’t installed until 2 days later. Called my mother in-law who is a Daltile distributor through her small business and asked for rush on tiles to arrive in 1 week. Tiling did not begin until 2.5 weeks later! Week 2: Before my husband left for work, Shawn asked for payment for completion of “rough in” which included raising the vanity lights. We provided check. When I returned home that night the lights were not raised. Nevertheless he had taken the check we left him. When I called him he said we had never provided the height of the lights. I told him I was standing in front of the specs written by my husband and given to him that day. I also reminded him of the e-mail we sent the night before with the same information. There was a long pause and then he apologized profusely. Week 3: Painters completed job with multiple areas where edging was sloppy and paint was missing in crevices of texturing. Shawn agreed this was not acceptable. It took over 2 weeks for the painting to be fixed. Paint was also dripped on hard wood in bedroom and in bedroom bathroom where painter decided to clean his brushes (instead of using our laundry sink in garage). Came home Friday evening to front door unlocked and no one in my home. I could have been robbed! Week 4: Tilers dripped dirty water over my floors and both dented and dripped that water on my sideboard. Also dented two areas on my wall, in our great room, all while carrying supplies to bathroom from garage. They completed their job without cleaning up or addressing these damages. Shawn acknowledged that a few more tiles needed to be ordered for our tub/shower. When the wrong color arrived he didn’t tell us and also didn’t order the replacements until asked! Week 5: Past anticipated completion date. The following is what my husband had to do himself after Shawn spent 1.5 hrs surveying his crew’s work and cleaning the renovated bathroom: Install 2 out of 4 light bulbs missing above vanity Install S-arm to raise shower head to his height (discussed this need with Shawn twice but he forgot and recommended the wrong supplies) Finish caulking around base of bathtub Remove toilet and clean out leaves clogging it (because it was kept outside for a portion of the renovation) Paint windowsill

I contacted Shawn @ Home Solutions Construction, via email, on 2/12/14, to let him know we would be unable to go through with the remodel, at this time. He advised me to contact Angie's List, regarding the refund. My husband and I highly recommend Shawn/Home Solutions construction, and we look forward to working with them again.

Based on the reviews here, I contacted Home Solutions to discuss a complete remodel of our kitchen. Shawn answered the call promptly and told me that his wife would call me back to schedule an appointment as he was on the road. I confirmed the phone number with him. It has now been 24 hours and no call back. Not a good way to begin a relationship that involves gutting a major room in the house and creating my "dream kitchen". At this point, I am not sure that I would use their services. *****UPDATE ***** It turns out that the contractor wrote our phone number down incorrectly, but made a valiant effort to try to find us. I made an appointment with Home Solutions and met with Shawn today to discuss what we wanted done in our kitchen and laundry area. Shawn listened to our ideas and made some great suggestions on how we might better accomplish our goals. In addition, he was the first contractor we spoke with who informed us of some code changes which took effect January 1, which will have an impact on our remodel budget. He took his time with us and answered our many questions. He brought up issues that no one else had mentioned and I was very much impressed with his knowledge and creativity. We haven't yet gotten all of the proposals from the various contractors so we have not made any decision on who we will hire, but given Shawn's thoroughness and attention to detail, he has moved to the top of the list! I believe that we would feel very comfortable working with him to turn our outdated nightmare kitchen into something that fit our needs exactly! I have changed my original grade to an A!
